5 Favorite Beasts, Monsters and Mobs
The only rule is you have to be specific about what you like. You can't just say "I like Dragons." You have to say what kinda of or franchises Dragon you like.
For me it's
>Myrddraal and Trollocs from Wheel Of Time
Trollocs are like Tolkien Orcs but actually big and scary while Fades are Nazghul but more common and kill able. They are scary but not so strong it becomes impossible to defeat them
>Goblins From Spiderwick
These are the Goblins I grew up with, the frog monsters who are dumb as a rock and eat anything and everything they see. I fucking love them, I hate the green little big noses rapists that most goblins are made to be.
>Hungry Horse Kings From Re:Zero
Headless Centaurs with a giant mouth on their stomach which screams like a babies cry. They also can manipulate fire and regenerate? Absolute peak horror.
>Dragons from Tolkien's verse
Smart, sly, scheming and powerful. Mixed with their history with Morgoth and Glaurung they're the blue print of modern fantasy Dragons.
>Giant Animals King Kong
Okay this is kinda cheating but I love when normal sized Animals are just made Giant. I think One Piece does this well but so do other series. I a tiger that's the size of a house? Or a rabbit who skips causes earth quakes? Peak fun.

>Dragons, scaly, slimy, evil, slightly deformed, intelligent, maybe even sickly
Not sure if any media gets close to it, maybe this pic.
>Vampires, predatory, rotten, inhuman in mind, malicious, degenerate
Again, I don't really know many that do this properly.
>Goblins, short, varied in appearance and theme, idiotic, clownish, spiteful
Maybe the Labyrinth with a dash of Spiderwick?
>Zombies, ravenous, frantic, near-mindless, desperate, determined
Maybe 28 Days Later?
>Wizards, eccentric, absent-minded, unconventional, moments of wisdom, optimistic
Not really many close examples I can think of, but more like the Cheshire Cat.

>skeletons
a classic and endless alterations, warrior, archer, mage, burning, giant, and much more.
>krakens
beeg octopus grabbing you from below the dark waters? every single player is getting thallasophobia
>giant animals
OP has good taste
>mimics
just like skeletons, classic and loads of variations
>dragons
so long as its big as fuck and can fly, anything more than is mostly fine, but anything less is not a dragon

>Vampires from Twilight
>Fairies from Fairly Odd Parents
>Giants from Monsters vs Aliens
>Elves from Harry Potter

I like
>Brutal, monstrous, industrious, logistically capable and disciplined fascists
Like 5e Hobgoblins, Tolkien and Warcraft (2012; Garrosh's) Orcs, GW Charr.
>Evil dwarves, in brass and crimson
Honourable mention, for being everything but monstrous.

Labyrinth Goblins are cool, they look unique and have a unique attitude. I just personally HATE the little green rapist with the big nose. They're done to death and so far removed from what Goblins actually are in folk lore.
>>96783918
>Elves from Harry Potter
I too love House Elves, they're cute. I also like Brownies and Bogart's (From the Ward stone Chronicles) Something about cute little house hold slaves tickles my fancy.

>actually are in folk lore
This is what separates connoisseurs from the DnDrones. The moment you see people do shit like this, you know you're dealing with a pleb that has no knowledge of myth or folklore:
>gnomes are halfling engineers
>goblins are big-nosed rapists
>orcs are noble savages
>elves are woodland archers
>trolls are gangly regenerators
>hobgoblins are bigger goblins
>kobolds are dogs or reptiles
>dragons are colour divided
>gods are portfolio Pokemon

To me Kobolds are bipedal rats, Hob Goblins are bigger smarter and more cunning Goblins who can be bargained with but still a little wild. Elves are child sized and big eyed powerful magic users. Almost Yodaish but more human.
Orcs are hairless apes who rape and pillage, Trolls slow moving subterranean bruises. Ogres are giant beast men who speak in riddles and feign nobility but aren't actually all that smart.
I think its okay to deviate from traditional myth I just hate when DnD and Tolkien becomes the default. I had some faggot on here tell me I'm a poser gor my elves not being Tolkiens.
And Gnomes are either little trouble makers or masterful stone masons.

Orcs, trolls and goblins from Rankin and Bass hobbit/RoTK movies. They just look so cool.
Giant spiders from Rankin and Bass hobbit. They scared the shit out of me as a kid.

>Goblins From classic TTRPGs/Goblin Slayer
I am talking about classic shortstack evil fucks that raided and rape any chance they get.
>Vampires from Masquerade
I like the idea of vampires hiding and controlling their own people due to their rules and knowing if they out themselves everyone will hunt them down and wipe them out like in Shiki.
>Zombies, Wights, Liches and other undead.
Who doesn't love wiping hoards of undead in their games.
>Bandits, and Raiders
Other Human bandits or orc and other races. The classic raiders and bandits attacking villages and towns are always fun to stop and clear out.
>Mad Wizards, Witch Covens, or Evil Warlocks
The classic evil caster often kidnapping kids, needing souls or just letting their magical creatures have at the humans that live near them so people needing to clear out a old castle or tower filled with traps, monsters and evil magic is the classic basic adventure.

