Vhordrai is pretty sick and definitely the one I want most.
Troggoths are like 1000 points in a box so its amazing value.
Sylvaneth are great if you missed out on 2022 box since its pretty much the same
EC box is honestly not bad if you dont have fulgrim. Its basically the same as Angron's exalted of red angels and Magnus' court of crimson king. The only reason people arent as hyped for this one is Fulgrim kinda sucks ingame and most people that wanted him already got one.

Overall the battleforces this year are kinda meh, AoS the big winner for sure.

i am trying to intergrate my airbrush more into my hobbying and not just for priming or basecoating and varnishing.

Pic rel was my last word bearer and I'm working on the rest of the squad. I want to use my airbrush to basecoat and highlight all of the red parts. I will see if it's faster than spraying it all metallic and hand painting the red parts. Pic rel is my usual method and I like how the shade adds contrast and definition.

Does anyone paint infantry like this? Do you just up the brightness of the paint and spray from a higher angle as you build highlights?

You know what grinds my gears? How GW treats upgrade kits: they put all that stuff in there for 2 main reasons:
1) To make you buy other kits to use the options you had to buy
2) So they only have to make 1 kit and call it a day

You know what REALLY grinds my gears? How new marines, both in 40k in HH, have shitty powerpack connection systems: HH has a pill shape, 40k has a square shape, BUT both have the connection reversed for the jumppacks.

That despite GW doing the same 5 poses for all their HH marines, they are CUT DIFFERENTLY, meaning that you can't easily swap parts around: I have to BUILD THE FUCKING MARINE before CUTTING HIM

has anyone used the john blance paint set volume 2 from AP? I have the first edition set and it's really great. I like all the colors (the contrast paint is mostly for glazing or tinting) but it lacks a good orange or red and blue. It was fun limiting myself to those 8 paints while maintaining coherency. For the sake of 3 kits (PA, TDA and Dreadknight) you can modernise the whole thing. If done in the same manner as Deathwatch where they are left with the same weapon options, I think it would sell incredibly well. In the style of Crowe where they are upscaled and reproportioned but not Primaris.

Hello /40kg/, I've been playing some of the recent Warhammer vidya (Rogue Trader) and was thinking about getting into the hobby. I had some questions if anyone would be so kind as to help me out:
1) What's a decently sized force for a beginner to field? I've seen references to everything from between 500 to 2000 points.

2) I really like the aesthetic of mainly the Inquisition guys (although, to my understanding they don't exactly have their own faction in the tabletop?) and the Orks. I am kind of reluctant with the latter because at a glance they seem more like a horde faction, and their painting seems quite involved for a beginner because of how many little bits and pieces they have on their models. I guess the question is whether there's any way to play with the Inquisition, and if it's possible to be more elite with the Orks.

3) Is it best to buy online directly from GW, go to a GW brick and mortar (I'm in the UK and it's not too difficult to find them), or find a third party store?

Sisters of Battle and Black Templars don't really speak to me quite so much unfortunately, the Space Marine aesthetic is cool but not exactly what I'm looking for and the nuns with guns thing is a bit out there for me.

Got another game today. Won this time. I had to use one of the drop pods defensively to block deepstrikes which was a good move in the end but meant my infernus + librarian block did nothing all game except run and hold an objective. My assault squad got stomped but they managed to screen a unit of CSM + lord in a rhino that wanted to jump on my vindicator. The vindicator got tied up for two turns but wiped them all out and managed to kill a unit of obliterators the next turn so they earned their pay. The MVPs were the drop pod with the multimelta devastators and half a tactical squad with melta and multimelta who managed to drop on the other side of the board, kill a forgefiend and a rhino before dying. This was crucial because the rhino had a unit of noise marines inside that was now in the open so my land raider redeemer could toast them alive. As for the land raider, after killing the noise marines, survived a round of shooting against the enemy vindicator (thanks to smoke + armour of contempt) and then delivered my terminators + captain who then smacked the vindicator in melee and then held the objective for three turns against some chosen, cultists, a rhino, a round of shooting of the noise marines before the land raider killed them and a sorcerer. All in all it worked pretty well but for the next round at 2000 points I think I need a whirlwind to stay at the back and ward from deepstrikes while still doing something so I don't have to use a drop pod and another chaff unit so I have more bodies. Maybe another tactical or a 10 man assault on foot.

Neither of these anons but both games are good. Darktide is more advanced in some of the backend stuff and has a more satisfying mobility loop and much better RPG mechanics (skill tree is better than the wow style pick 1 of 3 talent trees). That's a product of it being the 3rd game the studio has made. I still play VT1 sometimes as well. Nothing lets me hit flow state like Darktide though, it has such an insanely rewarding balance of mobility offense and defense. It's audio queues are fantastic and really give you a feeling of peripheral vision if you become good enough.
