/labubugen/ - labubus general #1(?)
of course we all (me and you) love labubus, and they are our favourite toys.

question of the thread: have you been to the ren faire? why or why not?
Anonymous No.11488924 [Report]
for me, yes I have been to the ren faire. it was a great experience, besides from the Schutzstaffel logos. I never understood why the labubus are associated with vikings, but I enjoyed my time.

labubu is an example of a shitty unnatural trend.
For anons who are curious i will explain.

1) It blew up suddenly and instantly instead of growing up
2) Lots of shitty people involved (tiktok scammers and NFT-like investorbros)
3) There is not that much behind it. It feels like Iphone or some other stuff like that. Look samey and bad. In other terms - souless.
4) Lots of hate because humanity in general can detect unnatural scummy nature of such things
5) Will die out and become "lame" soon

Good trends that are hyped can be for example Transformers LEGO or Pokemon that have solid ground under them and solid support, despite these trends having bootlegs investorbros or hate.

You wrote all this stuff and don't know anything. They blew up because one girl from Blackpink wore one on her $1000 bag and everyone rushed to copy the toy because they can't afford the bag and think a Labubu will make them feel young and hot and famous. "Lots of shitty people involved" I wouldn't call a bunch of randos trying to exploit a trend "involved". You could focus on how Popmart itself actually sucks but you didn't do any research.
"Lots of hate" it's because edgelords like you jump up the ass of any trend that women like.

Boomer here, my niece who is 6 years old is into Labubu. I don't quite understand how this work, there are so many variations with broken English description. Like WTF does "big into energy" even mean.

Which Labubu to get for my 6 yr old niece? What size, line, etc. What makes certain Labubu better than others? Will a 6 years old understand the difference between good one and random one?
Anonymous No.11502105 [Report] >>11502111 >>11502134
>>11502067
"Exciting Macaron" are the original popular ones, and "Big Into Energy" are the current popular ones. "Have a Seat" are sort of popular too but they seem less hyped since they're in a different pose.

Each series are a set of blind boxes with different colors in it. These ones specifically are plush with a vinyl face/feet/hands and a keyring so you can wear it on a bag. Be careful when shopping because there are other kinds of Labubu blind boxes which come with small vinyl toys and those are NOT viral.

If you buy one through ebay you have a really high chance of getting a fake. You can also deliberately buy a fake from aliexpress; these are called Lafufu by fans, and are still popular, especially if you get a really weird one. Authentic ones are about 50, you can get a fake for about 25. You will not be able to buy a real one from the website or from a Popmart store, because resellers are buying them all.

The fakes vary a lot. Some are pretty passable, and some are ridiculously bad, with the entirely wrong body, bad paint, etc.

For a kid, I would suggest a Big Into Energy since it's the new hot shit. You can pick an opened listing but a little kid would probably want to unbox herself, so I suggest buying it closed. You don't know what color you get and you can't check the authenticity that well though.

The authenticity check is also apparently hacked, so you cannot use the site to confirm it's real, last time I checked. I don't know if this has been fixed yet.

I would suggest either shelling out for an authentic one, or, if you don't want to bother with it, get her a full case of fakes and let her go ham unboxing them. A full case will have every color and has a chance at the rare. I would be up front that they are Lafufu, she might be fine with that and just be excited to get so many. It's actually nice that the community still accepts fakes.
Anonymous No.11502111 [Report] >>11502134
>>11502105
Anyway, that's my suggestions. I bought one for my niece as well but she's older, so I made an effort to find an authentic one. I bought one out of box that looked real in photos, and it matched the photos. You can kind of tell in person because the vinyl is pretty high quality on the real ones. Most sellers just use stock photos so it's hard to tell if they are trustworthy. And if you ever search posts on other sites about how to tell if it's fake you find SO MANY posts from people who bought fakes and are asking if they're real. There are TONS of fakes out there.
Anonymous No.11502134 [Report] >>11502226

Thanks for the explanation

So it's IRL gachagame? The unboxing is part of the experience? I was gonna ask my brother to take pics of the Labubu my niece has so I don't buy her doubles lol. Is amazon listing legit? I'll get her one Big into energy. It's $54.92, so the price seems to be about right. Whole case of 12 is $378 lol you guys are crazy. So, you can only get the rare gacha one by buying a case, or can you get it from singles as well?
Anonymous No.11502226 [Report] >>11502242 >>11502258
>>11502134
Yeah it's gacha. There is a massive industry of them, PopMart is pretty much all blind boxes.

A full case doesn't guarantee the rare, and you CAN get it through singles. It's more for people who want to get a full set and increase their odds for the rare (or for youtubers). It's not worth it unless you're buying cheap fakes or you manage to get one from the official store, a full case at resale prices is too high lol.

The unboxing is definitely part of it for people who are into their hype, since it's the excitement of seeing what you got that drives the videos. When my nieces were that age they were really into the surprise aspect. However, if your niece really wants a specific one then maybe it would be more rewarding to get it for her. And a little easier to tell if it's real. You'd have to go to ebay for that.

I'd be suspicious of the Amazon listing, because that is definitely not official PopMart pricing; it's reseller pricing. The price for a single Big Into Energy is $27.99. But they do drops and shit and it's insane trying to get one through the official store. That's why the market is such a mess. Even on Amazon, other sellers will add their stock to the official listings, so you don't know if you're getting legits or fakes.

The Big Into Energies are only available through their official app, so you could try joining that if you have time to check it a lot, but I honestly would not bother if you're not used to doing this kind of stuff. There's mega threads in some of the PopMart subreddits that track drops.

Honestly, in your situation... If you buy the Amazon one and it turns out to be an obvious fake, at least the return would be easy? And if it's a not-obvious fake, it doesn't really matter, as long as it looks good. A bunch of the "fakes" are just factory rejects anyway and as good as real. The price is jacked up but if you buy anything close to the actual retail price from anywhere except PopMart then it will be fake.

>>11502226
I'm sorry for the long posts btw, I don't know if it's helpful, but I really understand being in the position of trying to get something cool for someone and having to learn a whole dumbass system to get some hard-to-get bullshit lol. I don't buy Labubu but I bought PopMarts before they blew up, so it's the only reason I know even a little bit of this shit. It's genuinely insane.

Aside from the Amazon listing, which would be the easiest return, you could look on ebay; try to find a local seller to your country with their own photos and reviews that mention authenticity and sound like they were written by real people. Over 50 is about what you'd expect to pay there too for a real one.

Wait I forgot I could post images too, here is some stuff to watch for.

Like I said earlier some fans really don't care if they're fake and have a name for them (Lafufu= Fake Labubu) so if you are worried you've ended up with a fake and give it to her anyway, she might be fine with it as long as it's not one of the horrifying ones with a human ass under the skin.
