SDCC is in two weeks! Looks like there is a panel entitled "The New Era of Turtle Power" that Friday. Guess we'll see what that covers.
The 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action movie is getting a theatrical event showing August 17th and 20th. If you've never seen it before (somehow) or never saw it in the theaters this would be a fun way to enjoy the turtles!
>>11487901Walmart collector con is happening at the same time as SDCC, and they have a shadow preview of the NECA Worms of Madness Shredder. Likely a drop of the 2-pack and MAYBE their blue Dracula Shredder?
The Playmates Remastered 6-pack is shipping to Target already, likely prepping for an aisle reset or endcap.
Expect people to find it on shelves in the coming days and then be told it's street dated. As they do.
Toyark has a nice look at the SDCC exclusive Skele-Shredder: https://www.toyark.com/2025/07/11/skele-shredder-sdcc-motu-exclusive-in-hand-gallery-566604

>>11487980Why did they make all the other figures based on the original toys but Splinter based on the cartoon? How is the concept of this line already falling apart in just the second release?
>>11488047They’re obviously going to rerelease the new smooth skin turtles with toon heads
>>11488047Its bizarre. I guess they figure his toon design is more iconic.
>>11487896 (OP)the 1/4s look so much subtly better than the 1/9s or whatever you'd call that scale, they will never stop appealing to me.
Looks like my Spirit of Splinter is arriving soon, with his four superfluous sons who didn't even come with extra heads. I know I won't get much money for them, but I hope someone takes this opportunity to get the movie turtles for cheap. they ARE good toys.
>>11488047Look more closely. This is a reinterpretation of the original toy, with a flat cranium and a big snoopy nose because the original mis-painted the more correct, narrow nose of the sculpt (sadly super7 also did this and sculpted the huge Brian Griffin nose so there's no fixing it. well maybe with putty. might try that actually.)
then they just painted his eyes as the original toy had them sculpted, with pupils, instead of how it was painted, to match the comics where his eyes are white with a heavy black outline.
>>11487901Got my tickets for the TMNT movie, looking forward to that. Got good seats too. Anyone know the best place to buy the JoyToy TMNT figures since they can't distribute them outside of Asia? I have Krang, I'd like to get the turtles, April and Casey next.
Also, had a good haul today. I was hoping to pick up that Mona Lisa and the local toy store ended up having her. Also got that Catwoman From Channel 6 set, mostly because I like Irma.

I could have sworn those nostril corners were originally more like the muzzle parts, and then there was a sculpted narrower noise above them
>>11488346Here's a better look, but I don't think it looks like the toy at all. Also the robe is completely wrong.
>>11488346 >Here's a better look, but I don't think it looks like the toy at all. Also the robe is completely wrong.
>>11488283i wish super7 had been allowed. those movie star turtles were huge to me. they looked so much like they COULD have been the henson sculpts, in a way, but they also weren't, they had their own unique visages. and they kept using those and re-using those for later toys, even a baffling mini playset one.
>>11488354Yeah but you can see how it's a mixture of the cartoon and original toy form. In fact, it ends up resembling the Wacky Action Splinter a bit. uhh 'creepy crawlin splinter' particularly the brow.
I'm sure they did a little research and found most people think the original splinter toy looks a little doofy
but what's bugging me is i could SWEAR I saw the original '88 splinter sculpt, a prototype, something, with the nose molded differently from what we see here, more like a realistic rat, and that the big black nose was just a paint error.

>>11489834I never understood this release. We got the colored versions which were fine, but then we get the black and white sketch versions, but with red bandanas…? Why? Makes no sense. The bandannas should be white.
>>11489902No, they should be red. It makes them stand out better from the typucal releases and what had come before. If you don't "understand" that then you have some serious issues to work through.
>>11489909No. They’re supposed to be the sketch turtles. That’s the whole point of them. The red bandana is inaccurate and for a company like NECA that prides itself on accuracy, it’s baffling they decided to go with it.
>>11489902What is there to get? It looks tight.
>>11489919Guess they shouldn't have included extra heads or weapons that weren't part of the sketch either, right? Moron.
