Her power to shape fate is supposed to be limited in scope beyond her own destiny, aligned with small scale events, but it is impossible not to notice my arrival bending all outcomes around itself like an event horizon swallowing up a solar system. Oh, how she tugged and twisted at the possibilities, trying fruitlessly to stop what she perceived as a nightmare.

But I myself am born of Fate, thrice over. Once from the Norns, once by the grace of Samsara, and once from Ananke.

All she accomplished was obtaining my interest. Itself a greater feat than she could accomplish. I watched her dimly grasp at the impenetrable barrier of a compleated timeline. Stayed my hand as she tracked my path of conquest through a more easily observed target's fate: Avacyn. She watched Avacyn drive the Eldrazi with spear of light and flail of flame into a gaping singularity of the Deep. She saw the angel weep as she overlooked entire planes roaring to senescence as they found themselves endowed with machine-god bodies, even as she herself spread oil across worlds yet to have their own Planeswarden grafted into existence.

She was with Avacyn as she hovered lonesomely over a still, biomechanical multiverse. Burdened with the certain knowledge this truly was all for the best.

When I finally made contact with her, she begs me over and over to consider alternatives. She promises to devote herself to my vision of perfection if I do nothing further to revert Phyrexia after, bereft of it's master, it is consumed for Weatherlight fuel. She asks me why I saved the angel only to scour the world.

To her surprise, I agree. I tell her that all she has seen is but one solution, and I am willing to consider another before enacting THE solution across all possibilities.

"A sound stratagem!" exclaimed the demon, rubbing his forelimbs together eagerly. "This one has a gift for weaving both cocoons and possibilities! She was a most worthy adversary, I cannot even BEGIN to imagine what she must be like as an ally..."

"Can you just focus on the mission?" she protested. "Yes, yes, of course, my little ones are tracking the dragons as we speak" chuckled the demon, eerily in tune with her as both of them cast out their abilities. It appals her how in synch they are, the demon's flagrant aura of fear and worst case scenarios providing as a camouflage and a causal for her more subtle machination. Spooky and calamitous (yet broadly positive) outcomes reached out to shape events in Tarkir, giving her room to provide more finesse.

"As for you, Shry, you're with me" ordered Avacyn.

"Ah, of course. To counterspell the counterspeller?" teased the plane-eating horror of the team. Avacyn stared daggers at her. "That, and because I trust you less than Valgavoth"

In the second, they dealt with the pursuers one by one. Convincing, disarming, banishing. And in exchange, they risked Sarkhan and Taigam succeeding in their quest to turn Sarkhan into a sentient Dragonstorm-spewing forth parodies of dragons on every plane.

"...so erm, whenever you're ready, I AM hoping we can cooperate to make something beautiful here" babbled the demon.

They weren't the only solutions. But the others involved either letting Jace's meddling go unabated, or letting one of the demons subsume more of this plane with their essence. Neither was palatable.

"Narset knows the most about what is at stake. We start with her" she said. "Ah yes, the weak link" breathed Valgavoth.

A trivial distraction. A stampede of hatchlings cut off Narset from her compatriots, allowing Valgavoth to weave a vision around her: A vision in which they had time to explain the fullness of what was at stake.

Ajani was next. His spell nullification would have been problematic head-on, but evading head-on problems was Aminatou's gift. He was lured off the beaten path shortly after rescuing Narset and being troubled by her exclamations, where a pool of visions conjured by Valgavoth showed him how far Sarkhan had fallen.

She explained her cause, entreated their aid in stopping Sarkhan, made clear Jace had no part in this-and omitted the demon's presence, lurking at the edges of their conspiracy.

Elspeth was taken aback enough by the whole debacle without having to account for an actual redeemed demon, and unwilling to overlook an earnest little girl with fate powers quickly agreed to prepare instead of charging ahead.

"ON ALL LEVELS EXCEPT THE PHYSICAL" Sarkhan was screaming into the Blind Eternities, "I AM A DRAGON. EVERYONE WILL HAVE DRAGONS IN THEIR BACKYARD, AND EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY!"

"Sarkhan, you have to stop this madness!" shouted Aminatou as the outraged Planeswalker swatted at the other free with winds of dragon-infused tempestuous magic. A few causal strings snapped were all it took to unravel the storm-while Valgavoth webbed Taigam to the ground,prone. "You are not a real dragon! You have no wings, you have no fiery breath, you don't even lay eggs! You are a living time paradox twisted by uncontrollable mana into a parody of draconic perfection!"

"NEVER!!!" he bellowed, forcing wide the Omenpaths with all the dragon energy at his disposal-which also made nudging his fate harder, much harder. The raw magical power she was unravelling simply churned onwards like a tide beating back a sand castle, and yet she scribbled away desperately.

