Every 5 years or so I end up selling my entire collection. I used to have a massive collection of SHF dragon ball figures, SAS jojos, Evangelion shit, a whole bunch of Fist of the north star fogures.. sold in lots one by one. It’s like the once I’ve had something on display for so long and can’t keep up with new releases or have space anymore I don’t really feel the need to keep the entire display around so I end up selling entire lines in bulk. I just let go of a massive amount of Storm Collectibles figures I NEVER would have thought I’d sell 2 years ago. I remember a while ago it was a pipe dream to have good figures of Baki and Yujiro, and when I finally got them I felt underwhelmed, and I didn’t feel much when I sold them all off either. I still love toys though, and will never sell the ones that are truly special. Maybe the lesson is less is more? Or to think extra hard about what you truly want to have in your display? Or that our tastes change overtime and it’s a natural part of collecting to purge and start anew?

Dunno, sounds like you have autism. Either that or you get into a toyline without having any acutal attachment to the source material. I have several lines where aside from a release here and there, I have pretty much everything I want from it. SHF DBZ figures are a great example, back in like 2018 or so, I was getting a new SHF DBZ figure a month. I was literally picking up every release. Now, I'm getting maybe two or three a year. I don't keep up on the releases as much, most of them are reissues with slightly new heads that I just can't be bothered to spend my money on. But, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the collection I've built. Only way I'd part with it at this point is if I were really hard up for money.

I just don't get this mindset where people go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a bunch of toys of characters you barely know or care about, only to flip it at a loss a few years or months later. It's like the guys who are flipping currently available figures loose for more than retail, it's like, did you buy and not like it or something?

Are you the dude with the ps5 and he ring lights who used to pose a lot of action shots with effects? If so that's sad you sold your collection, but I did think you had a lot for the amount of shelf space so makes sense if you can't display them.

>Or to think extra hard about what you truly want to have in your display?

It also helps doing a list of figures you might like to buy so you can get a better picture of how many figures you'll be buying during a short time frame and then you'll notice which ones are the ones you don't actually want.

I've been collecting for about 10 years or so and i've only had three figures that i regretted buying in a collection of around 50 figures.

The lesson is that anime toys suck. Anime toys are a blind consumerism machine where yes, the toys technically have good articulation and detail and such, but they're not meant to be anything but effigies to bland, near-identical-looking characters and media you've made a core part of your personality.
To be fair, many toy collectors in general have this issue. The Transformers fandom has devolved into people who don't care about original/innovative designs but instead the same ~25 show designs but with more accuracy and articulation (while the vehicle modes and play features decay!). It's not about having fun; it's about nostalgia bait and a parasocial attachment to children's media. I feel like such an outlier for not caring about the latest greatest release like SS86 Megatron or whatever. We also see this in Star Wars and superhero toylines where we don't get creative lines like Power of the Force or Toy Biz anymore; it's all the same Black Series stuff of the same big characters with occasionally an oddball release to keep the more seasoned collectors engaged.

>Maybe the lesson is less is more?
The worst influence of collecting is buying anything just because you're a fan of it.
Example: I love Rayearth, so when they got figmas, I bought the line as soon as I could afford them. But I also felt underwhelmed with ALL of them. They're fine toys, but I didn't feel the same energy I got watching the anime, so I sold them for just about the same price I got them.

I also have 4 different brands of Chainsaw Man. I don't even watch Chainsaw Man. I'm still building an army of them because that's the potential I see. And I hope to grow it just a teensy bit more if the toys are good.

You can also be a fan AND still collect out of fandom, but I only get the characters I actually care about. Ben 10, for this example. I loved Playmates' improvement of Bandai's endless 5poa shit, but I've made no effort to collect them all throughout its decade of relevance.

So the answer IS less is more. You don't really need them all, no matter how big a fan you are, or how much you like a toy just because it looks great.

>Or to think extra hard about what you truly want to have in your display?
You have to ask yourself "Why do I collect at all?" Is being on display your toys' only purpose? Do you even play with the toys you buy? Don't you imagine long arching stories about them battling each other or just plain hanging out? It doesn't have to be any of these, but you need to wonder why they don't always have a permanent place in your collection, if it means that much to you

>Or that our tastes change overtime and it’s a natural part of collecting to purge and start anew?
I actually think it's healthy that you rotate every 5 years. I review my collection every year and decide which ones stay or don't. Tastes do change, and even im influenced by a show ending, or hype just plain dying. But I stick with what I have because they don't take up space and they have sentimental value that isn't influenced by some exterior source

I've been collecting for 15 years and have pretty much always sold/donated stuff over the years that's lost its appeal to me, but never anywhere near most of my collection. Still, at the end of the day, if you feel better about your collection after selling what you did, then it sounds like you made the right call. I've reached a point where I'm pretty much satisfied with it and don't have much space left to expand. Besides, with the QC issues, price hikes, exclusives/artificial scarcity, and decreasing accessories, I'm kind of burnt out on action figures regardless and am looking more at scales recently.

