Some stories of Ultra Magnus tend to have him originally be a white Optimus recolor. Of course, it's because his old toy was a Diaclone CAR Robot Powered Convoy, which is a Battle Convoy with a trailer that turns into exclusive power armor. Not all the time Ultra Magnus had a name change when he started as a white Optimus after all.

Also, has anyone got their Base of the Primes yet (and I mean Star Convoy)? Some few people already have him and love him for being extremely solid, and the only issue is the hollow legs, which is ultimately a non-issue.

For the same reason some characters that ever appeared in the show get new toys, because they were a thing in the G1 toyline. They're part of the history of the franchise too. As someone who has owned a G1 Magnus reissue for 20 years I get the appeal of the white Optimus in the same way I appreciate Magnus toys that don't need the inner robot to transform. Variety is good and if you're not interested you can just pass and don't buy it, I don't see the problem.

Okay so I really shouldn't be saying this because the design department is pretty closely knit nowadays but I've been working on the periphery of their team in a supporting role for the last 3 years or so and did packaging for some other C level IP in the years prior. I transferred over once there was a vacancy in branding experts (typeface, store displays, retailer brochures) But the old guy has come back and they've worked pretty hard to get me to leave now that I'm redundant. Essentially for the year my work on the transformers brand has primarily been based on " maintaining synergy" so making different lines look like they're all belong together instead of separates series. This will be important as Hasbro expects competing robot lines from publishers like Agabyss and Bandai to be prevalent in 2026, so showing that Transformers are "authentic" will be their strategy going forward. Fortunately within this time period i got to see a lot of early mockups and design concepts put into place so that we could make our designs to fit thematically (See; Kingdom box design based on the war painting with the alligator). Its very rare that I get to see CADs as production and retailer soliciting is already underway by that point. For Wreckgar, he is placed as a level 3C character due to his association with the first Transformers movie and late G1. Higher levels are granted to more important or culturally relevant characters, Bumblebee will always be 1A. As for the 2D rough draft that I was able to see it was just the animated Voyager downscaled to deluxe but hollow and shit hope this helps ;]

I never said it needed to be erased - but without the armor that was basically the face of the character for decades, he's not really worth going out of the way to buy on his own. I own Siege Ultra Magnus (Spoiler Pack version), and I love him - but since I always have him in either vehicle or armored-up mode, his inner bit is never seen. I've never felt the urge to strip him of all of his cool accessories and armor just for the sake of posing him as "Naked Magnus", and I certainly don't see the point in going out of my way to buy a stripped-down version of him that doesn't include any of the fun things that are probably his most defining features.
That's not saying I'm not getting that pack - I want Horribul and Bumper - but I can't wrap my head around people who want the pack just for the Magnus with intentionally missing accessories.

A bunch of autistic nerds paying hundreds of dollars for toys is hardly a good metric to judge a toy's quality. If the company is spending money to get their product out then that's good, however just because they spent a couple millions doesn't mean they have guaranteed success. I started with Beast Wars and only saw G1/The Movie years after the fact; I have no idea what order things were released in or what else was going on at the time. You're missing something important here, the new one isn't going to be just like the original, it's going to need actual joints in legs mode, some of them that the old toy never had: hips, knees and a waist. And this is were things get complicated.
I own the old one, and for it to be updated into pants that aren't a solid brick some good engineering is required. The hips are the main problem here due to how Jetfire's arms turn into the upper legs. It's not as easy as you're thinking, and it's going to require some complexity to keep a good balance between the different modes.

To make matters worse all three were poorly phoned in with their designs based on heavy retools of said 8 year old molds. Other backpacks, time and time again, are because the car modes need to be a specific thing. Elita-1s canon alt mode requires little to no backpack. But we've only gotten her as a retool or prettool of existing figures.

Solus Prime has a nearly non-existant backpack. How did they do it? by designing her robot mode first and her alt mode second.

Maybe, but I still would have picked the Fusion Cannon she's supposed to have over the flail. The cannon was kind of a big deal for the Beast Wars finale, and since the Titan's alt mode is very clearly intended to be the G1 incarnation of the Nemesis, it's something that really should be there.

A flail is generally a stupid weapon, especially when it's too small and your opponents are metal. but if ANYONE should have one, it's a titan. for one thing you could maybe swap out the spiked ball for a hook or anchor, and now that flail transforms into a useful part of the ship.
