Thread Question: Will you be getting Fright Zone?
>>11469098 (OP)>Thread Question: Will you be getting Fright Zone?Free shipping on $75+ ends the day before Fright Zone goes up so probably from literally anyone besides Mattel
>>11469098 (OP)>Will you be getting Fright Zone?Nah I'm saving space for Slime Pit, always liked it more.
>>11469126Will other retailers like BBTS sell it?
>>11469098 (OP)>Thread Question: Will you be getting Fright Zone?Probably not, i just don't have the room for these playsets. Already have grayskull, snake mountain, and snake mountain ring in my closet. I like it and I damn sure want the frighty but 100 for another thing to sit in box in the closet just isn't worth it
>>11469201Very likely BBTS, EE, and Amazon
>>11469293I wish we could get some advanced info on this..
>>11469098 (OP)Definitely buying it. Had SM & CG as a kid, and have both origins, but lusted after FZ as a kid
>>11469098 (OP)>Thread Question: Will you be getting Fright Zone?Probably not but that box art is so cool I'd be tempted.
>>11469098 (OP)I've been wanting the fright zone for a long time. I'll be buying. I frankly love that the Horde are probably the most powerful faction in terms of armies and galactic conquest yet their vintage base is essentially a rock but. Still spooky though.
>>11469216>20x20x14feels like cheating counting the top of the tree or measuring across when the set is an L shape
>>11469098 (OP)>Will you be getting Fright Zone?I think so, since its a smaller playset and its my favorite design of them. Also I like the Horde the most overall of any of the groups.
>>11469098 (OP)>Thread Question: Will you be getting Fright Zone?If they keep the same flat rate for international shipping, yes. I might get He-ro and Sharella if they are still available too.
>>11468431Thanks anon, wtf I've never seen these before. An unreleased concept Skeletor with a hidden chest monster. Yes Mattel I'll buy it.
>>11469581I love the fact that things aren't selling out anymore. It means that I can wait until something that's must-have comes out and then get a bunch of stuff I'm lukewarm on all at the same time.
>>11469098 (OP)Fright Zone has been the playset Iโve wanted the most, honestly. I love the Horde. Only other playset I think Iโd want at this point is the Slime Pit, MAYBE a Snake Lair if they end up doing a simple clamshell-styled thing.
Itโs honestly kinda hilarious how the proposed Snake Lair was just quietly swept under the rug by Mattel. Basically everyone hated it kek.
>>11469708Do you think collectors are just getting burnt out on Origins? Or is Mattel just producing enough Creations figs now?
>>11469715I think it's a little of both, actually.
>>11469715I think the hype as died down since 2020 when Origins was new and exciting.
Personally I am certainly burnt out. Not to start bitching but Mattel doesn't make it easy for international collectors and after you miss enough stuff you were hyped for, you lose that FOMO feeling that makes you snap up stuff off Mattel Creations the second it's available.
Not meant to be a negative comment just honest. A few years ago it would have been inconceivable that I wouldn't buy 3 MC exclusives in a row.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to get a Sword of the Ancients that came with CC He-Man? I just want the sword and as a leaf shipping off ebay is really expensive.
Would the BTS thread be my best bet? Mr. Home Arcade's comment section?
Anyone will be kinda disappointed once movie takes over Masterverse? Not that I feel for Vintage Collection trap but they could do more New Etheria figures.
>>11469713>Itโs honestly kinda hilarious how the proposed Snake Lair was just quietly swept under the rug by Mattel. Basically everyone hated it kek. They'll likely try again at SDCC. Hoping what they show this time is more accurate to the illustrations and less bloated addons, like that snake vehicle. I am not backing it past $150.
>>11469974Certified snakehater here - I would buy this playset. Slightly bigger than the Slime Pit but not obnoxiously big is the sweet spot.
But I'm not going to put any snakes on it It'll get used on the Zolo shelf.
Still no barechested ladies in Origins.
>>11470212couple o swipes of acetone or brush cleaner is all it takes.
>>11470212I don't know if it's the sculpt or the paint but her face looks awful
Skeleshredder gives me hope they do that TMNT style slime pit playset.
>>11470212I like the fact it's at least a cute strapless bikini top compared to lynn or teela so I might keep it kt like this unless there's left over sharella later in the year. Now gimme this in masterverse and battleground Teelas. Also doll versions too.
>>11470457Does it? He feels like the capper to the line does he not? Like what else would they actually do since they're moving on to Thundercats?
>>11470330>I don't know if it's the sculpt or the paint but her face looks awfulYeah, I was excited for some POG figures in Origins and then He-Ro and his girl both end up with awkward derp faces. Is poor Preternia just cursed?
>>11470947Maybe they aged strangely due to stress of being in a war fighting snakes and giants all the time.
>>11469974Is there a better image of those unreleased MOTUC snakes? Not that I think I would want them except for maybe the purple lady-snake.
Where do you think Club Grayskull exclusives should go/will go after the third Preternia figures?
>>11471215I wish the movie would look this cool. I'd rather see a stylized 3D animated MOTU film over the halfassed live action mess we're getting.
>>11471224If the artist had opted for Spikor instead of Webstor or Strongarm, we could've said he predicted the movie villain cast almost exactly...right down to the Goat
>>11471149Strobo and Plasmar? About time we got them.
Maybe more Filmation figures if retail moves to 200X.
>>11471215Ummm where is Pythonus and Quick Flik? Golden Rod? That castle in the background doesn't look anything like the Snake Lair.
Shameful.
>>11471215>fanmade AI movies in 2030 be like..
>>11471224For a $200mil movie, the VFX better be on top notch.
>>11471570Cool, i like owning copies of pics of mondos motu stuff. I could get one i guess but itd be a headache. Still, they look awesome and i enjoy man e faces.
>Evil Leader and his Dreadful Dragon
>Fright Zone description calls the monster Dreadful Dragon
>Implying Skeletor's is a baby version of Hordak's
>Deepest lore
Who should I get tomorrow? ToG Donnie to complete the 4 bros or Fang Man?
>>11471344FUck you Axel go straight to Snake Hell!
>>11471486I wish they'd sell the baby Dreadful Dragon separately. I already have the vintage Fright Zone and don't need another, but I'd pick up the Dragon for a reasonable price. What would be awesome is If they ever decide to scale him up 3x and sell him as a stand alone beast.
>>11471991If you already have the other 3, might as well get Donnie.
>>11469201https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/304901
>>11472156It's not even out yet and I already want a Fright Zone expansion pack like Castle Grayskull got
>>11471741These are all $10 on clearance at Target now.
>Webstor, what the fuck are you bringing in here?
>It's a SNAKE MAN, boss! Can I keep him?
>No! Get it out of here before it attracts more of them!
>BOSS! We got a problem out here!
>NYEH! Now look what you've caused, you web spinning boob!
>Origins is ruined!
>>11472458kek! I love the posing, especially Snake Face exploring the cave
I hope this cootie-patootie comes with Slime Pit.
>>11472559>Thats my son! Never speak to my son again!
>>11472458Kek.
Well now that we know who to blame, time to hang my Webstor with his own rope.
So what's everyone's plan on obtaining the Fright Zone? I'll probably go for bbts if mattel isn't dishing free shipping unless amazon or ee
I just realised cool detail about CC Orko. He's not just two figures in one, his accessory is two in one.
Sure it looks like Hero Medal from Creatures from the Tar Swamp that he got for saving Adam's life but if you reverse it's also Orko's Magic Medallion that he lost in the same episode.
>>11473201I'll probably take advantage of BBTS POL feature. I just wish I knew what their pricetag for it was.
>>11473201Is it weird to not feel compelled to get a playset just because it's team in "incomplete?"
I don't really want Fright Zone yet because I don't even have Dragstor to round out my core Horde. If he was out or at least even announced, I'd probably be more enthused to have a display piece for the Horde
>>11472530He probably will. Every playset so far has come with some kind of figure(s)
>Grayskull had Sorceress>Snake Mountain had two serpents and a little spider >Fright Zone is getting a full sized dragon>Eternia got Moaty and King GrayskullLogic just dictates Slime Pit will have to have at least 1 mini figure
(If I were Mattel I'd honestly include enough to get away with charging as much for Slime Pit as for the regular playsets, with multiple pack in figures and diorama set pieces. I could fill a list of cool potential pack ins.)
>>11473312Make the slime pit a 2-for-1 and make parts interchangeable and include the Shredder Ooze Pit. Front of the box has classic Slime Pit art and the back has a new ToGs art. Green translucent He-Man is a must.
>>11473751Maybe hinting at this guy.
>>11473770It's Argentinian Top Toys Modulok
Don't read more into it than there is
>>11473801I would buy this. Hope it's an exclusive somewhere because it would go great with my camo khan.
>>11471741>>Implying Skeletor's is a baby version of Hordak'sSo will we get an adult Dreadful Dragon at some point? Like the one depicted on the box art?
>>11474109It's literally coming with a Fright Zone.
>>11473230Ask yourself, do you think it will be easier or harder to get Fright Zone once you have Dragstor and how much you will regret missing it? Will it still be on MC, maybe get a price drop or will you pay Uncle Scalper? If anything else, you can buy it now, leave it in package and either open later or resell it. For all we know, Dragstor gets revealed on SDCC. Then again, stuff doesn't sell out anymore so you might be safe.
>>11472150>Fuck you AxelI thought you might like to see this
Get ready for Great Black Wizard, Pythonus, Robo Woman, Muck Man, Red Shadow, and many many more!
>>11474213>Ask yourself, do you think it will be easier or harder to get Fright Zone once you have Dragstor and how much you will regret missing itAll I can say in response to that is that I skipped Snake Mountain for the same rationale, and regret over skipping it has yet to sink in (but Mattel also still hasn't announced the figures that the absence of which made me skip SM in the first place). So I really can't 100% say.
Two years of no regret missing Snake Mountain makes me think maybe I won't give a shit missing Fright Zone, but since I don't know if I'll regret it after they ever finish the EWs, I guess we'll have to see since Snake Mountain probably isn't obtainable anymore
>>11474213>It's literally coming with a Fright Zone.Yeah, not this one though.
Maybe I'm the weirdo but the pack-in creature is my least favourite aspect of the new FZ.
It doesn't help that it looks less like the creature from the box art of the vintage toy and more like the actual vintage toy, complete with the weird jank to it's proportions due to it being a latex hand puppet which makes it look more like the son of the creature from the vintage box art but with some kind of a birth defect
>>11474234>Great Black WizardI want him to be a Deluxe Rider with that armored horse in the Sharella minicomic. Taht way they can reuse the horse for Adora and Swift wind CC. Then a Transformed Swiftwind MC CGS exclusive. And ultimately a Frazetta Death Dealer collab.
>>11473765>STILL no sign of slime pit heman>5 years into the lineWTF
>>11473812Top Toys was also responsible for Camo Khan and Oolar.
