Bro he means western European post viking.
>but but
yeah every armies going to be a bit different but people aren't out there counting scale, we're looking at archtypes.
you wanna know what you sound like, you sound like someone choosing to argue about the "standard Greek phalanx" you know what someone means.
classicists literally argue this for decades but i don't expect you get fucking antsy and be like "hurr what era." and break out Tyrtaeus, Homer and argue how much light infantry served in the phalanx.
you're not cool that you understand the topic in a bit more depth.
I took classics and i'll tell you, between all the roman orgies and the greek boy love you're acting like the biggest faggot by far.

Anyway the bigger issue is it doesn't make sense with the environment.
militaries exist as an extension of their regions and competitors, it's limited worldbuilding to say "humans are a generally Calvary heavy levy force" without explaining the environment that leads to it and it's cultural background.
Elves are generally seen as great archers, this can be very important. with longer lives and harder to replace people i'd expect elves to focus on quality of troops and supplement with racial levies or summoned units.
more to the point armies require tremendous logistical strength that elves can't likely overcome.
elvish armies without magical assistance would by nature be very defensive. they cannot over extend, or be of really large size and most importantly they cannot afford to lose lives like humans can.
pre industrial warfare is incredibly expensive and only a few people can really afford to be full time soldiers so they'd need to either be the warrior class or have a strong militia culture (see tudor bow training)
the real swing is magic, strong and powerful magic can wipe out armies. if elf mages reach say black company general tiers then they don't need to worry, just drop the Elf limper in a battlefield and that's a deterrent
