I've collected Mafex for nearly 10 years(actually probably over given how long ASM2 was), and yes this feels like a common issue. If you look at how white people are drawn in anime when specifically depicted as foreigners, they focus on long faces, prominent noses, hard edged faces.
The comic releases in particular feel like anime adaptations of comic art more than straight likenesses. Their live action likenesses have gotten better, though, and still way better than say, figma attempts.
This isn't enough to put me off entirely or find a major issue, just something I've noticed.

NECA's clearly have a stylized look, much like mcfarlane where the figures are intentionally designed to look "hand-made". If that's your thing, more power to you. Equally, some collectors prefer the more simplistic minimalist, mass produced, clinical look modern figures like mafex go for. Both are opinions, both are valid, nobody is wrong. End of conversation.

I'm happy with the Mafex and how it's far more fun to pose and play with plus it fits alongside more toylines in general. The NECA looks nicely detailed but has dated engineering with very limited range for posing. Likeness is about on par, and while the NECA is more detailed I never liked that the head looked stretched out in some angles vs the Mafex which feels closer to Arnie's head shape. I actually own more NECA figures than I can count vs Mafex so it's not like I'm biased against NECA either.
