True. Nor does it belong in most sf/f fiction. Whether writing or roleplaying, romance is generally irrelevant to the story in toal. Players and writers who focus on it or insert it into their fiction are coombrains on some level.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to romance in tabletop games. However, I do not want to roleplay flirting with the overweight 40-something men at my table.
