I feel like the problem with xenos is that they’re not really good at anything that the Imperium isn’t better at. Necrons have robots but so does the Mechanicus and Iron Hands, Tau have battlesuits but the Imperium has Titans and Knights which are bigger and stronger, Orks have hordes of infantry but the Imperium has infinite infantry. The Eldar have psykers, but the Imperium have stronger psykers.

Only a complete moron who can't read would get that from the novel.

Roboute calls out the Silent King for being a posturing fool. For all his threats, he revealed himself to be not as strong as he tries to pretend to be. His puppet misspoke, revealing that the crusade elements with the Pariah Nexus endure and fight on despite all the odds.

Fleet Tetris and Primus suffered massive damage from the fleet battle, but the book ended with a strategic victory for the Imperium. A Pylon was destroyed, allowing Imperial reinforcements to swarm into the Nexus. These would be instrumental in the defeat of the Silent King in the "Crusade: Pariah Nexus" book.

So no. For the past two years, the Necrons have given us a poor showing that erased all the hype that they were given in 8th ED. The Silent King despite having every advantage, faltered before the Imperials and is now in the defensive.

Yeah but at least Chaos has the excuse in that you can’t permanently kill them, while all the xenos factions could be permanently wiped from the map the second the Imperium willed it. What could the Necrons meaningfully do against millions of space marines when they lost a world engine to only 1,000? What could the Tau possibly do to stop 10,000 Titans from doing a Rumbling over their entire empire? What could the Dark Eldar do to stop an endless wave of quadrillions of Imperial Guardsmen from literally stampeding them to death?

What’s stopping them? The Imperium is not short on resources, they send several hundred space marines and a Titan legion to minor, irrelevent periphery mining worlds engaged in minor border skirmishes with alien empires nobody’s heard of before. The Imperium’s response to even the most minor of problems is overwhelming force. If they wanted, they absolutely could assemble their vast legions of titans and just step on everyone on their path.

Reverse the meme image. The DAoT technology that the Admech used in the Crusade book proved to be a match for the Necron superweapons.

Note that the Imperials are fighting with a severe disadvantage within the Pariah Nexus due to the Stilling eroding their souls and limiting their comms and Warp travel. Yet the Imperials endure and are winning.

Necrons are the frauds. So I have to agree with anons above. If it wasn't for Chaos the Necrons would have been swept clean from the sector.

This is not the sign of a decaying empire. This is what a rising empire looks like. The Imperium has so many resources that Titans are considered disposable.

Anonymous No.96807858 [Report]
>>96807693
Not really.
Imotekh won by doing literally nothing. Imotekh was getting steadily more political support due to the Silent King's faltering war effort against the humans.
The Silent King marshalled his forces for a major attack against the humans and sanctioned the technomandrites to unleash their superweapons against the humans in a bid to end the war with the humans fast and win back political capital. While this was happening, Imotekh withdrew his forces and watched things transpire.
The usage of the Necrons' superweapons and the DAoT weapons the Admech unleashed in response empowered Vashtorr (who was manipulating both sides) enough to smash his way into the Pariah Nexus and corrupt a Pylon. The Silent King's offensive stalled and he was routed.
The use of the Technmandrites' superweapons proved to be a scandal among the Necrons nobility, causing some dynasties to switch sides to Imotekh, whom they considered to be an exemplar of Necron honour thanks to the propaganda campaign Imotekh masterminded.

As the Silent King was reeling from his defeat and considering his options, Imotekh remused his war with him.

So Imotekh allowed the Silent King to shoot himself in the foot.

I'm actually pretty sure this could work, the issue is that the emperor wouldn't protect Eldar souls. He is a human god for and by humans. As a psyker he personally disdained xenos, and the nascent god born from the worship of him has hatred for xenos as a central tenet of its faith.

Although for the sake of argument you could feed Eldar souls to him via the Golden Throne. Who knows what would happen, they're much more nutritious. Maybe if the Eldar truly became human in some way

The Emperor is not protecting human souls except special ones like Celestine, bro.
It's shown over and over across dozens of novels that human souls fill the Warp, being dissolved into nothingness or feeding the daemons.

The great weapon that the Black Legion dot in the early Dawn of Fire books is a spiritual cannon that weaponizes the outrage of Imperial souls in the Warp over the Emperor not saving them

I didn't say he was. But it isn't true that he couldn't absorb power/Eldar souls that were pledged to him. He absorbs tons of souls now

DESU given the stated mechanics of how the warp works it doesn't make sense that human souls aren't absorbed by the emperor. It just wouldn't be grimdark enough for god to gather the souls of all his faithful followers. Cegorach is far weaker than the emperor and even he can take the souls of Harlequins.

The way I would justify it if I were GW is that his psyche is too fractured to seek out human souls before they dissolve in the warp or something along those lines

The Emperor doesn't absorb souls randomly from the Warp.
He eats the thousand souls of weak psykers being fed to him daily by the machinery of the Golden Throne. This is done since his dying body can no longer be sustained by normal food. He needs the life force of psykers so that his body can continue to function.

