The whole Unforgiving album is a decent soundtrack for a Hunter slowly losing it:

Within Temptation is pretty awful overall, though. Won't recommend outside of Unforgiving.

Here are some of the things that made me want to yell at somebody.
>If you want to feel like a badass Elder vampire, choose Casual
Why do I need to choose a mode even easier than Easy to feel like a badass Elder? In a game about an Elder vampire?
>No control over your first feed and first kill
This might be petty but one of the things I like about RPGs, especially in games based on TTRPG, is the choice. I don't care about the act of killing but I care that it isn't my choice.
>Fabian sounds good, Elder? Not so much.
As it reads.
>Reused assets
This is literally the start of the game. Why do I fucking see the same portrait like four times, same graffiti like 3 times? I expect reuse but why so much at the start?
>No clan disadvantages
I chose Ventrue and just fed on 5 different dudes without any problems. At least in OG Bloodlines you couln't feed on animals and poor people. I expect other clans also have no drawbacks of their own.
>Piss easy masquerade.
I killed several people with my bare punches, went to the next street and waited 2 minutes for it to clean up. Do I need to say anything?
>No Humanity.
I know this is 5th Edition and we are playing an Elder, but I feel like there should be something about me going all serial killer.

This is it for now. I will be here after work.

Why does anyone in the World of Darkness do what they do?
Anonymous No.96809719 [Report]
>>96806929
No, more like simultaneous damage to multiple organs. If you just did it one at a time, or slowly, they could compensate. Do enough damage all at once, and they'll all have fluidity problems that'll get them to start (lethally) competing with each other more than usual. They're all heads at a hydra, and each thinks that they're the most important head.

>>96808305
No, those are just teasers to get you to buy shit. The Storyteller's Handbook from Revised had rules for dealing with the rest of the WoD games but didn't endorse doing it, and in fact, completely ignored the existence of Demon.

mummy start out stronger than vampires but supposedly cap out at mithras level as the guy had a tie with horus during which horus is said to have been as strong as his kind can be. which is not really supported by the rules due to mithras somewhat suboptimal 1e statblock never got updated to keep up with his hype

going by rules mummies could in 1e change weather on a global scale if they somehow got a shit ton of quint and successes and in revised could destroy a city, but doing so was mentioned to be a power that comes from apep and using it will get you permanently unmade by the judges they can also unname you to super death, but only if they know your true name in rem but your name changes overtime + the older and more supernatural you are the harder your name is to get and use and the rules for getting that name and everything else previously mentioned are super vague
nice collection of alchemy and magic items through but nothing on demons in that regard

demons heavily depends on if you count earthbound or just fallen and if you allow the alternative systems from the players guide. Especially custom forms and crafting, if not then fallen are really low tier till they get some lore 5 powers where some of them just say "the only limit is your st" (although not all lores are made equal) but if you do then fallen can do near true magic nonsense but only if they make items beforehand because they can infuse powers they don't have into items (they just need the base lore power) they can have several powers in one item and if your st allows it you can combine powers

and earthbound with high end mastery can also increase the scale of their abilities till they can in theory raise cities

however, the IP is definitely underperforming. the only things that could be considered successful are niche products like ttrpg books, VNs and VR titles with any attempt at doing something more mainstream either getting a tepid reception or becoming an outright mockery. so they might decide it's too niche of an IP and they're not well equipped to serve.

i don't think dtf is hopeless, redemption is possible (although the details are up to your st) having a nice human life is possible and overcome your abyss trauma is also possible

meanwhile i would actually argue that owod mummy especially early editions is pretty bleak because you are a good guy who wants to better the world! you are also not a retard unlike certain werecreatures about it, but your eniter splat is so small that in all of human history you never really actually archived anything major (without the help of a multi splat alliance that is long gone) so all you can do is struggle while the world becomes bleaker and is moving towards it's end

>Lamplighters, along with BATTLETECH, and the Shadowrun Returns Trilogy, remain a part of Paradox’s portfolio. And also somewhat with Microsoft through the ownership of FASA—look, it’s complicated. The point is that those games aren’t coming with us. As much as we love those worlds and would love to work in them again, we can’t.
So apparently Microsoft stole the whole fucking IP and Paradox just snatched the videogames? Either way nothing of this is good. Big corposhits who own big IPs and never do anything with them. Again the only solution here would be making your own setting.

The books heavily emphasize that whatever a Mage would befriend a splat for, he'll usually find a better use of said splat creature as alchemical reagents or a raw source of magical energy. A Mage who doesn't come to this realization and does something as gay as actually valuing his crossplat buddy as a friend is inherently a dogshit Mage who will never become a true Archmage. Microsoft at least has the understanding of the games enough to let the tabletop people just do their thing, and make pretty good video games with the property.

CCP had no idea what to actually do with White Wolf, but they at least let the P&P studio do its thing while they flailed around trying to make a video game, and when they cut them loose as an internal element they gave them solid independence.

Paradox had no idea what to do with it beyond "make a game that nobody in the publisher or studios that they've ever worked with knows how to make." And even cutting off approvals of CofD books just means now the original creators are competing directly with a new IP instead of paying license royalties to them.