It's important to be aware of the cringe aspect of collecting. Toys are gay to collect as an adult, no amount of coping changes that, so all you can do os manage the quantity/quality of your toys. Don't collect mountains of shit, have standards and don't be a horder.

I buy a lot of shit without having any attachment to the source material. Literally don't care about who these robots are other than LOOK HOW FUCKING COOL THEY LOOK. Don't even like Ashley Wood's art, but ooof, look at how cool the fucking robots look in physical form!
I buy a lot of things on a whim, because "that looks cool" and will keep them forever.

I think OP's problem is that he's just a consumerwhore. Buys whatever just because it's the flavor of the month or because OLD FAVORITETHING THAT GOT NEW THING ANNOUNCED.

>>11456854
>I actually think it's healthy that you rotate every 5 years.
Wasting money on shit you didn't actually want isn't healthy.

It's fine if you lose interest in something over time, but if you have dozens of things you're getting rid of every 5 years, that's too much.
MAYBE the first time some you may go overboard and buy way too much junk. You acknowledge you have a problem then. But you do that AGAIN? That's nuttery.

Pretty much the only time i get rid of shit is because something better came along or the toy i bought turned out to be shit. The latter is rare, since toys haven't improved since the early 00s and companies have been cutting budgets for the past 6 years or so.

That's what immediately came to mind for me as well.

I used to date one of these people and one moment they would literally want to die without <insert interest of the month>, then would put ALL their time and money into it, idolize it, then once obtained be happy for 5 mins, find out its not 100% positive theres some downsides or QA issues or whatever, ditch the obsession entirely, sell off or give away all of the related shit, and then be into some new shit the next month, rinse and repeat for eternity.

Anyways whether its BPD or not OP needs mental help.

I mean if you have some self control about it, it's fine. For me, it depends on the franchise itself. Spider-Man for instance, is my all time favorite character, so I'll buy pretty much anything of him because I like him. However, I'm not as big of a fan of the X-Men, so I'll buy only one or two looks of only my favorite characters from that team.

You sound like you don't play with your toys, which is nearly as big of a waste as being a consumerwhore.

What's it matter that I don't care about who UNKNOWN CHARACTER if they get played with in the same manner as Dude McHalo or Predator Knockoff from the famous Bungie franchise, Halo?

There's entire toylines that aren't from anything, just shit that was created to LOOK COOL so people will buy it. Lines like Acid Rain and Marauder Gun Runners are literal who series without any real characters and i use their toys in the same way i use random monsters/aliens/robots from who-cares series.

If anything, this is starting to sound like more consumerism. Are you only allowed to buy shit from established, popular series too?

Shit man, even GI Joe started off as generic soldier man that kids only bought into the series because he was the best soldier man toy on the market. The story was added only after he got popular. And these stories were only added because MARKETING figured out that shit will sell better if you attach story/movies/games/comics/cartoons/etc to them.
Whatever happened to imagination and creating your own story? Oh right, killed by consumerism because people need to enforce following trends.

I'm 35 years old subs. of course a terry fag would be addicted to waste his money on absolute garbage. People like you are what's killing the hobby... is what i would say if hadn't got rid of them, good job.
A little advice, next time you buy a toy worth more than 30 bucks, ask yourself what the fuck are you doing with your life.

I haven't used this site in years btw, at least you don't have to wait 15 minutes anymore. Feels like a ghost town somehow but not quite. Is unsettling, i don't like it.

>nitpicking someone's backyard because his consumerwhore mentality got pointed out
Don't see the point in resurfacing or pouring new concrete when it's still smooth and flat.
I get it, consumerwhores want shit to be BRAND NEW, hence constantly buying new shit just because it's NEW, but most new properties only exist under nazi-like HOA authoritianism. So i bought a 40 year old property so i don't get fined for leaving the hose on the lawn or parking my car on the street.

And since you're a third worlder and don't know what HOA is: Home Owner Associations are usually in charge of neighborhoods and make insane rules up to keep the value of the houses up, because in first world countries, houses are seen as investment. The value of houses go down because women think ICK when they see cars made before 2023 in a neighborhood, so the HOA makes rules that you're only allowed to park your car inside your garage, so no one can see their neighbor doesn't own the newest model car. If you leave your car parked in your driveway or by the sidewalk for longer than 3 hours, you get fined by the HOA.

And it's impossible not to criticize a third worlder for being downright disgusting. They don't even have basic hygiene and their dingy lit rooms have stained furniture everywhere, with exposed electrical wiring. It's A WORLD of difference between my taking pictures outside, with a few seeds and twigs laying around on sunbleached concrete and some guy's room having a floor that looks like it's just hard packed dirt.