I am aware of that, he is still absorbing their souls. He is not entirely a warp entity because he is tethered to his physical body in the materium. You can also say that prevents him from doing some things nominally less powerful warp entities can do if you want to justify things, but I still think it doesn't really make logical sense.

In any case, it isn't correct that Bucharis' Gift uses souls angry over not being saved. It's powered by being made from the bones of specific people on a shrineworld that was corrupted by chaos and powerful chaos artifacts.

It's not, because if the Emperor has no drawbacks then that puts the Imperium at an absurd advantage over literally everyone who isn't Chaos. GW literally killed Ynnead and the Ynnari to stop the Eldar from getting such an advantage, while the Hive Mind has been nerfed, Gork and Mork are left not being touched on, and the Tau Goddess is dubious at best. The problem with the Tau, fundamentally, is that they bring the worst kinds of fans into the game.

When you think of the Imperium, you think of giant walking cathedrals with holy weapons and living machine spirits anointed by sacred oils. You think of ancient sorcerers dipping into the magical powers of the collective psyche of humanity to bring forth reality-bending changes. You think of holy warrior demi-gods wreathed in gilded armor taking to the field with a divine brotherhood and warrior code to engage in a sacred and ritualistic slaughter.

The Imperium, along with every other faction, is mystical, they're sacred, they engage with the fantastical and religious elements of the setting.

And then you have the Tau, who look like they just wandered in from a military sci-fi setting, and think everything can be solved with bullets. It degrades the setting by not having them immediately be slaughtered to a man for their hubris.

While all the Xenos factions I've read about so far, are different varieties of Neutral Evil side plots? I haven't read anything specific about the Orks or Dwarfs or Elfs yet, but I'll read about each in depth eventually, but are there any factions in the game that aren't evil? Or is the whole point that war=bad and all factions are kill-or-be-killed contestants? I bought a bunch of different boxes from different teams to paint based on what I thought looked cool and would be fun to paint, not knowing anything about them, and figured I'd then decide what codex to get and army to build more of after I finished them all. But man, this game is fucked up. The core rule book really needs to come with an appendix or something just to explain and translate all the made up words.

What makes the Necrons or Tyranids more evil than the Imperium? The Nids are just a hungry animal and Necrons seem like they just wanted to sleep after making a terrible mistake, but we're woken up by a galactic industrial murder machine and are grouchy about it. The Druk are obviously cruel and malicious, but do they delete whole planets or commit genocide on anywhere close to the same scale as the Imperium is said to? I assume the other elves are evil because of the Slanneesh thing, but I haven't read into that yet. Considering that the Traitor/Loyalist thing is an ongoing human civil war and the Emperor would seem to get more kills in his name than any of the other Chaos gods do, I'd rank the Imperium as the most evil faction, but I'm just dipping my toes in still, and I suppose it's subjective. The survival and dominance of humanity is a natural good. You can disagree but at the end of the day you are a human so it is a natural desire to want humans to be on top and every other race to be exterminated so they can't be a threat.

Thus the Necrons and Tyranids are ontologically evil, because they oppose humanity, even if they would do the same things humans do.

It doesn't take the Imperium a century to do anything, if there was a century for the Damocles crusade to gather it was because it was on the bottom of a huge pile of administratum paperwork because it was so low priority, and you can tell that it is by the number of units that were assigned to it. Only a few titan legions and a mere 5 Space Marine companies is nothing, call me when the Imperium dedicates 50,000 space Marines to fighting the Tau.

It absolutely is the norm.

The Taros campaign was an extremely minor border skirmish over a mining world of only 12 million people that had no strategic value to the Imperium.

Despite this, the Imperium still gathered 20 Imperial Guard Regiments, 3 companies of Space Marines, and a Titan legion to reclaim it. All for a planet the Imperium never heard of and didn't care about.

>The Tau are a faction of common soldiers with nothing more than their rifles and grit holding the line against mutant abominations, accursed sorcerers, and unholy mechanical monsters, relying on the hope that with enough ammunition and determination you can kill god
>The Necrons are a race seeking salvation from their soulless existence, existing in the glory of their empire that is hollow and empty of substance despite its strength, trying to save what they can with the wonders of the old world so that they can one day go back to a life worth living
>The Imperium is an empire of terrifying godlike psykers, living demigods made flesh, nightmarish mechanized monstrosities, and fanatical cyborg abominations, all of whom want nothing more than to see every other living creature annihilated down to the last infant even if their empire gains nothing from it but satisfaction

There are shadows under the emperor that are implied to be the chaos gods and the Lion realizes they would destroy him if he tries to swim across.

That's...not how the Imperial Faith works.

You don't go to hell when you die, you just dissipate into the warp, your soul basically fragments and ceases to exist entirely in the span of a moment. It's not hell it's just...oblivion. Unless you were worshipping the Chaos gods, in which case it actually is hell.

But either way absolutely none of this was from the Emperor himself who wanted to get rid of all that faith shit. Likewise whose to say the humans worshipping the Greater Good Goddess don't believe in a heaven?

