I finally pulled the trigger on the Sylvaneth Spearhead.

Kurnothi are coming, which I'm very excited about, but they probably won't be enough to really work as an army on their own, like Darkoath and Gitmob. So getting a base of Trees now is a smart move

I'm assuming that the arrival of Kurnothi will mean that GW will finally give Sylvaneth rules that aren't completely dedicated to terrain

And I'm assuming that the current awesome spearhead will get replaced with a worse one soon. Maybe with that weird diseased Warcry team

So it was the prudent move.

Now, I need ideas for how to paint them! Please, post Sylvaneth models and art! And if a kind anon could share the painting pages from the Battletome, I would greatly appreciate it

Old news by now, but we already knew Kharadron meant "born from the sundered mountain" forever, it shouldn't be a surprise that aos khazalid doesn't 100% match onto WHFB's language, which wasn't really that consistent to begin with anyway. We know the next four Battletomes. There isn't enough time left in the year to get all of them out this year, especially if, as rumored, three of them are getting multiple models alongside them.

If Sylvaneth come immediately after those, I would say the best we can hope for is spring next year, maybe the last significant AoS release before we enter the traditional "all the machines are busy making Space Marines so you don't get shit for 6 months" phase of the new 40k Edition release

Worst case scenario, autumn next year.

I would lean towards spring, just because during the last stream they basically just said "yeah Kurnothi are coming" and we've gotten multiple Rumor Engines for them already. But hope is the mother of disappointment.

I've had good success with both Mortek Guard and Chaos Warriors, and they're the definition of anvil infantry. I think the value of Cohorts is going to be dependent on the DPP economy, both because the spear ones generate extra DPP, and because the Cohort units themselves are pretty dependent on having that 5+ ward. I do think the spear ones are significantly better than the sword ones though, because they just fulfill the unit's intended role better, while the sword dudes are basically trying to be some kind of bad offensive infantry.
