I'm much more excited for the quest stuff than the other stuff (aside from Festus) the new Blight Kings while more uniform feel off to me. I also don't really enjoy the new armored guys ALL having hornys and the nurgley helmets.

I'm hoping we get some faces in the mix. Quest knocked it out of the park though, deffo picking that up.... though Im blanking, did they give a release date?

Do banners and/or musicians actually do anything this edition? I haven't played since 3rd and I can't find anything in the rule book or index that they do anything. I really have the Steelhelm banners (why are they so HUGE) and want to avoid building them at all.

I kinda wish the blightkings shown had some more wounds and guts falling out but everything else is 10/10 in my book. I especially love the fly flail the big daemon prince looking guy has, the riders, both pestigors and the cankerborn. Definitely got a lot to look forward to on expanding my maggotkin.

Releases don't translate into an active scene, though. It's died off pretty hard at my LGS. We still have regulars but fewer than half of what we had a year or two ago. And i hear other stories like this from other places every day. Even the youtube influencer types have started taking random shots at AoS in unrelated videos. There's been a definite vibe-shift.

blightkings were the kit for bits, the only one left is chaos spawns, and god knows how outdated, off-scale for infantry models, and how little time they have left before they're replaced with a monobuild kit

there was no reason to remove blightkings, these new ones could have been a new unit, blightpriests or whatever

I do think they've got a more priestly vibe to them. Somebody in the last thread mentioned carcosa and I thought it was pretty apt. Personally I like em more but I'm not a nurgle guy so what do I know. Old blightkings were very customizable though. Would've been best to make them a separate thing though. From the looks of it it won't be that hard, you'll just need to trim pimples and barnacles. Probably they have the same bases as chaos warriors or stormcasts, so you can proxy them as those I guess. Both would sorta fit because of gladiator/roman themes.

I think James is trying to split blightkings into two separate units. The old ones were a bit too generic and versatile being the mortal foot soldier, anvil, and hammer unit. There was no in-between for mortal guys with melee weapons and the elite heavy bois.

Pretty much this, the culling of a lot of my favorite models and the state of 4e rules and tomes has put me out.

Nurgle release looks fantastic but even if it were a release for my favorite faction I'd still wonder how long before they get their rules squatted like cursed city.

I think the peasants look really good, personally. They've got some cool little touches, like their unit champion being an old retired Jade Warrior or their banners being dragon kites.

The gun units are pretty dull though, and the Astromancer is just OK. Either way this 2nd wave is basically just adding Cathay's most basic bitch units compared to the first wave that had some fancier shit.

To be fair, the only things added in this wave are the literal levy troops and cheapest, most common mages.

GW could have instead added stone lions, or flying longma cavalry, or Celestial Dragon Guard, The General on Celestial Lion, the weird magic chariot thing, the Firebirds, The Onyx Crowmen, more Dragon siblings, etc etc.

It's an update to add the chaff troops and basic ranged units, which are important to the army but not flashy at all.

Granted I'm not a nurgle guy but I was very impressed by this whole reveal. Cankerborn, sloven knights, rotswords and blight templars are all great and pretty much exactly what I would want. Seriously considering getting into nurgle now where I previously had 0 interest. Standout are the new blight kings, love these fuckers. That being said I do understand people being pissed about the old ones being retired, they weren't my favourite lookswise but looked insanely fun to hobby with.

As for dissappointments, idk not feeling the main pestigors. They look like the blood bowl version which I really dislike. Darkwater ones are great though. I guess the main demon dude also isn't that amazing to me, not bad, just not blowing me off my feet either. Oh, and the poxwretches remind me of poxwalkers which I'm also not a fan of. They're a touch better though.