Valgavoth cleared his throat. "AHEM. Planar Expansion: Predatory Cocoon Estate!"

And suddenly, strands of silk and floorboards were erupting from him, in all directions, forming a rickshaw pocket reality around the surprised Sarkhan that looked like Escher had drawn a Scooby Doo episode.

"You do yourself a disservice, girl!" chortled Valgavoth. "Manifesting a dream of that calibre required GREAT concentration, one only made possible by your causal interference. As I divined, we make a GREAT team!"

"We do" she finally acknowledged. "Thank you. I couldn't have saved this plane without you. I...didn't think you'd actually try"

Valgavoth sighed. "I understand your mistrust. I certainly can't deny taking wicked glee in" he said, waving a hand vaguely at the both the brood leaders and clan chiefs running around screaming as their own incarnate fears forcibly united them in desperation "the methods I use here"

"Do you really think it's possible to use evil methods for good, Valgavoth? There were other ways. Less risky ways. To resolve this"

"You could have stopped their hearts, with how you control fate"

"I don't deal in certainties, you know. I just...steer things. It's fun. It prevents me from overreaching"

"Ah, but you steer them with such adroit skill you can take a Spark before it's time! Can good come out of evil? All I can say is however bent and crooked the path to get there, I'm game to try. Just look at those fated outcomes of yours"

Aminatou thought about the inevitable future I represented, and my promise to her of a new outcome, and she smiled. "That, I can't deny"

You play a not!space marine sent in with some other professional technical folk in to deal with it. Everyone gets pushed to the brink of their endurance and sanity. You either stop the primal mother goddess Mem Aleph from using her cosmic egg to remake reality into a paradise for demons after she bested the “God of Law”, or help her accomplish it. It also had, until DeSu 1, easily the most nuanced Law/Chaos/Neutral reps in the game.

Then Strange Journey Deep came along and ruined it. Well, mostly ruined it. It unambiguously made the Law route even better and put some more thought into Neutral, making it a tad bleaker but not in a way I mind. On the other hand it “solved” Chaos with a complete nothing of a solution.

It also mainly revolves around your bratty little shit of a future daughter who has a multiple choice past based on which route you go for, reveals the God of Law for this world is actually Shekinah not YHWH, and FORCES YOU TO NOT KILL A DECEITFUL LITTLE SHIT NAMED DEMETER WHO IS AN AWFUL LITTLE TWO-FACED ASSCUNT THE DEVELOPERS THINK IS EITHER ADORABLE, MARKETABLE OR BOTH. For FUCK’S sake she’s literally worse than Mastema because at least he revels in his true colors when he’s winning whereas she’s still giong “Harvest! HARVEST!” like a fucking pokemon.

For the first half, funnily enough a fella called Wild Card had a WIP for the jump on pastebin. It has pretty much everything I would expect in terms of perklines sorted into those categories.

Alex would either be a general perk or a scenario. My gut would lean towards scenario since the whole premise of SJ Deep is that she is intruding on the base plot to try to change the future.

So I am the idiot Anon making overlord gear and this time it's for the companion training to become the parties tank. It's legacy gear this time so I figure it's equal to D&D + 2 or + 3 level. Anyways is this too weak/too strong/just right/ you have a better idea?

Helm of the defender (Legacy Tier - Head Slot): This heavy helm appears sturdy and is however it has a couple of abilities that aid those who wish to defend others. The wearer of the helm can detect when anyone within 100 feet of them is down to below 30% hit points or the equivalent. The helm also improves the wearer’s and allies within 100 feet resistance to magical based attacks slightly

Face Guard of the protector (Legacy Tier - Face Slot) This steel plate that fits over the wearer’s mouth and nose provides a couple useful benefits in addition to protecting their face. It moderately increases their resistance to poison and makes them moderately less likely to suffer an attack aimed at a critical point. It also generates a slight penalty for enemies within 10 feet of the wearer but attacking allies instead of the wearer

Heavy Armor of protection (Legacy Tier - Body Slot): This heavy armor provides ample defense even moderately more than one would expect for an armor of this Tier, however it does not hinder movement in the least and offers the wearer minor resistance to fire and heat based attack.
Shirt of readiness (Legacy Tier - Underclothing Slot) This plain white cotton shirt has a simple yet effective ability. Its wearer may instantly choose to have a suit of armor that is unworn and nearby or a untended piece of equipment on to themself having it appear on them fully equipped.

Damage to agility/dexterity is healed slowly with a bit returning each hour.

