I still say one of the lost primarchs could work as a girl. They supposedly got rejected for unacceptable mutations, maybe she was made with two identical copies of the Emperor's X chromosome and had crazy psychic powers but also weird recessive gene disorders and was highly unstable. But I guess that's kinda similar to Magnus. Maybe they could be Russian themed and focused on Librarians and Dreadnoughts, evoking Baba Yaga and her walking house. As they use their powers more and more their bodies break down so they need to be converted into psychic dreads.

If female marines and primarchs were always a thing, which primarchs and marine characters would you expect to be written as women instead?

Once you have female space marines they will have to be competent to avoid criticism of misogyny, and the easiest way to demonstrate this is for them to be better than the male ones, so all the old SM characters will be emasculated and all new ones will be submissive, and this will erode the pre-pubescent (thus asexual) male (boy) power fantasy of space marines, which will dispel the enjoyment the immature 20-40 year old males get by collecting marines, which is the majority of 40k sales, which is the majority of GW sales.

So it will collapse the foundation of the game.
Drones will say this is impossible, but they'll be left like Disney saying they can't figure out how to make Star Wars appealing to boys anymore.

I think GW could make it work if they specifically make them be part of Fabius Bile's New Men project. Make it Creations of Bile multibuild kit with few female head and torso options. Make them somewhere between cultist and legionary with the most promising one being upgraded into almost proper space marines by Bile. GW could even use their "half-astartes" designation from HH for them.

I feel like the absence of female space marines helps underline the grimdark aspect of the setting. Not only is the process of becoming a space marine incredibly dangerous, with risks ranging from highly deadly 'training' to implant rejection to a Mechanicus just doing your implants wrong, half the population don't even have the chance to take these risks for the sake of humanity
