I don't like the ritualposter but I'm starting to build premodern mono blue skies. I already collected one of each old frame foil basic so I can foil out most of the deck. I'm wondering if I can get away with 2 Faerie Conclave or 2 Mishra's Factory or something but being a Daze Gush deck it seems like it leans very heavily on having consistent islands.

I would love to play Cube, but my legacy playgroup usually splits immediately after legacy finishes so we only play once or twice a year. Reading the card explains the card. I'll break it down for you once, but if I have to explain again I will stop being so polite.

For 2 mana, CSC gives the equipped creature +1/+1, Haste and Trample. When you cast your second spell on a turn, it makes a 1/1 with Prowess. Prowess means that when you cast a noncreature spell it gets +1/+1. You may equip CSC to that token when it is made.

This means that if you have a 1 drop after CSC, you have paid 3 mana for at least at least a 2/2 Haste, Trample, Prowess. If the token dies or is removed, you will generate a new one the next time you play two spells in a turn. If the cutter is removed, you still have the 1/1 Prowess token creature. If the token lives and you cast two spells on your next turn, you have the original token at 3/3, and can shuffle the cutter on to the new token to swing wider, or leave it up as a chump blocker for your 4/4 Trample.

This is all just on the card. Now consider what else you can play in Red or Izzet and you can see how this is going to quickly generate retarded amounts of value that is difficult to remove.

Very often when I'm playing against that Simulacrum Synthesizer deck by turn 4 or 5 I'm like, welp I guess I can never win from here and then my opponent blunders 14 times and I end winning. Is the deck harder to play than it looks, am I overrating my opponents' hands and openings? What's going on here?

i'd say magic died in 2020 with the introduction of fire and secret lair. each set after eldraine has been progressively shittier and more pushed, modern horizons has rotated modern and turned it in to a joke format so much premodern became a thing, wotc tested ub in standard with dnd (no one understood it) and the competitive scene died with coroners

There's actually a way to embrace and manage powercreep at the same time, dependent upon rotation. MTG has different, sometimes redundant categories of cards. You could have, say, an artifact set, where you creep the power of those cards specifically. Then in the next set you can creep some other class of card, like maybe you can make Auras relevant for awhile, and while you're making that set you also throttle artifacts back in power. And hopefully by the time you're running out of specific categories of cards to get safely and temporarily power crept that first artifact-centric set rotates out.

That's half the problem. The other half of the problem is that what can be portrayed on a Magic card has fundamentally shifted. It's just not as fun to turn a 3rd party character or a meme into a card because that's just WotC standard business now. Goofy top down flavor designs like Giant Cactaur are just real cards now. The whole damn game is one big un-set and that makes it increasingly hard to take it seriously and get invested enough to think up even half-serious custom cards.

I've been playing some Moneyball Black lately. The deck is good, so much so that I don't know where to go with it. It's like Grixis Delver -there's nothing to add or subtract, other than small changes to the sideboard and one or two flex slots. We know what more aggressive or controlling black lists look like, what splashes look like, etc.
Anyway I haven't intentionally looked at a new Magic card in years, so that's nice.

The first two are opposed and there's a chance that your opponent just has it on top (remember, you have to win the Clash, not tie) so it's already a high-risk mechanic hindered by the fact that every Clash spell's fail-case is overcosted AND lets your opponent Scry 1.

The only Clash cards that are relevant are

9th edition, ravnica block, with time spiral and panar chaos. It had Richard Garfield returning to design ravnica after more then a decade of how the game is played. I'm sure he influenced time spiral block. Brine elemental decks allowed monoblue lockdown decks.
Future sight was the death of old school style gameplay. you get tarmogoyf, free spells and it was almost the first set with planeswalkers. Along with other tools to push dredge into the top decks. Lorwyn meta was dominated by jace liliana. Then you get mythic rares in shards of alara. Kamigawa meta was dominated by senseis divining top and jitte. There were two copies of boomerang that allowed owling mine to be a deck. Before kamigawa you had to deal with affinity in the top, essentially cheating on mana. Idk much before that but the top decks look balanced between control, combo and aggro unless a combo becomes to broken.