>>11473830thinking about jt now you could probably get a decent zorak by pairing a merman head with king hiss legs and the standard heroic warrior body.
>>11474454one can hope Mattel's just holding him off to use him as the pack-in figure for the slime pit playset
>>11474516It would make the most sense
>>11474454I'll never get people being so hung up on this when we don't even have a Slime Pit. There's literally no sense in making Slime Man before then regardless of how easy he is
>>11474632I wish there was ever adaptiation of MOTU that shows how fucked up Man-E's head is under the helmet.
>>11474552Classics had a slime pit He-Man with no slime pit
Mystery Minis had a slime pit He-Man with no slime pit
Reaction made a slime pit He-Man with no slime pit
World's Smallest made a slime pit He-Man with no slime pit
Loyal Subjects made a slime pit He-Man with no slime pit
Funko made a slime pit He-Man pop with no slime pit
Funk made a slime pit He-Man Soda pop with no slime pit
Etc.
Wasn't going to get snake Shredder but he was still regular price on Walmart's site and I'm going to try for the SDCC exclusive so I'd like the parts to swap with it. Been wanting Necro for awhile but didn't pull the trigger, he was $3 more than BBTS but I got free shipping for grabbing both. A very snakey day.
>>11474976Necro's cool, I just wish his snout stuck out more. Feels too blunt.
>>11475039I don't know if I'll use his head often, it works with the tail body but it's hard to get the hood to stay positioned and not cover the face and I'd want to use the hood with it on a human style body. I mostly just get characters like these for parts because I like swapping them around. And they both show a lot of potential already just between the two of them, but I'll have to get creative to make something with the snake head I'd be satisfied with.
>>11475072Necro-Shredder looks so much better than the retail version wow
>>11474952Yeah but other than those times we've never seen slimed he-man without the Slime Pit
>>11474552I don't get why people are so obsessed with a shitty redeco that wasn't even in the vintage line. I'd be fine with it coming with the Slime Pit, but there is no way I'd pay money for the figure as a single release.
>>11475117He had a pretty badass reveal back in the mini comics so maybe its nostalgia
>>11475072Well CRAP, I like how that looks!
>>11475163That's the only time slime pit He-Man has ever come with a slime pit. That's also only the third slime pit MotU toy Mattel ever made, so that means two-thirds of slime pit He-Man figures never came with a slime pit.
>>11474454He is definetly being held back for when the Slime Pit gets made. It would be weird to have him solo and equally weird to not come with the Slime Pit.
>>11475202 There were also 2 versions of that He Man.
One was Translucent, one was a solid green.
>>11473801>>11473812>I would buy this.If they included a second green torso and turned his back up head green I'd pick this up in Origins.
>>11474234Stick to the adapting Axel, the Skeletons, Frog Monger and Reptilax are the only good designs on that shelf. I don't understand how this random illustrator somehow managed to find himself working on MOTU designs for Mattel. I know it's all subjective, so if his bosses and enough fans are happy I guess we'll be seeing more, but that front row of his OC's and all his random Snek swaps have done nothing for me.
>>11474632Man-E looks like Rocky Horror
>>11474352>Maybe I'm the weirdo but the pack-in creature is my least favourite aspect of the new FZ.You're not alone, I would of loved a large scale beast based on the Norem poster designs but this weird little cutie monster is probably all we'll see in Origins. At least it's a fun pack in that can hang out with Moaty I guess.
Since we're all on a big slime kick, these are all the things I think should be MANDATORY to come backed with Slime Pit:
>Alternate head based on concept art
>Detachable Greco-Roman ruins diorama base
>Slime Pit He-Man
>Slime Trooper (x1 or x2)
>Slime monster mini figure
Maybe s couple optional pack-ins, but only if you could get away with more and not creep over the cost Fright Zone goes for
>>11475292See, if the creature looked like THAT instead of a member of the Habsburg family, I'd like it a lot better
>>11475292That'd be way cooler
>>11474952Classics had everyone.
Other lines are very heavily reliant on repaints.
>>11475202>That's also only the third slime pit MotU toy Mattel ever made, so that means two-thirds of slime pit He-Man figures never came with a slime pit.I hope you're not including Classics Slime He-Man because Super7 made that...and they didn't make it until 2019, which was 10 years into Classics life cycle, so why complain now that there's no Origins Slime Man when we're only 5 years in?
And Minis He-Man's display box WAS his Slime Pit. (We could quibble and split hairs about whether or not that counts)
>>11469098 (OP)>will you be getting fright zone? For $140cad? Fuck no lmao, that shit was always a mid set, and it really does not seem to come with enough to justify the price when it's more expensive than the other two somehow.
>>11469974Someone said the snake lair should be able to be attached to the bottom of snake mountain to combine into an even bigger mountain and that's honestly such a good idea it's no wonder Mattel never thought of it.
>>11472530"Slimepit playset with bonus green cumulon monster!"
>>11475549>really does not seem to come with enough to justify the price when it's more expensive than the other two somehow.I chalk that all up to the creature
If it was a stand alone release, you know they'd charge like $30 for it.
You subtract that $30 and the creature from the rest of the playset and it's $60. So just the playset itself with no creature costs less than Snake Mountain for less of a playset.
Not trying to justify the cost, just stating why I think it costs what it does. They're using the creature as an excuse to charge more.
>>11475571That and this doesnโt seem to be mass retail. Itโs easier to keep the price low when they know Walmart and Amazon are buying a couple thousand of it right away.
Preorders for Fright Zone, wave two of Thundercats and the Bow/Whiplash/Shadow Weaver wave are all up on BBTS
How is the Fright Zone possibly sold out already
>>11475709I have club grayskull but id dint even order from mattelcreations, it made more sense to order on BBTS. They killed free shipping on MC
>>11475709Never underestimate the power of "I GOTTA GET IT FIRST!"
>>11474712The 200x episode where Beast Man could control Man E Face when he had the beast head was pretty cool. I always wish we had a variant of him with a green and silver body go match the other faces too.
>>11475709It's not. MC was doing FOMO for CGS false scarity marketing. Making collectors think it's the only place to get it. I have one on BBTS since $4 shipping is better than whaterever it on MC for this thing. If an Amazon, Target, Walmart, EE listings goes up, I'll cancel BBTS and wait for it to go on sale.
So Marlena toon version could be easily done. I wouldn't mine Randor as well.
>>11475709Idk, you can have the one im not ordering if you need it. I dont have space for any of the displays, even my vehicles are boxed up.
Planning in gettung the new cc figures, and ill go for this second thundercats wave but after that im going to leave the cross over stuff alone and just go back to the more vintage aligned figures. Unless the thundercats start rolling out vulture man and the villians. So far, only tc he man and skell ra are the only ones that are exciting to me. Especially that he man , he gives my imagination a real jolt 9f head cannon stories.
Another week, another match interruption
>>11474352No, you're not alone.
This is another toy/set that would be perfect but has that one single glaring flaw. in this case, yes, it's the dragon being too small. It's happening all too often lately.
>>11475776>This is another toy/set that would be perfect but has that one single glaring flawThis was me with Snake Mountain
>snake looked nothing like the OG snakeI was all for adding articulation and increasing the size, but it still should have looked right.
Classics and MCX got it wrong too
Literally only the WWE crossover ring did the snake right
>>11475709Just as I said that stuff on MC doesn't sell out anymore.
Welp, Im eating crow.
>>11475732I also ordered from BBTS but 1) unlike MC, they actually ship to my country, and 2) my middleman is just a fellow fan so it'd probably cost like $90 for him to mail it to me while BBTS gets a business discount or something and costs only half that much, even on fedex
Plus I can use PoL to grab some additional figures to go with it
>>11475475Hey! That was the slime trooper figure I designed for them!

>>11475814>>11475820A whole lot of them, I was a consultant/designer/sculptor. Some like Mattel and NECA just wanted ideas and prototypes and others like Hasbro and Capcom wanted actual sculpts.
>>11475475What mini comic is my Slime Trooper in anyway?
>>11475973Hey thanks! I'll go pick one up, forgot he even came out.
>>11475963You are so full of shit. Nothing you've ever said has been true.

Question, you guys don't actually think that's the real Jin Saotome do you, like, it's just someone posting with that as their name larping, anyone can do that
>>11476217Cool story bro. The only person who would use my name is me.
>>11476399And here's some MOTU!
>>11476408Ignore the Mouser about to snap half the rats into non-existence
Next Masterverse wave may be New Eternia Mosquitor, Mantenna and AE He-Man
>>11476415>Mouser about to snap half the rats into non-existenceLol
The Mouser might have a glove or shoe fetish!
>>11476399Go drybrush some unicron hips, nerd.
>>11476399in retrospect Im surprised you never used Faker Cena to make a MOTUO Crystar.
Are you working on much these days? Seems like the custom scene slowed down alot since the mid 2010s.

>>11476675Ive grown to enjoy the mr t cartoon.
>>11476630Wait....I've heard this before. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN.
>>11476668That's a great idea! I have one in the parts bin.

>>11476809Well Im glad you still dabble in toys. I really admire your body of work. You largely stand unparalleled even now. Seems like all pf yesteryear's greats have disappeared.
Do you think with 200X line we'll get a new slouched buck for guys like Beast Man?
>>11477057No. I think his removable armor will be a massive hump to give the illusion of slumping on the basic buck
>>11476399You are such an obvious troll
>>11476907I'll try to remove it and report back.
>>11476945Hey, thank you. I want to inspire people. I still answer questions and post fixes, guides, just want to help people out.
>>11476945>>11477111Holy fuck, nobody believes that was anything else but you taking off your trip to respond to yourself. You self glazing shit.

>>11477057No, i dont think origins will ever get that far. Cc is doing its thing and weve got cross overs going and then the mc stuff but then theres still the idea of the sketch book stuff. So idk if we could get any of the spin offs yet.
Wtf are you discord trannies going on about now? I don't know who Jin Saotome is but this is all very unpleasant to read. At least his posts about the Slime Trooper could have been interesting.
>why are these generals so dead
Hey Jin, what do you think of all the snakes? When you are empathizing with people, do you use the proper Queen's English?
>>11477259CC is ending bro
All the leaks are saying 200x is the new refresh after the current lot of figures.
Maybe you'll get lucky and toonshit can get the vintage treatment of like 2 figures a year on Matty going forward, but 200x is the new meat and potatoes of Origins going forward.
>>11477318>empathizingIt's EMPHASIZING, get it right
>>11477247Crimson Commander did the same thing
I got my Sharellas in the mail
Also looking forward to the new CC wave with Bow, Shadow Weaver, and Whiplash.
How many characters are there in the He-Man franchise?! It seems like there's a hundred or more.
>>11477353There's a little more than 60 in just the vintage line alone. It's easily way more than 100 when you factor in cartoons and comics and Golden books and the movie and Revelation and Axel's OCs...and that's not even touching PoP or NA...
