I've been looking around the troves but I guess we don't have a scan of the victory games Vietnam 1965-1975, nor the GMT edition. Any kind anon to share the full game or at least a high res of the map of either edition?

After a read through of Chain Of Command: It seems fun, the increased level of detail is nice. My main worry is the support lists mechanic might put off fellow players who may not even get to use their brand new Stuart or whatever.

Hello newfriend, let me explain. /hwg/ often has a picture related to a historical event that took place the same day as the new thread was created. Judging by the date and filename, OP went with Cortés arrival to Tenochtitlan.

Follow up questions: Is Chain of Command 2E a significant improvement over 1E? And are there Mid War lists anywhere? I could use something for 1942/43 North Africa.

Any game that has mechanics that illustrate this?

Often times in medieval and early modern warfare, the more armored and richer members of a unit would be in the front, and the less armored and poorer members would be in the back, so you can present a more heavy front while still bulking out the mass of a formation.

I think billhooks might have done something like that? but I think it was with archers and polearms, not sure about more and less armored infantry.

it would be a neat way to get a cheaper overall unit that initially has the same fighting power as a full heavy armor unit, but becomes a light armor unit after sustaining casualties or something.

How did Romans march 20 miles a day with this god awful heavy ass stick on their shoulder with tons of tools and gear jangling on it? Why didn't they just use backpacks ? I feel like carrying 30lbs lop sides on one shoulder would fuck up my back. Now to mention the pressure from the weighted stick pressing down on your shoulder

Yes, a Song of Drum and Shakos and for slightly earlier there is En Garde.
You posted FrancoPrussian war pic, and I don't know anything that explicitly covers that era for skirmish, but the two I posted should work with a little bit of imagination.
There frankly isn't many explicit options for the Franco/Prussian war in any size battle, for large battles I've seen people use Valour and Fortitude or Men Who Would be Kings, but the FP War is honestly not wargames very much

Question:
What are the standard battle formations of the middle ages? I feel like I have a clearer Idea of the ancient world and the early modern world.

Phalanxes in the front and skirmishers ar the sides for the greeks, the Hastati then principes then triari for republican romans etc.

I would think a stick might actually be better for your back since you can switch positions/leverage points throughout the day istead of a heavy load being on one specific position all day.

Vichy France actually held off the Americans at Oran long enough for support from Germany to arrive. The Americans are launching an attack anyway, but as they're outnumbered in armor, it's not likely to be a cakewalk.

Meanwhile, the British have taken a leaf out of Rommel's book and are attempting a desert hook to avoid and surround Tobruk by launching a flanking attack on Bir Hacheim, but the Italians of all people are responding with a counterattack out of Tobruk into Mersa Matruh, hoping to isolate the 8th Army from Cairo, and the British have actually left themselves open to air attack.

>My main worry is the support lists mechanic might put off fellow players who may not even get to use their brand new Stuart or whatever.
You can always just have a set support point limit rather than rolling for it. If someone wants a Stuart then set the point total to a little above the cost of a Stuart

2e is an objective improvement in my opinion. Many units are better balanced, many rules care better defined and there are a lot more player options with the Chain of Command point system.
The only existing rules for North Africa are the 1941 ones in this larger pdf
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FkPlKv5rHVZJs-C7JR8UE5QV4Ovzq-5c/view?usp=sharing
However if you want to pull in units from 1942-1943 then you can use this database of all of them
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iVO3_AyHeoy87eZQfrl0QN-ZL1e7uvsQSjndzCBokuE/edit?gid=0#gid=0

The info is definitely spread out, I would recommend making some sort of document that centralizes the relevant force lists for your theater. Keep in mind that 2e changed the points costs on some units, if that's something that bothers you it would help to cross reference between the 2e book and the provided 1e force lists.

You could go full autism like I did and do a complete rebalance of all of the units in your era (1941 Eastern Front for me) but that's a lengthy project. The changes are mostly minor and not worth the full effort unless that sort of thing interests you.

Adopting a Napeolonic rules set for FPW probably means eschewing formation and making the ranged weaponry more lethal.
