Without the media this brand would be dead, reminder Takara sold the toys without a story and they were a flop. Everyone cares about the toys because of the media, let's not lie. If the toys really would be more important than the media then shit like gobots and other brands would still sell Today.

Sure, but Bay coming back does lots of damage to the brand. I still remember when The Last Knight bombed, before it flopped in my country we had big stands for Transformers toys, we had entire sections of everything, it was peak. We even had for TLK and then the film bombed hard and it killed TF at retail (in my country but heard it happened in many others). It took years for TF to return to retail here after 2017, and now when it gets better they bring Bay back to fuck it up hard. I don't hate the films but I hate TLK because it killed the brand here.
Anonymous No.11474246
I don't believe Bay will be back because:
>Paramount knows Bay is responsible for the damage the brand got, he is better as a producer
>Most likely if they do make another film they will do the Josh Cooley idea (100% will be a reboot, maybe they will put it in canon with One and try to translate the designs to live action) and if that film is a hit we might get another animated film that's a sequel to One
Or they let the rights expire and Hasbro finally gives them to another studio (I hope Legendary or WB)

That too. I liked TFA at the time, but a lot of that was due to hating the way it looked initially, then actually being pleasantly surprised by how good the show was. Going back almost 20 years later, I was kind of blown away by how much better the writing, animation and voice acting are not just compared to modern TF, but most modern cartoons in general. And I appreciate the rec. RiD is one of those I've always been curious about, but always slips my mind because I never caught an episode while it was airing.

Nothing pegs in his alt mode, the guns and neck assembly is horrendous, he doesn't come with ski poles, legs don't swivel, and his skis are loose and easy to move out of alignment. It's a good toy, but it could be a lot better with modern engineering.

But the first season also has issue with annoying human villains that seem like Teen Titans rejects. There's a lot of focus on the humans. Also it's a bit too silly for some people

I think Prime did the humans the best in the sense they were barely in it and outside Jacks' mom we never saw or gave a shit about their life outside hanging with the Transformers. They weren't even in the series finale movie at all. Also I kinda liked the few scenes where they did manage to help out like taking out Soundwave in the end.
I just pretend RID doesn't exist since it completely erases and undoes everything Prime did with the characters.

Barely in it? The humans in prime are a fucking constant, and they're all consistently nauseating (except for fowler) and literally never fucking change

Animated did humans way better. Sari actually had interesting development and made meaningful bonds with the cast. Sumdac actually does important shit that impacts the plot and setting instead of being resolved in a single episode. Fanzone even does the government mediator guy far better than fowler. Prime wishes it had an episode as kino as This Is Why I hate Machines

Yeah, the early human villain filler wasn't the best, but I still enjoyed the later episodes with meltdown, headmaster and powell far more than, fucking... jack arbitrarily going to cybertron, doing jack-shit, and then coming back the same plank of wood to turn optimus back into another plank of wood. You don't know Macross if you think a pacifistic protagonist is the weirdest thing it has. This is a universe where music magically buffs allies or debuffs enemies.
> you could move people with music played on a speaker..
Funny you say that - they actually make military-grade speaker packs for most VFs in the series, and they literally exist just to broadcast music - not sonic attacks, not ECM jammers, just music usually sung by pop idols. Basara's is no exception (see pic rel), his is just modified to broadcast his performances as he jams out on his guitar in the cockpit.
>>11475236
>>11475265
The Fire Valkyrie is a custom VF-19. The stock version of it, the VF-19 (and its prototype, the YF-19), comes with a gun pod by default, so even if Basara doesn't use his, it still came with one before he modified it. That being said, this guy's gun looks like a black version of Basara's custom sound pod gun rather than the stock gun pod - it's just painted black and has blue plates on it now.

Why? Toys used to come first, always, before the movies. The one exception was the 1986movie, and likely Star Saber. Hasbro's input in the 80's seems more vague, but by the 90's they(as kenner) start contributing more in terms of the design process with art.
Hasbro has tight rules bout what they could sell in the market and how they'd organize waves(can't have too many in the same color, can't have too many of the same kind of vehicle, as some considerations).
Hasbro would come up with some ideas and early designs, Takara would figure out how to engineer those designs and tweak it as necessary. Armada in particular is heavy in having Archer's design quirks which are notably different than how Takara was doing TFs at the time(HotShot having a race car driver theme, Demolishor and Cyclonous having kinda doofy ugly guy faces instead of handsome JP mecha)
The UT is the first time we really got a transparent look into the design process and it's probably one of the most in depth looks into the process we've gotten since Archer is still pretty open to discussing the process on record.

