Tons where I'm at. It's not the most popular format, but considering the game has literally two formats (OG and Genesys) the breath of fresh air is getting more than enough excitement around it.

Konami is regularly updating the format by culling any OTKs that pop up too. They show a lot of commitment to making sure it's good. Not that it isn't still a combo format, but YGO is still THE combo card game so that is what it is. It cuts out all the worst parts of the game and punishes you for playing any degenerate pieces that survived, at least.

It's handled with a point system.
Cards cost points. Every deck gets 100 points. The most degenerate cards get slapped with 100 point costs to de facto ban them. The big titans of Synchro/XYZ usually get hit with 81 point costs so you can technically run them, but you're sacrificing hand traps (~5-15 points per) or pot of greeds (30 points) for example if you want to.
And even then, most of the best archetypes get their core pieces cut. The main engines of Atlanteans, for example, got slapped with a point cost of 40 each.

You are left with some of the cancer, but that's just how the game is.

Honestly? Yes. The point totals do a great job of exactly this. Since the core pieces for an archetype often soak up your points, you can't really get away with best-of overtuned slop piles. Dedicated synergies with 0-point support pieces matter a lot more.

I see no reason to keep playing. Of all the sets next year lorwyn is the only one I'm interested in but I'm not going to cry if I skip it. Me continuing playing means skipping every UB set, but even then to play competently I have to play against UB cards, which means looking at diarrhea and knowing what it does. I don't give a fuck what any spider man and avatar cards do and I'm not going to read then. So I'm out. I was a very active standard player but the moment they released the 2025 schedule with all the UB it felt like well, I guess I'm not going to be playing anymore.

For me to NOT quit, the following would need to happen:
1. All future UB sets removed from standard
2. Spider man and final fantasy removed from standard
That's it. But that will not happen, so I'm done. It was really, really fun while it lasted, I had a great time from when I picked it back up with OTJ until edge of eternites. I like the goofy in-universe sets, honestly I thought they were creative and fun. But that's it for me. Will continue monitoring the crash from the sidelines. Good luck everybody.

Does anybody around here play auction draft? Apparently, back in 2020 some scientists won a Nobel Prize for designing a new type of auction called "simultaneous multiple-round auction", and IMO it seems extremely applicable to MTG.
In an SMR auction: A bunch of items are put up simultaneously. Each bidder is required to submit a bid on each item. Then the bids are revealed. For each item, a losing bidder can either raise his bid or withdraw from the bidding on that specific item. This continues for multiple rounds. Once all losing bidders have withdrawn from the bidding on all items, the auction ends, with the highest bidder on each item getting that item.
SMR auctions are applied to government sales of wireless frequencies in the telecoms field, which often are worth more together than separately due to synergies. Obviously, similar concerns apply to MTG. With this auction type, you can bid for both parts of a combo simultaneously, rather than bidding on one part and hoping that the other part will be available later.
It's easy to imagine an "SMR Auction Draft" format that consists of three separate auctions, one for each play booster.
