Blaming Necrons for the Hell like state of the Galaxy right now is absolutely retarded. They weren't a psychic race. Blame should fall upon Old Ones and Eldar who made the Warp a Hellscape and bleed into reality. Necrons tried to stitch it up but Old Ones and Eldar were pulling more and more and more power from the warp which made stitching it up impossible.

Only thing wrong Necrons did was start the war in the first place but then they left the galaxy after they've won to let it recover for 60 million years and Eldar ruined it further for fucking 60 million years.

Blame the elves. Always blame the fucking elves.

Humans are sort of a Mary Sue race, yes. The average human might be inferior to the average Eldar or Necron, but humans are capable of matching anyone and exceeding them. The Eldar are a psyker race, but the Emperor was the grandaddy of all psykers. Human scientists like Cawl and Bile can match Necron or Eldar genius tit for tat. I like seeing humans portrayed from other points of view because then you can get a sense of how scary they really are despite the Imperium's decay. In the Twice Dead King they are presented like Orks from The War of the Beast-there are endless numbers of them and they aren't stupid even if their technology is worse, and there is nothing you can really do to get rid of them.

Orks are too stupid and divided to be a threat, Necrons are too old and senile to be a threat, Tau are too wimpy and small to be a threat, Eldar are too feminine and cowardly to be a threat, Tyranids have yet to take a single major Imperium world, and the only parts of Chaos that are remotely threatening are the ones that are just future primarch redemption bait.

No I think that's more or less the message from lore for a long time. It fits with the logic of the setting too, he has been worshipped by quadrillions of people for thousands of years and his baseline was the single most powerful psyker who ever lived. He beat up a ctan shard with a spear in the middle ages. The grimdark element of this is that he's quite insane at this point and purged a lot of his positive emotions in the form of the Star Child so he could fight Horus without them

The Imperium permanently kills necrons, orks, and eldar all the time. Those factions also have plot armor in the sense that they cannot be allowed to fall because they're wargame factions with models.

Tyranids are a wild card because it's impossible to know how many they really are. It isn't clear if a destroyed hive fleet is actually a huge loss or not and probably will never be answered for the same reason.

Cawl doesn't doesn't even know 10% of how necron tech works and is amazed constantly.
The Cryptek is a highly restrained and limited prisoner. He can maybe figure out basic things but not their actual advanced tech. If he could humanity would advance by leaps and bounds and not put scrap together like Orks (I'm looking at you new White Scar bike made from an outrider).
As for Bile, being invited out of curiosity by a coven means nothing and we don't even have any new inventions by Bile in the 40k universe since he returned. Best he did are some abhumans weaker than marines.

He was more powerful than any eldar psyker too anon. It's true that collectively old eldar psykers could have defeated him, but he was known to Eldar farseers like Eldrad. It also is not true at all that all of his power is spent powering the astronomicon. He could do that when he was a human perpetual psyker.

He's spending a lot of power holding back chaos from the breach in the webway project created by Magnus, basically holding off all 4 chaos gods at the same time. There was a lore example of how an Eldar Harlequin being on Terra and flipping the fuck out when she saw what the emperor is

>The hall on the far side of the portal was of lifeless stone, part-panelled in wood killed a thousand light years away and brought in slow-drying agony across the stars. This world was as dead as its ruler. The stink of humanity lay thick upon it, the statues near the ceiling coated in dust, the shed skin cells of people five hundred cycles gone. The psychic effect was a hideous weight, thousands of years of human suffering pressing in on Lhaerial’s sensitive mind, and that was the least of it. Crushing the sensation of the dead of the Earth was the titanic presence of the Corpse Emperor.

>Such power made Lhaerial’s mind reel, and for a moment her contempt for the creatures of Terra wavered. The mind of the Emperor was a mountain in the surging madness of the Othersea, blinding in its brilliance. The Great Powers circled this place like razorshark waiting out the death throes of a void-whale. That terrible presence held them back, and all His little servants were ignorant of it! Unease gripped her, that she would be noticed by the Dark Gods or their defier, and the fragile flame of her being snuffed out.

