>>11475648As a long long long toy collector, there are some things they did with figures that don't show up in the photos that make them especially appealing as small art pieces. They use a lot of different materials, techniques and finishes to maximize the aesthetic and emotion of the figures. It's part of how you can tell pretty instantly when a Labubu is fake, because they use a cheap glossy plastic with painted features; the original Labubu macarons use a pretty high quality fur, matte plastic face and inset eyes. Some of my favorite series use translucent, pearlescent, matte and glossy, and flocked plastics. I know it's dweeby but I find the whole process of designing and manufacturing products very interesting and they obviously spend extra money trying to meet the artists' visions for each series and make them look premium. I really respected that originally. I'm sure it was all to boost their brand and make more $$$ but they did it by boosting quality and vision and I don't hate that.
Now, they let the resellers flood their stores and don't seem to give a single shit, but rather seem to enjoy the mania. I get being excited that there is such a demand for your products and seizing the opportunity to make money on it. But they are sacrificing the things that made their brand interesting and premium, cheapening it with these swarming flies of resellers hovering around every vending machine and the doors of the store trying to buy all the stock to resell in the parking lot. Fucking rancid vibes. I just wanna buy pop beans, Pop Mart man, let me in, and restock your fucking bean containers.
