I want to point out an important factor anons seem to ignore when comparing figure lines, and that is the scope of the corporations. Comparing at a figure level is perfectly fine, but when you start talking about distribution, sale strategy, even pricing, you're starting to talk about the companies. Bandai, GSC and MF, and Kaiyodo, are nothing like each other. Kaiyodo struggles not going into the red. The Tamashii section of Bandai might be similar in scale to the entire GSC/MF I have no idea, but they are still the pinky of the entire Bandai Namco Group. You can't expect Kaiyodo to be able to do the same thing as these giants, and that's a simple fact.

It's like comparing McDonald's and some random small town diner. You could compare the burgers, and the diner could taste better. But if you're complaining why can't I get that diner's burger from the other side of the planet whenever you like, you sound insane.

That's also a strange thing to discuss, because Kaiyodo seem as though they want to get out of it. Miyawaki constantly talks about how action figures never made much profit, even the current gashapon. Choco Egg era was really the only time figures made good money, it paid for their corporate HQ.

The old(?)goal I guess besides collecting ticket money from all their junk collecting dust in warehouses, is the model kit business. I think they put a lot of money into Artpla and the startup for that could count for a lot of the reds. Also spreading WF to other countries so being event planners? No argument Kaiyodo is a strange company. Artpla don't even look that promising. The increase in Revoltech releases to me seem more like pressure from their investors MSD, but could be Kaiyodo actually trying. There's lot of duds now though.

I haven't bought a revo since the TV Eva days. I bought a Curry Meshi Kun recently. I noticed he has smooth movement joints instead of the clicky joints of the old Eva figures. Is this the new standard regarding joints? I much prefer the smooth movement over the ratchet click movement. Although it kinda defeats the purpose of the name of the line but I don't care. Smooth is so much better. If I get Ingram and Sachiel, am I in for more smooth movement like a Figuarts or Figma?

I don't have mine yet but if it is the actual joint then heat has very little effect. Heat works for PVC but not other plastics as much. Joints are usually POM nowadays. It is an issue with some Revoltech joints today like the 8mm ones having too tight of a hinge. My method involves drilling holes in specific spots so I don't know if that helps. Ideally you want to disassemble the joint and sand down the contact points.

One easier method that brings some improvement is to leave the joint in a position of strongest resistance. Over time the plastic will compress and other positioning will be smoother.

Shock oil, but leave it a bit and keep moving the joint. My Mirko was a bit tight and that did the trick. It took a LOT of moving and patience though. Went from squeaky mess to buttery-smooth perfection. The knee joints are especially hard to get into, but if you are patient and make use of gravity while moving her about, the stuff should work its way in eventually. Another tip: use a syringe to apply a little bit inbetween joint discs by poking in there a bit or to reach difficult places.

Anons I have a question regarding these type of knees, I don't mean the spiky ones, but rather the swivel function.
I'm thinking of buying an Agent Venom, but so far the revos I own have the balljointed knees which I'm used to move around a lot and do crazy poses with.

But I'm deeply afraid my stupid hamhands would snap this little friction or if I would be unlucky that it arrives prone to breakage or with shitty QC.

The peg inside the knee is pretty thick. They sometimes have issues because they kept changing the format if the pegs. Spider-Man 2.0 was such an example where it had issues staying connected. Issue that was fixed on the reissue though. AK and DP 2.0 had looseness issue because the peg was 2 pronged and could bend inside the hole weakening the friction. I personally like when the peg was ball peg like with BP and Joker, seemed like it had the least problems

Agent Venom has no issues that I know of. Maybe a difference in friction intensity, could be too tight, too loose, or one of each. Posing has less freedom but it's enough to take the poses you want to take. Sitting closed legged in a chair is impossible to do, for example.

I don't think the did anything he already is aware of. The main issue with AY is the low budget, that they have to use the same set of joints (and not use too many paints, etc). The kind of double joints used for the elbows and knees used in Unkval have to be unique molds every time if it was done on AY. Kaiyodo won't allow that. We are starting to see some increase in budget though some Revos have double jointed knees though I'm not sure how shared use they have. The nly way to have high articulation with these shared joints is to have more exposure of the joints. The only way to work around that is to cover them with moving pieces and Yamaguchi does that when he can with shoulder armor. So I don't see a possible change coming.

The only time Yamaguchi have less constraints are with the ABS plastic robots action figures like the Mazingers and Getters where no Revoltech joints are used. But unlike the first attempts these guys clearly have a mandate of using shared parts for multiple releases. No doubt restriction from the failures of Convoy and Shinkalion.

Do you have any recent male AY? The overall joint sets changed from mix of Revolver Joints (ratchets) and Revol Mini Joints to smooth Geo Joints, and more use of ball socket joints most notably for the main body. It's not just the joints not being ratcheted but the types and use of joints are different. The first few AY may have that same name (technically it's Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi now), but they are nothing alike and much more like older Revoltechs and VulcanLogs. Shoulders and torso joints you can really feel the difference.

It's more of an issue of the design of the costume, like what you think are the knees aren't where the knees actually are. They're not that different from other recent AY but the broad upper body of Batman doesn't help the illusion.

I think for Batman it's just coincidental. AYs typically have a distinct Yamaguchi art style and that brings little changes to Batman but a lot to Catwoman. They're not recreation of the form from the source media, they are interpretations of Yamaguchi, so the source doesn't matter much. It's how Yamaguchi always operated. Arkham Knight isn't straight out of the screen either if you look carefully.

Granted Batman isn't Yamaguchi's but as AY they keep that style. Same reason Supergirl looks the way she does despite a different sculptor. It would be strange if that Catwoman looked more like Ayane for example next to all the other DC AYs. Ultimately using the game costume was just an excuse to have a detailed heavy sculpt.

The left leg's knee joint was assembled upside down and the pin is a few mm higher than it should be. It should be rotated 180°.

They fixed the pegs so they don't bend anymore but use such an easy to mess up QC nightmare shape for the base. I guess it was like that before since I doubt they changed the molds for the actual leg pieces.

Shouldn't be too difficult to fix but real annoying.

Yeah, they should have angled the top right corner of the left knee peg so it couldn't be assembled upside down like the right knee peg is. Weird that they did the right one but not the other.
