Its fine. We've seen much worse. Like I said, it doesnt have to be perfect. The eye whites are painted, the reds are consistent. Wash stains are fine. Highlights doesnt have to be eavy metal tier. Its a nice 6/10.

Personally I think the Black Legion should start having some problems like warbands breaking off to do their own stuff and Abby has to go after them allowing for the Word Bearers to take over as the poster boys.

It would make sense because they are the prime rivals to the posterboys of the Space Marines being the Ultramarines, so lore wise the ground work is already set up, and red just seems to contrast better against blue.

I dont know who this DCSlopper is. At least not enough to identify him by the tips of his fingers. I just post my minis occasionally and come by from time to time to steal ideas.

If you want an object in 28-35mm scale (so roughly 1:50) look like it looks in real life, it needs to be a lot brighter than it would be in real life, because its surface is x-times smaller than its real life counterpart and there is simply less of it for the light to reflect on. (this is more a scale modellers thing tho)

In both cases, miniatures often get some dark washes, some dust, dirt and other weathering effects, which tone down the original colours further.

And now add to this the fact that games are usually played in not so well lit places, and the distance from the player to the miniatures is not super close, you want to use bright highlights, so you actually see the main features of the miniature, so it looks like "something", and not just a marine in dirty blue, black or red.

Rivalries between the individual leaders have always been sideplots in the Novels about the BL.

Those were the Red Corsairs. The Crimson Slaughter may have just been GW trying to push diversity amongst “regular” Chaos Marines. I think Abaddon is too iconic and entrenched in the lore for him to get replaced now. I really liked the series at the start. Good stuff about Guilliman and the Indomitus Crusade, the spread of Primaris Marines, the absolute state of the Imperium. Some ongoing plot threads but largely each book worked as a glimpse of a different part of the Imperium at the time. And the subplot in the first one about the Scribe-Errant is one of my favorite 40k lore things
Then I got to the Nick Kyme book. Absolute dogshit. Which is to be expected from Nick Kyme, but still. Even by his standards it was bad.
And after that, it became very obvious that some of the subplots, the Rogue Trader one especially, were just spinning their wheels because they were going to be important at some point in the future so they needed to keep reminding you that this fucking Rogue Trader existed but could never come up with a decent reason to give them as much attention as they got in the actual book.
And then they announced the last one was The Silent King and it pissed me off. They spent all this fucking time just to introduce the Silent King in the last fucking book and that was the end of it, series over, go read fucking lore snippets from the Necron Codex, I guess. So I never finished the series and I can't imagine I ever will.

What's really weird is that all the generic chaos characters are black legion except fabius who is his own thing now. Haarkon isn't night lords, he's BL, vox machinator isn't traitor mechanicus, he's BL. No Huron. No alpha legion or word bearers.

Meanwhile space marines each get a consolation cupcake and character from their new combat patrols, to compensate for not getting a codex for each major chapter lineage. And even minor ones like the White Consuls.

Played the white dwarf SM II operation today. I used the sniper class, the game is super simple but fun for some really casual dice rolling. The line of sight rules are a little awkward but I like the super small co-op nature of the game. This was turn 2, we ended up losing after getting swarmed - we couldn't prevent the objective getting destroyed (combination of bad rolls and bad decisions). Only took about 40 minutes. We're about to run it again.

Not mine, but picrelated. The correct way to do chipping is to first sketch the areas with a highlight color, then paint the color of the exposed material within them. This simulates the pristine internal layer of the paint becoming visible.
Single color chipping just comes off as random dirt splotches, not chipped paint.

Just finished Buri. Not sure if it's my best paintjob but it's serviceable at least. It's a bummer that my coconut crab carapace got mostly dulled by the wash I put on it.
Also, while I was trying to go for an actual power sword, the fact that it turned out looking like a crystal sword is pretty neat to me.

Sometimes it takes posting it and getting that mention to see a flaw. It's a FDM character I painted while high as a test scheme for that Glittering Host warband. I'm more not impressed with how the gold looks and that the cape (red/purple) came out too reddish.

I think it'd be more tolerable if I went back and did a darker paint mixed into the gold to give the trim a pop, fix the blade, and redo the eyes.