I can roll a Lasombra, why can't I join Sabbat? Yes, I know that around 2010 in-universe, they technically joined Camarilla, but Phyre has slept through that event and I don't think he gives much of a fuck.
In 1940, a Tremere neonate fell off the grid for almost a century and nobody in the Pyramid, her own superiors that she should've been blood bonded to included, cared to check what is going on with her and whether or not she defected to Sabbat. You know - Tremere, the strict, paranoid and secretive clan that doesn't tolerate outliers.

Not as a hard and fast rule but I like to make the drawbacks of low Humanity kick in at inconvenient times, such as a tense hostage situation or a heated exchange with a rival faction representative. I also award bonus XP for players that go the extra mile roleplaying the subtle, gradual shifts in personality their character experiences as their Humanity drops, even if their external demeanor doesn't change.

And I know I won't get any shit for saying that, but I'll expand it. All organized religion is fundamentally nephandic, but Asian religions are more actively nephandic due to their cavalier attitude on death. When murder or mass death is just "returning people to the wheel", corrupt douchebag shit has a lot less moral weight. And, as mentioned, the problem is present in all religion. When you get into thinking murder is just sending people to a better place and the destruction of the planet will get you handed a super-paradise to fuck up, falling into the game of being actively destructive is a lot easier. Because by gassing an entire village or clearcutting a forest, you're just advancing the divine plan to bring forth a new Eden. And you're getting rich doing it. Truly, as such, the rich are the chosen children of the divine.

I think the misconception here is that family and group dynamics with the tribes, packs, and kinfolks are a big part of the human aspect of wta but it doesn't necessarily mean they have le "strong nuclear family values of 1950s America". Just like all of these games try to focus on some aspect of humanity so that you aren't outright playing an alien, I think Werewolf focuses on that. Sort of reflects badly on the whole global initiative for immigration if you look at humans through the lens of animal husbandry and you realize that the only way to actually assimilate or tame an outsider is via directly raising them from birth and isolating them from their peers. The Lasombra never "controlled" the Catholic Church, that's Lasombra cope. Now they do have probably more influence in it than any other clan, certainly, but that's not the same as control. Also, back in the day when the Catholic Church was a major power you also had Ventrue, Toreador, and others that had influence within it, through a bishop or a cardinal or a monastic order, etc.

There isn't a Lasombra that can just waltz in and mindrape the Pope to do whatever he wants. But they do have several proxies and pawns within the upper echelons of the church. Influence, not control is the name of the game here. I imagine the Sombros and Leopoldites routinely play cold war esque spy games in and around the Vatican.

The ugly truth is that Bloodlines 2 has so many writing issues it would take one of those 3+ hour long autistic video essays to break them all down. The only reason it hasn't gotten more immediate flak is that many people have become tragically used to bad writing, and instead focus on janky animations or annoying gameplay decisions, which are immediately and visually apparent, and require little explanation. Why are mages so weirdly conditional for all their overwhelming power?

A vampire doesn’t need to prepare to just rip a person’s head off. A mage has to do a ritual to do that.

Sure the mage can rip apart people a lot better than a vampire, but they can’t do it casually the way a vampire can.

Seems like mages have to constantly be preparing their toolsets while the vampire or werewolf can just laze around.

A mage that didn’t foresee combat won’t be as combat ready as the vampire or the werewolf, who can rip and bite whenever.

I still think that the God-Machine has never been as cool as the chapter fiction on it in the og NWOD core. It's all been downhill from there
But I also think it's fine that Demon, the splat specifically about it, puts the God-Machine front and center.
What 2e nWoD/CofD shouldn't have done was push the G-M in the mortals corebook to the fore-front as if it was something standard in world that everyone had to deal with, like ghosts. That's dumb, because it gives the impression to a hypothetical completely new reader that all the shit and weirdness of the World of Darkness is ultimately because of the God-Machine. Fuck that.

I am a huge Awakening fag (and 1e defender over DaveB's "Passable mechanics update: the Awakening"), but if the Exarchs were put front and center in the mortal core and the Seers were portrayed in it (even as just a vague all-powerful conspiracy type) as the shadowy demiurges of the World of Darkness. I'd call that bullshit of the highest order. Same with the Gentry, or the Principle.

The Exarchs are worth less than shit in a Requiem chronicle. A CtL game doesn't give two shits about the Idigam or the Pure.
Why should anyone but Demon care about the G-M?

A fantasy of a mage or a wizard is someone fragile and not particularly dangerous, who is able to wield great power through arcane rituals and casting intricate spells. Just waving a hand and causing people to explode into gooey red confetti doesn't come across as a wizard casting a spell, but a superhero using a superpower. It ruins the mage fantasy.

Neither particularly appeals to me.

seriously? who thought this was a good idea?

atleast it proves that seattle's kindred are build differently... as in another level of shit given that one of their primogen loses to a kindred without disciplines while having like 40 cultists with her and sapping power from the same kindred

lol That's definitely what's going on here. I know the dudes I regularly play with might get 1/6 interested in the whole deal with the rest not being interested to actively repelled. I could GM a game like Mothership for them next week easy peasy, but something like Wraith would be trying to punch the wind.

Time to make some friends at the FLGS I guess.
