Definitely, this was Mike Brooks’ first ork book, and GW was pants shitting scared that people may not like the orks, so they shoved the imperials/chaos into 75% of it as a safe option. Warboss and Big Dakka is far more balanced on the ork side because Brutal Kunnin’ was praised for its ork representation.

it usually alternate between Ork pov, an Iron Warrior and Zaepha, an tech priestess. Its still alright and its funny to see the Mechanicus having trouble anticipating the ork actions and having some of their plan blow back to them
I found Warboss & Da big dakka better, but keep in mind that they also mix viewpoints, Warboss has some Astra militarum POV, including a poor officer who becomes a Blood Axes prisonner. Da Big Dakka alternate between Uftakh, Snaggi & a Dark Eldar Archon. Her chapters are still pretty fun, especially the one where she gets ragebait during an interrogation.
Overall, the best ork book so far to me has been Gazkhull prophet of the Wagh, I even liked the inquisition chapter. Started out the Grotsnik audiobook, but don't have much opinion on it

I’d say the prisoner from the Warboss is also still pretty centered around orks anyway. he’s around them half the time, and he’s constantly giving his perspective on them that is different from the standard “what crude beasts destroying everything!” talk that most of the non-ork perspectives fall into. Warboss also still has a lot of stuff from Snaggi as well.
I finished Grotsnik recently, and it was kind of a drag if i’m going to be honest. There was an unholy lot of exposition from Grotsnik, and a lot of the fight scenes had characters chatting in between actions should be done in less than a second.
Though it did have some good parts. In particular I really liked the introduction of Valtun and his fellow Beast Snaggas. On their squigs staring at the poison lake immediately gave my mind an image of cowboys looking over a canyon which tickled my brain in a good way. The epilogue was also pretty cool.

Are there any cues you think 40k should take from GW's other wargames? Crunch, fluff, release format, models, etc.

Ork-speak is easily circumvented by having them speak more or less normally to each other aside from the occasional nod to keep the reader on the level with things like " We've got a plan to get around the 'umies and give 'em a proper krumpin" or "come 'ere, Da Boss wants to see you". But when heard by a non-Ork character all they hear is the gutteral Ork language that sounds like grunts and throut-bellows. If I were to write Ork dialogue, I would have the bigger/smarter ones sounding more 'normal' than the ones at the base of the hierarchy.

I get where GW were coming from by having everything follow the same statlines and dumping armor values in order to " " " streamline" " " the game, but I would just make it so that Vehicles have a minimum weapon Str requirement to be able to do damage based on the armor they have, except for things like going for broke and rolling back-to-back 6's on a Tank Shock. Maybe even instead of just a stack of Wounds, they have Damage Points, and a table you roll on to see how much damage and what kind of effect your hit had on the vehicle, that would go a long way to distinguish vehicles from just being a block of infantry you can't re-shape. Much to consider. Looking into this.

To be honest Sigmar and a lot of his rulers are benevolent while the average 40k hiveworld does make Skavenblight look like a utopia. Don't obsess over mistakes. Fix it up as best as you can, then move on to the next mini. An imperfect mini is better than an unpainted one.
A wet palette is better for keeping your paints wet during a painting session that between sessions, imo.