>>11477117>>11477147Awwww, did I get your widdle egoo all butthurt? Did you get get your itty bitty nose shoved in your own shit? Awww yes you did, yes you did! Lmao
Is that anon still here who is collecting every Origins on card (including every variant)?
>>11477433You're not only a cringe liar, you're a newfag to how this board works too.
>>11477321I am filled with emphasthy .
>>11477321Thanks for emphatically emphasizing how empathizing you can be.
Out of all the discord trannies ITT (you) are the most passable.
According to Toyhabits next Thundercats wave is Panthor Man...Lion-O and Panthor.
Well, that's let-down. Wonder if we're getting another deluxe like Skell-Ra.
>>11477915>lion-o again alreadythis doesn't bode well for getting the rest of the cast
>>11477968The Thundercats never really had a lot going on outside of the cats and mutants. I don't see them ever doing anything based like berbils or Driller.
>>11477915Panthro Man is great, but I was hoping for Kitt and Wylicat at least. Don't need new entire molds, just use the shorter female buck and the CC Mantenna toso and limb parts.
>>11477977Yeah, but that's still 5 of the cats and snarf to do and we're getting a lion-o repaint already
>>11477319I hadnt read that the cc stuff was winding down, some of the figures were decent but some of them like trap jaw ive already bought several times in various versions. I did read that 200X was coming so thats cool, i had a few a freds had on deep discount and i really enjoyed the look of them. 200X skeletor and he man came out decently in origins.
>>11478026I'm the minority here but I love how 200x He-Man turned out. It was a better updated head than the wave 1 Origins version.
>>11477915The MotU cats becoming humanoid is fun and all, but what I want is Origins Battle Cat repainted into Snowmeow.
>>11477977Thunderkittens
Snarf
Slithe, Jackalman, Vultureman and Monkian.
Ma-Mutt
Lynx-O, Pumyra and Bengali
Those are the only characters I could realistically see, And the last 3 are more for completion, you know if you put in everyone who matters and still have room you might add them.
I am curious now what kind of Lion-O and Panthro variant they will try to sell us.
How many new parts you expect on Panthor Man?
>>11478141I'm still annoyed I only ever managed to pick up a single 2-pack of the skeleton warriors
>Jin's deadNice
>>11478141Wish I'd ordered this set
>>11478031I like it too, im all for 200x but those figures have angles and shapes that maybe the origins body cant replicate. I just kinda think 200X would be better served in masterverse. Hell, maybe just doing a good few 200X heavy waves or j7st one figure per wave could help drum up intrest in that line.
I really havent been excited for a he man in a while, stealth ninja was a nice suprise like but this thundercat he man looks great in pictures.
>>11475292They could always do a deluxe version later on. Name it something else or make it part of another crowd fund. I guess.
>>11478141Now black light it
>>11478757I sometimes wonder if the result of the snake lair will ultimately cost us another crowd fund.
Hypothetically, if the fandom had accepted last year's set, and the preorders were done, we'd be close to it shipping now in the next couple months, and Mattel would probably be gearing up to run another vote for the next crowd fund.
But this set back means that the earliest we could probably see Snake Lair shipping is mid to late 2026, meaning another crowd fund probably wpuldnt even start until 2027, and will Origins still even have legs then? Because if it doesn't, and it ends or at least starts winding down, then Snake Lair will be the last where we could've potentially gotten one more.
>>11478517So far the Thunder Cat He-Man and Battlecat are the only ones I'm planning on getting. He-Man reminds me of the Wolf Armor He-Man from 200x toy line. I might get Skell-Ra but the shelf is full of Skeletors already....
Did you get the Stranger Things version? I really like how he came out. If only he had a normal shield that would have been the definitive He-Man for me.
As for 200x in Origins I think that without getting into body types, most of the characters have enough differences in their clothes/ deco that you could adapt those changes. I was looking at He-Man last night and his armor, weapons and paint colors are unique enough that he doesn't need the animated proportions to read as 200x.
>>11479189I guess that depends on if the set actually sells well after the demands to change it. If they went through the trouble and it's a dud? Eh...
>>11479283Nta but curious what other players people would want?
I'd like to see Mordor from New Adventure scaled up but I recognize that is a pipe dream.
Maybe Snake Mountain devolved back into the jungle playsetbwould be funny.
>>11479288There's only three potential crowd funds I'd support
Sketchbook haunted castle...
>>11479323...Gigantisaur....
>>11479325...and Macy's Parade float
>>11479323Holy shit that would be incredible. Ok yeah this would be a great choice.
Gigantisaur is just so huge, shelfspace is already an issue. I'd probably back it but it would be one of those late night, Daddy's had a couple beers and feels like throwing money around type of backings.
>>11479189>will Origins still even have legs then?Unrelated to your post- why do people keep assuming Origins is going to die sometime in the next year or two? Same for CC? Rumors? Or did Mattel say something I missed?
We still have awhile to go to fulfill their promise of getting us all the original figures. And they are dragging their feet in the mean time, which to me points to them wanting this line to keep going for a long time. And the movie is comig soon, so why would they kill it then?
>>11479356Residual Scottposting mindset perhaps.
>>11479356I assume it will just because I expect fatigue to set in with Origins, either among fans supporting it, Mattel wanting to keep it up or try something new or retailers not supporting it
We are 5 years in, about to enter year 6. That's a long time for a most toy lines, so one or two more years until the end isnt and unrealistic assumption
Even Classics, which still has a handful whining for more and has people heralding it as the pinnacle of MotU, only lasted 8 years before Mattel pulled the plug (and then squirted out 3 more waves over 3 years via the auspices of Super7, but I'm not gonna assume that'll happen again).
Now, I wanna clarify I don't think Origins dying means MotU dies. And I think the movie will come and go before Origins gets the plug pulled. But I do think that the movie and the rumored new kids cartoon are Mattel getting their ducks in a row knowing they can't rely on Origins indefinitely, so try to have new avenues in place so they can continue the brand in a new form when the current line runs it's course. I'm not looking at it doomeristically, but just being real about it. Even if you're optimistic, you can't expect Origins to last more than 3-5 more years, not if you're being honest with yourself.
>>11479364Understandable. The way I see it is they will do a few more collaborations like TMNT and Thundercats. In fact, I could see them bring back TMNT in the future.
We still are missing many Princess of Power figures, some R, quite a lot of CC figures, and then more Preternia and 200x figures. And then you have the characters from the comics, Classics, and the OC donut steels from the new main artist. And the Sketchbook series figures too. I could see an easy 3 or 4 more years, at least. I don't think people are tired of Origins or MotU per say imo.
It seems to me the fatigue is due to Mattel's bad distribution, inflation in general, and not prioritizing making the originals (seriously, where is Two-Bad?). I think Mattel knows they are playing the long game by not releasing the originals all at once. Otherwise they may lose peoples attention because they'll go 'welllll I got everyone I wanted, what other toys are out there?'. Instead they can go 'uhhh well what about this cool looking sketchbook Grizzlor?' when people ask where Dragstor is.
However, they really do need to announce a few originals here soon because it feels like its been too long. I want Dragstor soon please. I am still going to be collecting eirher way. The Sketchbook stuff is my new favorite line.
>>11479375>some RI meant to type some originals
Also I totally don't think you were doomposting or anything. It is just thay I see it that sentiment carried in these threads frequently and I can't help but think either I missed something or I can't see the bigger picture. I've been really enjoying the Origins figures, epsecially this year and last year so it ending anytime soon would surprise me. Just don't give us thousands of naked Stratos figures and we'll be good.
What would be your most wanted CC figure?
And just to make it hard - vintage one, do Zodac, Fisto, Mekaneck, Rattlor, Moss Man etc. Can't pick Icer or Batros.
>>11479525Kobra Khan
Like he's the ONLY missing important Evil Warriors, so he's more glaring than, say, Fisto, because even if you did make Fisto, you'll still miss Zodac, Mekaneck, Sorceress and Moss Man
From Toyhabits
>Get ready, Masters of the Universe fans! Weโve heard from two anonymous sources that big changes are on the horizon as Mattel is rebranding the beloved Masterverse line under an exciting new banner: Chronicles. This fresh identity is reported to be an update to the branding that kicked off in 2021 and will continue to explore the lore of Eternia. This information also lines up with what was shared at a the Mattel Booth at the May edition of London Comic Con 2025 as they are โrelaunching the Masterverse lineโ and making figures focused on the movies. Kicking off this new era in spine-tingling style is none other than Scareglow, who will appear as the first figure under the โMovie Chroniclesโ branding.
Scare Glow kicking off the movie line when he's not even announced for the movie? Wut?
If this isn't bullshit, I feel like there's a missing puzzle piece
>>11479578 Skeletor will die and become ScareGlow.
>>11479578I just want NE Teela man
>>11479605She's confirmed next wave with Kobra Khan and Hordak, ain't she?
>>11479525Dragoooooooooooon
>>11479525Evil seed or plundor
My memory of the cartoon are limited to watching it on qubo with my kid when she was 2-3 years old.
>>11479273>shelf full of skellyYeah, ive got an entire book case jammed packed with origins stuff and plenty more in storage. But i missed the stranger things he man, dunno why or how i missed it since im pretty faithful when my mattel tithes but ill guess my money was in a pinch. I really like the battlefield warriors head, i think its since been reused on flying fists he man.
Sketchbook Hordak and Grizzlor are clearanced to $20 at Target
>>11479605Do you mean "NE Teela, man" or Teela-Man like a gender swap?
>>11479762Poeple roll their eyes with this sketchbook series. But i think that is a good way to,establish new characters. You can use them for additional Horde troops.
>>11479762Anons were speculating why fans get burnt out on Origins. Stories like this are why. I was so hyped for Hordak and it's cost prohibitive to track him down in leafland.
>>11479525Vintage only? Sorceress!
Moss Man would be nice too
>>11479822Why can't Hordak include a bonus normal arm?
>>11479835It's pretty egregious if CC DOESNT do Sorceress. She's one of the "three others share this secret" and as such she probably deserves a little more consideration than most of what they did put out
>>11479762Mine were $14.99 and the TMNT playset was down to $39.99
What new parts do you expect on Panthor Man? He can't just be BC Man repaint, right?
>>11479911>the cat that's a straight repaint of Battle Cat can't possibly be a straight repaint of Battle Cat, right? You didn't think that through, didja?
>>11479944Which is why all new designs of Evil-Lyn are just Teela from neck down? And no one ever made Faker with new head or weapons from He-Man?
>>11479911New head and at least some of the armor.
>>11479958None of which is a reason to just expect Panthor Man to do that.
Sure, they MIGHT, but, when you're coming at it from "he CANT just be a repaint" stance, you're assuming it's a forgone conclusion that they will, when it's actually probably LESS likely for him to have new pieces than it is to be a straight repaint.
