Another week, another chapter in the tale of the Techpriestess! Today, we conclude last weekend's introduction of a would-be antagonist to everyone's favorite heretek, continued from >>96489280

>Inquisitor Dominic Corsini spent the next thirty years of his life pursuing Salafié, reclaiming one machine-ravaged world after another, yet always one step behind his prey. On Penatares IV, he saw a once-verdant agriworld reduced to an ashen desert scoured by mountain-sized automated refineries that crept across lifeless plains beneath a smog-choked sky. On Fulkengrad, he witnessed thousands upon thousands of innocent Imperial citizens entombed in a vault deep beneath the planet's surface, victims of a truly blasphemous experiment. There they lay, alive but not alive, dead but not dead, their minds and very souls drawn out of their pallid forms by arcane neural circuitry, forever lost in a synthetic "afterlife" of the Priestess' design.

>Here and on countless other worlds, the works of Salafié had familiarized Inquisitor Corsini with all the myriad horrors technology can visit upon mankind. And with each year, the Inquisitor's hatred grew, reaching such a terrible frenzy that merely to escape from the depredations of the Priestess was to become a suspect. In those days, the fate of many who survived her atrocities was almost worse than those who perished in her grasp.

>Once, the Inquisitor had even seen Salafié from afar: Pursuing her to the peak of a spire high above a burning city, Inquisitor Corsini burst out into the tempest-wracked night and witnessed a crimson specter ascending the ramp of a dropship across a landing pad slick with rain and crowded with loathsome, shambling automata. Yet she did not even turn to look at him as he opened fire, and as the mechanical horde pressed in around him, the Inquisitor could only watch as the dropship boosted into orbit where some unknown ship doubtless waited to whisk the Priestess away beyond his grasp...

>Things continued in this manner until, seemingly overnight, the name of Salafié went from a fearful whisper at fringes of Imperial space to being sung in heroic cheers on every street corner of the Segmentum. But how could it be?! Though he knew it not at the time, Inquisitor Corsini had at last encountered the vast propaganda apparatus of the Von Nassau-Mendoza dynasty.

>Scarcely had the Inquisitor begun to investigate these rumors when word came that this Rogue Trader had petitioned the High Lords of Terra to pardon the Techpriestess. Shocked and horrified, Inquisitor Corsini summoned a council of his fellow Inquisitors to warn them of what could only be a vast and terrible conspiracy. He told them of worlds laid waste by this mad heretek, and begged them not to heed the tales of her triumph against the forces of Chaos, for what was one good deed weighed against generations of wickedness?

>Yet, when they asked him for proof of his accusations, there was none to be found. At archive after archive, Corsini discovered that reports documenting a lifetime of investigation had vanished or were edited into unrecognizable nonsense, while Administratum clerks assured him he must merely be misremembering. Once more, the Inquisitor had been one step behind his foe, his visits preceded by the Rouge Trader's agents, whose bribes had more than sufficed to persuade the clerks to betray their oaths.

>In that moment, watching those vile scribes lie to him from behind cynical smiles, draped in finery their wages could never have paid for, the Inquisitor finally understood the truth: He was opposed not by a lone heretic, but by the all-encompassing power of a trading dynasty whose machinations had frustrated his every effort for seven long decades. But more than that, he saw arrayed against him the very rot at the heart of the Imperium. Here were men both great and small for whom lust for money and power stood above faith in the God-Emperor and love of humanity...

>He knew now that he could not hope for aid from his fellow Inquisitors. What they would say if he tried to explain the situation but that he had gone mad, or worse, was simply a senile old fool? For Inquisitor Corsini was indeed in the twilight years of his life; eschewing the juvenat treatments and bionic organs that granted his brethren unnatural longevity. How, he wondered, could they bear to pollute the holiness of the human form with such artifice, merely for a few more years of life? Cowardice! Heresy!

>Betrayed by his superiors, abandoned by his brethren, and opposed by such wealth and power as he could scarcely comprehend, Inquisitor Corsini sought solace in prayer, and deep in solemn contemplation, the Inquisitor at length came to understand what must be done. His ancient foe had revealed herself at last, and pardon or no pardon, he had sworn an vow to the God-Emperor that she would die by his hand. Not one foot would she step upon Holy Terra while he drew breath!

>Yet even if he stood alone against all the galaxy, it mattered not, for the Emperor was with him. And if his vengeance should cost him his life, what would it matter? For seventy years, he had lived only to visit justice upon the woman who had destroyed his home world. So long as Salafié lived, there could be no peace for him, and if she were finally slain, what more was there for him to achieve?

>And thus, Inquisitor Corsini donned his penitent's hood once more, and requisitioning a frigate, set forth on what he knew would be his final mission.

Andris watches as Autumn starts to move towards her brother. Seeing him cautiously brace himself, she speaks up.
>Don't worry, she's not dangerous. She's just coming to talk.
She watches the plants slowly cover his legs as Autumn gets much closer than she expected.

Sunblaze trusts his sister but he could feel the tip of the snake's tail touch his legs within seconds of her speaking up. His eyes catch the fae's for just a second and his mind goes blank. The beast wraps herself around him slowly, holding him in place, unwilling and unable to react. She reaches out one hand and runs a single nail down his cheek while she hisses a whisper in her indescribable and indestructible native tongue.
>Cur will take Anger to the vile meat in the place I cannot go. She will extract where to find the others like it. Anger will not harm any of Dahlia's pets like you.
She twists herself away from him as she turns back to his sister. The impossible compulsion makes him turn without a word and walk towards the city, Ilska in tow.

Andris is aghast as Autumn returns. She'd heard what was said, including the power behind the words. The words had no effect on her because her brother had been directly commanded with precision, but that didn't make it better. Autumn smiles happily as she returns, pointing to a stone nearby.
>Sit and speak? Talk nicely with friend. Have wounds recovered?

As she fully grasped what Autumn told to her brother, Andris appeared rather displeased with its tone.
>I don't appreciate the way you speak to him, nor what you call him. He's not my minion or property. He's my brother, bound to me by blood. If he seems hostile it's only because he doesn't know you the way I do.