Only reason why Warp is such a hellscape is because of the Emperor's and Horus' final battle on the Vengeful Spirit which shattered time and space, which then let the anguish and suffering from the Siege of Terra to be poured into then placid Warp at the begining of time before the War in Heaven before Old Ones even existed.

Souls can dissolve, they can split and they can be involved in a lot of shit.
Eldar reincarnated at will, lacking a will to continue, they would accept death and move on, not to mention you cannot possibly consider all the eldar currently alive as indicative of all the eldar that ever lived because of slaanesh both changing how they behave and express, and devouring the vast majority of their race.

If you make wild claims and ignore the perfectly viable possibilities that go against that, you're not arguing in good faith, you're just closing your eyes and repeating your own fanfiction as if doing that would make it correct.

Hivefleet Leviathan broke out of the Octarius sector after managing to beat the orks and is now starting to attack the surrounding systems while there is another tendril coming from the galactic West which started the 4th tyrannic war.
Imperium is losing planets every year just due to the fact that the Great Rift is constantly expanding and swallowing up more and more planets into it. The dark half of the Imperium has basically been reduced back to the Age of Strife because they can't Warp travel and trying to Warp jump without the astronomican as a beacon is just a dandy way of committing suicide.
And thanks to the Rift, chaos and chaos cults are more rampant than ever.
Also Necrons are building this funny thing called the Pariah Nexus which is a giant null-field, which has hazardeus effects on life expectancy.

So how did humanity spread across the galaxy thousands of years before the Astronomican? The Astronomican is merely a fixed point that helps with accurate navigation. There are many alternative ways, even withing the Imperium, of traveling space, they all just have drawbacks over the Astronomican.

Not all current eldar would be a reincarnation of a past eldar, not all past eldar would have been reincarnations of eldar that were around in the war in heaven.
Eldar also selectively erase and alter their memories at will and have mystical reasons to alter them to be mythologically vague, or just preferring artistry and poetry to absolute accuracy, their historians, the clowns, retell stories with overt and purposeful flairs, it's not a matter of them not knowing how the real events played out, they've got a god that lived trough those events on their side and a magical library that automatically records every piece of information about the universe and its history. They choose to tell legends instead of facts.

Besides, when it comes to the shit the old ones do, it's not the first time where it's made so that memories are erased or kept inaccessible for very practical reasons, shit like cognito hazards are things you want to protect yourself from, and sometimes it is required for some informations to not be available in order for some convoluted plan to play out like you have foreseen it to go.

In short, virtually none of the Imperium's military forces actually work together and campaign masters have to politically negotiate with everything from nobility to military and the Mechanicus to scrounge up their forces and are often severely hampered by corrupt bureaucracy, petty rivalries between the people that own these forces, generational grudges and the like on top of actual logistical and pragmatic considerations, with most Imperial commanders often getting far less or far more than they actually wanted and often with entire types of units either missing or replaced with a substitute. In short, it's a shitshow.

>and souls are what give you psychic power

So with the Eldar at least this isn't strictly true in the sense that they're more than capable of suppressing and expanding their psychic potential - which is a foundation of the Craftworlds. Unlike Humans they aren't born with a spiritual-genetic predisposition to a certain level of psychic sensitivity but in fact choose to become fully psychic or, over time, to lose their psychic powers. The exact mechanics of what happens to Eldar souls inbetween lives is unknown but it is known that nobody has reincarnated in around ten thousand years and the big players of the Eldar don't actually seem to be that old.

Eldrad definitely isn't on the level of the Emperor was before he became a pseudo-God, but the biggest difference is the Emperor has walked a path of becoming humongously stronger by becoming a psychic focus for his race, whereas Eldar invested that kind of power into their Gods.

For Xenos that are absurdly powerful to the point where it breaks the setting see the Cacodominus. How the Black Templars could even get close to it, I have no idea, but with the Grey Knights being primed to fight whatever the fuck the Dark King is with its multiversal scaling I don't think we can even begin to make sense of how this is all supposed to work.

the fact eldar souls reincarnate doesn't mean that the eldar currently alive represent the totality or souls the eldar ever had, they could have had more powerful beings in the past, and most likely did, since they were engineered as a psychic weapon for the war in heaven to begin with and that mastery of the warp was enough for them to create a multitude of gods.

