Play spearhead and warcry almost exclusively. If you want to play a 2000 point game (you should feel no obligation to do so, this isnt 40k where you're side games are either dogshit or boarding patrol), lean into path to glory/ravaged coast.

i've been playing warhammer in some form or another for 25 years. spearhead is honestly probably the best on boarding experience for new players warhammer has ever had. you get essentially a small army in a box with everything you need, the rules are nice and short only being a couple pages, the board is smaller and the game plays much faster, the scoring is more balanced and less skill dependent so newbies dont get instantly BTFO like you might on a seasonal match if you dont know the rules.

like even as a veteran player, i'll often just see if my opponent wants to rack 2 or 3 spearhead matches instead of a full game, and the answer is an enthusiastic yes more times than not. i enjoy the full game too, but spearhead is great, its not just something to learn the game with and then move on and never touch again, like so many warhammer intro products have been in the past.

i dont know if they were worried about readability or what but i dont think those paint jobs are really doing them any favors. im gonna wait to see the youtube crowd get their hands on them

"the people" dont actually have any say.

its a 3-4 man design team working in complete isolation, playing only a handful of games to get feedback from, and then balancing the game based on dispassionate raw event metrics.

they are not actually asking the playerbase what they want, or doing anything to gather or operate on actual feedback, and even in their internal playtesting it was stated that they only played like 120 games to playtest the whole edition, which across nearly 30 armies works out to about 4 games played per army.

I don’t care. The reasoning behind changing subfactions for what we got now was stupid because GW could’ve just said that a subfaction primarily fights using x subfaction rules rather than tying the two together directly. I want it for /mydudes/ because I want to make something that feels like it would fit in the canon. So having some canon examples would go a long way in helping, but they’ve got nothing.

my gold standard was the subfaction builders they started doing in like late 8th or early 9th edition 40k. i really wish they had stuck with that and applied it to all of their games, maybe even expanded on it a little, and the named subfactions were just pre-construced combinations of the subfaction builders options

aos generalyl feels good even at larger scales, because spillover damage, no slow rolling, high points costs, and a fairly simple scoring system keep it from ever getting too bogged down, unless you are also using like narrative siege missions or something. so aos usually works very well even for larger scale games

i dont know that i've ever seen anything other than 2k played competitively though. not that it wouldnt work, but most competitive events have you playing anywhere from 3-6 matches, so from a purely time constraints perspective, playing anything bigger than 2k would kind of exacerbate that. a 2k 3 round event already takes 6+ hours, 5 rounds takes 2 days. thats a big ask of people to extend that further

I didn't like the 2e guys at first, but once I got my hands on 'em I think they're genuinly still cool. I still have my plan to make them into scarlet crusaders once I stop collecting more shit and finally settle down on my hobby purchases.

if stormcasts were to be the direct analogues to chaos warriors then definitely, they should have capes, they should have a simpler plate armor, and the helmets should be variegated, with generally a tendency for not dehumanising the wearer like the chaos ones do, with a halo replacing the role of the horns

but unfortunately stormcasts aren't the direct analogues to chaos warriors, they're the direct analogues to space marines, that's why there's such a heavy emphasis on armor types, why they're so branded, and why instead of having a focus on their individualism (since they're all champions with at least one lifetime of heroics before being chosen, and they all value greatly their memories and humanity since they know full well they will eventually lose it bits by bits), they have a focus on battlefield designations, equipment and how the armies are organised, subdivided and coloured, like marine chapters.

at 100/5 they're not exactly expensive, 3+ saves, crit mortals, seems decent. dedicate like 800-1000pts of your list just to liberators or vanquishers. or maybe swap out a few for reinforced squads of vigilors to mix in some shooting and buffs?

My suspension of belief is hurt by two factions basically setting up monuments so close to each other, and THEN deciding to fight.
Yes yes, I know things like the FS pizza oven supposedly shoots out of the ground, but that is fucking stupid.
The other thing is that it's this ""optional"" kit that you might even not like the look of, but it's FREE in-game and so it's one more thing you gotta buy.

It's the perfect sort of kit they could sell as an optional unit for all chaos factions (including 40k), but GW are allergic to money if it means not adhering to pointless faction/game system separation guidelines.
I imagine chaos factions would use summoned and bound deamons in battle, and even HoH could be testing it or breaking it in through combat before milking it.

Meanwhile WE is at the opposite, because they rather keep their stuff like "Sage of Slaughter" to be just a mention and got super lazy with everything after DG and TS, that you see a 10e Codex of those two and you'll get a map of chain of command. Meanwhile, EC and WE is a lame excuse you can apply to TS.

