I play magic at one of the bigger magic stores in Texas. They have 5 prereleases that usually sell out with more than 100 slots. I think that happened once with spiderman. They do sealed on Friday and drafts Wednesday and Sunday. I’m pretty sure they have fired a grand total of once combined since Spider-Man released.

Hi, anon. I have been playing since Beta. No, not the beta version of Arena, but Beta the fucking physical card set. You are the fucking tourist. This set looks awful and has all of the hallmarks of the bad design that made even the most diehard of whales avoid Spider-Man like the plague. This set (and others like it) do nothing but actively damage the game - both the playerbase and the game its self are worse off for it.

Hasbro is incapable of understanding why FF and to a lesser extent LotR were actually successful and they are going to ride that lack of understanding into the dirt. It is correct to deride bad decisions when they are this blatant and they should be called out on them.

Because April is a variable character whose original depiction was ethnically ambiguous, but the cartoon had her as a white redhead and that stayed for years until Rise made her black and Mutant Mayhem did its own thing. She could realistically be any look as long she's the standard human woman ally of the turtles. The company who makes this game truly are based for making all these crossover set exactly like the game i grew up with; Fortnite. Maybe you keep making fun of them because you can't afford to buy cards?

Here's the thing about edh. It's 1000% on wotc for fucking up 60 card formats. edh is a dogshit way for new players to learn the game, its a cumbersome, intentionally hands off format with a massive cardpool.
why is edh popular then? its because you can build a shit deck for cheap and play at any store in the country and have a fighting chance. wotc had several good, fun formats around the time I started playing (2015sih). The problem was it was very expensive to get into modern and obviously legacy was too but so is standard if you play for long enough to get fucked by rotation.

the obvious fact is that creative at WotC saw a chance to do a thing that they love doing for cultural/ethical/aesthetic reasons, which is to make a rendition of a character that's known as white -- everybody knows the yellow jumpsuit cartoon version of April, plus she was white in the movies, etc etc etc -- as a black person. this is a clearly established pattern of behavior, it shouldn't be confusing to anyone why this happened. Presumably they would have loved to make black Sephiroth too but one assumes that Marvel and Square Enix said or they assumed they would say no, and Paramount or Nick or whoever said yes so they jumped at the chance.

Now is it possible that some creative or executive snickeringly noted, in the course of whatever internal meeting in which mtg April was designed, that the original design for April (which relatively few people are even familiar with) is *claimed* to have been "intended" to be ethnically ambiguous by *one* of the *two* people who designed her (never mind the fact that the other designer says that she wasn't), and that therefore making this new version of the character black isn't "technically" "blackwashing"? sure, I imagine something like that might have been said at the time. but that's not relevant to the question of WHY they did it. They didn't do it because the "original" April was black (she wasn't), they didn't do it because the *most recent* Aprils were black, they did it because they enjoy marring white things with the presence of black people. they just love it.
