Actually made me look at the current spearheads, not counting like deals via stormbringer or other bullshit... I'd say the worst one is probably DoK? Warlocks are basically just a meatshield, snakes are good but you don't need more than one of the heroes and some generic witch elves are eh? No centerpiece or big value, just kinda feels eh. I'd swap the warlocks for spear snakes.

And I'll ask anons, what do you think the personal best spearhead is? (We'll say counting points per dollar ratio, units in the box, or just how good it is as a whole) Having just got one, the Nurgle one is fucking fantastic, 2 of those and you're basically set on all your base units and can just nab some heroes or whatever else you'd need.

I was half tempted to say fyreslayers because all things considered it's pretty lame, just a bunch of pretty samey infantry since it's all just the early on vanilla stuff. I despise the new kharadron spearhead because it's such a downgrade from the old one AND it's basically identical to the old start collecting box except double the price now because fuck you. I mean how the fuck do you go from a frigate to a gunhauler and still end up with less minis in the box?! At least put one of the new kits in there.

In contrast to the above, the new idoneth spearhead is amazing. Insane value, and everything in there is useful. Reavers are decent, two sets of eels which are your bread and butter (and are dual build), and finally an akhelian king which is a great beatstick centrepiece. Clocks in at like a 40% discount, at least before price hike. The old spearhead wasn't bad either, you trade one of the eels for a shaerk, get thralls instead of reavers (definite downgrade), but instead of the massive king you get a normal foot hero which kinda sucks (even if I love the sculpt). So yeah new one is a definite upgrade. If you can find one of the old boxes, the two spearheads together are actually a damn good start to an army, just throw one big centrepiece in there and I think you're mostly there for a 2k list.

Theoretically if every single WHF faction pre-end times was put into the Grand Orders, what would that look like?

The two units Helsmiths require are an AoS version of the Infernal guard and the Lammasu.
The Infernal guard would be a heavily armoured, 2 wounds, hard to kill suicide unit that deals out mortal wounds and must always charge if able due to a rule that reflects their desire to atone for a failure in their past.
The Lammasu would be a mount for an Ashen Elder and would be not as powerful in melee but be able to cast unique spells and it'd have a rule called something like "Bewitchment" that forces an enemy unit to suffer a -1 to hitting it in melee (likely on a 3+ since this is 4th edition :l)
I'd also like either a Hobgrot wolf rider unit. or the ability to take Gitmob with the HoH to represent 'em.

AoS NEEDS some non-human undead models. Give me a unit of undead Orcs or dwarves or something.

I can't help but have the feeling AoS is the homebrew OC making setting. It's lore is mostly composed of fun and interesting faction ideas that usually happen to be a bit more out there than TOW's ones while the whole idea of realms and such seems to be growing towards building your own warband and OCs based off one big trait that comes with them
AoS' main appeal are the models and the homebrewing for me not gonna lie

I'm not ignoring anything, there are northern populations of dwarfs that have remained isolated from the normal karaks, it makes thematic sense for said norse dwarfs to have norse themes, dwarfs and gnomes have been noted as being close in some places, and the enmity between dwarfs and athel loren, or dwarfs and elves is much much older, allowing for such an alliance.


You cannot be genuinely arguing that people cannot possibly add things in order to homebrew something, home-brewing something REQUIRES adding things, if you were to apply the same logic to aos then root kings wouldn't be possible in there either because proposing them requires adding things or ignoring what's been already established as the norm for sylvaneth and dwarfs.

Forgot to reply earlier, but this box aint so bad. The huanchi hunter box is just a refreshed chameleon skink kit with little pteradons tacked on. And the sunblood pack is just a sunblood with two little bodyguards. I'm generally not a big fan of sidegame units in spearheads too, but seraphon make it work. Darkoath savagers are cool too, and I guess the city of sigmar dudes aint so bad. But then for example the ogre mantrapper with his 4 little tokens looks kinda weird in the box, the spearhead thats oops all flesh hounds is also not great for starting khorne, etc. It's a case by case basis typd thing for me.

I had a lot more fun with my gitzmixed with the underworld bands. And got ravaged by ossiarch everytime, but I had fun.
HoH main problem for me is that any kill mission was a game over. They might have played better if they were fully painted, just maybe.

i really hate this about age of sigmar. age of sigmar has always been terrible about foot heroes, and never moreso than right now.

in 40k, you've got shit like a lietuenant or captain or gsc primus or a warboss or whatever else all coming in at like 60-80pts, same stats more or less as their aos counterparts but MUCH better buffs, they can attach to squads to they cant be killed except by assassins, and they usually have access to some pretty great enhancements and strategems too.

