emotional resonance
How do I make my campaigns more emotionally resonant for my players?

If anyone here could answer how to make someone feel something, they wouldn't be sitting on 4chan shitposting.

You can't. If you want the closest shot at doing so: write a book.

this will take a while. start befriending them further, deeper, more intimately. you must be very careful so as to not let them know what you're doing. dig for deep pain, trauma from childhood, unfulfilled desires and needs - all without them knowing you're doing this. you must make them talk _around_ whatever it is, never having them actually say it. that is critical, lest they be onto you later. now, this requires you to become a sneaky fuck. i recommend reading occult literature about magic, and spending copious amounts of hours on discord mental health servers, studying cluster b patients specifically. this is all to learn the subtle magic of being a manipulative fuck. WE'RE GETTING TO THE EMOTIONAL RESONANCE JUST STICK WITH ME. okay, so now you know how to be a snake, and how to read minds without the victim knowing, good. next step is to infiltrate every part of their social life. friends, family, enemies, social media, online games, ANYTHING. you MUST observe your players from every angle, see their personalities from every perspective, you must learn their deep thought patterns to predict their thoughts, behavior, and speech before even they know. now that you are a certified CIA agent you can easily implement subtle jabs at their deepest layers of internal self in your campaigns. this can lead to many things; catharsis, psychotic breakdowns, worshipping you as a cult leader, anything really. just depends on waht you want out of it. have fun :)

Tell us more. What games you and your group like to run, what your players seem to like, what you're already soing.

Stuff resonates more if you can relate to it and/or it matches your values, but I find that at least for some nerds, fantastical distance from reality also helps. That's to say, try human problems tied up in whatever fantasy you're game is about. Adventurers kicking monsters ass to rescue a kid that got lost while doing stupid shit with his twin, and the emotional return home afterwards. Like that.

Manipulate them. That's all "emotional resonance" actually is in the fictional sense.

Critical Role that shit, son. They're not perfect, but they have more depth than a lot of other examples... at times...

You can't force an emotion in a tabletop game setting. TTRPGS are not good at traditional story telling. They are great for making "war stories" where you and your groups survive a cenario. They CAN be emotional but it is better if it happens organically through play.

You can't, your player will never care about anything, specifically because they know you want them to.
