It’s kind of funny that he basically only exists because the writer was only told β€œwe have an Autobot train toy coming out” and just let his imagination run wild. (For those curious, Astrotrain and Blitzwing were originally being developed as Autobots before it was decided to switch them, similar to what happened with the Predacons as the Anibots)

Is it worth getting Kingdom Blackarachnia? I already own the og TFA Blackarachnia and that's my fave design, but I still see her as a different person.

She's a profoundly good toy, though obviously the Takara version is better, though.. only slightly, and actually some of its shades of gold aren't quite right to my eye, need a tweaking. but given whom she comes with... that was an easy choice even though I already have the original.

I'm not sure what I was expecting. there's no way to do a satisfying centaurformer that also has a humanoid form.
Like the BEST you could hope for is the robot mode has wings, and the wings turn into the rear part to make a NON-winged centaur body.
I am happy to see he does have shins on those digi legs, even if they're still way too short, they're at least within reason and not that bad for a transformer.. i'd be okay with this guy in robot mode, but i'd be buying him JUST for that. and maybe seeing if I could fanmode an altmode I don't hate.

I wish I could say the same:

-pre order Star Convoy, already has an issue with the clip on the back of his legs, so I'll have to figure something out whenI get my copy.
-Fallen had his thigh issues. I fixed both issues as best as I could, but they could still break later. He also will suffer from Springer syndrome due to how his feet work.
-Want Solus, but not for 25
-Alchemist is kind of boring, would only get on sale.
-Micronus is neat, but thr minicon portion uses a ton of clear plastic, and I'll be a repeat of Blasters cassettes.
-Onyx might use rubbery bits and there's no reason to preorder an animal former when they tend to bin, specially leaders.
-Already have Trion so I don't know if I'll get the new one.
-Got Prima, but a few issues soured me on it.

Need some advice /tfg/frens. Bought a cheap 1/32 Airfix Maserati Indy kit (the car in pic related) with the intent to cut it up and use various joints to make it into a shell for an ERcee I dyed black a while ago when I was trying plastic dye out. Not sure what character to make though; thinking of an R63 Loudpedal? I know it's not a Corvette Stingray but it has a similar coke-bottle shape, would require minimal repainting of the core robot and could allow for a cool robo punk-rock chick type look. Any other suggestions? I don't wanna do her blue though 'cuz I've done so many blue customs already.
Anonymous No.11452729 >>11452736
>>11452721
that's a fucking amazing car. I love it.
btw let us know how the dye turned out, I have wanted to dye figures for a while. seems like the only way to avoid paint rub on the joints. even if I had to still do some other painting later, at least the dye would hide what remains of the original figure.
Anonymous No.11452736 >>11452759
>>11452729
I did the dye ages ago and it turned out pretty great, though it did make her knees oddly loose? Fixed with dabs of superglue but anyway. She's basically completely black now, with the exception of her head which I didn't dye and saved for another custom, and her vehicle kibble which is in the parts bin.
A few things to note if you do dye toys:
>You can't dye plastic lighter, only darker. So you could turn yellow plastic red or green, or white plastic yellow, but you couldn't dye a blue toy a bright red.
>Some plastics dye faster than others.
>The process requires heating the parts in water with the dye (Rit-Dye for Synthetics is best) and a TINY amount of acetone in it. The more dye you use will make the colour stronger. More acetone will help speed the process up but don't use too much, for the sake of the plastic and your health. Also the temperature doesn't need to be very high at all.
>Use a fryer basket in the vat/pan you're using, direct contact with the hot pan could damage the toy parts.
>Obviously don't use a dyeing pan for food.
>Practice on junkers or scrap plastic first.
>The finish is of course incredibly durable but be aware it's only surface level so if you cut/scratch the plastic itself after dyeing, the original colour will be visible.
Having found the joys of Jumpwind multi-primer I've started to move away from dye, but it definitely has a place. Very good for plastics that don't like paint as well.
Anonymous No.11452759
>>11452736
so it was pretty uniform? I have heard that's hard to do, with different kinds of plastic and all.
>Acetone
that is terrifying. but then I just ruined an expensive zoid with fucking alcohol and -wintergreen oil- so I'm probably more uptight than usual.
>fryer basket
oh that's good, I hadn't thought of that. I was imagining making a little 'derrick' and lowering it in with a string.
>don't use the pan for food
damn.. i'm not rich enough to have a designated dyeing pan.
but this is good, thank you. I absolutely might try this sometime, especially if I ever bite the bullet and get Detective Broadway from Gargoyles (for the folded wings, fuck them making you buy him twice) because then I could make the old one into a generic monster instead. maybe practice my putty sculpting. but that would definitely benefit from a dyejob...

