Mega figs, weapons and parts on Ali isn't new but I found a store offering a fixed selection pile of weapons with storage case included. In the past your options were either a random assortment that was guaranteed to be at least 50% old-style ARs and hardly any Covenant weapons, or various listings of 10x this or that weapon with the best ones being always sold out. This listing gives you five each of fourteen different weapons (got stiffed one of the shotguns), still mostly UNSC but I'm quite happy that Maulers were included.

>>11484126
From the same store I also got a 15-pack of random figs, something that used to be commonplace but is harder and harder to find with most stores just offering specific selections. All but three are first-gen which suits me fine; the blue Elite Honour Guard is probably the most unusual one of the lot and I just happened to stock up on spare pikes heh. One thing that distinguishes this lot from others I've tried in the past is they actually include weapons, two per figure and ending as three of each weapon type from the same selection as the above lot, minus the silver shottys and ARs, carbines and pikes.

With only archived versions of the old Mega Halo pages it's more challenging to play ID the figure's origins but I'll be taking a crack at it, can probably solve a few by just going through my previous plays.

I'm curios--anyone else in the thread can answer to--do you have more UNSC than Covenant? That seems to be pretty common amongst Halo Mega fans.

>>11484242
Back in 2016 when I did these shots that was certainly the case and although it's been almost a decade since I can't imagine the percentages have varied greatly. The line in general followed that trend so it's a safe bet that many collections will similarly have a UNSC majority.
Anonymous No.11484420 [Report]
>>11484242
I have definitely beefed up my collection of Covenant and specifically collected a lot of Banished, but the ratio is still probably about 4 to 3. Part of that is in buying lots of the cool armors from the heroes line, but once they revamped the grunt design I bought like 30 of them

I'd got one a few years before from Ali but far enough back and countless sets later that I barely remember the experience. Right off the bat we have a bit of an error in that the set is labeled an M1127 Stryker, a forgivable mistake considering the layman looking at a BTR-80 and a Stryker is only going to see 8 wheels and a gun turret and assume because it's copied from an American-made set the vehicle has to be the latter.

Check out this smug blockhead doing the Lego thing assuming most of their builders are very young and/or retarded and need extensive hand-holding right from the get-go. Will say for this set it's a bit misleading considering the entire booklet is about 40 pages long for a set with almost a thousand pieces, Lego's would be the size of a decent novel by comparison.

Speaking of misleading the opposite page demonstrates how to use a brick separator, something conspicuously absent from this set. Beyond that they fully embrace their Mega heritage and give you a hefty list of pieces for each building step and reasonable guidance in the illustration as to where they all go. I find it interesting that they're basically brick-building the terrain piece Mega used quite frequently in its CoD and other sets for years, a piece that has been KO'ed as well but apparently not by these guys.
Anonymous No.11493756 [Report] >>11493761
>>11493750
This little build falters a couple steps by sticking close to its origins but not accounting for a couple crucial factors:
>brick-built instead of single plate terrain
The brick-built terrain is a little too fragile to support the problem brought about by the second issue, really needed a few more plates to secure them better;
>barbed wire coil plastic
The coil of barbed wire is of a different kind of plastic than the Mega original, has less flexibility to it which causes the terrain to break apart when attempting to connect the coil to the poles at either end; have to settle for the middle pole to keep the thing from self-destructing. Not that big a deal overall, stick the whole thing on a baseplate and it should be ok though the poles will probably bend some.

Still have a few steps left to finish the BTR itself but I will mention the difficulty curve of telling green and dark grey parts apart in the instructions; had to backtrack more than once cuz i got the wrong colours and needed my phone light quite a bit to make sure I wasn't mixing them up again. Definitely not a kit for the easily frustrated.
Anonymous No.11493794 [Report]
>>11493761
I regret missing the original Mega set but the Chinese did a really good job with this knock-off, much better than the Half-Track and its useless treads. The finished vehicle is wonderfully huge and is quite roomy inside; most of the top cover lifts off easily to access it with doors on either side as well.