>>11489924Oh cmon there’s a big difference between getting the color of the figure matching and having some extra accessories. If you want the figure to look like the sketch, you can’t. If the color was right, the extra heads and accessories wouldn’t prevent you from making it look like the sketch so it’s fine. But by making the color of the bandana red, they’ve ruined any semblance of accuracy.
>>11489964There's nothing wrong with the red added in. They shouldn't have added articulation either! Oh no it's not in the pose the sketch was in! Now it's innacurate! Having the red bandanas eliminates the ability completely to make them look like the sketch. You’re just completely missing my point.
>Go buy some white paint if you can't be satedWhy should I have to paint it myself? It’s their fault for falsely advertising their product as the original sketch turtles.
>Or just buy the statues you big babyBut I want figures, not statues.
>>11489991Ohhhhh so you're selectively "okay" with things when you don't want a reason to argue about something as inane as red bandanas? Okay, cool. How convenient for you.
>>11490000Holy hell, you’re missing the whole point. Let me spell it out for you.
Red bandanas are inaccurate to the original sketch.
Turtles will never be completely accurate to the sketch because the bandanas were in fact, not red.
Product comes with extra heads and accessories not shown in sketch.
BUT the appropriate head, hands, and accessories are included so you can replicate the sketch perfectly if you want, except the bandanas are red for no apparent reason.
Product is advertised as black and white.
Red is neither black or white.
Product is falsely advertised.
>>11490012So the whole point is you just wanted a reason to bitch and complain? Got it.

You'll get fixed ankles on the next release, but they'll fuck up the colors when they overcorrect fixing Raph's shade of green and everyone will end up some weird shade of turquoise. And you'll buy them anyway. Then they will release them again in the correct colors, but forget to paint their wrist wraps.

It's been said pretty clearly Viacom owns all of it. There would be no 'buy', they already have all the toys, they can give them to any of their kids to play with.
>>11492745>how can super7 claim ownership to those moldsThey made the molds. Simple as.
>if playmates can't claim ownership to their designs (until later, when they could)Now this is where it gets tricky, and the following is conjecture, and I've said this theory before.
I don't believe Playmates actually own the designs. I believe (and this is based on the fact that Super7 could make them in the first place) that the designs are owned by Varner Studios, who designed the original toys for Playmates. I believe that Super7 approached Varner for the rights to make the figures based on their designs.
Now how can Playmates stop Super7 from making them if they don't own the designs?
Master license. I guarantee that written into the contract is a clause where no other licensed company can compete with products that Playmates are releasing. Now do the Super7 Ultimates compete with the Playmates reissues in our eyes? Hell no. But to a court, I bet the similarity in the designs, even if they are aimed at a different market, would be enough to be considered a breach of contract.
All conjecture, but this makes the most sense.
>It's been said pretty clearly Viacom owns all of it.That's not how it works for the molds. Paramount/Viacom owns the Intellectual Property rights for TMNT. That doesn't mean they own the actual molds. Playmates own the molds they made to produce figures. NECA owns their own molds. And Super7 own their molds. If those companies lost the license, they wouldn't be able to make figures with the molds, but the actual molds are still their property that they own, and they could choose to sell them to another company that now has the license to make figures, or melt down the steel into a paperweight if they wanted.
>>11491982The eye paint looks different from the earlier releases
>>11491013Oh, I thought Ronin was a one-shot. Now we're getting more. oh well
>>11492785It was a limited series, but because it was so successful they decided to milk it with a lackluster sequel.
>>11492764naw, Varner was just contracted. That'd be like saying Four Horsemen or whatever their name is, owns the S7 designs they made.
but yes I suppose owning the DESIGN of the toy does not quite mean the same thing as owning the rights to reuse the molds, no. But that would be a piffling license fee at most. Lots of toys practically give their molds away for that kind of thing
>>11492791Like I said, conjecture. But we don't know the details of Varner's contract back then. It seems like Varner did retain some level of ownership of their designs, which is why they are allowed to sell prints and books featuring their concept art on their website. There is also the issue that many of Varner's designs were used for non-Playmates merchandise, which was the loophole we thought would allow Super7 to continue the Ultimates designs. These two things are what leads me to believe that the reason that Super7 never needed permission to make the Playmates designs was because Playmates do not own the designs at all.
