Saurus guard, skinks, oldblood, skink priest, stegadon. Stegadon and the skink priest hold up really well but are getting up there.
Then personally I think the ripperdactyl has ages terribly, but the terradon actually holds up really well. They could also bring back stuff like the coatl or razordons.

Yeah. It's been leaked now by multiple sources that the 3rd edition campaign (which got axed after the first book, in part because of BoC getting banished) was also going to focus on Dwarf vs Skaven stuff for a while, culminating in a release of new Dispossessed models and Dwarf Soup.

ToW happens, dwarf soup gets canceled, Dawnbringers has to be hastily re-written in parts, Dispossessed have to go bye bye as well, GW goes back to the drawing board and decides they might as well get something out of the shelfed dwarf models they've already made by putting them with Fyreslayers.

Like six months ago, one of the more retarded leakers gets word that there's no "Fyreslayer" battletome on the release list, decides to cause a small panic by insinuating they're about to be squatted.

Fair take, but this was almost always the plan since GW takes fucking forever to fully update ranges. Old Dwarf models are probably going to be completely phased out, as will the old elf and Empire models that are still kicking around and be replaced by wholly new Cities models that match the current aesthetic. Yeah it made the "basic human" faction decently original, since it wasn't just basic humans. I guess now they got a kind of early gunpowder thing going which isn't done much I guess, but still they're pretty basic 'good guy human kingdom'. Making Cities a Human faction takes away a lot of it's aesthetic.
Stormcasts are lightning-magic humans, Kharadron are teched up Dorfs, Lumineth magic-methhead elfs etc.
So Cities should be the low fantasy versions of all the races that have to work together to compensate.

If the Dorfs are leaving as well they better at least add new races to CoS.

GW probably decided to scrap the WHF stuff with TOW, probably. The decision to go with a racial division was probably middle management interference because of 40k's formatting and sales performance transparency I guess.

hobgrots you could get away with as few as 0-20, they dont really do much besides cheap screens or objectives, they have almost no interactions with anything in the army, and for 20-30 points more you get boltboyz or monsta killaz which are worlds better

gutrippaz are a different story, i'd say most lists probably want at least 1 big unit of 20, which serves as your main midboard bait piece and buff concentrator. they're cheap enough that a good argument can be made for 2x20 running a dual push two sided board with supporting elements, since everything in KB has gotten so many points discounts.

10 man units without buffs wont be able to kill, but they are still 20 wound tarpits that you can shuffle around the board relatively easily, though most people prefer mosta killaz for the MSU role i think due to their better anti monster utility and better buffless combat profile. but if you can get gutrippaz for like $20/10 vs monsta killaz $60/8, you'll do just fine with the gutrippaz.

the trick is that a lot of the armies punch comes from boltboyz and monsters like the sludgeraker, kragnos, or the mirebrute, so make sure you leave enough points to include at least a few of them. vulture as well but the vulture is a bit harder to use with its massive base which is a real problem that doesnt show up on paper.

I think what people don't really understand yet, because AoS is still a young game comparatively, is that this is the direction GW will inevitably go in. Every army over time is going to get expanded with new models, new units, new subfactions until eventually they get to SC or average 40K/whfb army levels where they have so many units that 80% of updates are just cycling out old models with replacement versions.

That is the vision, that is the plan. Every once in a blue moon GW will shake things up with a new army, or shuffling subfactions around between books or whatever, but either way making every battletome and army range massive is absolutely the plan.

yes, actually if anything it has gotten more even handed over time. the focus in 1st and 2nd edition on stormcast was very high, bordering on space marine levels of favoritism in both releases and narrative, but the last edition or two that has been dramatically reduced, and seems to be declining more with every passing release, especially as the new cities of sigmar take more of a prominent role as the main narrative POV lense.

As for your question, unless gw captures that lightning in a bottle thing with space marines AGAIN in aos, we're safe. Aos is fairly diverse in faction themes, so it's especially hard for 1 faction to appeal to 75%+ (if counting csm) of the fans like marines do in 40k.

You don't need to pin morghast and they aren't that hard to put together. Just follow the instructions on the box.

I would get one of the new one and one of the old ones. Hell maybe even two of each and then buy Katakros.
New of the new box is kinda meh because, while four morghast is nice, you aren't going to need more than a reinforced unit of Immortis and stalkers are currently (unfortunately) not good (I have tried and tried to make them work but the damage simply isn't there). Also, you will never need more than one ossifector. On the other hand, multiple soul reapers (the scythe guy hero in the old box) is actually REALLY good right now (they have a bubble of minus one to wound that is great, and chain fight with infantry while giving them a +1 to hit). Mortek generally need to be in 20s to survive, and kavalos death riders are useful (if still constantly over pointed).

So new Ogors are going to be twice as tall as the current range just to distinguish it from TOW?
