Depends on the character concept but most of my characters tend to be average or attractive. One of my favorite characters was a necromancer that suffered burns all over her body and wore a porcelain mask to cover her face. One day I will remake her now that I know how to properly use the insanity mechanics.

My AD&D2e female tiefling (started as a male dwarf, Reincarnated randomly into a tiefling since the cleric couldn't cast Raise Dead but had a Reincarnate scroll), ended up with a CHA of 22. Rolled a 17, plus a result on the Tiefling random abilities table that gave +1d6 CHA.

So a literally supernaturally charismatic extraplanar female. With cat-slit eyes, pointed ears, wings, and tail. OBVIOUSLY she's hot as fuck, and I will never apologize for that, as it resulted from gameplay.

Usually dead average, or at the very least, average enough that whether or not they are ugly or attractive is entirely dependent on the person seeing them.
To be honest, a lot of the time I don't even get art of my characters, I just describe them as "oh yeah he's a lanky dude with brown hair in his mid 30s" and that's it.

No preference, but average is boring. And it doesn't just apply to Dream Pod 9's Appearance stat. Had a blast playing a PF 1st edition 3 Intelligence sorcerer. Had a blast playing a wizard's that's opposed.

As long as I've got a weakness that does show up from time-to-time, be it a stat, a flaw like Shadowrun's Codes of Honor (God I loved that one) and remain mechanically viable / can contribute meaningfully, I'm golden.

Pretty awkwardly for a good while. Luckily there was some armor with the "fit the wearer" quirk on it. We had some fun with it for a bit; the other girls in the party "adopted" her pretty quick and taught her the ropes. It's been about 3 years in game since it happened, and she's kind of made her peace with it. Note also we agreed as a group not to be all weird with it and not make it a huge game focus, since it wouldn't be fair to the other 6 people at the table to monopolize the RP time.

My DM is ok with sharing it, so here. Hopefully it's stays readable. I'll also throw in the Tiefling appearance table that he uses in the next post. Also I was wrong. It was a reincarnation side effect that gave the CHA bonus, not a tiefling ability. Still, though.

Responding. Last couple days sucked. I have judged your DM, and found him incredibly based. This is great, and the other table is good too. Tieflings should be slightly fetishy, given their inherited nature, so the addition of sex stuff on there is fine. The smartest part is the part where to you can replace a result with a classic "demonic" trait like horns, fangs, or goat legs. The original table from Planescape should have done that. Give your DM my compliments.

It's more about the character concept than anything else. Some concepts work better with attractive characters, some with unattractive characters, and some work best with thoroughly average looking characters.

I never really focus much on my character appearance, I tend to describe them looking like your typical average joe look

The time I made a ugly character was when I made the most evil cunt of a character who whole backstory that he was abused ever since the day his mother shat him out on some dirt path outside his home village, abusive childhood by family and other children, ran away, taking in by brigands (who would of fucked him if he wasn't so fucking ugly) at a young age and decided he wanted to abuse the world back for all the pain it brought to him as he got older

>Naturally born super ugly, his nose chopped off, heavily balding and just grim to even look at with scars over his face from past fights

Played him in a session with some other players some years ago, we were part of a prophecy of being the chosen ones to defeat some evil, it was some lazy ass excuse from the DM on why our characters met up, so it was funny when everyone else character was lawful or chaotic good and here me and my evil cunt former brigand character turned "adventurer" who somehow part of some heroic prophecy and I told the DM to let me play him because 'oh it his redemption, make up for all his past sins' and he thankfully allow me to play him

All the while openly brags about the times he pillaged farmsteads and strangled children for laughs to the other characters when ask what he did for a living, in other words I was roleplaying as a murderhobo and they weren't really thrilled about it, so naturally they spent more time trying to kill my character or get him arrested when we weren't proceeding with the quest

It was fun at first, mainly due to the DM being pretty new being a DM who should of known better, while he was a nice and chill guy to talk with, we have similar hobbies with fishing and hiking, so he probably somewhere in /Out/ but he was a bit of a push over

Other players, not so much, they were the type of players that watch shows like critical role and what not and wanted to have something similar to that which while I have nothing wrong against it, it just sometimes annoying when people try to act like them

here you got this fucking psycho who you probably find in GOT (the novels not the show) threating some villager of slamming her new born child head in against the wall if she didn't tell them where her husband, who was secretly a necromancer ran off to or chopping off dead foes fingers and ears off to wear around his neck to brag about his kills when camping

and just generally being this annoyance that kept poking holes in their backgrounds, mocking their sob stories and more importantly their actions, mainly of calling them out when they do something deemed as illegal or evil, like robbing people homes or just murdering a old geezer just because he was racist to elves and told the elf mage player he should fuck off back to the woods and hump animals or whatever retarded elves do out in the woods and the elf mage killed him with a fireball, when called out he just shrug it off in character 'oh he racist, so yeah I did it' and the other players back him up saying I had no right to call him out due to my character past actions

After a while during a break, the DM took me around back and just ask me to tone it down a bit and I did because I liked the guy as long I'm allow to still mock the other characters, we came to a agreement, the rest of the game went pretty well without any issue after that

Usually if I play an 'ugly' character, it's someone whose life circumstances have changed them. Unseemly scars, a rough life, lack of sleep, or just age.

I generally like to make characters that are conventionally attractive. But I also like making characters who at one point were, yet their looks fell off due to tragedy, bad decisions, or the consequences of an adventuring life.

Why do tonsures make people look so ugly?
Anonymous No.96802850 [Report] >>96802868

Because it simulates balding, and going bald is a biological indicator that a man has aged beyond the point of usefulness and should be disposed off. The disgust we feel when seeing baldness is there to help us dispose of the old and useless male. And since a tonsure is just being bald with extra steps, it's only logical to be disgusted by it and find it ugly.

Yes, but artists are invariably degenerate coomer leftists, so art can't be taken critically as indicative of people's desires. Artists care about hedonism and making money more than any artistic statements or consumer demand. That's why I can only hope AI replaces human art completely. It's not that you people didnt exist before but now you re out in the open
It is also very sad to see someone so filled with hate for people that simply arent like him. Living with this level of insecurity must be like hell. I sincerely pity the conservative soul.
Anyway, your very precious AI will not replace artists in the way you imagine. At best it will dominate the corporate world making soulless corpo slop even more soulless. And that is if people wont fight back about it which they seem to do. Either way art wont die because a machine can imitate it to a mediocre degree. At worst, it will just be more rare and a clear divide will be created between AI and man made products, with man made products being considered much more expensive and obviously superior, the exact same way craft that was replaces by machinery operates, just like shoemaking, clothing, etc

Objectively correct answer. A woman's only value is in her appearance, so playing an ugly woman is pointless. A man's value has nothing to do with their appearance, so it doesn't matter and you can play any appearance and it has no bearing on the character.

That's why I go out of my way to use magical, instead of natural, healing, in any game that allows it. Look, adventurers are mostly physically fit people, physically fit people are almost always attractive, and attractive people are vain and want to maintain their looks. Therefore, adventurers with magical healing capabilities would absolutely use magic that includes stuff like scar removal.

I know this is 4chins and we hate pretty people here, but more adventurers in D&D should look like picrel, over some grimdark scarred monstrosity of a human.