>>11479326Inspired choice, could even cause a market for Float collecting
>>11479762$14.98 at mine but still not that interested.
>>11479911new head, new helmet, skeletor's terror claws
>>11479762>>11479762>>11480069Meanwhile I'm a Europoor who actually likes figures like this and Pig Head and they were hard to find.
I'd rather have more motu vintage styled donutsteels and weird prototypes than weird crossovers.
>>11480205Remember when Europe single handedly carried the MOTU brand near the end because it was such a huge market? Mattel doesn't.
>>11479843Because that would please customers too much. I dont mind that. He is envisioned as having a weapons arm. But i agree that they gave Grizzlor claws is a reason to give him an extra hand for his bionic arm too.
>>11480029How many straight-up repaints Origins lately released? They usually at least rearange around parts to make them look new. This is a big shiny crossover with extra budget on bucks and parts - for example, counting each armor piece, RW Donatello came with 16 accessories. There is no room here for Red Lion-O repaint, we have limited number of figures that will be released. And Battle Cat Man is arguably one of biggest attractions here.
Battle Cat and Panthor actually look a little different since one has a face-obscuring helmet and one is flocked but even if, they're just big cats. But now as humanoids, with numerous armor parts and more-detailed face Panthor will just look like Battle Cat's evil clone - which he's isn't unlike Faker. New crowds that this crossover is trying to attract might not be sold on them being twins just because that's how we liked it back in vintage.
I mean, I expect 70-80% of him to be the same but maybe head or helmet could change? Even chest armor is arguable since it's very He-Many in design. (of course logo change is almost given)
>>11480643MOTU is like one of maybe three 80s nostalgic franchises that has any legs in my country at all and Mattel decided we don't matter because MC won't ship here either
>>11480659At the very least I expect Panthor man to have a new head and a helmet.
I know it's nothing worth making a post about but I really dont ever get tired of seeing vintage partswaps. They're always very imaginitive and SOVLFVL. Somehow Beastman passes for a heroic warrior with MEF's arms and MEF himself really stands out with grizzlor arms in turn.
>>11479843Snag the arm from the TMNT motu Hordak with the wings. Arm is blue and everything
>>11482122Sketchbook Hordak
>>11482151Oooh, thought you were talking about why normal Hordak never came with a bonus gun-arm. Hmmmm, ok yeah I'd like a pale-zombie henchman guy with two normal arms too. Guess I gotta repaint one.
>>11482151Went ahead and bought this today and also lucked into finding some new Superstars figs so I had some fun doing swaps. I call this guy Anaglyph.

>>11469098 (OP)yea, i think we're gonna need these two as sketch art exclusives.
This recipe is pretty neat.
Are there any MotU Origins figures with an all white base body? I think its only Slamurai, is that right?
>>11483012Only Slamurai. Prince Adam has white arms and chest. Shawn Michaels (HBK) from WWE Superstars has a white lower half and white vest
>>11483022Ah, thank you anon!
>>11481421>SOVLFVLWhat kind of autist talks like this?
Mattel's SDCC itinerary this year:
July 24th: Mattel Creations Comic Book panel to discuss upcoming Mattel based comic universes (including MotU)
July 25th: Masters of the Universe design panel
July 26th: Mattel Creations design panel (MotU, Monster High, WWE, Jurassic Park, Hot Wheels)
>>11483335Man I wish I was writing those comics. Since 2020 I've been writing scrips and jotting down story ideas.
>>11483092To be fair I also see it a lot in the Lego threads.
>>11483092retarded fucking zoomers that can't speak English
>>11479238Sinno fucker

>>11482587seconded. actually makes fangman desirable
>>11482532I'd buy Skeletor but only if they make the dinosaur head removable and you can replace it with any Origins head.
>>11483415Low key, I think im more hyped for the comic panel than the toy panel.
I already know the toy panel is only gonna be one or two vintages, retail is just gonna hit "reset" on rereleasing the main cast again via 200x, I don't buy MV or crossovers and I don't have much hope for Sketchbook Series actually delivering non-variant any time soon (or at all), so I'm not exactly aquiver with anticipation for the toy reveals.
I asked about a lawler and vince match a few threads ago. So that anon i offer up a match with atleast one never ever wwe superstar figure.

In case anyone got curious about ric flair figures they bought at ollies
>>11484052DESU, Im getting twitchy waiting for SDCC. It feels like forever. And I still want to see toys most. Most of the random motu minis lately didn't grab me and we'll never get a proper ongoing comic.
As for toys, maybe there are still surprises? Vintages are for sure but how many, which ones, is it finally Two-Bad? Is there any more CC or are done? If Thundercats are really variants next then what are they, how do try to make them good? Does 200X translates well to Origins, do they spark joy or does Mattel attempt to restart main characters again fails? Im curious like that.
Besides we almost run out of releases that were already announced, we need something.
>>11484052Yeah I agree. 200x is fine but I'm really, really not interested in the main cast ince again. Maybe if they were taking the route of doing some of the random supporting characters who would be totally new to 5.5".
As for the comics, it's gonna be bittersweet. I don't have a lot of faith that they will be good.
>>11484429I dunno if this is gonna be a hot take or not, but 200x is the one branch of MotU that I think has no worthwhile original characters, so even if they did include a random supporting character new to 5.5, it's not gonna change my opinion on it.
The refresh will only be good for spare parts for my vintage figures at best, like maybe a new head for Stinkor, or a Doomseeker for Tri-klops, or spider leg backpack for Webstor
>>11484446I mostly agree with you. It's weird because I really liked the 200x He-Man they did in Origins already, but mostly because I think it was a good update for him that didn't need to be 200x specifically.
But if they were going to do 200x, the best I can hope for is the yeti guy, Marzo, that rock guy? Oh the Sorceress would be a good one because she's actually a new design. Otherwise it's a pass like 90% of CC was.
Honestly most of 200x could be served with a weapons/head pack.
New Adventures is where they should be going.
>>11484446There's one original character I hope they make.
>>11484461>New Adventures is where they should be goingWe both know that would never fly
No core cast members, which is all Mattel has faith in and the bulk of the fan base wants to buy
Even most of the people who DO advocate for NA actually just mean "I like Optikk (and sometimes Slush Head)". How often do I see from the same breath people saying "they need to do NA...but yeah all the Guardians suck and are boring"?
Taking the full line in the direction of NA would be basically asking to tank the line completely to appease an extremely small minority.
If you're a genuine NA fan, I do emphasize with you. I like and want shit that's equally unlikely to get made. But your shit, like my shit, would really be better served in just cherry picking some the more desireable ones and slipping them in here and there as MC or Target or BBTS exclusives, because that's the best we're gonna get.
(I've always advocated for just outright scrap the NA story and setting and locations and just reimagining Optikk and others worth salvaging as Eternian Heroic or Evil Warriors or Hordesmen)
>>11484482You are talking to the original NAfag. Since 2020 I've been advocating that it's not as bad as it's reputation suggestions.
It's not perfect, but for myself I just headcannon that it's all about Dare, He-Mans kid and a lot of the major issues evaporate. The show is enjoyable.
And I'd be totally OK with cherry picking. We don't need to wishlist it out (unless you want to) but I could see there being enough characters for a wave or 2. L
>>11484482Also who are your "never evers"? I'd wish for the Golden Book / Lady Bird characters, Scrollos and Songster (the heralds of the almighty Standor.)
>>11484442I feel like an idiot because I have spent the last couple hours thinking this was a MOTU crossover with Jem and the Holograms only to just realise this is She-Ra and Star vs. The Forces of Evil.
And I was thinking if you're gonna go Jem and the Holograms, why not go further and crossover MOTU with Sailor Moon, and then I realised you'd probably get the failed Saban Sailor Moon cartoon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA2VOuqaOnk
>>11484482>I've always advocated for just outright scrap the NA story and setting and locations and just reimagining Optikk and others worth salvaging as Eternian Heroic or Evil Warriors or HordesmenI agree with this sentiment. And throw in all of the cool characters from the 1996 Son of He-Man pitch while we are at it. I always post Bug-Eye, so I'm gonna post Missile Toe for a change.
Just leave out the shit that Scott added. I have no interest in Skeleteen.
>>11484546>SkeleteenI love how he looks...like something from Return of the Living Dead. But everything else, especially his name is pure coal.
If you could remake NA, how would you salvage each character?
>>11484515>who are your "never evers"The Ted Mayer sketch OCs
Shezar
Kex Queen (specifically with big googly muppet eyes like she and all the males of her species had in the minicomic ... because I get the feeling that IF they made her, they'd either give her a conventionally pretty human face or bug eyes like the few fan artists that draw her seem to do. I think Revelation did that too with some background Kexes)
>>11484546>Called Missle-toe>has no cannons on his feet at all.I know the name is a pun, but god dammit.
>>11484592...like this face for example. This does not spark joy and this would be a monkey pawed Kex Queen
>>11484594The actual series bible for SoH implies he DOES have missiles in his feet with the way it's worded
That pic is just Axel axeling up the design since no official image actually showed his lower body
>>11484594They should have called Frog Monger Missile Toad. Instead of a Buck Rogers Jet pack, he had a missile to launch on his back.
>>11484597She's a good choice. I'll have to check my mini comic later to see if there is a better look at her head. That one picture is small and very much open to interpretation.
>>11484588>fix NAEveryone is a snake now. You're welcome.
>>11484588Whats wrong with new adventures?
>>11484607>very much open to interpretation.I got you on pics sempai, because we see her face 3 times.
You are not wrong about open to interpretation because she's not drawn consistently. But here's my interpretation and pitch:
The first two times we see her she's struggling in an energy field, her eyes could be closed as she's in pain or exerting herself
The last panel she's definitely NOT in any kind of potential pain or struggle, and even if it's small, the eyes clearly match how the males (also pictured) are consistently drawn , so to me, that's how she looks.
I get why someone might disagree and view it different, saying the first two panels are her normal eyes, but I personally dislike the idea of her not being toony eyed. It makes her stand out amongst other MotU women that all mostly have normal faces
>>11484623Ok I'm convinced. It would be nice to get some monster women in Motu. It is kind of against the odds that every single female on the planet is a total smokeshow.
And I wouldn't even say the Queen is a never ever. More like a long shot. But Keldor got made, and people seem to like her on here. Maybe you are the same anon who always posts her but she gets (you)s.
Maybe her gimmick is her eyes look normal until you squeeze her tummy and then they pop out.
>>11469098 (OP)i need it but i don't know if i have enough room anymore. i also need to import it.
>>11484610What's good about guys like Kayo, Nocturna or Vizar?
>>11484770Karate kick. Camouflage and military visor trooper.