>>11492816welllllll selling prints and books of concept art has always kinda been a thing you're allowed to do, you just make sure to put all rights reserved by viacom yatta yatta on it.. the tricky thing is if you added any new material, or tried publishing anything new that you weren't already contracted with them to draw.. then it'd be messy.
>that loopholeyeah what the fuck.. wish that had gone through. Playmates will suffer someday for what they've done.
Oh well maybe someone else will pick it up and start doing similar things, ideally at the same scale.
>>11487908Any word on if Splinter and Shredder will be sold separately, or if remastered Rocksteady will be due soon?
>>11492820I don't own the book to see if it has any legalese, but none of their prints has anything other than "Varner Inc" and the artist's signature. And the title of the book is "The Varner Turtle Sketchbook." It deliberately avoids mentioning the registered trademark that is the franchise name in the title.
>>11492790You really are butthurt about the sequel's success.
>Rock 'n' Roll Mondo Gecko
>No Heavy Metal Slash
Then again Playmates has been ran by retards ever since the early 90s.
>>11492565I would gladly never support or buy a Super7 product again with all of their problems and bad leadership. but god damn it if they don't make Heavy Metal Raph to complete the 4 rocknrollin turtles I am not sure what the future really looks like for me bros. please Super7. please
>>11492828gotta say that looks pretty good. playmates must have hired outsiders.
I hope the master license is taken from them since there's no reason to make mainline cheap TMNT toys anymore now, so
>>11492832ohhh okay, they went the other way with it.
>>11492864are you not? what's wrong with you.
>>11492914That is a good point I can't believe I never thought of.
>>11493081i wonder how hard a custom would be to make.
>>11493250Could your picture be any blurrier? That’s clearly shopped.
>>11493252>blurry>clearlyParadoxical
>>11493250Yes, because blue bellybomb is replacing the figure on the planogram. What do you tards not get about that? Walmart rotates all that stuff out. Same with that anime and bloody disgusting 4 foot set.
>>11488064Why did they make them bumpy anyway?
Is there any place to buy just weapons preferably hard plastic? Besides eBay of course. Or maybe some modern toy, I doubt it, that would come with a few? One that would fit well with standard playmates size turtles. I hate all this soft plastic weapon crap that's always warped and hard to do anything with. I just want some weapons that are hard plastic that won't be warped
>>11493360Stores like BBTS carry various weapon and accessory packs that, since they're meant for adult collectors, tend to be made out of harder and sharper plastics than the included accessories from toys.
>>11493372examples? i've only ever seen guns from them, in mcfarlane scale.
>>11493360be careful what you wish for. the neca movie figures have always had rigid hard plastic weapons, and the swords are known to break. It happened to me once, but I don't really care since it was just from the yoshi-and-saki set
>>11493447>are known to breakNo they aren't. You dumbass, you're making excuses for you hamhanding thin plastic. Fuck's sake.
>>11493447I'm not sure you'd get anything exactly in scale with them since the Playmates scale is non standard, but 1:12 should work most of the time.
>>11493455i can't even imagine anything looking good on the playmates toys, given their exaggerated proportions and stuff.
>>11493451i don't have any, like I said, so.. not sure how I'm making excuses for my hands.

>>11493462well i've only had ONE break out of dozens of them, so I think I can agree they're usually fine. but they are definitely harder and more rigid and thin, because they need movie-accuracy, there's no 'just make the sheaths bigger' kinda shit you can tolerate there
>>11493467He has been. And no shit it's been that way for weeks. They just did the resets.
>>11492864>successI'm sure you would be able to prove how successful it is with actual sales data.
You can't?
Fuck off then.
>>11493563I'm glad its success upsets you so badly. We're going to get so many more figures too.
is clearance good or bad?
>>11493604good for you, less good for the company/retailer
>>11493563Actually its always in the top ten best selling comics of whatever week its released.
