apart from their ability to adapt to other cultures, there's really not much going for them is there?
Their religion is a bigger turd than their bellies can hold. the characters are whatever, and even their ties to cathay just makes cathay more interesting, not them.

>their ability to adapt to other cultures
That's something I wish was leaned more on, their ability to basically learn from and adapt other cultures' cultural icons and tech into their worldview. They do have kind of an earth elemental thing going on, like how they themselves are rather primitivist, rely heavily on blacksmithing and worship volcanoes and essentially an unnatural earth chasm, but the idea of ogres being influenced by their experiences abroad I feel is something that is something that has more opportunity. Like say what might happen if an ogre that's been stranded in Lustria eventually reunites with his kin, or a Maneater that's become used to talking with the softer humans and the like has to explain to his brethren how the smaller folk negotiate.
Anonymous No.96507658 [Report] >>96508865

Ogres are just fun. They aren't the coolest race or the most badass but they're big fat lads with muscles and usually just enough brains to get by.
I also like the idea that in theory they were meant to be the perfect antichaos race but were left unfinished. They're pretty resistant to Chaos but not completely immune, which can lead to Chaos Ogres just chillin with the other fat lads.

The Hung are the more accurate "Mongolian Nomad" culture, while the Ogres are just... They're not really indicative of any particular culture, they're more archetypal as the cruel glutton. Of the races in Warhammer Fantasy, they're definitely the more "fairytale," in the sense that their world and way of living in it feels more like something you'd get in a storybook. The Mountains of Mourn are technically where Tibet should be, though their climate is significantly more "Land of the Lost." Going through Ogre territory evokes the same feeling as Skull Island, or Agartha. It's primeval.

WHF Ogres are awesome. Giants are scary, but they are never given their own time to play. They are usually complete retards who move in pairs tops, and are on cavemen level. Sure WHF have those giants too, but in my heart the Ogres are the real deal.

They keep the giant aspect, give them flavor, give them culture, they give them enough intelligence to be a real menace, and have alliances. They give them motivation and justification to do anything. Why join the good guys? The bad guys? Why just be on the battlefield, but not conquer everything and make an empire? The hunger, the desire to eat, and the simple-minded selfishness that makes them fun.

Always thought it was fun how GW artists and the people arranging miniatures for photos would always show a BBEG or elite unit sweeping aside some Empire soldiers in WHFB or Imperial Guard in 40K.

I mean, is it really a big deal if some giant mutants, an ancient sorceror, or a horrible demon can take out a small group of normal humans? Congrats I guess.

I’ve got an Ogre question. It’s mentioned that Ogres are gluttonous and insatiable, and that this hunger is supernatural - a result of their connection to the Great Maw. Does this mean food never satiates them? Or it takes so much food to satisfy their appetite that it’s not realistic to expect any single Ogre settlement to he properly fed? My curiosity stems from other races in the setting being described as constantly hungry, such as Skaven (due to metabolism) and things like Doombulls (supernatural bloodthirst.)
Anonymous No.96568818 [Report]
>>96568774
They can have brief moments of being satisficed after eating a tremendous amount of food but then it's back to being hungry
No tribe is full but they aren't starving either
Even if they are full they'd eat more because they honor the maw by doing so
Even before the great maw they were always hungry but that was due to their size

One of their actual story modes in Totally Warhammer 3 is for them to find a dead god, drag its corpse out of the realm of chaos, eat its divine flesh, then toss the rest into the Maw itself, and they get to experience a true satiation of their hunger for a time.

Skaven, orcs, goblins, beastmen, vampires, ghouls, at least some chaos mortals/deamons would all eat you. I wouldn't be surprised if lizardmen ate humans occasionally or if there is some blood drinking in a dark elf ritual sacrifice either.
I'm not sure humans would pass on eating a lizardman either if they are in need of food.

Zero chance. The Mongolians have two actual expys in Warhammer (Chaos Hung and the Hobgobla Khans). Ogres are more an expy of Tibet, and Tibetans are more likely to be pleased that they're getting any sort of separate representation at all then dismayed at the form that representation takes.

I will give AoS one compliment, its increased weirdness and scale has allowed me to introduce some strange miniatures into my Maneater themed army (Goldguts. 'Neath the Gold the 'unngry Guts!).

My slaughtermaster is a 'quartermaster', a Som'mer teeth jones miniature converted to sit atop a rhinox, so its a top hat and greatcoat wearing 'Goblin; hauling a bunch of gold and chests around underneath a parasol.

My hunter is a Warmahordes Bog Trog with harpoon gun and my Firebelly is a Fire Elemental I got for cheap off ebay. Half the Gnoblars are leftover Malifaux Gremlins for Mayor Slaughtermaster to boss around. One of my stonehorns is a one armed blind Ogor riding a dinosaur. My Yhetti's are armoured up Trolls and my Mournfang unit is a bunch of Arabian Ogres riding Hippos.

It gives the whole army an exotic globetrotting feel. They've been everywhere. Seen everything. And collected a bunch of weirdos and freaks under their banner.
