I'm still holding out hope for someone to make modern figures of the manga versions. Yamaguchi sculpted these trading figures back in the day, but they're brittle as shit and tiny.

Yeah it's a little strange since they did the Mazingers as generic unspecified ones. They just wanted a way to reuse molds so it had to be Getter 1 and Black Getter and they are only in that OVA. Mazingers share some molds too. I think these ABS body robots are too costly to do one release per. I don't know much about the new Patlabor but it's easy to imagine there will be some head swap units to follow.

I honestly don't see much benefit not using PVC for the body like any other Revoltechs. What? you want to not see joints....on robots?? And old Revos have shown a few ways to hide the spheres if they really wanted to. The figures are big enough I don't think painted PVC would look as dull as old Revos used to, especially the heads.

I never understand why every action figure makers can't achieve the same level of articulation for the torso and hips. It's all done with series of ball-in-sockets and having a floating crotch piece, that's it no special trickery. I don't think patents or costs are involved, lots of action figures have similar joint types there SHF, figma for example. And speaking of costs AY and Revoltechs are probably the cheapest of major import lines. AY can achieve this range with the beefiest boys I think most designs are compatible unless the clothes are difficult to break up like a buttoned up jacket. Joker or Railgun schoolgirls does it anyway though.

The main difference I notice is the range of the ball joints. AY or Sexyice's figures make sure the ball joints have plenty of room to move. Maybe a difference in testing out the figures vs. just placing in joints with no second thought? I think it's laziness.

I don't think Ami does. The difference comes from the fact the only way to get the bonus part is to buy from Kaiyodo's stores. That means any sites selling them overseas are just acting as middleman. So they are adding their margin on top of the full price they paid to Kaiyodo. Regular version is through distribution so they buy discounted.

Honestly as much as I love Yamaguchi, he could learn afew things from these guys. It feels like they took Yama's design cues and improved on them. The shoulders are a perfect example.

Use BIG balljoints in the shoulders, instead of the normal AY tiny ones that leave ugly gaps like on Ryu and other figs. The big joints fill in the space way better and still have great range of movement.

The joints might be 10mm wide instead of 8mm? But I don't think that's the dividing factor. These guys are just not sculpting as much gaps as Yamaguchi prefers. Plus the armor helps to hide them. On another note, I don't have swat-skeletor yet to directly compare the range, but here's a similarly "armored" AY at max upwards shoulder range and I don't think it's dramatically more range despite looking substantially worse. It may be just preference but especially for AYs like Ryu I wish Yamaguchi would make the joints bigger to fill in the gaps.

Black suit comes out this week.

Damn, this guy is a chad. Balances great, has excellent heft. The shoulder pads hide the Amazing shoulder joint setup but the result is still effective. Doesn’t mess around with an inward shoulder swing/shrug, but the result is a solid feeling figure. Interesting joint setup on the knees/ankles, where there’s not really a double joint on the knee but it can still flex very strongly.

Yamaguchi's joint style really isn't that complex, but there's a lot of little subtleties that bring out that much more range.
Like the whole torso construction has the pec and groin balljoints pushed way back on the "skeleton'" so that they have maximum range to bend over the abdomen. The pecs are given plenty of space to fit the abs inside, and if they have an untucked shirt or something (like joker or dabi) they combine floating parts with the abdomen piece on an axis so everything can move out of the way. It's so considered and functional, and really not that complicated.

Most other figures (that I've looked at) have super stiff and straight ball pegs that give an illusion of ab crunch, but can't really go all the way. But hey, the sculpt is preserved! So all is well.

For the drilling I was referring to the Manticora figure, to give it the antennae that was removed from the prototype.
The mantis girl antennae can just be pulled out. I had 22 gauge floral wire on hand and that works. It's a bit thin so maybe 20 gauge is a better match.

They have phobia against non-lisenced releases. Assemble Borg was never big sellers and was cancelled. Revo Geo didn't even get through half of what they planned. And I don't think Revoltech Expansion Packs sold all that well either. They haven't even done a body buck figure for the entire history of Revoltechs while most other competitors have done them. Well some AB sorda counts as that so maybe that's not 100% true.

How likely are they to make the other version of Misaka? I'm not sure if Revoltech makes an alt outfit.

Right now I think Revoltechs are on "release and move on" strategy for IPs. They plan a few items from the same IP, bonus if they can be done using shared parts, release them, and move on to a different IP. Unless the sales of that first batch was incredible they won't plan the next. AoT for example could be that the first 3 did well they made 2 more. Railgun I don't see them being a success to that degree.