>>11484772>>11484793>>11484793And I wanted a GI Joe figure I bet, I would love it
>>11484618I'm just realizing how insanely easy she'd be in Origins that they'd be fools NOT to make her
>90% just the "nude" CC female buck>New head, new two toed monster woman feet>Wings and collar and be realized as a single piece, cape style>Only weapon was whip, can be reused from Beast Man
>>11484109Not sure we're even allowed girls at this point since the "XXX will be revealed soon using MOTU CC female buck" never seems to happen. Blayze would be great if Medusa didn't own her own likeness rights which she licensed to Powertown. Bull Nakano would a dream but we'd need a fat female buck. Would that maybe cover Madame Razz?
>>11485101Hogan's weight belt is on backwards, ya jabroni.
>>11485139Well aware, wanted "Hollywood" showing in the pic instead of more black
>>11484583He is very reminiscent of Suicide from the RotLD poster. I'm sure I would have loved a mohawked punker Skeletor as a kid/teen, but I'm old and jaded now.
>>11484605I don't blame Axel for this. He had to follow the design brief from Scott during MOTUC which would have been "make these characters with the least amount of new tooling possible." I don't even blame Scott either. It was the execs at Mattel treating MOTU like their red headed stepchild.
>>11484607>They should have called Frog Monger Missile ToadThis sometimes keeps me awake a night. What a missed opportunity.
>>11485254Aww come on Anon. You can never be to old and jaded for 80s radical style.
Maybe an artist anon can draw us the RotLD poster with Skeleteen and...Tesla? Evil Lyn as the woman in the red dress.
I didn't know the ones on the poster had names.
>>11485254>>11485527Scuz was the punk with the mohawk, not Suicide.
Neither of them came back as zombies in the movie, so I don't think the zombies on the poster are meant to be characters in the movie, just generic zombies
The one in the dress doesn't match Trash and none of the other girls died at all
>>11485530Thanks for the lesson. Who needs AI?
But I might have to watch this again this weekend. It's been a good 15-20. Maybe as a double feature with Repo Man.
Bringing this back to Motu, sorta. I wish someone would make new Savage World type horror crossovers. But less fragile.
With Mattel DC next year, you think they would go ahead and make these for Origins? Likely be CGS exclusive though.
>>11485530All of the recent merch refer to the two on the poster as Suicide and Trash. The Super7 Reaction figures and the NECA retro cloth two pack both call them that. I know what happened in the movie, and I am just calling them that for simplicity's sake because that seems to be what the IP owners told both companies to name them. To me they were just the RotLD poster zombies when I was a kid.
>>11485639I hope so. Warlord has 1/100 the profile he had in the 80s, but if the Origins team knew about Sun Man, they know about this line.
(Yeah yeah that was a huge DEI year, but also Yla Eason would have been easy and inexpensive to work with, unlike the poorly documented Sungold or expensive WB).
>>11485639I love the Remco stuff. Collecting them is a pain in the ass due to that fragile plastic they use for clothing.
And I know he's not Warlord but the Thulsa Doom from the Conan line is one of my grails. Would love to have him on my shelf.
I get the Thundercats crossover is strictly MOTU X Thundercats original, but I feel like it's a missed opportunity not to use the 2011 designs for the armour pieces they wear.
>>114857472011 was a 1 season show, no one really remembers it. It would have been like using the TMNT Rise designs for the ToGS collab.
>>11485759>2011 was a 1 season show, no one really remembers it.I thought it was well-regarded.
>>11485927It's really, really not.
>>11485952That's a bummer. Is Thundercats cursed? 1 season of 2011, and then Thundercats Roar!
>>11486177On the one hand I think it'd be interesting to see shows like Thundercats get a new series every couple years the same way TMNT does. Basically every generation of kids gets their own version, but given how bad everything has become, it's probably for the best that it doesn't.
>>11486155Dude, your photo is tripping me out. Is the armour on your figure actually copper or is it just a quirk of the picture?
>>11485927>>11485952It was always seen as something that had amazing potential, but shit the bed so hard after those initial few episodes. Just so much went wrong behind the scenes with that series and the network itself did the show no favors that it literally never had a chance.
>>11486177>Is Thundercats cursed? No more than TMNT or MOTU with shit like Rise/Mutant Mayhem and Revelations. It's just that so many modern creatives are hacks.
>>11485952Honestly just seems like alot of the oldfags were infuriated by the Tygra/Cheetarah/Lion-O love triangle. The toy sales took a nose dive off a cliff mid season because of that stupid dynamic too. It's such a shame because the show still has some high points. The designs were well done and the toys hold up well too, but it just didnt take. The early 2010's basically saw the death of the action figure cartoon. Turtles was the one major exception.
>>11486180I couldnt relate anymore if I tried. I wish we could have been so lucky, but just about every attemot made in the early 2010's imploded and was subsequently replaced by a much worse "timely" alternative. Voltron Force to Legendary Defender being another great example of that. I just wanted to enjoy my /toy/ cartoons bros...
>>11486181Nah, it's plastic.
Got a big package from bbts out for delivery today. Gonna be a good night, smoke a big joint and play with Hemans.
>>11486659Sorry I should have been more specific, is the plastic copper coloured?
>>11486436>Turtles was the one major exception.I think Turtles works because the four brothers, Splinter, and Shredder have a really solid fundamental dynamic that allows for variation without loosing what makes it recognisable, so what ends up happening is basically every version just acts as a style refresh for the toys. Even if you don't care for or have never seen a particular incarnation of TMNT, the figures probably still work. I didn't think Mutant Mayhem was spectacular, but I still bought a bunch of the figures because the figures themselves were really well done. I didn't even intend to, I just grabbed Raph because he's my favourite and was so impressed by the figure I ended up buying the whole team.
>>11486849I got one too, just came by to say how nice the mirror that cc grizzlor comes with is. Very reflective. I wanted to cancel fang man but im glad i didnt, im waiting for beer o'clock to open cc orko and tog hiss.
Unrelated but im pretty sure ill be getting the walmart con wwe transparent u cant see me john cena tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works out but you know how things go with toy collectors and wwe fans.
Is the Cartoon Collection She-Ra modular like the rest of the MOTU figures? Specifically is the head removeable? I want to swap the head onto the previous Origins She-Ra figure but it feels like I might snap the neck if I pull on it too hard.
>>11487147Yes, she is modular
Sometimes heads are just too tight.
Like my Kronis' neck snapped, and there's no question he's modular
It's been 8 years and I still cant believe this is real.
>>11487176I really don't think that was anywhere near a finished product
For Aus anons, where is the best place to get MOTU figures? Because everywhere around me (near Melbourne) are all over the place in terms of stock.
>>11485516Missed the toothbrush on first view.
anybody know how well origins fit on the biker mice from mars nacelle bikes?
>>11486952There is surprisingly strong core here. Turtles being raised by master Splinter, taught ninjitsu to survive, makes for a solid story fundation compared where most of action figures teams are just elite squad of crime fighters or random kids get powers, decide to fight baddies. Turtles arent overcomplicated or overdesigned, once you get over idea presented in title, they're almost grounded. Each having different color and weapon of choice feels natural enough without being gimmicky. And ninja clan in modern day is outlandish enough to be interested yet feels more convincing and moldable than "mad scientist wants to take over the world".
Look also at names. Being named after famous artists may sound silly but many 80/90 heroes have much sillier or more generic names. Further we have Splinter, April, Shredder, Krang, Bebob, Rocksteady, Casey, Traag, Leatherhead, Rat King...it takes a while to reach characters wil really goofy names like Sergeant Bananas. Compare to Street Sharks. Main heroes are called Ripster, Jab, Streex and BIG SLAMMU. One of main villains is Slobster. Side characters include Moby Lick. Try making more serious story with that.
Ironically one of best know merch franchise owns a lot of its strengths idea from comic that wasn't meant to sell toys.
How can i tell club greyskull i want new adventures instead of another cross over? We all know dc is just a matter of time.
>>11488074Thundercats was a good choice, but I do want NA He-Man more than starting 200X already
>>11487700Origins has an easier time scaling with the CGI series bikes and various TMNT vehicles than it does with Nacelle. Nacelle is closer to Masterverse/Classics scale.
Barbarian Brothers x Muscoloids when?
>>11488452Get the DC one out off your system and be done.
It's not that I dont like them but I want MOTU line to be MOTU and crossovers take precious space. Besides, we're running out of properties I give damn about.
>>11488452They should do a crossover with Jurassic Park or Dino-Riders and have a bunch of dinosaurs for He-man and co to ride.
Call it Powers of Grayskull or something.
>>11488912Make Powers of Grayskull Dino-Riders scale. Bring back the Mega Construx molds with dinosaurs instead of building bricks.
>>11488966I'm genuinely surprised no-one has tried to do a Dino-Riders revival in all the years since Jurassic World came out.
>>11488452PoP x Axel Braun.
>>11489092It's because Mattel has a working relationship with Universal (though both MOTU and Jurassic Park) and they dont want to jeopardize that by reviving potential competition to JP.
>inb4 Why doesnt universal adapt dino riders?that would simply make too much sense for hollywood
>>11488452Conan the Barbarian would be cool.
Thundercats is really the best one imo. I hope we get at least another wave after this next one.
I honestly don't want a DC one because they will probably take it too far and lose focus from MotU itself. If they did a wave or two making the Justice League then thats cool. I don't want 4 years of DC collabs with MotU though, you know?
>>11489092 Because if you have 2 markets for Dinosaurs then someone won't buy ALL the dinosaurs.
it would "dilute the market"
I know this makes no fucking sense and making both Dino Riders and JW / JP Dinos would cover more interests. But they are fucking dumb.
Also, Mattel might have to pay attention to making reasonable figures to go with the dinos - and not just the half-assed Jurrasic Park ones.
"Spend money to make money" Are you crazy? What would the shareholders say?
Found Snake Shredder at Ross for $12.99.
Never saw him at proper retail.
Got 2 of him.
>>11482304>BlastadonGreat name.
>>11482308>Death RattleThat's what I thought Necro Conda should have been named.
>>11488564Based suggestion. Too bad we'll never see it happen.
Question, what happened with all that hullabaloo about Mattel selling off MOTU or losing the rights or something, that was a big deal a couple years back? I got busy with other things and stopped following MOTU news for a while. Was that actually true? Is it still going ahead? What holds the future?
>>11488452Im surprised they went with a poll to decide this when they still have alot of obvious options starring them in the face.
>DC>Thundarr the Barbarian>Blackstarr>Bravestarr>Conan>Street Sharks>Fuerza T>Gi Joe>one of the other hundreds of bootleg lines
>>11489619I saw ToG Mek a Nek for the same price in my local store. It pisses me off because I've seen 3.99 Sun-men for the last 4 years. The price hike is bullshit.
>>11490053TLDR ; Nothing ever happens.
Scott was mostly fearmongering. As of now Universal doesnt really own MOTU wholesale, just pieces of it like Filmation She-ra and New Adventures. Mattel still owns the bulk of the property through the toys. In anycase they also have such a solid relationship with Mattel so it doesnt present much of a threat.