The reputation of gobots is really bogged down in the cartoon being rally dated, and the larger toys in the US toyline being bogged down with non-MR toys and some Tonka original toys that weren't as good.
The original Machine Robo toys were designed by PLEX- the people who handle all the sentai and Kamen Rider designs among many other Bandai mecha stuff, so they're all solid little designs, the whole theme of most of the line being pocket robots you could buy for cheap.

Not the anon you're replying to, but Siege Optimus is TONS better than Earthrise.

The two biggest things Siege Optimus has going for him are proportions and articulation. He has a much better proportioned robot mode, especially since his pelvis isn't squished vertically like ER making it look like he has a perpetual wedgie. And his articulation is so much better since he doesn't have those stupid wheels hanging off the back of his waist, inhibiting your ability to pose him without at least partially untransforming those pieces.

The biggest downside to Siege Optimus are the stupid floodlights on top of his cab in vehicle mode, but it's a small price to pay for a superior figure. Even the little bit of kibble on his forearms is easily forgivable since it's reminiscent of both G1 and Classics Optimus.

Deco-wise, the initial release of Siege Optimus did have that crappy battle damage, but that's super easy to remove if it bothers you enough. Meanwhile, every version of Earthrise Optimus prior to the recent Dramatic Capture three-pack had ugly deco compromises, such as the initial release which lacked yellow in the center of his waist and had difficult to see eyes, and the Netflix version which fixed both those problems but then was stuck with greenish-gray windows on his chest instead. There was no winning with it!

And best of all, at the end of the day, Siege Optimus is just a much more fun toy to play with, in my opinion. He's got strong proportions, great articulation, and a satisfying transformation, which all more than makes up for his floodlights. Meanwhile, there's nothing Earthrise Optimus does better in these areas to make up for his drawbacks.

If you see Prime Wars era toys at clearance prices online still, those are probably it. You might still want to get them anyway. That period's Vietnam factories were still starting out and had abysmal QC, meanwhile the KOs were made in China that effortlessly have better QC even with the trashiest of KOs, so they end up matching up.

This is the one that had me worried, and the one I wanted. The giveaway, like you said, is the peg or lackthereof, as well as the lack of silvery scratches on his forearms. I scoured the tfw forums about it.
BUT
I checked on aliexpress to compare it to an ebay find to see if I could confirm for myself that the ebay one was good, to my horror I discovered a clearly listed KO had a review, with photos, stacked up against what he claimed was a real one and both had the shoulder peg, with the defining giveaway being a different shade/tone of blue. So now I have now idea what to think.

Oh yeah, i would NOT do that for clear parts. Clear stuff (when it is painted, which it almost never is), like chrome, gets a special kind of clear coating, which is infamous for flaking off. It's why clear parts are typically cast in the clear color instead of having translucent paint (that, and because the law of whatever says that you lose some brightness every time you add another transparent filter, no matter how much light it lets through, it's still subtracting a little)

Seems to me that being a collaboration where names are undecided for a while and both sides do their own thing, there's not a clear answer for witch names came first. There's proof in this very thread that Red Alert design was being worked in Japan under the name of Ratchet, for example. So they already decided on a different name even before the toy was produced.

Easiest way to see this is that both the Japanese and American names coexisted during development. Most probably some of them got decided in Japan first as the American side flip-floped, and some others got their American names from the start. That's the thing with co-productions, things are happening and moving simultaneously. There's not a clear answer.

>There's proof in this very thread that Red Alert design was being worked in Japan under the name of Ratchet, for example. So they already decided on a different name even before the toy was produced.
The first of the process would've been an idea($20 price point ambulance toy, for example) with likely some art produced for it on Hasbro's end. The Japanese art is control art based on those ideas that they engineered.
I do get that they weren't particularly set on most names, it's more that I think defaulting to the JP names just because of the anime is wrong given how the process worked. The anime were adapting existing designs. I also think a lot of people put stake into those names more than Takara actually did given they were working off Hasbro ideas. With the red Alert/Ratchet example, there's no reason to think the original Hasbro work was ever to have him be Ratchet, Takara just decided along the line to name an ambulance robot after an existing one.
With something like the JP original anime where Hasbro wasn't involved, I'm all for those characters using their original Japanese names. Like Car Robots over Robots in Disguise, Fire Convoy over Optimus Prime, etc.