>>11493588The only people upset about how well it has sold are the executives and the shareholders. The last time their shares were above $300 was when the final issue of the first series was released.
There is a reason that the sales numbers for the first one were widely publicized (1.2 million in the first year) but they are really quiet about how well the sequel has sold.
Enjoy your toys from a mediocre sequel though. It's not that different to all those NECA Halloween figures.
>>11493617The final issue was released almost two years ago. Are you getting it confused for the mainline IDW comic?
>>11493635is that roughly the same as all businesses, or is that particularly bad?
>>11493639No, Last Ronin 2.
>>11493635Wow cool, a completely meaningless chart from a moron shitposter. Keep crying that the figures are selling, there's rons more on the wat babycakes.
>>11493641That's shockingly bad. Bad enough to get them delisted from the NYSE, and is a big reason for so much restructuring at the company
>>11493644Oh god, they did make a third series. The second one was bad enough, but this is just furthering my theory that most Turtle fans will buy any garbage like the orange peel skin remasters by Playmates.
Not that being at the top of the charts in the current year means anything. It's like being the smartest retard on the short bus.
>>11493645Speaking of the smartest retard on the short bus, you might wanna calm down while you mash the keyboard. Apparently the IDW stock price has triggered you into a rage.

>>11497226If that’s the case, then why’d they mess up in making the turtles larger?
>>11497234They didn't mess up anything, the line was only going to be 7 figures and that was it, until they aold so well they were able to pry the license out of Playmate's clammy grasp.
>>11497226>There's nothing wrong with the body. You do know the turtles are made larger right? Your complaint is pointless.Guys let make a brand new April figure, with new sculpt and everything now that these turtle figs we made a year or two ago are a hit. Oh shoot we made the turtles too big from several years before and this new April figure we are now sculpting is now too small in comparison. Sucks we had no way of knowing how big the turtle figures were before working on this new, never been made April figure.
>>11497349Your nonsense bullshit brought to light. Good job.
>>11497358Nta, but he’s just saying that they should have made the April larger then to account for the larger turtles.
>>11496679Confirmed for smaller, maybe by like 25% is a good estimate.
>>11497364No, because that fucks up the scale with other figures.
>>11497095Splinter and Shredder would look so much better without pupils. Why not keep the white eyes on those two if they kept that detail on all the turtles? They should have painted Shredder's face black to mimic shadow aswell. The flesh tone peering out like that along with the googly eyes just look so rough.
Surprising that they figured out how to give Shredhead decent leg articulation without ruining the sculpt like they did with those new Rangerd.
>>11496971it already came and went?
>>11497095I wonder whom they contracted to sculpt the shredder and splinter here, and at what point they fired them and hired the person who did new rocksteady
>>11497096waiwaiwaiwaiwiwaiwait.
... they fixed the COLORS. Raph is no longer weirdly pale. Don is no longer weirdly red. Playmates actually FIXED the colors that have been wrong for like 15 years in their rereleases. it's a MIRACLE.
wasn't worth losing super7 for, but
>>11497128actually I do think the costume is part of what went wrong. She has this large collar you have to deal with, and it's hard to integrate her shoulders into her torso without leaving this unwanted ridge on top of them as if she's wearing a really thick shawl.
The other major issue is that the toon figures are simply not to scale. Both neca and S7 ran into an issue when they realized the turtles are LITTLE guys, almost all the other characters are much taller than them, so.... you start out "this is a good scale" then "shit, we can't make everyone else that big" so a lot of the toon figures are undersized.. and for April they tried to split the dif by having her be shorter (so she's not Shredder's height), but with a bigger head. but it didn't work. So then they tried to redo her, with a better head sculpt, and redid her upper torso and neck only, to make her taller.. but that also didn't fucking work, because now it's disproportionate. you had to redo the whole figure from scratch.
>>11497132neca does unfortunately often go for that "oh you like double elbows? well, here's a break in the sculpt, let's make that a second elbow" when... no, guys. No.