BTW, I'm only talking about my grudge holders, who almost all seem to be third worlders, based on the photos they used to take. Which they don't do anymore, because they finally realized how disgusting and poor they look. It's telling that they just stopped taking photos, instead of actually cleaning their shit.

This is a good point, even if you like something there's diminishing returns when buying more.

Say the first toy gives you 100% enjoyment, the second 90-100%, but adding a third will be just 50-70% and so on. Best to stop at one or two.

It's a joke, retard. If you look up the file name in our archive, I always say I'm "trying" to samefag as him, because you shills pretend everyone is a samefag if they criticize Joytoy in a tiny way. And that guy has admitted his Joytoys have come broken or break easily, hence "that's totally me, check out my not-quite identical set up"

Whereas you shills love to call me poor because i dare to point out how brittle Joytoy's figures are, yet you guys are actually poor. Your toy collections are tiny. You live in third world countries. You don't know what basic hygiene is. Your rooms are tiny and cave-like. Your furniture is covered in mold. Your electrical wiring are exposed rat nests. You can't even afford a computer and just post from your tiny smartphones.

You guys love throwing stones, yet you live in the shittiest glass houses ever.

It's funny that you think anyone would WANT to pretend to be a poorfag. It's downright impossible to fake some of shit you third worlders posted without damaging your house or hurting yourself. So you guys have avoided taking photographs of your shit smeared hands, instead of washing them. You avoid taking pictures of your electrical sockets. You avoid taking pictures of your floors. You only take pictures of factory samples your company provides for you, because you don't actually like toys.

The "I'm only pretending to be retarded" defense. You've been caught posting other anon's pictures and trying to play them off as your own in the past, which is why nobody trusts you. You have a folder full of other anon's photos crying "look how poor they are" while you live in a ghetto and block out the background of so many of your photos because you know that anons will judge you in the same way. And you even cry about how you take less photos these days because of stalkers and grudge holders, all while you continue to collect other people's photos with filenames like "third world electrical wiring" because you quite literally are one of those stalkers and grudge holders you complain about.

So you have to use your smartphone's lighting to take these horribly lit photographs of the toys your company gives you to shill on /toy/, because you can't afford anything else.

I don't give a fuck about Joytoy. Holy shit, you're obsessed with that company. People know you are a poorfag because it's obvious that everything you cry about is projection. Crying about stalkers and grudge holders while stalking the anons in the 40k thread. Crying about third worlders while living in a third world ghetto in a first world country. Crying about shills while shilling McFarlane. Keep proving you are a lunatic stalker collecting photos of other people's toys while you live in a ghetto.
>you're a hypocritical bitch who's been holding a grudge for... how long?
I'm not the one with photos saved from all the anons that made fun of me in the 40k thread. How long are you going to hold that grudge for? You seem to think that everyone that can tell you are a tard is from that thread for some reason.
>I also like how you think my buying shit is some wrong thing to do, just because it's a brand you don't like.
So, it's ok for you to be critical when other people buy toys you think are garbage, but when you repeatedly buy a computer from a company that is notorious for being garbage, nobody can point out your terrible decision making? By your logic, because you are being so defensive about the company, you must be an Alienware shill. That's why you feel the need to name-drop them.

Learn to read. The schizo's saying I "stole" some guy's image and tried to pass it off as my own (never happened).
So it's not even the same thing as me posting my /own/ image, asking the alienware guy I'm trying to samefag as whether the desk he's using is made of plastic or if it's a mat, so i can improve in passing off as him better by finding a leather mat. Again, it's all very tongue in cheek, because people like the schizo claim anyone who criticizes Joytoy figures are samefag and that alienware guy owns some of the same shit as me.
And the funniest part about that is the fact that alienware guy and myself are the few people who even post their own toys in the Warhammer 40k thread. So if we were "samefag", we would make up a quarter of all OC posters in the WH40k general

I'd love for you to take a picture of at least a dozen toys from 6 different toy companies on a 4 foot by 4 foot section of unbroken concrete like i did.

But i know you can't do this, because the only toys you have in your posession were given to you by a chinese toy company, because you're nothing but a shill living in a sardine can with 50 other people, so you can't even take pictures outside without your shit being stepped all over.

also also, this isn't a porch. It's a part of my backyard. Since you're a third worlder: porches are usually shaded because they're under or near a roof. So the only shade it gets is when the sun is just right and one of the trees can block the sun, like right now.

It is natural to purge, somewhat. I used to be very big into record collection, vinyl and imports, and when I moved, and had to get rid of my stereo system, I still kept a certain amount of vinyl, but when I had to move again, and it was clear across the country, paying freight and weight (since I had a car to drive as well), became an issue, the vinyl was one thing that went.

Any collection would be the same thing. I do agree with some of the anons that if you aren't that invested, you should at least slow your roll in collecting. I see some new toys I am interested in in lines I collect but I'm not as fussed if I miss out on one or two of them as I used to be and I feel fine all around.
