idk, I just don't like how the -mancy suffix has been modernized and just means "magic" now instead of specifically divination

In Heroes of Might & Magic Olden Era, you can upgrade Necromancers to Chronomancers, who can resurrect ALL units, not just undead.

not sure how this is relevant, but ok

>using a mod
it's an official feature in the newest Heroes sequel, and you can already use it in the public demo.

You basically have to roll 5 relevant secondary skills and upgrade them to max, to unlock an ultimate skill. Necromancer can either temporarily resurrect dead enemy stacks as friendly wights, or upgrade necromancy to work on every creature.

>not sure how this is relevant,
OP pic is necromancy skill in Heroes III, so I fail to see how it is -not- relevant?

Same with -kinesis, -kinesis means movement, you can't use pyrokinesis to create fire, only control it, creation would be pyrogenesis but that doesn't include control.

There simply isn't a concise and accurate catch-all term.

Originally, they were diviners that summoned spirits of the dead to ask them about fate. Thus why "mancy" is in the name (comes from Greek "manteía" that means divination). But things changed when one fucker tried to reattach summoned spirit with dead body. This started a new trend of reanimating dead in necromantic circles, as everyone wanted to be immortal or just have some cheap labor force. And now here we are, at the point where this trend grew into bdsm necrophiliac armies that recruit people, by killing people, so bone daddy can impress other bone daddies with the size of his necromantic achievements.

How about -urgy as in Latin (orig. Greek) Thaumaturgia or Teurgia? It can mean "the works", as in miracle working.
We could form a noun Pyrourgy or rather Pyrurgia.
In Latin 'ignipotens' or 'ignifer' are suitable as adjectives, but as a noun it would need to be 'purgator' or such.

Necromancy is inherently broken.

That would work, actually, as long as you don't mix up greek and latin like a dumbass.

I always used -urgy for more divine, like you said miracle working. Also it only sounds good with select words, like theurgy.

What settings, after Garth Nix’s Abhorsen series and the Locked Tomb books, handle necromancy best and why in your opinion?

how do i play a necromancer without my party/dm pissing and shitting themselves because of minions? i totally understand that having 4/10 turns in combat be dedicated to one guy and his 3 summons (it gets so much worse) can be a drag but how would you circumvent this problem?

Instead of a horde, make a single, strong dude.
The best example I have is golem necro in Diablo 2.

is there a feasible way of doing this in pf1e? first thing that comes to mind is animate dead + desecrate but that requires finding some dude whos level 10 and killing him (at lvl 5, ouch)

In Pathfinder, the final part of becoming a lich involves finding your true love, then sacrificing him/her for your immortality (alternatively, a child who you love could also work). Could this be why it's so difficult for wizards to go magic skelly? A lot of these decrepit nerds couldn't seduce the local hambeast.

I wanted to become a necromancer but I live in bumfuck nowhere and only books that are relevent to the subject are anti-necromancy books at local temple (I know them by heart by now). I can reanimate some animals but everytime I try with human remains it fails.
I tried to find a master but I only found
>old man wanting to use my body for necromancy
>old man wanting to use my body for sex
>honeypot

Why do you have to be cartoonishly evil to become immortal in so many fantasy settings? I mean, seriously.
Anonymous No.96950327 [Report] >>96950714
>>96950276
Because fantasy settings typically have a confirmed and obvious afterlife everyone knows about, meaning the only people TRYING to become immortal are the ones trying to avoid divine judgement for some reason.

Personally, I think that immortality of consciousness if nothing else should be the primary scientific goal IRL. But what if the ultimate afterlife is more ambiguous?

>But what if the ultimate afterlife is more ambiguous?
Then you end up with settings like Eberron, with their "Good Undead" like the deathless.