>>11497193yeah see, at this size, the turtles could actually be guys in costumes, like the movie versions.. which is why the movie turtles were taller (but still shorter than most people. asians, but not pocket-size asians.)
the 87 TMNT are supposed to be REAL short. Three Stooges size.. too small for any human to be in the suit unless it was all little asian girls. It's part of what makes them so special compared to other hero franchises. they're not the biggest and most imposing guys around, they're not 6'3" slabs of muscle with huge jaws.
>>11497211you can see here how if you keep the head and neck where they currently are, you could still fix this.. by raising the shoulders, raising the tits, raising the waist, raising the pelvis.. and then leaving the legs as they are.
>>11488630She had a weird episode to never have her appear again.

>>11497561Yeah, and future versions (IDW, 2012) suck. Though IDW at least paired her with Donatello, which makes more sense.
>>11497563Instead we get granny bebop and baby rocksteady…
>>11497595Yeah, because that's what sells. It's what makes the line enjoyable, it captures the silliness of the 80s toon.
>>11497563Alas, we'll never get Bloodsucker.
>>11497563There's a reason for that.
>>11497647What? NECA employees probably don’t even know those characters.
>>11497656Aren't you adorably stupid. You don't know the characters at all if you don't know why they haven't been made.
>>11497656More like they're all owned by people outside of Viacom and are no longer part of TMNT.
>>11496378>first time theyve done swivel anklesHave you never bought a fucking playmates toy before?
>>11497563I'm hoping FreshMonkeyFiction covers Cerebus in their ongoing Longbox Heroes Prestiege collection. Everyone else that could do it seems too apprehensive about Sims to give it a shot. FWIW Gizmo could be a pretty easy custom, but Bloodsucker is the real elephant in the room along with Monsterex.
The most ideal outcome for the two of them would be another 3P company like those guys that made that Krang all those years ago. Either that or Loosecollector.
>>11497579why do they always fuck up Mona and Irma? There's practically an unwritten rule to ruin those two at this point.
>>11497501Yeah. Didnt even make it to a second season AFAIK, just completely dead on arrival.
Why in the fuck are the remastered exclusive figs at walmart.com more expensive now? Or were they always this price online and just in stores they were cheap? Its not like they are being sold by a 3rd party either, all of them are being sold and shipped through walmart themselves.
>>11497682>FreshMonkeyFiction covers CerebusThey won't
So are the SHF turtles still the best option for toon turtles?
>>11497813No, the NECA figures are. The SHF aren't even cartoon related.

>>11497817What? They most definitely are based on the cartoon.
>>11497670i had so fucking many. still have em in a box.
ankles were almost always immobile. the few times they weren't, it was guys like Sewer Swimmin' Don or the Mutatin' Turtles, who had ankle hinging, but only along the pitch axis. even the roll axis would make sense, that's called an ankle pivot. but nobody ever does rotation along the yaw axis
>>11497394Scale within the line is more important than them scaling with other figures. Especially since there are so few toylines that match with the style of the toon Turtles line.
>>11497813Until another Japanese line does it, yes, they will be the best option if you aren't taking scale into account.
>>11498082Moron, I was talking about with the other figures in the toon line.
>>11498103They aren't toon Turtles at all. So no they aren't the best option for anything.
>>11498117Go away, NECAnon.
>>11497841No, they are in no way based on the cartoon. Their designs are completely wrong, as are their coloring. They're based on the licensing style guides. They're licensed bootlegs essentially.
>>11498128So like a twerking Spider-Man at a Mexican kid's birthday party?
>>11497813Yes and since they’re smaller they’ll actually fit in with your NECA figures size wise.
Neca is such an unbelievably shit and amateurish company that it's pretty dystopian how much control they have over TMNT merch. Literally a thousand times worse with less QC and more fragile than any actual bootleg out there
>>11498162Unfortunately I’m beginning to agree, them losing the license is the only way we’ll ever get good TMNT toys again
>>11498162It is pretty amazing that you wasted your time posting such stupid, ill thought out puke. They're the reason TMNT has flourished. They've released some of the absolute best TMNT merch we've had in 40 years. Stay mad.
