My answer to this is not so much just one detail, but the whole model. My favorite being the Techpriest Dominus as it's what I think of when I hear the word "Techpriest." It is visually distinct, and absolutely follows Valve's "silhouette" rule in design.

the only technique i figured out myself that i really liked was how to do cool glowing eyes

You'd be surprised how fast you can paint up a small group of guys over a couple months even just painting a half hour every few days. You'll find a full game of 40k takes about 2-3 hours on the low end but you could always schedule that when they're with their mum. You might as well buy second hand models unless you are very excited about building them(it is pretty fun, but it is another time sink if you just want to game and nothing else.)

They move a lot faster, a lot of the pain abilities are what would normally be strategems so you are getting essentially double bonuses. Melee weapons got improved nearly across the board. Pain tokens are now spent on activation rather than at start of turn so you aren't gambling on that ravager/scourges/whatever to crack open that rhino so the pain token you spent on your warriors might be completely wasted. You generate MORE pain tokens now in general, significantly so with realspace raiders. Raiders and venoms gained a lot more utility.

The people saying they got worse are just people who can't see the forest for trees and see only hurr durr how much damage can I do as the ONLY metric that matters in units and said players are shit at playing drukhari. If you have an IQ above marinefag the codex is vastly better.

With Admech it's hard to say where the user ends and the armour begins. With SoB, they didn't use to have any augments necessary for the suits to function, but then GW decided to give them plugs too, because of reasons. The Carapace isn't just for controlling the suit, but enables direct input back and forth. A marine in armour is unhindered by it, sensing the world as if there was no armour.

A race like the eldar or tau needing to walk up to within a few dozen meters of you to shoot you makes no sense. Every conflict with these races would just be lasers coming from space or hundreds of miles away and hitting you.

I get that 40k is a close combat setting where cool guys with axes and swords are the center of art, and you're supposed to just suspend your disbelief for the sake of rule of cool, and I do that, but sometimes you see something in particular that reminds you, like the eldar shining spears. The idea that a spacefaring magical race with super scifi weaponry and vehicles that can shoot you from millions of miles away would actually design a jousting unit in their military is so comical.
