Look up some guides for faces, one layer won't do it. You can get away with one layer for armour etc, but the human brain doesn't accept it for looking at faces.

Man the demon primarchs are looking fucked up.

Imperium Nihilus was fundamentally a dumb idea because the worst stuff you will see is random planets falling, which you also see across Imperium Sanctus. It won't actually change or give any hint that it has all fallen.

They added it because they clearly felt they had to give the Imperium a huge L when returning Guilliman, the son of god. It just feels so silly and forced. "Well, Guilliman came back but also it totally sucked lmao." I'm not a fan, I'd rather they just keep the setting static or lean into wanting it to be *bit* less grimdark. Pick a lane.

The nihlus part isn't that interesting but I kinda like the rift itself. Crossing points being contested and all that. Adds a bit of interesting geography to the galaxy map. Like having to fight for control of a critical mountain pass.

10 months after I started building, I'm finally making progress on painting my necrons.

Finished a ten man immortals unit, and I managed to not fall into my usual "Everything has to be just right" trap that makes me take obscene amounts of time to paint models.

I've got 3 Lokhust heavy destroyers almost finished out, too. At this pace I might be done by March.

Yeah, I just winged it though, flattened some greenstuff, draped it over the skull and shaped it a bit. After curing I went back and added a few more folds with extra greenstuff to make it a bit more interesting.

Any thoughts on what I should do with the axe? Wondering if I should freehand some ghostly shit on it or if I just keep it simple and do blood. Also the eyes, do I even bother with the glow? The dead dark sockets are kinda growing on me.

It's not beautiful, but you can fill an entire play board to acceptable level cheap and easy. Search for '28mm MDF terrain', I used a site called Dark Castle terrain but that's Australian so may not work for you. I mostly got it unpainted as that's cheaper and used a granite effect spray paint.

3d printed Gothic ruins are the next step up, but I'd rather spend my time modelling units than terrain.

I really like the lore of the Nephrekh Dynasty but dear god the idea of having an entire all gold army is very unappealing to me. Thought about doing them in a mix of black and gold with the higher ranked necrons having more gold and the overlord being all gold but i don't know. Might just do different or custom dynasty. I like the Tsarakura Dynasty's color scheme.

I like to build modular terrain. I buy Citadel/GW kits and combine them with scratchbuild terrain. I prefer 2x4 or 2x2 modular flat boards to make the table.

Most players should get a neoprene wargaming mat and a mix of L ruins crafted out of foamcore and pink foam LOS blocking rocks/hills if you can. Try crafting your own terrain and making your own table at one point in the coming years.

Decided to go with a weird alien purple base by dropping some Astrogranite and then washing it with Druchi Violet, then drybrushing some Genestealer Purple/Dechala Violet. I got some purple/pink tufts around somewhere that should look nice on them, but I wanted to test a Tyranid Paintscheme for when I do the models that have Tyranid stuff on their bases like the Terminator Captain.

The FOC was a godsend in that it forced minimum and maximum units and did some good defense against spamming and cheesy bullshit. Ditching the FOC was the right move. Needing to spend a couple of hundred points on crap units to fulfill the 2 troop requirement sucked for pretty much everyone except marines. 1500 should be the standard game size. GW knew it too, throughout 4th and 5th codex updates and Chapter Approved rulesets gave more and more exceptions to the standard FOC.

However, I would compromise that having a FOC is good, if it's made different to apply to each army rather than ebing universal ie, Eldar only have 2 Troops but 4 Elite and require one of each pus the HQ.

Yeah this is also a high consideration but in the end I would just have basic marines without any of the cool units those super special chapters have. At the very least I need to decide on the parent chapter to make the successor chapter unless I go with Wolves but I dislike both Wulfen and Thunderwolf Cavalry and if they don't get updated next edition I'll cry. Still everything new for them looks great.

The fanon is that they're all idiots that don't understand the scientific method, but that definitely isn't true of the leaders. However, you forget that the biggest factor that humanity is doomed under Imperium's rule, and the reason why the modern Imperium is so over the top brutal and straight up evil in some cases is due to the corruption and rot that has set into it over the course of 10 000 years.

What the Imperium is now in the M41, is NOT at all what the Emperor ever envisioned for humanity. The modern Imperium is a failed state that is barely being held together by the societal and govermental equivalent of chewing gum and ductape. And constantly, every year, Imperium's strangle hold is weakening because of the said corruption, rot and stagnancy that has infested it for so long. If you want to know why the galaxy is so fucked up the blame should lay primarily on the Necrons and secondarily on the Eldar. The Necrons ruined everything forever by causing the War in Heaven, and the Eldar created the modern shithole era by creating Slaanesh. Everything else other species have done pales in comparison. If it weren't for the eye of terror then chaos wouldn't even be that much of a problem since it would require rare and powerful psykers to have influence in realspace.