>What holds the future?Everything hinges on the success of the 2026 Travis Knight film. Amazon had plans for a new She-Ra show but its been so long now that nobody knows if its even still happening. If the Knight movie fails MOTU is kill.
>>11490124>one of the other hundreds of bootleg linesCan I just say that this part still feels unreal. Here we go, getting remake of big popular franchise Masters of the Universe when in the middle of it, super obscure frachise Rulers of Sun, that was gonefor years without sign of life, gets revived, gets all their figures remade, including figures that were never made before.
It would be as if Capcom announced they're taking a break from making Street Fighter games to release a remake and sequel to Galactic Warriors.
Once 200X line comes out, how hard do you think they'll lean into character variants like Ice Armor He-Man Or Battle Blade Skeletor?
>>11490124And don't forget Winnie the Pooh
>>11490138>Everything hinges on the success of the 2026 Travis Knight film.I want to be excited for the film, because Travis Knight has a good track record, but I really hate a lot of the cast, specifically Leto as Skeletor, and Idris Elba and Man-at-Arms.
I might still go purely because He-Man needs a win though.
>>11490176Seriously though, why Jared Leto for Skeletor?
>>11490176Willem Dafoe would have been a much more fitting choice too. I'd have even settled for a curveball like Steve Buscemi or John C. McGinley. Leto just brings nothing to the table. He's a blqck hole in terms of charisma and star power, and Elba is no different in that sense either. Nick Offerman is sort of lame nowadays but he at least looked the part of Duncan.
>>11490175You jest but I'd be down for it. Imagine an entire wing of origins dedicated to just public domain pulls for shits and giggles.
>>11490163I imagine they'll lean into it hard. Origins is no stranger to variants of those two, and god knows neither was the 200X lane.
>>11490160It was very unexpected in fairness. I kept hoping they would continue the trend with other bootleg rep, I've been vocal about my love for Fuerza T now for the last 5 years, but they just rushed right into the other big nostalgia IPs.
>
It would be as if Capcom announced they're taking a break from making Street Fighter games to release a remake and sequel to Galactic Warriors
Now that would be like Mattel including those King Arthur figures in origins
>>11490176>>11490186>>11490194Are there any casting choices you guys actually like?
The focus always seems to be on the shit castings we don't like, I'd like to know how many you guys do like
>>11490194Why the fuck not just hire an actor with a great voice and hire a big buff guy who can move well, then just CGI the head (which they're gonna do anyway)?
>>11490204>Jรณhannes Haukur Jรณhannesson as Malcolm / Fisto>Alison Brie as Professor Evelyn Powers / Evil-Lyn>James Purefoy as King RandorAll these actors look the part and I definitely think Brie and Purefoy are really good casting.
I have mixed feeling about Camila Mendes as Teela. On the one hand yet another fucking race-swapped redhead, on the other, I do think she's a decent actress and at least she's pretty and they dyed her hair.
>>11490053I thought it over and i think id be excited for a jurassic park cross over. Origins look really swell when you throw a few dollar store dinos or animals in a display. I think jp had a transformer cross over so i wouldnt think itd be an issue with the ip owners as long as they got paid. Plus i just want some damn dinosaurs. I also think now that i say it, a motu transformer cross over could be cool if its done right. By done right im thinking of the gi joe transformers figures and not the sonic the hedgehog crossover.
I got my u cant see me john cena today, the box is beat to fuck but whatever, i had to pass on the wweternia cena and taker since it was covid and i didnt want to be a huge asshole and buy them since some kid might get them and love them.
>>11490204Frank Langella as Skeletor.
William Shatner as Keldor was surprisingly good.
>>11490409I think they mean casting in the new movie that you like.
>>11490212The guy they got for Ram Man I think has the look pretty down. Say what you want about race swapping, but look at those arms. Dude looks tanky enough
>>11490205No idea. You'd think the Darth Vader route would be the most obvious choice here but apparently Mattel and Universal/Paramount/amazon (whoever's making this mess of a movie) knows better.
>>11490204Unfortunately not really. Even the guy they got to be He-man kind of sucks. We'll never get to use Effron either as he BOGGED his face real bad awhile ago. At this point I think the only way a MOTU movie could have worked is as an animated cgi deal sort of like the 2007 Imagi Turtles movie, but even that seems like it would fail nowadays.
Last time I was even mildly into toy collecting was back when MOTU Classics was running, but looking back I am not a fan of the general lack of posability on that line. Also was not a fan of the line that succeeded Classics returning to retro proportions. Are any of the newer MOTU lines similar to Classics in terms of proportions and/or aesthetic but have more modern posability?
>>11490843Masterverse is the same scale and most have double knee and elbow hinges, etc.
>>11490850Thanks for that. I had assumed that Masterverse was a lower quality line, but after a quick skim they look pretty solid for my purposes.
>>11490795>>11490409Saw an article posted about how it's apparently confirmed that Skeletor will have blue body paint.
One commenter said they new movie Skeletor will completely blow the old one out of the water.
An actual good actor like Langella will be completely btfo by Jared fucking Leto because of a thin layer of makeup. You can't make this stuff up.
>>11490795Even bogged he still looks right, the issue is that Efron is only 5'8".
Finally got around to picking up Cartoon Collection Teela. What sick bastard decided to use soft rubber for the chest armour? That shit is gonna rot off in under 10 years. Fucking terrible idea.
Whats this greyskull tease?
Wait, its barbie she ra!
>>11489221I can get behind behind this
>>11489221>>11489345Not saying that this wouldn't be awesome (because it would be), but given the legal issues that arose during MOTU's development and the Conan The Barbarian film's toy development, I wonder if this would cause a conflict?
>>11488821Would it just be a better version of those DC Primal Age figures from a couple years back? I heard those things were riddled with breakage issues.
>>11491488>I heard those things were riddled with breakage issues.Funko MOTU style are a bit fragile, yes. No breakage here, but some loose and some very tight. S7 makes a superior MOTU style albeit overpriced as fuck. Funko can barely hold their weapons while S7 can be a touch tight
>>11488821what would you have mattel focus on then? seems like they dont want to touch powers of grayskull, New Adventures doesnt really have legs, and everyone rather see 200X in masterverse over origins.
>>11491008A He-manlet is easy to shoot around and the least of our problems in all honesty. With today's CGI you wouldnt even notice he's 5'8. But seeing (left) on a movie screen in a bowl cut would be a bit jarring to say the least. I'd still prefer him to the new guy in anycase. Maybe shooting him in harsh shadow post-transformation could get around that.
>>11491488Going off the precedent TOG and Thundercats have set we should do an evergreen classic wave or two and a wave with "Eternian" designs reminiscent of Primal Age, but a few inches to the left.
>>11491483FWIW Boss Fight has an ongoing 5.5. Conan/Red Sonja collection meant to pair with Origins. He's also going to start lapsing within the next few years (though a ton of Conan material is already public domain). DC would be the stronger option as a result because 5.5. DC hasnt really been done outside of Primal Age, and at this point, those figures will never be rereleased.
>>11491804> like they dont want to touch powers of grayskullThey're literally doing PoG right now, and that subline only has 3 real (normal) figures, not including them just cramming it with OCs like Great Black Wizard that everyone is just shitting on anyway, so even if they weren't, what is there to even focus on?
>>11491821Nta but my guess is the lack of dinosaurs. And maybe I've missed it but PoG doesn't seem as hyped up as Year of the Snakes was so maybe it's flying under people's radar.
>>11491804I had lots of breakage from Funko's stuff. Wave 1 of the DC Primal Age seems the worst for it. Wave 2 I didn't have problems, nor the Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. The horror guys gave me some issues to. They are fine if you just want to put them out on the shelf and not touch.
Super7 has been making good stuff. I have Conan and the Misfits Fiend. Both stand easy and seem really durable. Honestly, in hand they feel better than Zoloworld's joints and cost half as much.
Just one week until SDCC Preview night when we'll get our first little taste of that they'll have to show us.
>>11491846Im actually quite curious to see first movie figures. Not excited but curious.
>>11491804Id honestly enjoy new adventures in origins, i agree that the 200X stuff deserves masterverse as it will allow those designs to shine better.
>>11491509>Funko can barely hold their weapons while S7 can be a touch tightThe closest I ever got were the Son of Zorn figures (I really enjoyed the show and I'm bummed it got cancelled), and a couple of the Mortal Kombat figures. Trying to put weapons in their hands is scary as fuck, the plastic is so rigid, both for the hands and the weapons.
>>11491810>Boss Fight has an ongoing 5.5. Conan/Red Sonja collection meant to pair with OriginsHoly shit I hadn't heard about those. They look rad as fuck. Definitely grabbing them.
>>11491807God he used to be so pretty. Such a shame, fortunately he's getting older and that face will be better suited to him when he's in his forties.
He looks like Hasselhoff now. Honestly if Hasselhoff had bulked up a bit more I think he would have been a solid He-Man as well. Imagine a fun, campy 90s live-action He-Man series with everyone as buff or beautiful as the Baywatch cast.
Would you be interested in Three Terrors getting Origins release?
>>11492107Fuck yeah, i would.
So target is finally shipping out sketch book sy klone. I love that dude. Ofcourse now i want an extra one but maybe i can grab one on sale.
>>11491804I'd have Mattel focus on the Horde and Great Rebellion until they're done, plus CC Marlena. Throw in Laser He-Man and Skeletor to keep those characters available and vintage Two Bad and we'd be almost done with both vintage figure lines: just Blast-Attak, Saurod, Blade, Gwildor, and the Energy Zoids for MC or a 2027 anniversary.
>>11492072Conan and Misfits were only slightly improved for weapon holding hands. Didn't open Thundercats just yet
>>11491963Would movie figures even be ready this early to see them, or would we be more likely to see them at New York Toy Fair in Feb or March?
>>11492464>or would we be more likely to see them at New York Toy Fair in Feb or March?Probably this. It'll be part of the promotional roll out in preparation for the film's release.
Here's a far out suggestion for a collaboration.
Gargoyles. I know it's a pipe dream, but I think the two properties could blend well together. Hell the older Kenner figures already basically had MOTU proportions.
>>11491821>>11491832My disappointment does infact stem from the lack of dinosaurs and giants. If you're going to do PoG go balls to the fucking wall. Throw in concept guys like Gy-Gor and the Sketchbook characters in the mix too. Their approach has just been so irritatingly scattershot. The lack of advertising or hype is a big issue too. Origins at large feels like it's on autopilot.
As for Primal Age/Savage World, just like with Funko, I sincerely wonder what the hell it would take for smaller companies to buy up those molds, modify them for quality's sake, and rerelease them themselves. Boss Fight for instance could make a killing rereleasing and expanding on that Horror collection, maybe even getting the original artists involved to make figures based off his rejected designs? If they sat on the DC molds (if they even still exist) for another decade they could reap all those rewards fair and square too.
