I've been wondering and this might be more fitting for a board that covers myths or theology but elves from norse myth seem somewhat similar to I believe they're called the Tuatha from celtic myth or Daimons/Daemons (I believe the ancient greeks had both these and classical demons we think of when we hear the word) from greek myth, some form of ancestor spirit that can be communicated with and sometimes comes down to earth to bless random individuals, so I'm wondering what other versions might be found in say slavic, baltic or other european pantheons

In Silm (LOTR doesn't narrate much of romance, except its' conclusion in a royal wedding), the problem with incompatible lifespans was solved by divine fiat. It helped that there were only three human-elf pairings in several thousand years of recorded history.

In the games I run, I usually give elves animal ears and animal tails, and reserve the traditional pointy-eared look for half-elves.

Elves already have nature-themed associations, so I do not find this to be too great a stretch.

And yes, I often wind up giving them touches of East Asian culture, mostly China due to gacha brain rot.

1) The starting scenario is that PCs meet up as prisoners on a pirate ship on a trip to be sold as slaves. PCs should have 0 gold and 0 items. Some crew of the pirate ship mutinies and the pirate campain is forced to recruit the prisoners to crew the ship.

They often have. The games just never take place during these times.
In my settings, elves used to be the top-dogs in their respective worlds, many thousands of years ago. Then they accidentallied themselves, fought gigantic civil wars, fought against some ancient evil or some magical catastrophe happened. And the meta-reason for why we aren't allowed to play games during these times is that humans have to be the center of everything, and their time is after the elves.
This is fantasy 101.