Ironic in that it’s a mirror to Archaon and Sigmar, where Archaon could never let go of his mortal hatreds and lost his chance to destroy the realms because of it, while Sigmar sat down and turned from a warrior-god to a god-king, allowing the age of sigmar to start

Y’know I’ve always wondered if β€œdemon Princedom” is in the books for the stormcasts. It seems very on the nose the way Chaos Warriors gain strength from shedding their mortal aspects in exchange for power but stormcasts technically lose their strength and mortality the more they try to retain themselves rather than selling it all to war and victory. I get that’s the point of distinction between order and chaos’ representatives but I can’t help but wonder what a stormcast who doesn’t care for anything at the outset and sells everything he has to be filled with pure Azyrite energy would become. The lord commanders are stormcasts with ancient storms in them, the Celestant prime is still has his mortal trappings about him last I read that one realmgate wars book. A mortal shaped by pure Azyrite energy isn’t really a thing besides Sigmar and if he has any kids I guess. Azyr is used like a frame or a canvas for the stormcasts.

Seems a very obvious path of exploration for the setting idk

>In his conquest of Shyish, Nagash hunted down and consumed each of the lesser gods of death and the underworlds over which they held dominion. He stole not only their power but also the souls to whom they once offered sanctuary, expanding his own domain of Nagashizzar and ensuring his reign as the preeminent God of Death. His methods were both subtle and brutal. In the case of Ouboroth, the god-serpent who ruled the underworld of Korbor, he used trickery to starve his rival of worship and then devoured its essence, leaving it as a withered husk of its former self. The Stygxxian gods once ruled from Deific Mons, but Nagash, offering himself as an ally, destroyed them when their guard was down with an overwhelming barrage of sorcery and cast their mountain seat into ruin.

>Thanatar and Morbriarch, the sibling goddesses who sat upon the twin thrones of Termius, were poisoned by an elixir of ageing, and Nagash absorbed what remained of their essence with little effort. The beneficent Hadrax, who guided the souls of his worshippers to the underworld haven of Solace, was doomed by the forces unleashed by the creation of the Shyish Nadir, expiring ninety-nine days after the advent of that calamity. Nagash left almost no deity overlooked in his predations, confining what dregs remained to a cage of perpetual suffering as part of the Shrieking Pantheon. Morrda, however, is said to have escaped torment, but his believers rarely claim such out loud, for Nagash would surely seek the Bleak Raven's demise were there proof that he endured.

I appreciate that they show paint jobs of lower skill levels for the hope of having at least one person get the mental push they need to say β€œI can paint that” or β€œI think I can do that better” and actually act on it. Not to mention it’s a much more realistic view of the average painters skill. While showing off perfect and clean studio paint jobs is a treat for the eyes, showing off these skill levels is a twofold boon for GW. 1, they don’t have to have β€˜eavy metal painting up as many of the same models, and 2, it’s almost free advertising for them. A few pennies of plastic and cardboard sent out to a contracted influencer is much cheaper than the hourly wage of an EM painter. Heck, my painting is better than many of these but I lack the charisma, drive, and most importantly, luck of a hobby influencer to to attract enough of an audience to be successful and eventual catch the eye of GW. Just keep painting, anons.

nta but it does ride on points pretty much.

Don't care much for the army but some of the things mentioned are a little deceiving and already exist in the game for other armies and are pretty eh. Like the spearmen are basically mortek guard, the construct even with max DPP is going to wound with 2-3 attacks with -1 rend, the shooting units might be damage 2 but cap out at 10 with 1 attack each etc.

the obvious answer is just to spam the bulls. there's no secret sauce, pretty much all the books are like this because they can't figure out how to make non unique heroes both cost less than a unit & also bring something to the table that's not on a 3+ roll and worth it.

follow >>96530217
link and browse the page, they have boltboyz for $13 for 3, which is about 75% off retail, buy like 18-24 of those.

you can get gutrippaz for cheap on ebay, you'll want probably 20-40 of those, or less if you want to instead run monsta killaz. monsta killaz are cheaper, minimum size unit objective hunters and monster wranglers, gutrippaz are more of a central block in the middle.

get like 40 hobgrots just because you can buy them for about $1 a model since no one wants them and theres a ton on the market, they can be acceptable screens in a pinch.

you can also get the killbow for $13 from that link above as well, maybe get 1 or 2 of that, its decent but niche.