In this case in particular is also possible they were unable to get the license, it's well known they had trouble with it until they came up with the "Autobot Ratchet" thing in the 2007 movie and Animated. The Hasbro side was more limited by licensing than Takara in that regard.

Fiddling with Star Convoy and so far, I like it, but I have some issues with it:

-Several connections are tabs, with no other reinforcement, like pegs, so if any are damage, you won't be able to transform it properly.
-Connection between the Micro Trailer and the leg is bizarre. I'm not sure why they didn't just use pegs, it's not hard to remove but it's not pleasant either.
-Hot Rod looks neat, but has poor articulation. He's barely more articulated than a micro master despite being core class, and he's too big to interact with Star Convoy properly.

I'm not going to elaborate between the features of the og and the new version, but I will say that it's surprising how the micro trailer kept the side connectors since they're only relevant if they ever make a Sky Garry and make more mixro trailers. They also added a second connector on the back so one micro trailer can haul another.

It's possible, but he'd still have stumpy legs:

-legs still open up, the knee section opens, with the ratchet joints being on both sides of the knee, not through it. Thick thighs will have both the knee swivel and hip ratchets
-Gets waist articulation, and while the pelvis area no longer has a section on it the torso is on a slider so it can lock by turning it all the eay to the side, then sliding it into a second space for the waist joint, then locking it by twisting it back into position. Meanwhile, the pelvis has a foldout feature so it can take the front of the torso all the way to the floor. The detachable section of the torso has a small fold out swivel that can be connected to the pelvis, and you detachable this whole section before moving the torso for base mode.

I still want him to be able to become armor for Star Convoy. If they turned him into a gigantic weaponizer to facilitate modern joints and multiple modes I wouldn't be too upset. Same with Sky Garry, but he would work fine as a Commander.

>Thoughts on crossover-formers?
Some are better than others; I find the ones that you can kinda-sorta argue fit into the universes they're supposed to be from to be among the better ones (like Agent Knight literally just being K.I.T.T. with the next logical upgrade to his form, or Mando Bot here being a giant droid modeled after a Mandalorian rather than being literally Djinn Jardin).
On the note of the Mandalorian one, specifically, he's one of my favorites and is easily the best Star Wars crossover character they've ever done - he doesn't look too horribly disproportional in robot mode like past ones, the fact that he's got a visored helmet instead of an actual character's face makes it easier to buy that he's a robot and not some unholy abomination, and he's got a lot of nice little details that are callbacks to the show built into him. The one issue I have is that his Grogu Pod is a mandatory partsforming piece, as you can't transform him into robot mode without removing it and his vehicle mode is missing its entire back half if you put it aside entirely. It's still fun if you can find a little critter to put in it, though, and I like that his stand transforms a few ways as well, either holding up the Grogu Pod or by becoming a big shield with his Mudhorn emblem on it.

actually yes, the original gundam was modular, the inner cockpit and life support unit could pop out from the torso (the body splitting into two halves, a little awkwardly) and then transform into a jet. the concept gets brought back a bunch of ways, notably all the G Gundam ones have a pod that flies into the back of the gundam and inserts itself.. sometimes carrying the gundam's wings or back accessories with it, if any.

Seeing reviews for Star Optimus before I got mine I wonder if I got perfect qc, or if the reviewers just suck at transforming/playing with figures:

-I saw complaints about the small trailer getting stuck inside the leg, and mine works just fine on both, the hatch also opens while inside the leg just fine and the leg also closes as intended
-the tread unit never falls out, you need to use the clips and pegs to lock it in.
-Chest opens and closes just fine, you only need to exert downward force at the very top of the chest when closing it and it tabs in immediately.

Reminds me how people complained about Legacy Dreadwing and Skyquake not being able to stand when you only needed to do the transformation correctly and transform the heels properly.

20% tariff, which is well below the 30% that was causing the freakout.
In exchange, us companies (hasbro) now have full access to vietnams market, meaning they can sell things there even if it wasn't produced there. That means they can move their production out of vietnam and still sell to vietnam.

