Honestly, I did go through a hiatus after a shitty experience playing RPGs. So yeah, I'm the no-games kind of guy who likes RPG theory but doesn't actually put that into practice.
The kind of systems and themes I like to play do not coincide with those of the majority (even more so if you're playing in Spanish, which was the overwhelming majority of my games). I came up with my own ,very rules-lite, system and even though everybody who played understood and liked it, most people were hesitant to try something they didn't know. After all I am some random guy. Why trust me over a long-established franchise everybody is playing? I take full responsibility for that.
However, when I did play other, more popular systems, there was little to no attendance. But when, out of frustration, I posted a poorly written 5e lfg ad (with major spelling mistakes, lots of "xD" and " :3 " faces and implications of "pervert" furry characters) lots of people did apply. It wasn't a me-having-a-bad-reputation situation then. People were ok playing that crap. People found it more interesting.
While I do concede that I don't appeal to the majority and could work more on learning mainstream systems (which I'm trying to do), most of those players are shit. Freakshitters, marvel humor, uncreative, uncultured, flaky, underaged, anime profile pic, that guy who played shaggy on CoC and a feudal Japan game and got kicked out. Most players lay back and expect the master to teach them the system, work everything out for them, make sure they're comfortable and entertained, come up with ambience and plot hooks that integrate their far-fetched backstories, What do they offer in return? Well, nothing much.
Feel free to roast me if you will.