I would have preferred AM/SG colour Thundercracker to stand in place of Scourge (headcannon/sperg/collection reasons), but that isn't happening now I guess, I know Takara are still using it for the DC series but have Hasbro already retired the Earthrise Seeker? (inb4 you, your mother and her dog hate the mould, I like it). We got every version of fucking Ramjet but no aforementioned TC? No Earth mode Nacelle? Yeah that's the version I meant, AM/SG is same deco. Hasbro could accommodate collectors of SG and ppl who just like the late 80's/early 90's garishness with simple white outline/"clear" insignia. Not that you're wrong but I am just gonna do a little fact checking here.

>Haslab Magnus is rife with yellowing.
Technically it's not yellowing. It's the fact they didn't add the whitening agent to ALL of the plastics which gives it an insane brightness. You can test this with a blacklight. Again, you're not wrong that it's fucked up, but it's a bit different than yellowing over time.

>Several parts are too stiff.
Can't really speak to this but aside from the torso, it seems like people are getting a little uppity about this and it's not a widespread issue. I can almost guarantee people having issues with the hips are either likely that Bubby Skullface guy who hamhands his shit constantly and almost breaks it on purpose, or very few cases.

>Can't compress Prime's torso, can't modify it either since I wouldn't be able to return it.
I don't recall anyone saying you can't return it if you modify it. Likely if you did, they wouldn't be able to tell unless you messed it up really bad. I shaved off like micrometers and you can't even tell I did it. You also shouldn't even HAVE to think about doing this. I just wanted to point out that I don't think any CS agent has said anything about doing the fix will void your return or exchange.

Whole thing sucks and I won't be buying another HasLab unless it's some figure I'm super attached to, but this is my first and last entry into buying HasLabs period. Fucked up that you spend close to 300USD on this shit and they don't check it. To some extent, I can understand varying QC like the off-color Magnus plastic, because you can only see it when any sort of UV light is hitting it. It looks fine with normal room lighting. The chest thing should have been found almost immediately off of a few test runs. It's just bullshit overall. Please don't take this as me saying you're completely wrong, because you're not.

After checking the prices for Timelines Treadshot, I'm brainstorming some alternatives.
Currently, I'm eyeing Generations Warpath and weirdly, Siege Starscream. Using the Warpath would be just a recreation of the Timelines Treadshot. Using the Starscream would have me copying what Hearts of Steel Megatron is doing, same pose, but adding a couple of wheels and maybe some shields.
I was considering Cyberverse Shockwave but then I wanted to fix the proportions and that would be much more involved than it's worth.

Also, what should I do with my TR Perceptor now that I have the, old, SS86 Perceptor?
No idea if I'll get the new one. I shouldn't.

Qc issues aside, Optimus is very good. He feels nice and chunky in hand and everything holds together just fine. There are some things I don't like here, like how the ankle rockers are visible on the missile pods when in shoulder mode, or how his pistol no longer mounts on the combine mode's shoulder the way it does in the show. The core Optimus is obviously to everyone, veeeery wiiiiide. I feel like this could have been easily designed around the need to do, and while it does definitely help in the super and Omega modes they 100% could have had a more narrow torso split to fill in the necessary space, especially with how chewed up they made his backpack look.

Magnus is fine. He feels like a side grade to the og, the extra torso length is nice. Shame he can't look down at all without cheating a transformation joint. He also could have been better with a little more care, but whatever. His wing qc was a problem for me, nothing a little dremel sanding can't fix though.