With a similar deal likely landing on china in a month, hasbro should more than be able to eat the costs, especially with the US economy thriving as of late.
The real question is: will they shift manufacturing out of vietnam, if so: where? And will it improve or worsen the qa for transformers we've seen take a dive ever since the vietnam move

Compulsion. Staks is a Super Gobot that looks like a robot without a head. When Hasbro did spin-off stories and couldn't use the original toy or the cartoon designs for Gobots, they opted to have those characters as fictional redecos of existing toys. Staks in this image is Combiner Wars Prime with the head still untransformed. CW Prime sucks and I don't wanna pay $30 for it, so I chose a PotP Optimus I had laying around instead. it's a little oldfashioned.. something I'd expect more on uhh what's the name of the guy that the Ark's computer turns into.. cerebros or whatever. That's something he would have..
Silverbolt's an aircraft, so air intake and output are just always appropriate. Of course if you flipped it, so the vents are pointing up, it'd look more like an intake vent.. and yknow, if you cut a bunch of little strips of plastic and glued them on to make it an actual 3D vent, all the better.
the ten colored dots sticker is fine too I suppose, the red would probably look okay, make his whole chest into a red H like Sgt Hatred. depending where you put it. I forget where this blemish was, if you posted it earlier.

But yeah, a huge chunk of Silverbolt's price is the great fat lump of combiner kibble that actually makes up the robot mode that you just stick jets to, just like Motormaster.

What a fascinating little thing

All the movements you want is there minus the waist which is not possible due to transformation and the design.

All that in this little package. But because how it was designed back in the 80's the robot is just funky looking

The paint on my is decent, but that is really just luck of the draw

Though I do have to comment the knees and right hip are really weak. The knees are more of design problem because how dense the torso is. Though the hip is just you typically QC.

I don't know if I recommend adding polish on them as the parts are painted.

I just wish you can til the head backward without it bounces back to neutral position

To be fair, at this point I have no expectation of proper joint tightness with collector items from TT or Hasbro just from the fact they keep making questionable design decisions.

Not even remotely - the thighs were made up of the VF-19's intakes on the original, but those now sit on Prime's shoulders here, so the thighs are now completely unarmored. There's no armor on his crotch, either, so now his hips are just awkwardly attached to a solid block, which isn't accurate to the Valkyrie OR Optimus Prime. I get that they wanted the Battleroid Mode's silhouette to be more like OP while the Fighter mode was supposed to be the straight-up VF-19 Excalibur, but it feels like they botched it - the insistence on having Prime's windshield chest pectorals fucked up the overall transformation scheme.

So sunstreaker

Same thing but just in yellow

the right hip being weaker is definitely a thing
While as the white one the hip is literally flopping around sunstreaker's is at least holding its position.
But compared with the left side the right is clearly weaker.

As for the knee they are about the same. I think the body is just a bit heavy for the knees to hold.

But regardless of the weak hip or knees I would recommend a stand for them. The feet are a bit unwieldy due to the shape and now added articulation. The heel doesn't help too much as they don't extend backward where they are needed the most

>The head

No it is not spring loaded.
It is just pinned to the neck with an additional pull up joint for car to bot transformation.
The problem is there is enough room to tilt the head backward but the joints will force it back into its lower resting position

A color which the Unite Warriors drastically improved upon with a beautiful golden yellow color. It’s a shame they repeated that same mistake again. For me the #1 niggle has to be the leg bots going on the back of the leg. I get it. It’s took accurate. Thanks! Are you for real? Of course plenty of people would hate that because "not muh classic combiner configuration". And the ones having an aneurysm over frame combiners are precisely the non-tooner crowd, proving they are as autistic if not worse than them and unable to accept anything that deviates to how things should always work in their minds.
Also any character designed to be the hips at a retail price point is destined to be trash. It's not just about budget, but stability and regulations of durability for child toys. Using a third party picture as an example is absurd, as they don't need to adhere to those rules when designing their figures.

At the end of the day the frames system gives us better individual robots AND a combiner that feels solid and is poseable. Meanwhile, the CW followed your holy method of combination and you ended up with awkard as fuck and unstable robots. Right now, therese are the two choices Hasbro has made, feel free to choose the CW toys if how they combine is more important than how good of an action figure they are. That's all there is to it.

It bothers me that they don't lock into place. The springloaded piece should have a wall instead of a ramp on the inner side to lock the joint in place, needing to be moved manually to remove it. What's the point of the spring if it still slides out easily?