>>11491972The prospect of NA Origins only really interests me in very specific instances as I love the space mutants. Just about all the heroes, sans maybe Artilla or Saggitar, are total duds in my book however. You'd end up with a really onesided wave as a result with Flipshot, He-man, and Hydron shelfwarming hard as people scalped the bad guys. I just dont know how viable a plan that is.
200X Masterverse should have been done from the beginning. Granted we've gotten some cool figures from New Eternia, but they're few and far between. They havent yet made a He-man in Masterverse Im really happy with either. Savage came the closest but still suffered from that fugly faux anime face.
Outside of crossovers and bootleg acknowledgement the one thing I'd really kill to see is an extrapolation of the military He-man idea Taylor kicked around in the late 80's. I think it could work either as its own collection or as part of a Gi Joe crossover. In anycase it has to happen soon.
>>11492072Zorn had its moments. I could have done without the step-dad angle. I also wish we'd have just focused more on Zorn himself instead of his kid. The Roger Rabbit angle didnt add much to the premise either. It could have just as easily been completely animated.
>>11492077Yeah I'm surprised more anons didnt make a big deal of them either. Having followed Boss Fight's Popeye and KFS efforts, I expect them to make the most of the license too. No way they wont dip into Conan the Adventurer or the Schwarzenegger appearances. I could even see them delving further into Frazetta/Marvel Comics stuff.
>>11492085I've said it for years. Mattel's abandonment of MOTU is nothing short of a travesty. It's a miracle Origins landed aswell as it did after nearly 15 years of neglect and 20 years of classics. 200X was great but the toyline being so limited in POA killed its chances, and NA was little more than a footnote.
>>11492182Great plan in all honesty.
>>11492622I've seen some customs utilize kenner gargoyles parts. It has legs for sure.
>>11492632Are you the same anon who was talking about NA earlier in the thread? Because he pointed out how most people who want NA only want the Space Mutants. As the NAfag, I honestly don't care if they make the majority of the Guardians. But I don't think Mattel has to fall into the trap of "we can't make anything."
Without opening up the NA lore they could:
>cherry pick whose going to sellSimple. Effective. Give the people Optikk and Slush-head.
>less desirable characters as pack ins.I was day dreaming the other day about how I would back a crowd funded Stsrship Eternia and/or Modor. Eternita would be the perfect spot to put Flipshot and Hydron.
>multiple figure sets as MC exclusivesI just got the army builder set and this approach would be a good way to check off 4 of the NA secondary characters at a time.
If Mattel reaaaallly wanted to have fun they could expand the NA umbrella to cover Son of He-Man concepts, Bravestar and Blackstar (its a big galaxy). Brand the other Comet Warrior as a Gaurdian, make Darius (only got a Classics). Make an old-man Rio Blast, coming out of retirement to help guide Dare through the galaxy as he tracks down the duo of Skeletor and Skeleteen.
They could go down the Galaxy hole and start meeting other KO lines.
>>11490212Race mix is kinda a hard description. She is spaniard and can be counted as caucasian in Brasil.
>>11492635>I could have done without the step-dad angle.Yeah, I like Tim Meadows in small doses but he has been really typecast as overly friendly, limp-wristed functionaries, or that plus something really "out there" like a psychopathic cannibal, so that makes any character I see him play now as immediately annoying. I liked the Roger Rabbit aspect because it helped make the show feel a little more unique and really helped make Zorn look noticeably out of place in every day settings. It's just a shame that it felt like the show was really starting to find it's legs by the end (pun intended) and could have been great.
>>11493050I liked Not-Eternia being a Pacific island Zorn's show was recorded live on (which led to an Affirmative Action hiring gag).
Weird how the creator seemed to know enough about MotU to include a version of Stinkor but not that the cartoon was very non-violent, not full of bloody Conan swordplay.
>>11492638>I've said it for years. Mattel's abandonment of MOTU is nothing short of a travesty. That was Scott Neitlich's fault wasn't it? Like he convinced the higher-ups that MOTU had no shelf appeal and should be strictly online?
It's insane the way Mattel just dropped one of the most recognisable brands, one that it owns outright, and focused basically all of its efforts into doing licensed figures and the DC classics like which sucked ass. Imagine if they'd given Barbie or Hot Wheels the same treatment?
>>11493055>Weird how the creator seemed to know enough about MotU to include a version of Stinkor but not that the cartoon was very non-violent, not full of bloody Conan swordplay.I think the MOTU stuff was there for recognition's sake, but Zorn himself was meant to be a catch-all sword and sorcery character, which meant that they could pull from all kinds of sources. Plus having him look like He-Man, but be as, if not more, violent than Conan, really helps with the fish out of water premise.
Also I think it's a pretty safe bet that any kid that was into MOTU got introduced to Conan pretty quickly. Hell I watched Conan years before ever seeing a single episode of MOTU. Though I did have a New Adventures of He-Man figure that I used as a stand-in for Arnie when playing with my Predator figures.
>>11493069Also I get a chuckle that I used a He-Man figure to stand in for Arnie, when Mattel themselves used that same figure for Sylvester Stallone in the Demolition Man toyline. Which also means that Stallone is just as buff as He-Man.
Toyhabits posted Vintage Stratos and let me tell you, Stratos' sock feet always looked like ass but I think now they look more like ass than ever.
It reminds me how I thought Slamurai or Wun-Dar look better on Origins buck. Taking low-effort designs in high detail just highlights flaws.
Also, Im pretty sure Toyhabits is now written by AI.
"In the first image, Stratos is posed in a lunging action stance with his red feathered arms extended forward, emphasizing his mobility and flight-themed design. The second image shows him in a classic airborne pose, arms raised as his blue feathered wings flare out from under his arms, capturing the essence of his aerial capabilities. These shots not only highlight his retro-inspired look but also showcase the figureโs flexibility and range of motion, which are key strengths of the Masterverse line. Overall, this version of Stratos honors the vintage aesthetic while delivering on modern collector-grade quality."
>>11493164>>11493166The smooth feet are weird as hell, but they wouldn't be anywhere near as noticeable if they hadn't used such a lighter gray than the rest of the figure.
>>11493166>>11493242I think it's time to just admit that Stratos wears grey loafers.
>>11493086MOTU/Demolition Man collab when?
It's a good movie, its themes of political correctness are only more relevant today.
>>11493282>It's a good movie, its themes of political correctness are only more relevant today. It's a great movie. Also I hope that in the near future 3D print technology get to the point where we can make actual toys from our own designs, and I don't mean PLA filament or resin, I'm talking proper ABS and PVC plastic extruded into a mould plastic quality. Especially if we can scan existing toys and customise them in a program. Either adding articulation or just reposing a 5POA figure. One of my all time favourite figures (picrel) is stuck in essentially a T-pose. I'd love to remake that figure with the exact same sculpt just change the pose. Scale it up too so that it fits with other figure lines.
>>11493164>pretty sure Toyhabits is now written by AISo is every website/listing these days
>>11492859Yeah that might have been me. NA is just such a frustrating entry in MOTU's history. On paper "MOTU in space" should sell itself, but in execution it ended up feeling a little generic. Everything they did with the villains is all that stands out to me. There are aspects to like about NA He-man too, but the overall end result just feels lacking, and it shouldnt be that way. Knowing we could have gotten He-Ro adventures instead makes the entirety of NA something worthy of resent in retrospect aswell.
I mentioned as much in the past but NA overall is something I'd like to see revisited but massively overhauled. A lore-wide reboot that tries to stay closer to the 80's stuff while opening the door to something bigger. Maybe doubling down on the New Gods influence baked into the Lundgren film and exploring the idea of Eternia broken up into seperate worlds could allow for that.
Rant aside you have some solid ideas there. Hell if they could fundraise the creation of a modern day Starship Eternia they could just as easily toss in the bulk of the heroes as a bonus too. Still I stand by my belief that the only NA toys with any real legs would be the He-man, Skeletor, and the mutants. So at most I'd release them all in retailer exclusive two-packs and three packs (sort of how we've seen done between Stranger Things and Rulers of the Sun).

If Mattel reaaaallly wanted to have fun they could expand the NA umbrella to cover Son of He-Man concepts, Bravestar and Blackstar (its a big galaxy
I kneel. That would be utterly genius. The only way you could sweeten the deal any further is by getting Fuerza T in there too.
What's your take on the military He-man idea? Better off as a one shot or as part of a Gi Joe crossover?
>>11493050I can see where you're coming from but it just made Zorn come across as another run of the mill FOX animated sitcom. The concept of an over-the-hill hasbeen He-man was interesting enough for me to stick around for four episodes, but all the domestics sort of sideline that. The more I dwell on Zorn the more I think it would have made for a better movie than it would have a full series.
>>11493055It was a Dan Harmon production. Gratuitious gore is sort of his brand. It's worth noting alot of Rick and Morty-isms in the writing strained my interest in the show from the start.
>>11493069>>11493086I keep hoping Mattel thinks to acknowledge this connection in some all-encompassing crossoverline down the road. They had this run of WWE figures based off wrestlers who saw success in Hollywood, fezturing Roddy Piper's chzracter from They Live among others. I really want to see something similar for Origins. Mostly as an excuse to get some never-ever wildczrd ideas into the collection, like a 5.5. Robocop or Terminator.
>>11493060It might have been, although I remember him claiming otherwise. He likes to paint himself as the savior of the brand in many cases. It is genuinely absurd that Mattel just flat out quit after 200X in anycase. Hell it's no less insulting that they did the same after NA! All while Hasbro continued to repackage Transformers and Gi Joe until Beast Wars and DIC Gi Joe/SGT Savage/Gi Joe Extreme landed. It's outright unimaginable in any other instance. For whatever reason they've always been that way swith their action figure IPs. Hell when's the last time you heard of Captain Power? Even Max Steel was dealt more respect.
>>11493742>GI Joe crossoverI personally don't have any connection to GI Joe so that angle doesn't interest me. But that being said, motu is what I collect so as long as the toys look good I'll at least consider.
>military He-ManDoes anyone have some of the art to post? I don't have the book handy to refresh my memory. But I'm open to any ideas, same as Joe. If they come off well, I'd pick up a few.
As someone who was a kid in the late 80s/ early 90s, it's hard to express how foreign and off the NA toys were from what we knew as He-Man. IMO that was the true downfall. I remember in kindergarten someone had brought in Slush Head and we all thought he looked cool but had zero clue that he was Motu. Skeleton and Optikk crossed our paths in the same way. I wouldn't be surprised if someone had Kayo or some other Guardians but no one recognized.
And on the other hand, my friend had some of the KOs that immediately got grouped with the other He-Man stuff even if we knew that they were somehow different. Weapons Master from Defenders of the Planets and a Ygg that was made from solid rubber (I think, it's been 30+ years.) The point is that the KOs came across as Motu, but the official He-Man sequel was so far off no one knew what they were.