>>11498138Wrong on multiple levels. Very dishonest.
>>11497817>>11497841SHF is a japanese company, these are based on the japanese TMNT ova designs. The plasteron do not match the 87 cartoon and the belts do not match the 80's ads designs. Faces also look more anime as seen in this VHS cover.
>>11498183Nope. They are 100% the merch designs.
>>11498183Bandai can't even get the details right on their Monsterarts and Kamen Rider lines. No surprise there.
>>11498163joytoy already mogged them hard although their scale is obviously something completely different, personally the only way ill ever buy another set of turtles is if yamaguchi does them again
>>11498228Joytoy ain't shit and did nothing of the sort. You really tried hard only to flop right on your face.
>>11498116Well her scale with other figures in the line is fucked anyway. The whole line is full of off scales. Maybe they should have planned ahead.
>>11498163Whoa, not until they make some more Archie characters. Villains, mostly.
>>11498199sorry, yes this was a merch add for the bandai TMNT super heroes action figures, no the OVA vhs. my bad.
>>11498243This. They should have very early on released another wave of toon turtles that are more accurately scaled to the human figures. But no, now all the turtles are stupidly large this many releases later and it’s fucked up the scaling for the entire line.
>>11498263No, now you're being a complete retard about everything.
>>11498268>wanting figures to be accurate in their scale makes you a retard???
>>11498243Maybe you should actually look at other toy lines and see that the toon line isone of few that actually gives a shit about scale and tries to make it all work within costs.
>>11498274Toy lines all have relative scale. You'd know that if you were a real collector.
>>11498277>the toon line isone of few that actually gives a shit about scaleLol. Lmao even.
>>11498282It seems like youve forgotten that youre talking to a mentally disabled/mentally ill abomination who sits here 18 hours a day defending the worst toy company of all time between diaper checks from his social worker

>>11498281There’s a difference between being relatively close and completely off. The toon line scale is completely off.
>>11498289The toon scale is not off. Especially from a cartoon that struggles to keep anything in check. You are wrong.
>>11498183I want modern figures based off the Super Turtle designs so badly...
>>11497687He just seems too niche for the key players to both. I thought he was a shoe innwith NECA for instance, especially because of the monster turtles lime, but they didnt bite at all.
>>11497701why?
>>11498292No, the 1987 toon turtles were never as tall as the humans and that’s a fact.
>>11498297Eh, maybe if the Archie line lasts long enough. But give us Armaggon and Maligna first.
And Bookwurm.
>>11498297>whyLook up the creator
>>11498305To be fair, he's long past the point of giving a fuck. He'd probably license Cerebus out for the right amount of cash.
>>11498306True, but NECA seems hesitant to shell out extra for licenses and likenesses lately. Still no Halloween 1 Michael, still no Roy Scheider likeness rights for Brody. But who knows, maybe they’re more likely to for TMNT.
>>11498337You disingenuous asshat. Scheider's estate won't allow his likeness to be used. It has nothing to do with money you faggoty fuck. And you know that, and you still can't come up with anything smart enough to troll about so you vomit that up over and over.
>>11498478Yes, you're a troll reposting your lame bullshit. Woopdee doo.
>>11498476>>11498478Wow, have you never had to tighten up joints before? Must not be a real collector.
>>11498476>>11498478Mine isn't like that. Guess you wasted your time trying to shitpost.
>>11498305Anon I already acknowledged that in the original FMF post. That's why I think they're the only game in town who would bother. Boss Fight is too PC while NECA probably thinks its too much of a gamble and not worth the squeeze. Aside from FMF I could maybe see Loosecollector taking a stab but his bread and butter leans way more towards monsters and roided up 90's heroes. We'd sooner see a modern day Ultraverse toyline.
>>11498302Monsterex would be way better off as part of the TMNT Universal Monsters line. I want that sort of detail on Monsterex anyways. If we get an Archie version it would be better than nothing, but it would look alot blander.
>>11498645MAN that's a troll. Stop responding to it.
>>11498673are you suggesting he lubricated the joints?