sludgeraker is kind of a cheapish debuff character, fights kinda well, moderately useful. skumdrek got a glow up recently that helps shore up the armies bad RNG, decent argument for both

mirebrute is a fucking beatstick machine that will wipe 30 dudes off the table in a single combat if they let him.

kragnos is technically a must have auto include right now but he's expensive $$$ and kinda clashes visually, but if you like the model and money is no object he's points well spent.

sloggoth is weird, he plays well with kragnos but otherwise clashes with KB bait and evade gameplay

killaboss on foot skip, murknob skip, slittaboss skip, swampcalla shaman auto include, killaboss on gnashtoof good objective piece since seasonal warscroll

skip the spells and terrain until you have the rest of the army to use them.

general gameplay loop is teleporty shooters/chaff and baiting people into charges and making them fight last against your punchy monsters and fat gutrippa blocks. more nuance than that but thats the 10000 foot view gameplan.

yeah its the bosspole. i would focus on getting an army first and then if you have cash left over or at a later date, pick up the bosspole and endless spells, they arent make or break, and you need an army to use them in the first place

if i had to recommend a good starter army list for kruleboyz 2000pts for a new player i'd get something like this. it focuses on the cheap essential kits instead of the flashy $200 ones, it can be altered to skew in other directions as you develop a taste for what you want out of the army, its got a good sprinkling of everything, and most of these units can be gotten cheaply through stormbringer and ebay.

I picked up like 4 treelords (regretably got one full kit for 60 instead to use the rest of the sprue to make other shit instead of just ancient)

>>96530876
It's 2 sprues, 40 makes a treelord ancient and whole body, 41 has the durthu and generic parts on it. (And a base I think?)

I have no idea where he's getting his info from but as for the spider incarnate etc being part of a scrapped dawnbringers thing, the ogre rumourmonger posted about it on tga like a week ago. Since deleted his post but another guy on there copy pasted it, picrel. His actual ogre ramblings seem to be corroborated by whitefang, so we can assume he's got some insider info at least. Excuse the phoneposting

Can’t force people to have fun with something they don’t find fun. If you really want to stay there and with them, and if it’s now a GW store, maybe try OPR? Otherwise head to another place that would have sigmar players

if you guys like the old blightkings kit or some of the blightkings characters like lord of plagues or spume, i would get them now, dont wait. shit might be OOP sooner than you think

hell i wouldnt be surprised if glottkin eat a squatting. seems like they are trying to cut all ties with anything pre 2015 since old world started yoinking shit back with apparently little internal warning or discussion

that's definitely not the reason, aos lost stuff like the warshrine without tow getting it, and it has already codified why their narrative won't talk about chaos divided, but only undivided.

Depends on who says it and who corroborates it. Whitefang has an impeccable track record so basically anything he says is taken in high esteem. Then you got a couple of less consistent guys like wfbmu who are generally still good but you gotta squint a bit.
This boole character only had one post before the whole ogre shit, where he correctly identified skaventide as havig 74 models (pretty specific) and the skaven contents (a bit easier). Then he dropped the whole ogre/mosscairn shit, which has since been picked up by whitefang so people generally believe boole's ramblings. It's not a 100% but worth taking a look at. As for the spider incarnate stuff that's been a well known thing floating around for a while, basically confirmed by that one artwork. See also >>96530978

Already got a box of blightkings for conversion bits. My original plan was converted chaos warriors but I’m gonna wait and see what the new units look like.
I am worried about the maggoth lords going away since I love those daemons they ride. Not sure it is worth losing sleep over though, since if the models go away then surely the rules will too?

If they kill the glottkin I'd be very sad but he can always be a great unclean one. Besides, festus is coming so clearly mortals from the old world can exist without many issues. But I was planning on getting Gutrot regardless, been waiting on this guy to get back to me on a 150 buck shudderblight cyst on top of what I've picked up.

I wasn't too impressed with the chorfs when first shown off but the artwork and alternate colour schemes is bringing me around to them. If they cut the battletome and release the spearhead for normal prices like they did with skellies and shitmob I might be tempted to pick up a spearhead and a couple of bull centaurs.

good news, the spearhead is the same as the army box just with the bull centaurs cut. You might as well get that

yeah, its definitely gotten worse over the last year or two, my flgs also said their GW rep was threatening to withhold their allocation of new products unless they buy $500+ of excess backstock of stuff that wasnt selling that they already had on their shelves (hint it wasnt aos or 40k), so they're trying to use scarcity of new stock to strong arm FLGS's into buying dead stock

Shooting sucks with the whole board obscuring and will be super easy to remove. No teleports, no recursion, no summoning, golems are slow as shit and useless without 3 dpp.