When the last of the leylines was combusted and replaced with white mana leylines of my own design, when I had finished twisting the intestines of the family heads around the bleeding mass I had fused them into, and when the last demon had finished spitting blood from begging me to stop hurting him, I finally registered as if from a great distance Elodie shaking me and screaming that was enough. It wasn’t. This plane had chosen it’s fate when it cannibalised it’s defenders.

With a gesture the screaming, twisted, barred from death remnants of everyone responsible for the imprisonment of the angels squelched together into an enormous meatblob. Demons choked on mortal bile while humans howled in pain from the corruption now fused with their veins. And as the suffering of this plane diminished from an entire race to a single DESERVING TARGET, I made an incision. Extracted some liquid. And offered it to Shry.

“It tastes” she said, savouring it, “far better than Halo. But it’s only suited for refined palates”

“Very well” I said. When I was done, everything had been levelled to dust. Recalculating the remaining innocent lives, I raised utterly insignia-neutral mansions for each remaining household or individual huddling from judgement far away. “I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone my new hands-off approach to this multiverse is contingent on black mana knowing it’s place”

I stared down at a single struggling demon. “Let this be a lesson to all your ilk. In a just world, pain should be fleeting” I whispered in his prolapsed eardrum. “In the one you have built for yourselves, it can also. Be. Eternal”

Don't think that is the case if you don't ignore the decade it takes for a jumper to get a new injection of perks. Spending a decade in between each time a jumper gets new powers makes it take quite a while for a jumper to get too overpowered. Sure, they'll be ahead of the curve by jump 2 because native build + extra stuff + past experiences, but from my experience, when you compare it to Gamer fics, the new Random Gacha thing that I've been seeing around, Wiki Warrior stories or Celestial stuff it's pretty slow. In those stories the main character just gains laundry lists worth of superpowers in a few weeks to a month and don't even need to go to a setting to get shit from the setting like when jumping so they just keep pulling random bullshit out of a hat instead of slowly building up a skillset for themselves from the places they go to.

Sure you can go 'lol comicbook superintelligence'/'lol training boosters' but if you are using those things you aren't interested in anything but writing a power fantasy.

Valgavoth was technically, TECHNICALLY abducted to the plane so his retaliation-while excessive, self-serving, and in his nature-was technically an act of self-preservation. On the other hand, everyone on the plane would have been screwed. Instead of cooperating with the angels and trying to find an efficient and mutually beneficial solution (which should have been achievable given the solution DID incorporate angels) they TURNED TO THE USELESS FREELOADING DEMONS to obtain their hybrid demon nature.

They are, on a population wide scale, a cancer. A parasitic force who merely because they had the opportunity to obtain personal advantage, exacted it without considering the long term consequences i.e. surrendering their leverage to the archdemons. These short-sighted, credulous, ignorant, greedy incompetents demonstrated more faith in random fucking black mana infestations proving they have nothing to contribute to existence as a whole, while Valgavoth at least demonstrated skill, competence and ingenuity in turning his prison into everyone else's prison.

think it's more useful to measure in narrative time (eg. word count) then in-universe time
jumpchain stories tend to be way faster paced, sometimes covering entire decades in a chapter, plus you get your first batch of perks right at the start (so if your first jump is poorly balance they you immediately start the story overpowered)
The other formats have mechanism to give you powers that are linked to the amount of story you've written, either making it directly tied to word count or stuff the MC does in the universe
In jumpchain you can just have nothing happen for 10 years, and indeed that's actually a good strategy for a jumper a lot of the time

I'll come out and admit it: I made the jumpchain for New Capenna in a day solely because my friend wanted a New Capenna jump. It wasn't a serious project, so I cut some corners. That's on me.

I wanted to keep angels restricted to unaffiliated groups because being an angel in New Capenna should have some difficulties tied to it. If people just want an angel altform, there are better jumps for that. If you're getting it from New Capenna, you should struggle for it.

The reason they are is because those are the tribes associated with each family. There is definitely a powergap between sphinxes and the other races, even mechanically, but it feels fitting enough.

So the idea in the MTG card game is that you, the player, are a planeswalker and your deck is your spellbook. Now obviously, spells like Lightning Bolt are easy enough to understand in terms of how a planeswalker would cast it as a spell, but not all of them are. Like the 'sudden betrayal' you mention, it's unclear if casting a spell like that would fall under something like mind control, or forced misfortune, or just a lightning bolt flavoured like betrayal.
So basically, I dunno. Yeah that's a shitty answer, I know, but it's (potentially) fun to think about how Jumper would cast something like that if it's in their spellbook (but probably not on par with their perks and spells-by-fiat.