I quite like trollocs, though I'm just as fond of beastmen from WHF. I like the vibe of a race that is evil but doomed and knows it, and their freakish varieties are simply more fun than 'person, but ugly and short' as with Tolkien orcs.

These guys so weird. Like 50% mouth by volume. Bipedal, horned, singing bulldogs.

Chorfs get pretty monstrous as they mutate.

>Hags
Classic folklore witches like Baba Yaga who are ugly, powerful, fun and can be "helpful" for a price
>Undead in a bog
Inspired my lotr movies, bog mummies bronze aged soldiers and such. I just love bogs and mires
>Gnomes
Mix of newer red hatted creatures and classic Finnish folklore. Can be helpful and jolly, unpredictable and if you piss them off your cattle, wife, children and you will be dead
>basilisks
I like them as large chicken dinosaurs with snake tails, similar to classic depictions and also a bit like dungeon meshi.
>drowners, nixies, näcken
Ugly, greenish blue, like bogs and dark lakes. Easy to kill if you know how and see them, deadly if not prepared.
I like my stuff as mud core mixed with colourful fantasy

>mephits
Not the d&d kind, more like spren from stormlight archive. Just little elemental spirits that go about doing thir thing.
>elementals
Full fledged and quite powerful spirits, like the furies from codex alera.
>quetzalcoatl
Not the god, just regular feathered snakes. They're danger noodles but fluffy, what's not to love?
>sky whales
Sky whales.
>dementors
But only because myrddraal was already taken. I never read past book 4 of WOT, but like in HP I love how there's never really an explanation given for wtf these mf are.
>goblins, á la Tolkien
Orcs, essentially, as they originally were without any of the noble savage barbarian stuff. More of a chaotic military force that has to be herded like cats.

I realy like driders aesthetically but the lore is realy dumb.
I also realy like Scorpiks from EverQuest, basically scorpion men but add „lizard“ before the men.
Their lore is that they got tricked into becoming this and now they don’t have hands anymore and they hate it.
Walter Moers monsters are also sorta disturbing in a cool way, Nurnen, vraahoks and Wolkenspinnen are all variations of the same template.
A spider like creature with tons of legs, they use the legs to trap you like a cage and then they have tentacles (that are always discribed like wet stinking ropes) that suck out your innards.
This guy has more specific terrors than lovecraft but it’s a realy evocative monster design that people just loathe because how inglorious and disgusting it is

>Jari/Pipsqueak
The wood and mountain goblins from Chrono Trigger that, unlike the orc-like beasts called Goblins, look like Emperor Pilaf. They're adorable yet malicious, and I like the lore of them along most of the mystics/fiends being slave monsters created in Zeal who either civilized themselves or went feral.
>Xenomorphs
They're the apotheosis of the scifi movie monster. Psychosexual aesthetics on a terrifying just humanoid enough monster. Fucking terrifying.
>Manaketes from Fire Emblem and Brood from Breath of Fire
I'm a fan of most kinds of dragons, basically if you can convince me its a dragon I'll probably like it.
The trope of our elves are dragons who locked away their power is just a really good one.
>Corporeal Undead
Zombies and skeletons are the ultimate cannon fodder enemy, applicable to almost any genre and usually without even a hint of moral quandary about their appropriateness to destroy.
>Any form of Ice-themed elemental or fairy spirit
Everything from snow fairies and yuki-onna to frozen shades and even wow's lich king. Give me an ice monster that isn't just a mammoth or yeti and I'm happy.

>Dragons
I like when dragons look like sharks, like the ones in yugioh (ironically the shark drake like doesn't look enough like sharks to me), and garchomp is just too awesome to pass
>Non-furry fur humanoids
Be them bestial like the Nitro in Toriko, your run-of-the-mill yeti/sasquatch/bigfoot, nadragh from Corum, or even wookies, as long as they're generically bulky, covered in fur, humanoid and not too specific about being a specific mammal but bipedal (like wereraces and beastmen)
>Flying whales
Zelda's, Breatg of Fire 4's, Dragon Quest's wherever, flying whales are awesome. Bonus points for unusual anatomy (like extra fins, horns and tusks, wings, snouts, extra eyes...) and adornations (tattoos/bodypaint, gold, chains...)
>Human-faced non-humanoids
I call anything like that a "manticore" in my setting, be it an actual manticore, something like an alkonost or off-kilter stuff like you can find in Shin Megami Tensei. Something about having a human face out of place is anti-anatomic and evil
>Non-tailed merfolk
fish humanoids with 2 legs, like Rikuo from Darkstalkers. I like a lot of merfolk art from MtG, especially Lorwyn and Ixalan ones.
>>96784864
>Evil dwarves
Based. Half-bestial dwarves are also cool.
>>96801082
>Xenomorphs
I love the xeno themed mobile suit in Gundam Crossbone, the EMS-07 Erebado