>>11493937>someone who was a kid in the late 80s/ early 90s, it's hard to express how foreign and off the NA toys were from what we knew as He-Man. I was a kid then too and honestly had no idea NA even existed. No word of a lie, Classics was the first time I ever heard of it and was like "wtf is this? Who are these characters?" And then find out it was a whole toyline and cartoon that somehow went off my radar for decades
>>11493949We eventually figured it out but it was totally due to blind luck. Someone found NA toys at whatever the Canadian 1980's version of Ollie's and the back of the card made everything suddenly click. But if the toys and cartoon were made in 1990 and I saw the toys that year kindergarten, but we didn't know what the heck they were until a couple years later. Doesn't speak well for how the toy line was received lol.
And I never saw the show until covid. The local scalper through in the NA DVD sets with other stuff I was buying.
But looking back I must have been missing NA stuff at flea markets for years. This all just highlights what the critical flaw was - none of it looked like He-Man.
Also throwing this out there...if we are trying to bump up the ranks of the Guardians, a 5.5 version of Space She-Ra from Classics would be awesome.
>>11493964Space She-Ra is one of those things that makes me wish I'd collected Classics.
I really like the idea of NA. It has the potential to really expand the story. I agree with everyone else who says the good guys looking like GI Joes scaled up an inch and a half was the biggest problem. The figures needed to have MotU proportions and more interesting heroes.
>>11494025This isn't a 100% rule but most of the weirdos who only appeared in Classics are reasonably priced still. I've picked up some who I don't think we will ever get in Origins (General Sunder, Seahawk, Icer, Critta, Dare) and none of them broke the bank. I think it's the vintage cast that cost a lot.
As an adult, I've grown a soft spot for NA. It's a fascinating example of what not to do.
I'd rather Mattel make some NA updates rather than another shoe horned crossover thing.
>>11494046>I've picked up some who I don't think we will ever get in Origins (General Sunder, Seahawk,>SeahawkThis stings.
So with New Adventures, the idea of He-Man and Skeletor going into space is great. It's fine that all the old Evil Warriors are gone (numerous 80s stories had already done this, such as the mini-comics, or just kept Beast Man and Evil-Lyn around). The Skeletor/Flogg and Skeletor/Crita dynamics are great. Slush Head, Optikk, etc look as cool as any of the weirdos who were already in MotU.
One problem is that Primus is lame. The only good thing about it is Mara not liking He-Man at first because her people believe in pacifism, then warming up into a bikini-clad hair mace fighter.
Second problem is ignoring everything MotU had already established about space, like Marlena and the existence of an intergalactic Horde.
>>11494097>Primus is lame.Yes it sure is. It feels like it only existed as a way to get He-Man into a new environment that would be a clean slate for the writers.
Does anyone know of any interviews where they talk about the decisions to make NA what it was? I remember hearing somewhere the smaller scale was to compete with GI Joe or Star Wars where the smaller size mean smaller vehicles. But what about the choices like ditching the main cast or why Primus had to be under attack instead of Mordor flying to Eternia?
Well I just finished watching the Masters of the Universe movie for the first time. I'd seen bits and pieces as a kid, but never all the way through.
I liked it. It's like if MOTU was made taking inspiration from Conan The Barbarian and John Carter of Mars, but this movie was trying for the same result using Star Wars and Superman. It's like watching someone trying to replicate a machine, but using totally different parts. It does basically the same thing, but looks almost nothing like the original.
Pros - Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella as He-Man and Skeletor respecitively.
Langella clearly had a ball in the role and really elevates any scene he's in.
The pacing really keeps the story from dragging, and the whole film feels fun and exciting from start to finish.
Cons - The limited budget meant the the Skeletor and Gwildor prosthetics are stiff as fuck and look like shit in close-ups/motion.
The isekai story designed to keep the budget low, while practical, is annoying.
The film side-lines He-Man himself for large chunks of the movie.
That ending fight between He-Man and God Skeletor is kinda lame, I think mainly because they shot themselves in the foot with Skele's costume and it's just to unweildy. It's also extremely obvious that it switches from the main shiny gold costume, to the dull spray paint gold stunt costume despite their attempts to light it in such a way that it's hidden.
I'm gonna post this over on /tv/ as well for any anons that want to talk about it some more.
>>11494245I also ordered the Ramen toys upgrade head for the Masterverse movie figure which I'm planning on picking up.
>>11494245Langella's Skeletor is awesome. He said he got into the character's head by making him a prophet and poet of evil.
That doesn't have much to do with Skeletor's dominant characterization, but there was nothing wrong with not staying consistent with Oppenheimer when Movie He-Man wasn't Prince Adam either.
It's a nice looking figure, but as a New Eternia offering, this has to be one of if not THE lamest offering. This is literally just vintage style Teela in every regard. Where's the design twist?
Snake logo. Snake belt. Snake gun.
Snake Men sure are narcissistic.
>>11494327It's almost complete buck reuse from Evil-Lyn, even torso. Only hips, head and accessories are new.
Biggest twist seems to be giving her ponytail and spear so keep snake staff to Goddess look and spear to warrior one.
Uhh, there are some squiggly lines all over the clothes?
>>11494336kek.
I swear, Skeletor wants Grayskull so he can keep up with them.
>>11494327>This is literally just vintage style Teela in every regard.I'm just glad this is getting made, because I've been toying with the idea of grabbing the Revelation Teela (the more classic design version). I'll just wait for this to come out.
>>11494327This head sculpt looks fucking terrible. I thought they had things down from the way Snake Teela and NE Lyn came out.
>>11494359Glad im done with MV AI slop. God what fucking let down, when we just got Evil Lyn. Should have know when they showed that awful SheRa.
>>11493759>It might have been, although I remember him claiming otherwise. He likes to paint himself as the savior of the brand in many cases. What is the general consensus on Neitlich? I've watched a couple of his videos and the production quality was so bad they were just painful to sit through (mainly the rough audio). I know there was some shit about him stealing photos from a toy photographer too, but everything else I see of him paints him as THE go-to guy when it comes to MOTU, which doesn't seem to mesh for me.
Random MotU memories from being a preschooler in 86-7:
My He-Man was Flying Fists. I think Thunder Punch could still be found but my parents were skeptical of an action features that consumed something you'd have to buy more of.
I had the Sorceress, King Randor, Scare Glow and Faker, but never saw Ninjor or Clamp Champ on the pegs.
My mom wouldn't let me get Blast-Attak because I'd lost parts of my first Modulok and she thought his action features made 7 body parts fly away from each other.
Modulok, Multi-Bot, FF He-Man and Dragon Blaster Skeletor were my absolute favorites. Waiting for a MotU reboot to make MY nostalgia is always suffering.
>>11494359Besides the cool flesh color paint on the chest it looks like they did the faceprinting stuff the Japanese do for more "realistic" faces
>>11494375>My mom wouldn't let me get Blast-Attak because I'd lost parts of my first Modulok and she thought his action features made 7 body parts fly awaySince thread is slow as shit anyway, some head canon bullshit for you:
Blast Attak was Modulok's first try at a robot that emulated his powers to figure out what would and wouldn't work for a bot to split and recombine
Left Blast Attak at Snake Mountain when he ditched the Evil Warriors and his second try, Multi-Bot, was more successful.
>>11494375>I think Thunder Punch could still be found but my parents were skeptical of an action features that consumed something you'd have to buy more of.I've always had a real problem with figures that use blast caps as their gimmick. Just seemed like a really bad idea to be layering that residue on the internals of figures.
>>11494375FF was my go to He-Man as well. Later Motu toys combined with the Golden Books and minicomics are my earliest memories of Motu in general.
Looking back my childhood Motu stuff was so backward by modern collector standards. My mom was buying me what she would find on clearance. And so I had all the later stuff complete and in good working order. Moss Man and Kobra Khan were the earliest figures I got new. Extendar is core Motu for me. I loved that guy. A knight who is also a robot that you can make really tall...holy fuck that almost as genius as a skeletal muscle man who glows in the dark. haha fuck they were so fun to a 4 year old boy. Mosquitor too, that was a favourite.
But all the characters people think of when the think of motu - Orko, Man-at-Arms, Trap Jaw; Beast Man - all mine came second hand and usually missing everything. Same with almost all the vehicles most of mine I found at yard sales later.
>>11494372He was kind of a meme on here during the covid years. I think he gets a bad rep. Sure he has his faults but he also kept the lights on for Motu at Mattel when the company was ignoring the brand. I'm going to white knight for ol Scotty here...
>shitty video qualityThey aren't flashy but he's from the generation before us. What a youtube channel means to him vs what we are used to from the more tech savy generation is immense. his videos should be enjoyed like your uncle is video chatting with you and talking about what it was like in the good old days.
>wrong about motu ownershipI believe that he was probably correct. Correct about how things were when he was working there. But a lot in change in a few years and its most likely that Mattel did some wheeling and dealings to keep Motu. Scott didn't know this because he doesn't work there anymore.
>Go-To guyHe was the brand manager during Classics. Anyone who wants to argue that he did a poor job is just being petty. Classics went deep, showed care in the details and set the standard for what an adult collector line is. Why shouldn't we want to hear his stories about working on this line?
>Specter is a lame characterMaybe. But whatever. Just as lame as the Rulers o the Sun. Or Feurza-T (what if Stratos had green loafers and pink wings on a red body?) Let the man have his wish fulfillment...I'd be happy for you if you got to pick a motu wave and you filled it with your wishlist.
Also we always wifeswap after Zolofest. So I can't hate the man that much.
>>11494245>That ending fight between He-Man and God Skeletor is kinda lameThat fight was shot months after execs had decided to stop production after they had completely blown the budget. The director begged the execs to let him film the final scene that was needed to complete the movie, and it was all filmed in one day.
>>11494345He should steal Trap-Jaw's belt while he's at it.
My Target marked down some MotU stuff even further. I walked away with a $7 Dragon Blaster Skeletor and a $14 CC not-naked Stratos.
>>11494245The isekai thing I think would've landed better IF they had at least acknowledged the lore from other sources about his mom being from Earth. He's half earthling, he grew up hearing stories about Earth, it's so weird that those elements are stripped from the version that actually VISITS Earth, you know?
Also Julie sucks. Kevin and Lubic were both useful and funny in varying degrees, Julie was just awful, so her being the main point of contact with Earth just kinda spoils it
>>11494375Ill never ever fiorget when my parents moved out of our great grandmothers house and i was playing outside. Welp, time to go and i got in the car. Started crying and moms yelling at me and im just watching my figures get further away. Fucking neighbor kids probably took them. I remember being upset that kid at school, i was in kindergarten, wearing my skeletor shirt. I was mad and confused why my dad gave some kid my shirt.. there was a great pic of me in my shirt and undies holding my sword in the air, becoming he man.
