Finally opened up a booster box of Lorcana's Fabled. Managed to get a Dumbo. That little grey bastard is up to $55 now. I want to use him, but getting 3 more feels like a daunting task.

If you actually play a game regularly and you happened to luck into opening the cheaper version of an expensive card due to its gameplay strength, then it's always a better idea to not sell it and keep playing with it. You'd just regret it later, even if collecting the full playset for it is unfeasible for you.
I don't actually play Lorcana though, so I don't know how usable that specific card is.

Actually, Dumbo here IS the cheaper version. The enchanted version (pic related) is going for around $350 right now. The reason the cheaper version is still so expensive is partly because it IS a very playable/desirable card. A quick run down for non-Lorcana players, the win condition for the game is to be the first to 20 Lore, and one of the most desirable effects in the game is card draw. Dumbo not only lets you gain a lore and draw a card (for the cost of 1 ink, or 'mana'), but allows every character with Evasive to share that ability (evasive is a common ability for Amethyst characters, similar to flying in MtG). And, at a cost of 4, you can play Dumbo fairly early in the game. If you built an evasive-themed deck around Dumbo, you could gain your 20 lore pretty quickly. But, again, having a full set of 4 would be ideal.

Alright as someone who plays GA from launch to now, its not the best anime tcg. I feel even Shadoba evolve has an edge over it gameplay wise. What I like is that it actually has a decent player rewards system and an aggressive ban philosophy. I just dont like how you can immediately tell a class/element will be tier 1 for like a couple of months because the set blatantly tells you that.

Yeah, I feel that. I wish they'd spread the set rotation throughout the year instead of piling it all into one set. Then Fabled would have less reprints and be a lot more desirable to collect. The only cards I really want out if this set are Dumbo, Circle of Life, Mickey, and Minnie. I like Goofy Movie, but I'm not really excited by the game mechanics on their cards.

Day two conversion rates are highly unexpected. Brute had a strong showing but got massively edged out in competition. Ranger isn't even a class anymore, they are a punching bag that skill checks your competency. Florian got decimated, which is weird to see with his return of power card.

Currently going through cards to make Android Netrunner decks. Showed a friend the game this past weekend and it made me really nostalgic. I only have stuff from the Fantasy Flight run, nothing from the Nisei continuation. Any other Netrunner fans? Favorite archetypes? I love NBN on the corp side. UW is miserable to play into, can't leave anything on your side because it gets tapped down and deleted or bounced, can't kill anything on their side because they get ultimate say on where every attack goes. the difference in the level of interaction is crazy

kyshatriya ping is a 2 card combo that doesn't come online until level 5 and eats your entire turn, red ping is slow and only starts to get going when everything has enough HP to not really give a shit about 1 damage
blue starts pinging you at level 2 with 1 resource drops, you can more easily flood board and stack pings to actually take out units

I'm sure you guys get this question all the time but I wanna try getting into card games. I've tried YuGiOh and MTG and hate how overly wordy the whole thing is and slow to get into.
I'm looking for a quick and fun game I could buy a deck or two, explain the game to a friend, and we're playing within minutes kinda like how it is to get someone into poker.

Whatever you pick you'll want your game to be popular, so that there's chance of you joining a larger local community and play with them too.
From anime themed TCGs the One Piece TCG is very much like that. Very simple rule set and a limited design space that's easy to get used to. The starter decks for that game are super cheap AND they include a sealed booster from the latest main set. Pic related is the latest english starter pack bundle and it's actually a great deal, although it contains special cards instead of sealed boosters but arguably that's better anyway.
From more western fantasy themed games Flesh and Blood is fairly popular and it has a pretty good rule system, although the design space is pretty wild. Every new hero (the card that the deck is based on) introduces a wildly different set of cards and type of gameplay with them. But the text boxes on the cards are always very short and to the point, even though they do crazy different things. I like that game the most out of everything that's available on the market right now. The rules are just too fair and balanced to not love it. The only issue there has been in the past is the slight pay to win structure of the game, but the latest set seems to be on a good path to fix that.
Also their tournament ready starter deck are twice as expensive as the One Piece starter decks and they don't even include anything special other than the shiny variants of common cards.

If you've already tried Magic and thought it was too complicated, you could always try Lorcana. Some people might get filtered out because it's Disney, but if you can look past that, it's actually a really fun game. It's similar to Magic in a lot of ways, but more streamlined and more beginner friendly.

for this kind of fast "pick up and play" experience I probably wouldn't go to a TCG first. there's a lot of small box games with TCG-like strategy gameplay that don't require having a lot of cards or preparing ahead of time. you can ask in /bgg/ too for some recs (since this general is more about trading/collecting than game mechanics) but check out shit like radlands, smashup, star realms, omen reign of war, gudnak, guardians, exceed fighting system, shit like that.

I bought the Beta Prebuilt deck box for Sorcery Contested Realm, and have played about 4 games atp. Its incredible desu. I've mostly only played pokemon tcg and mtg. Never really liked mtg and so I was skeptical of this game because I figured it was the same. I was very wrong, its more like chess/stratego than anything. My only gripe is that some of the rules could be a bit more clear but they are trying to be vague on purpose because instead of having a paragraph on the card, they just designed individual systems for resolving actions. I really hope more people give this tcg a chance cause I haven't had so much fun in a very long time.

Question for the Wixoss players. What are you guys playing now that the game died?

Had a really awkward conversation with the LGS owner on Monday. He was complaining that they were only really making money off of snacks and drinks. I told him if they would kindly order some of Neopets set 4 that they'd at least make a bit of money.
He then went on this long rant about how they're not going to stock any more Neopets because they barely make 40% on the products, so it's not worth his time, and he doesn't want it just sitting on the shelves wasting space.
The thing is, while I understand his concerns, I guess he doesn't know that I buy literally all of their stock every time it comes in. The other employees have been ordering it for me, and in return I make sure none of it collects dust on the shelves.

They also have a points system in the store that you can use for discounts. $1 = 1 point, the usual routine. I just let them build up, because I'm not really worried about it. I've got thousands of points.

It's been tried many times. basically every variety of foils, alt arts, borderless, etc as promos, box toppers, prizes, store rewards, club rewards, it's all been done.

like a few months ago i started watching people opening alpha/beta magic stuff on youtube and got the itch to give it a try. I went down to my lgs and bought some bloomburrow because that was the closest thing to old magic there was, and it was cool i guess but i was disappointed that it wasn't what it used to be anymore and you'ed have to be a millionare to collect alpha magic. Cutting to the chase, i found sorcery and have no interest in playing magic or any other card games but sorcery. Opening packs is so much fun and i cant think of a better game to start with because its really all about fun for most players and less about just collecting shit you don't care about for $$$. I even found a curio after opening not many boxes. Beta and arthurian legends boxes might go down in price after gothic comes out, who knows, but if this game really catches on, that stuff might start getting expensive

That format wasn't the greatest because it was using all rarities at only one less copy than what it required in classic constructed so it wasn't even that much of a good alternative for limited budgets. Now they're retiring the format to make way for a better one that only cares about commons and rares. They previously had a format called Commoner, but it's so brain-dead to deck build for and there are entire heroes that live and die by their access to rare effects. The new format will be much better received and it will fulfill its job of serving as a powered down and cheaper variant to the premiere format.

yeah i've looked into this and 2019 digimon never really appreciated, (some digimon tcg from the 2000s is worth like $500 a box today though) The DBS tcg has a little, the 1st ed boxes are $200 today. Either way, I think gundam's performance is much more closely following one piece's than either of those games.