One minor bug is that they failed to provide the right part for a couple spots, namely corner plates with holes instead of solid studs; there's a couple spots on the top side armour panels where a grey bar piece is supposed to go but the corner plates with solid studs provided prevent their installation, largely a cosmetic slight but they should've done better. They also don't mention you will pretty much have to cut down the red hose piece significantly to fit into the engine compartment.

Those quibbles aside it really is one of the best KO sets on the market, the fact that it's still available while most of the rest have come and gone is a good indicator too I'd say.

Speaking of

Finally dusted off my Pyrates ships and crew and put them on a proper shelf. The one thing that did always annoy be about Mega (Megabloks back then) was the quality of the minifigs and pieces.

Going all the way back to the Dragons sets (Which I have no space to display atm) I always found myself breaking off the hands of the figures because they would just wear with time when putting on accessories and such. They also had a problem with the legs which would wear out so they would fall over at the hip joints. I found this problem with the plastic extended to pretty much all individual pieces, when dusting off my Dread Eye's phantom the plank broke into several parts because the plastic hardened and just split. Never had such issues with my Lego minifigs or pieces, maybe a loose arm but nothing like this, nor was it this common.
Anonymous No.11499325 [Report] >>11499329 >>11501658
>>11499323

Pretty mad too that I had these ships stored for years at my parents' house and when I finally retrieved them, Dread Eye's sword was missing and the cannons on my Stormstalker were not working. And here I thought there was no harm in letting small kids play with them.

I would've loved to collect the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman sets when they came out for the PoTC: At World's End series. The hardest part would've been to collect enough crew for them, especially for the Dutchman. Been eyeing them on e-bay but they're even rarer than some Lego sets I've been looking for.
Anonymous No.11499335 [Report] >>11499345 >>11499729 >>11501658
>>11499329

One thing Mega was definitely superior at was making ships. I never got the Dragons ships, which built more like a standard Lego ship with lots of plates and bricks, but the Pyrates ships beat the hell out of anything Lego has made in terms of ships. Not only do the Pyrates ships have better proportions, but they are also great with them being basically 3-5 large pieces that you ensemble together for the hull and then smaller pieces that you add on such as the masts and helm.
Anonymous No.11499345 [Report]
>>11499335

So if you look at the Pyrates ships vs for example the Lego Black Pearl you'll just see this massive difference in quality. DESU, I also saw the Mega version of the Black Pear and I don't love it either but it just feels more complete and with slightly better proportions. What annoys me is both versions look real bad proportion-wise, they look like oversized boats instead of the actual size of the black pearl. The issue I think was trying to make them look like the movie which in some shots looks short and bulky, but the ships definitely need to be longer to have a better sense of perspective in relation to the minifigures.

They did paint stuff, but it varied. With the Dragons series, at least when it came to the minifigs they only did the "important" ones such as wizards. Some accessories such as shields and banners had extreme level of detail, while weapons were just the regular stuff.

You can see in the previous pic the infamous hand issue which plagued all Mega products up to the Pyrates line at least. I stopped getting Mega after that, from new stuff I think I have maybe one Halo figure somewhere. If you see the figures used to be much more stiff, kinda like Lego figures basically but you couldn't rotate the hands.

That all changed when they introduced Pyrates since that minifig has been the template for Mega ever since. The only thing they have really changed is the quality of the plastic they use nowadays.
Anonymous No.11501001 [Report] >>11501658

Anyway the Dragons line basically ended after Metal Ages which was their peak. After Metal Ages they had some new stuff with these red and platinum colors like the guy on the far right in this pic, from what I remember and I investigated this was the Battlestorm Epic which was the last series.

It was weird because I remember getting the Battlestorm sets BEFORE Plasma Dragons but Plasma came before battlestorm so idk. Thing is Dragons did a weird thing changing the figures for one series only before returning for the final series and then they just said "Fuck it" and booted the Dragons Universe.

By this point they had already incursioned into Pyrates and their first license which was Pirates of the Caribbean.
