I like the SHF more. Reminds me of the art of the later Rebuild films. Right looks nice if you want something closer to the first 2 Rebuild films or even NGE with the fluffier hair, but I already have the Figma for that.

Model kit has the advantage of customizability because (I think) it was said that it would be compatible with 30m sisters line (bikini, school swimsuit, frilly idolshit, mecha armor, etc bodies).

Figuarts looks like it might have a better overall range of articulation. I personally have no beef with the ab-crunch on the SHF, so it’s not as big of an issue to me.

If you’re good at painting and modding you could always turn the model kit Rei into a young Yui to give a possible Shinji SHF some uncomfortable feelings.

do model kits feel different to actual ready made figures? or do they fall apart a lot more easily? are the joints generally quite firm or lose after? they seem significantly cheaper so i'm wondering what the catch is (because just clipping things together doesn't seem like to hard of work).

I am glad there are SHFs coming. Building model kits is fun but the flimsy end product always disappoints me. They are a last resort and I prefer complete figs.

Yeah, they use clamshell designs. Some action figures use that too, but it's rarer. So rather than two molded pieces being joined by a pin, you have two hollow pieces that you press together over a joint piece. If you want you could add a layer of putty inside for some weight, but kits are fine as-is.

Easy skip. There are more than enough alternatives for EVA toys. There's no reason to buy this that was probably outsourced to some pajeet. Bandai is pretty bad at making toys, messing up something as easy...as evangelion in 2025 is just emberassing