Omega Prime is definitely the most important aspect of this set, and he's practically rock solid. Some tighter joints and more rachets would have served him well, particularly the elbow, knee and thigh swivels are not particularly strong, though the joints surrounding are strong feeling enough to not make them a particular problem outside some poses with the matrix saber. The core Optimus's shoulders are not strong at all, one is flat out floppy, but again, it isn't a hard fix to make. The only real problem I have with Omega as a shelf piece is that I HATE how small the feet are now. I wonder how hard it would be to engineer some new more substantial feet.

Bluebolts is... just the og magnus cannons without the central pivot for easy transformation between the weapon modes. Not that big a deal with her.

Since mine isn't in its original condition to actually look now, I wonder if someone could take a look and see if there is some kind of mold deformation around the sides of the slider, this whole disaster reeks of a last second floor change made to the tooling because the torso was sliding too easily or something.
Anonymous No.11453650

I also don't like that the super mode gauntlets are asymmetrical now thanks to the added inner cover, the cover doesn't even fully cover the arm inside, yet looks really bad in base mode, where most of the armor will be when Omega is on the shelf.

If the package shows delivered, the company won't ask about any action on the shipping partner, they typically ask for a police report for a stolen item, then they get their money back via any insurance policy agreement with the shipping partner. After a copy of the report is sent, they then ship the item once more or issue a refund. That's how I've handled stolen packages from Amazon and Walmart. The few times I requested an investigation from USPS, they didn't get any meaningful results, then ghosted me, but UPS did their jobs and got the package back.

I've never watched Prime (next on my list after my TFA rewatch), but I'm with you. I think part of why Beast Wars still resonates with modern audiences is that the stakes feel very real. When Megatron gets into the Ark at the end of BW S2, it really feels like the worst thing that could ever possibly happen. Not just for the Maximals or Cybertron, but for the whole or creation itself.

Anonymous No.11454288 >>11454301

NTA but, i think there's very different intent.
With Marvel Shockwave, he wipes everyone out in one go, and it's first to establish him as a serious antagonist, but secondly to establish a very different status quo (Optimus is a head, Megatron vying for his leadership position back, and Ratchet being the Autobots' only hope). All of this is established in 1-3 issues depending on who's asking, and it gives you a very different type of TF story and stakes (ironic, given that it's one of the first TF stories lol!). However, it doesn't take many issues at all for the status quo to change once again into something new.

With Skybound, the main issue is just that it doesn't feel like DWJ is building up to anything. Currently the plot is moving at a glacial pace, the status quo has barely changed since issue 6, and it seems like he's just stretching out and setting up things, for the next writer to maybe pick up and do something with, and filling the void in the meantime with melodramatic wrestling.

>With Skybound, the main issue is just that it doesn't feel like DWJ is building up to anything

Maybe the pacing could be better, but I don't think it's totally fair to say it isn't building up to anything. They've been teasing the return of Megatron since the book launched. Now that we're finally there, hopefully we get a little more momentum in terms of the overarching plot.

The only missteps are Megatron not having a Canon for his arm or Spines on Godzilla's back. But I'm confident a good third party kit will fix that

They should have used the Grimlock mold for Kiryu and retooled Beast Megatron got Godzilla - either that, or repaint Trypticon into Kiryu (seriously, he's already supposed to be him anyway - he even has the dual rocket launchers) and not do a second figure as the crossover.

This is like taking a cat, spraypainting it in Optimus Prime's colors, then claiming it's him.

My big issue is that Carnivac wasn't SUPPOSED to be a Headmaster. He's a Pretender Beast; he had a real head. There was never an instance of him being a Headmaster, even in the comics, and the only reason he is one now is due to Hasbro's insistence on lazy mold reuse instead of gibing him his own dedicated mold. Don't get me wrong - I love that my boy finally got a new toy after all these years - but he really deserved better.

Iguanus and Bomb-Burst got upgraded just fine without a Headmaster gimmick getting shoved onto them, and even Skullgrin (for all of his other flaws) escaped that fate. If they were insistent on recycling that Weirdwolf mold, the least they could've done was remove the stupid gimmick like they did on Draculus.

So, Mega Grimzilla showed up today. Not really a whole lot to say about him - he's exactly what he looks like, so if you already own the SS'86 Grimlock mold in at least one of its incarnations, you should already know what to expect. At least he came with some blast effects instead of another Wheelie - this is certainly a far better use of the plastic.

