I understand varg is a successful musician and may be really good at that, but when it comes to like fiction and worldbuilding I think guys like Varg are too in love with existing tropes and genres to be actually good at those fields of art.

He loves existing forms and ideas too much so he's not going to be motivated to do anything particularly interesting with them. He just wants to replicate what he already likes.

Tolkien to take an example of someone often loved by this broad type of guy wasn't like this. "I want to write the equivalent of the Iliad for a world I made up for my elaborate conlangs to exist in, except the technology level and general world will be drawn from early midevil europe instead of ancient greece" was not a done to death set of ideas.

Varg just loves a certain combination of fantasy tropes and historical romanticism he has already seen and just wants to do them again. At most the innovation is to filter out whatever doesn't resonate with his precise personal autism and put all his favourite tropes densely side by side. Its more like being a collector than an artist. Its actually a mindset very suitable to like wargaming, cause you can just pick "your guys" from the setting or history and its fully in the spirit of the thing to just replicate your idea of them. "I'm painting a christian force from the first crusade" benefits from and will be more enjoyable the more awed and obsessed you are with that thing or a certain idea of it, there's no reason to try and develop on the concept if you don't want to.

According to the reddit users and mods, a group of people had begun promoting the game and aggressively defending it, using practices like creating threads and then deleting any negative comments about the game in those threads, "dogpiling" and "brigading", and generally being disruptive. Throw in that the conversations almost invariably lead to political arguments, and it getting banned is not much of a surprise.

Then, when you actually look at the game, and see that it's a really mediocre b/x clone that manages to ruin every part of the game by just adding pointless rules that are severely unplaytested because they're too busy adding more pointless rules to bother seeing if the ones they already have any good, and it's no surprise there really wasn't anyone who wanted to see it unbanned.