then if you go up to 100-120pt range you get absolute monsters like helbrecht or logan grimnar who are rocking light of eltharion level combat profiles

then you look at how old world does it, same option to join units, incredibly cheap base profiles as low as like 50pts, and instead of having giga strong buffs like 40k, they have access to these massive armories of magic items or runes where you can customize endlessly, throwing an extra 50-100pts of magic items and banners and potions and shit on there. you can customize your wizard level, your weapon types, upgrade them with mounts, etc

aos fails foot heroes so fucking hard. both in terms of core rules and warscrolls, it often feels like they've given up on the role all together. in every other warhammer game, weather its 40k or old world or HH or whatever, the 5 wound foot hero are usually some of the most desirable units, cornerstones of their armies.

in aos they very often just feel like a tax, an afterthought

The want for removing flames kinda range for all sorts of reasons.Some see the removal of flames as the removal of free will, others just think it would change the status quo on how the forces of order will tackle corruption (the idea here is that fire, a purifying symbol, will no longer be present to ward off chaos taint), and others think that people would become more dependent on tzeentch when regular flames are no longer accessible.

My slaves of darkness remain in a chaos fortress in Ghur, which serves as a checkpoint for Archaon's main forces and is led by a demon prince. My Nurgle army is lead by a Daemon Prince aligned with Rotigus, they are the Three Winds Trading Company.

They travel from port to port offering to do scabwork or to do services cheap as possible, in the dead of night they move boxes and load or unload ships, also unloading boxes infested with rot or nurglings. Yeah the dice are faggy, but there are lore reasons for the long helmets; rather they're good is up to you (I personally find them kinda lazy but don't mind the look so I don't care). Elves in all warhammer settings have hair that grows upward, so the long helmets are typically meant to prevent your hair from matting and looking bad, they also accommodate for pointy/sensitive ears. It also is meant to give them an imposing silhouette. In all reality it's just meant to make them look distinct.

I wish they did an Underworld warband for the stormcucks from the new show, I mean, the Lion guy, the double hammer dude and the other guy who suicided by going thirst.

The main aesthetic issue with Orruks is there is no bridge between Ironjawz and KB. The gap between Dispossessed and Fyreslayers is even bigger than bigger Orc and skinny Orc

I would say its actually the opposite because the origin of fyreslayers is in WFB slayers that were always part of the bigger dwarf army.
The problem with kruelboyz/ironjawz is that they almost look like 3 different species while dwarfs are dwarfs, just having the old dwarf models next to fyreslayers in a unified paint scheme makes them look pretty good and coherent.

So the guy that made a video about designing spearhead had another one about warcry a few days ago, for which he was the lead rules writer . Some interesting stuff in there, it was originally supposed to be warbands from the different realms doing gladiatorial fights, you can still see this is in some of the warbands being very obviously tied to specific realms (iron golems chamon, fire dudes aqshy, cypher lords hysh, untamed beasts, ghur, ...). Also apparently the choice to make it kill team 2.0 instead of just focused on those warbands happened very early in development, which kinda surprised me.
Also some general design stuff in there. Apparently 3rd edition was supposed to have special 12d dice for monsters lmao.

the problem with ronjaws and kruleboys isn't that they don't have a bridge, because they do have one, their bridge is not a third element that sits in-between them but both building from a core concept that's simple, an orc, each of them taking just one step to separate it from that starting point (an orc but skinny, or an orc but 'hard')
meanwhile the dwarf concepts that have been turned into aos armies were already separated by one degree from the middle point, so the aos result is something that might get considered "overwrought" (a dwarf, but berserker, but with fire, and magic gold runes in its skin that..., or a dwarf but engineer, and a skynaut, and using magic gold gas that...)

so the problem between a dwarf soup and an orc soup is different, in the latter the problem is that they would arguably have bridges with moonclans and gitmobs too but are split arbitrarily, and this arbitration is poorly justified or hypocritical
if they were together they would exist without a real middle ground but they would still be perfectly in balance because the 4 extremes they represent are equal thematic opposite poles that each starts from simpler and already affine core concepts
and those can be juxtaposed or mixed in various functional ways


dwarf soup, due to the way larger chasm between the concepts, does indeed have a problem in the lack of a bridge, but that's not a problem that there would be between normal dwarfs and fire dwarfs, that's a problem that there would be between fire dwarfs and sky dwarfs
the problem with a soup of fire dwarfs and normal dwarfs is that the resulting combination is lopsided, because the two aren't opposites*
that lopsidedness would be solved by the dwarf soup have kharadrons too

I'm not going to jump to conclusions. We got a rumor just last night about two new Fyreslayer units (A Grimnir powered robot and a huge battering ram with slayers hanging off of it) and today Whitefang confirmed that the total number of kits being added is more than 9 so I'm pretty confident Slayers will be getting a decent amount of love alongside the new boys. (though obviously most of the new kits will be for the normal dwarfs, just because they're starting from zero)

The problem is not that they can't work together in the fluff but that they have no visual cohesion.
Orcs ,goblins and trolls were designed as one army from the beginning and the concept of the "greenskin horde" has been a fantasy staple for decades.
If you look at the TOW orc and goblin miniatures they have the same visual themes.