The paint details are...alright. I mean, nothing about this really screams 'Godzilla' to me, but at least they tried. Looks far closer to what it's supposed to be representing than that Laser Prime (yes, I already saw the post earlier about the paint details looking similar. No, that doesn't fix the fact that the entire silhouette is completely wrong - at least Grimzilla here gets the 'tail dragging theropod' look right). This guy as-is is nothing to really write home about, but I'm fine with that - Grimlock was always my favorite, and I like and own every other version of the '86 mold, so as far as I'm concerned, it wasn't a waste to pick him up. Looking forward to seeing what DNA does with their upgrade kit for him.

Moving on, I also happened to get this guy today - Ultra Class Beast Machines Jetstorm, to add to my still-growing Beast Machines collection. I already owned the regular Deluxe Class version of him, but found this version still technically NIB for surprisingly cheap due to box damage, so why not?
First thing's first, Vehicle mode. Unlike the Deluxe, they absolutely nailed the look here - he's the correct colors, he's far less boxy, his wings are now the proper size, and his 'neck' now stays extended and has better articulation to match the show. He also comes with two of those drone things he used that one time, both with moveable heads. He aged pretty gracefully, thanks to having never been opened - there's not a single chip or crack in his vac-metal, and there hasn't been any flaking during the multiple times I've transformed him (so far).

Anonymous No.11457636 >>11457637 >>11457701 >>11457755

The primary gimmick of this Ultra version is that his rear segment is springloaded and pops up to reveal a pair of missile launchers; the launchers are connected to the jet...head? cockpit?...by a series of gears, so rotating the turret makes him look in the direction it's aiming (or vice-versa - rotating his head from one side or the other will make the turret follow it). The missile launchers are both functional and can fire their missiles via a set of grey triggers in the back; there's also an electronic gimmick that makes them light up as they're fired. Once again, this one's in excellent condition, but I popped the battery door open and yanked the 20-something year old batteries from it anyway (and it was a good thing I did; they were indeed starting to show signs of corrosion, though thankfully not bad enough to do any damage).
Anonymous No.11457637 >>11457638 >>11457701 >>11457755

While the vehicle mode is a fantastic representation of the show character, the robot mode...is not. He's basically just an upscaled version of his Deluxe toy, with only a few tweaks here and there that don't really do much to fix his appearance. His bigger wings now fold back against the backs of his arms to kinda-sorta-if-you-squint resemble his big shoulder pauldrons from the show, but the way his forearms open up into a mess of panels is just horrible; his hands are also WAY too small, smaller proportionally than even his Deluxe version's hands. He still has that big, blocky chest (though now it transforms slightly differently), and his twin missile launchers sit on each shoulder (where his intakes should have been on the show). He's still got the completely wrong head and face, too, though that was expected - this guy came out before we got the more show-accurate Tankor and Thrust, and was presumably made before the show aired, so they had no idea how much Mainframe would change his model from the toy. Still a little strange that his Deluxe wasn't rereleased with more accurate details later like the other two, but it is what it is.

I have no idea, but I liked it. I grew up with G2; besides, it always reminded me of how ships tend to have their names stamped on them. It certainly made it easier to memorize the names of new guys.

His "Flight Mode". He pulls it off a tiny bit better than his Deluxe toy, thanks to his new neck being able to add a little roundness to the 'cone', but it's still not the greatest. Jetstorm's design was fairly wasplike on the show, while both of his toys are just too bulky and not curvy enough; the fact that neither toy gives him a pair of wings on his back doesn't help, either.
Anonymous No.11457639 >>11457743 >>11457755
>>11457638
One last pic - just him back in vehicle mode showing off more of that new neck articulation; it's funny how he looked buglike in robot mode, but birdlike in vehicle mode, despite being entirely robotic. Anyway, it's pretty clear that most of the love went into his vehicle mode this tome around (especially since the pop-up turret and moving head gimmick is only useable in this mode - his arms and chest lock it all in place in robot mode, so while the missiles can still fire and light up, the launchers can't rotate), so this is probably how I'll keep him displayed. He's WAY too big to actually keep with my other BM guys. Guess I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a modern, show-accurate-in-both-modes version of this guy to come along, but the odds of that happening are slim - especially since Core BM Cheetor was apparently a flop, meaning it's unlikely there will be any further attempts at Beast Machines characters in general.