The Imperium can jump across the galaxy almost instantly because of navigators and the astronomicon. It's one of the imperium's true "tech" advantages (it is based on space magic but whatever). Only the webway is more efficient, and it's a crumbling ruin that can't be expanded

Some souls actually persist and get tortured by demons. Usually psykers but it can happen for other reason too. Anyway then the argument would just be the Greater Good entity doesn't have a doctrine of saving your soul from dissolution. The imperial cult does. QED

How would you know? The Tau didn't create the faith, their auxillaries did.

It's never been stated at all and it's a secular philosophy. That is why it horrified the Tau and made some of them genocidal. At best you could say it might develop but there's no reason to think it would

Not that anon, but they way I understood the afterlife in Warhammer is that if you have a weak soul it dissipates back into the Warp, but in 40K that might be the preferred outcome since Chaos is ascendent within the Warp so your soul persisting after death is a good way to be tortured all eternity by demons.

The best version of the Tau was always the naive xenos race encountering the weirder shit in 40k. Thinking they're in Star Trek when they are in a very different setting

>‘They value wealth,’ transmitted Farsight over the cadrenet. He heard Commander Bravestorm laugh with a cold contempt in response. ‘Wealth we can give them.’

>Farsight blink-slid his outgoing autotrans to the common version of Imperial Gothic, and called to mind the entreaties of the water caste.

‘>We can trade you piles of gemstones,’ his battlesuit boomed. ‘We can lavish you with oceans of gold. Join us for the Greater Good, and we will–’

>One of the pink Molochites stretched out its fingers, shuddered as if in fever, and sent a cloud of flame billowing out towards him. He boosted high, his thruster arrays lifting him out of danger. The creature sent out another sheet of fire. Farsight winced as it consumed a nearby squad of tau pathfinders.

>They used digital weapons, then, built into the rings upon their fingers. Miniaturised technology, and common enough amongst those who traded with the jokaero. But the bio-signs of the stricken pathfinders were registering as anomalous in the extreme.

>Farsight zoomed in. The tau’s flesh had been transformed. It was registering as glass, vitrified like stone under intense heat. Features twisted in confusion and anger, Farsight swept his fusion blaster low to cut the nearest Molochite into an explosion of hissing pink viscera. Two smaller creatures burst from its corpse, blue-skinned instead of pink. Each was still decorated with gaudy jewellery. These strange infants too hurled fire. Odd energies crackled from Farsight’s shield generator. He glanced at the shield’s custom sub-program in confusion and mounting panic, but it was still registering gold, at eighty-seven per cent integrity.

>These creatures defied analysis.

We know they have temples though. And that they worship the goddess herself. Why have a goddess and temples without a heaven?

>'Our enemy seems to be of Gue’la nature, but nothing like we have encountered before.’ The face of the famous T’au Commander looked haunted for a moment. ‘They call themselves the Death Guard, and we have learned that they do so rightfully.’

>They looked not unlike the Gue’ron’sha – the Space Marines – but they seemed bloated and repulsive. As O’yeldi’nar and Ui’vas’ka watched, they opened fire with their primitive bolters, gunning down a group of Gue’vesa. Every booming shot they fired somehow sounded… wet. Inexorably, the warriors advanced, crunching stones and corpses underneath their mutated feet.

>The hologram switched to show a revolting mound of putrid flesh with a grinning face and splintered horns. Immediately, the quality of the picture dropped noticeably. The creature swung a rusty blade and cut a Crisis Battlesuit in half. Another Shas’ui attacked with his burst cannons. The blubbering skin of the monstrous figure caved in, only to reveal a horde of smaller beasts, cackling and spilling forth to bury the T’au underneath their mass. The Shas’ui screamed, but his voice did not come from the speakers. It seemed to be resounding everywhere on the Glimmerstar’s bridge at once. The lights flickered and the hologram abruptly vanished.

>The scream seemed to linger for a moment.

>‘These Gue’la cannot be reasoned or bargained with.’ Shadowsun’s voice returned. ‘Even less so than the rest of their kin. In the same way the Gue’la of the Imperium adhere to their Emperor, these monstrous aliens have turned to the savage worship of a being they call Nurg’hel. It seems they fell victim to a host of maladies whilst simultaneously developing a strange resistance against them, becoming dangerous vectors which must be stopped at all costs.’

>‘Nurg’hel,’ whispered Ui’vas’ka. Again the bridge light of the Glimmerstar flickered ominously. O’yeldi’nar tried to ignore it.

Struggling really hard to find a way to make codex Drukhari work right now. There are tons of new options but all of them feel like they are missing a key unit to actually work well because of the resin squatting. Like Kabal Cartel definitely needs court of the archon for a fight first threat with full rerolls. Sky Splinter really needs beast packs to make space, for set-up, Covenite Coterie needs Grotesques and Urien for objective play and damage, Reaper's wager is really feeling the loss of AP, and Spectacle struggles without any good answers to overwatch or indirect on GW terrain. I honestly think the Army might be slightly weaker than it was in index and just feels like worse Eldar right now. Or maybe it's similar power level, but the skill floor got a lot higher with the new complexity added. I expect this Army is going to have extremely low play rates because they are really difficult to use effectively now.

Look for the Skaven half of Skaventide for like $100 on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist or something. It shares a lot of stuff with the upcoming Skaven battleforce box.