If you do not understand this, then I have to ask you if you are even mature enough ti understand what possibilities even mean.

Sure, there's a theoretical limit, but it's significantly more flexible than what we've seen from the Human angle and we're unsure what the upper limit is beyond the current situation being terrible for them. Given how vague and fortune cookie zen Eldar lore tends to be about the nature of psychics it also might very well be a more emotional or mystical thing that defines their current limitation rather than something genetic. Point being Eldar don't just become better at wielding their psychic ability, but can actually become more psychic whereas Humans tend to be stuck roughly where they were but learn to use it better.

Their schtick is that they're a relatively tiny faction. A fleet(not even the main one) of Death Guard decimated their Navy. It's the point I was making, Eldar don't keep consistent psychic powers across their lifetimes so we don't even know if they have full access to their psychic powers over different incarnations. It's not proof that any Eldar is as strong as the Emperor, if that's what we're still discussing, but there's enough indications that before Slaanesh the Eldar were significantly more psychically potent and had much better access to psychic infrastructure to boost that further. OK so I've wanted to get into (playing) Warhammer for a long time and I've settled on Eldar as my first army. I've been told they aren't a great starting army because they're trickier to play than other armies, but I'm set. I like space elfs. I bought the Combat Patrol and a bunch of second hand models, I've got about 1,000 points so far. Mostly built but still need a bit of priming and then actually painting. (won't be a problem, I like painting and I went heavy on Aspect Warriors both to continue the theme of the Combat Patrol and so I won't get bored painting 30 Guardians or whatever)

I also really like Harlequins. And when I heard that they were getting a Combat Patrol I was like, great, after I have some experience with my Aspect-heavy Eldar army I'll be able to start integrating some clown elfs into my army.

But then I saw that it's a FOMO box. And it's giving me FOMO. I preordered one box at my LGS, mostly just to have it for the future. But now I'm thinking that if I get a second box, that'll be it, I'll have 2,000 points of Eldar. And that'll probably be the cheapest way to get there too.

How bad of an idea is it for my first 2,000 point 40k army, the thing I use to play my first tabletop war games ever, to be half Craftworld and half Harlequins?

Entirely true, I'm not here to say the Tau could beat the Imperium. But in an Imperial Guard vs Tau scenario, the Guard take horrendously more casualties than the Tau in most cases because Tau soldiery are overall better via superior technology, strategy and training, though their training is more focused on the other two aspects than martial ability - separate a Tau from their unit and guns and they'd lose hard to a Cadian, but put a Cadian squad and Fire Warrior squad across range from each other than the Guardsmen are in a bad situation.

According to Imperial sources, the Damocles Crusade was a failure. In the aftermath, the T'au suffered zero territorial losses. The entire timbra subsector became an entrenched part of the T'au Empire.

>Taros
A W fopr the T'au
Part of the third sphere expansion.

>the 4th sphere expansion
Imperium wasn't involved in the disaster. The surviving T'au from that fleet established a foothold in Imperial space.

>Agrellan Campaign
Described in Imperial sources as a series of disastrous losses that ended in a desperate stopgap measure.

The T'au once again suffered no territorial losses. They kept all they took from the Imperium, even Agrellan itself wasn't wholly destroyed and was resettled.

In the past, the Agrellan was virus bombed by the Imperium and then resettled because it was too important to abandon, since it was a nexus system of Warp routes that led to resource-rich systems that the Imperium could not afford to lose.
The second extermintus against Agrellan was launched before the Imperium didn't want those systems to be lost to the T'au.

most of them get some stuff on release but only admech, genestealers, and now votann got a "second wave" while others were pretty much forgotten. the former two had a real slow down in stuff for them

i think GW understands new factions will just sell well on release and build excitement for the lore but also doesn't feel they're worth enough to follow on that hype
a new faction sells more than actually giving new stuff to an old faction. even if both are seldom popular