Jetfire was slightly taller and wider than Prime but hotshot was close to prime and yet toy wise hes way shorter. Also legacy tidal wave size changed all the time and is clear that the team wanted to showcase his small sice combined with megs and the larger bot that he was on his own. Jetfire in pant mode gets significantly larger and wider that it towered primes supermode torso. So i could see them making a tall/wide bot like 86 dinobots and have aome extra junk to make the legs larger. Might be cope but i do really want the pant mode to be bigger than the supermode legs from legacy and maybe be as tall as menasor

In Bayformers' case, the writing is very memorable, despite being dogwater. How many other films can you say you've seen a robot hump Megan Fox's leg, or have a fat NEET screaming at his grandmother to shut up, or Optimus committing many, many warcrimes? Bay has his personal Lambo do a circle around T. J. Miller's Kentucky Fried corpse. It's stand out in its own unique, shitty way.

TFOne is so dry, that all I can really conjure up are thoughts of its major plot holes and the one fight scene between Megatron and Starscream.

I said it at the time and I still say it now, had they done straightforward, expected writing with middle of the road humor, nobody would have remembered it. It would have been "that movie where there's a bunch of human stuff but then eventually you get to see robots"

the humor made it memorable, and memorable is still something. I enjoyed it, I totally get why a lot of people wouldn't, and that makes me enjoy it more. Mostly. Not the 4th one. But like I also always say, every Bay movie does one thing better than the other four and one thing worst of the five, and the 4th was its humor and human moments.

I mean, they're action flicks so I don't expect much in that regard, but all the TF movies are pretty braindead. ROFT is so cheesy and dumb that it could be a G1 cartoon episode. If you turn off your brain you can find enjoyement in them, same as a saturday morning cartoon, but they could have been something much better.

Being memorable for all the wrong reasons doesn't make the movies any less bad, and this is coming from someone who watched every single one on cinemas. But I wasn't a kid when those started so I'm not going to fool myself thinking they were good. Something way better could have been done with this franchise. the robots were actual characters, and the stories were coherent in ... the first, third, and fourth movies.
the trouble is that those two things did not overlap whatsoever. They were actual characters, but so what? Nothing about any one of them was important to any of the stories, except Spock. Other characters were memorable, or did cool things, but the story would have been identical without them

Ikr? The first thing I do when getting a new Transformer is transform it once using the instructions, then transform it back and forth a few times without them to memorize the process. After that, it's on weekly rotation with the rest of my collection - usually one week in robot mode, the next in vehicle mode, and so on. The whole point of owning a transforming toy is to... y'know, transform it once and a while at the very least.

Only exception is for triple changers and such where the extra mode isn't exactly obvious, but that really depends on the figure

Firstly, being silly and cheesy is not a bad thing. That's exactly why I adore the Bay trilogy, they know what they are - bombastic action thrillers with college-jock humor - and they do a great job of min-maxing all their stats into doing exactly that well.

Thoughever, I think people forget just how cutting-edge the films were at the time. The CGI still blows many current films out of the water, and the first of these movies is coming up on 20 years old. Frankly, they just didn't have a choice but to limit the Transformers' screen presence to primarily the essential action scenes. Given their limitations, I think they were able to give the bots sufficient personality, but I will readily admit that the tie-in games and comics were far from unwelcome lol.

The G1 show is enjoyable in its cheesiness, not the actual quality of its writing, and no amount of nostalgia is going to change that. And I watched it three times because it's fun with the correct mindset. But that doesn't make the writting good, just fun in its campiness. If anything this just proves you'vw not watched a single animated show that goes beyond what a Saturday morning cartoon made to push toys in the 80s has to offer.
There's a big difference between things you can enjoy and things you actually know are good quality. I can enjoy some fast food and still think it pales compared to a good steak. Same with the Bay movies with the difference it's more difficult to me to give a pass to their faults when they're not a low budget cartoon for kids.

Nacelle invented the VTOL technology used by some of the Seekers. Red Wing is...uh...just pre-Beast Wars Terrorsaur.
