I don't feel like that distinction means anything. And meanwhile, we have retro versions of characters that are so half-assed that they shouldn't have even bothered, like the Cobra Trooper, or are instead cartoon accurate, like Cobra Commander, Cover Girl, and the BAT.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805937520936.html this is the best deal if you just want a bunch of beer cans, Americans don't buy it but you get a lot of shit for $3. The chocolate Syrup is like $2 for three, for example. For some reason there's a lot of these being sold as earrings? If you see something like the Starbucks being sold as a earring, you can just, unscrew the metal part and it's a 1/12th accessory. The red thing in front of the chicken is the "1/12th" scale candy bar they sell, don't fall for it they're like the king sized candy your grandparents spoke about.

Except the Crimson Strike set wasn't a "real" con exclusive. It was a "pulse con" thing. Like Starduster, who you can also still get.
This set is an SDCC exclusive, like Once a Man Cobra Commander, which they are more likely to overproduce because of the drama last year surrounding OAMCC's lack of availability.
It could go either way, but I'm betting they made more Cold Slither sets than they have for SDCC shit in the past (they've gone balls deep marketing this shit for months, too) but the demand will be generally lower and people won't be able to scalp it, it won't ever sell out, and it'll be on sale by December.

In most cases, the Valkyrie neck ball was too small for the ML heads. They do sell replacement neck double-ball joint things of various sizes on ebay that you could use to fix this, but I'm a little paranoid about making semi-permanent alterations
So what I use is this, based on a suggestion I got from here or somewhere else years ago, where you slip one of these things over the Valkyrie neck ball joint, snip it off the excess rubber with scissors, they blast it with a hair dryer until it conforms over the ball joint
With some of the heads in the pictures I had to add 3 layers of that shit, going up a size or whatever each time, but most of the time 1 or 2 layers will do.
And there's basically a lifetime supply in this specific pack that I bought. I've made quite a few unmasked Cobra troopers, and I'd love to make more but I've kind of exhausted the Marvel Legends pool, and I've experimented with Star Wars Black Series, but those heads kind of have a shinier quality that doesn't match the Classified style in the same way that a good ML head does.

And as a side note, my favorite of my valks is this one, using the head from Valeria Richards.
This is the only one where I had to make permanent alterations because the neck ball joint used for that originally figure was shockingly small and the cavity inside the head was so shallow that I had to scrape out a good deal of the inner plastic to make it fit. This was the first one I "completed" and there's probably a simpler way I could've done that, so this one basically is a permanent change more or less.
But that Valeria figure is pretty cheap these days and I've gotten an extra one for posterity's sake.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a remote shit about the Cold Slither push? It's a perfect exclusive, but the eoisode was shit. The whole gag was the Dreadnoks didn't even want to do this and it was that era where Cibra stopped being competent. They're a "heavy metal band" written by Kinder & Bryant who I am 100% sure had never heard a metal song in their lives when they wrote that stuff. But now we get this set, Super7s set, some d-lister metal musicians(couldn't afford anyone with talent, Hasbroke?) doing a shitty album, and a comic. And some cross-branding on the packaging for that failed doll line which is never coming back because "muh shared universe" or something that no Joe fan cares about(does anyone even remember that? It's been dead since the 80s), nor did the cartoon ever acknowledge it. It does not need to be a big push, Cold Slither is not going to be a big deal

If you don't like it, just don't try and get it, the same as Once A Man Cobra Commander last year. You don't have to be into every niche thing that gets an exclusive figure, and if exclusives are going to be a thing, isn't it better that they're niche things not everyone may want, instead of important characters in their main look, getting stuck as a limited-run exclusive not everyone will have a chance to get? That being said, the costumes are easy to make and you don't run the risk of something that won't sell, since everyone loves all things Dredknocks and not run the risk of pissing people off by making a key character/fan favorite a SDCC figure the bulk of your audience will never own.

The reason I didn't buy the Tiger Force 2 pack is because I already own Tripwire and the Tiger Force version came with half as much stuff.

I feel like there has to be a retro card Roadblock eventually, and I hope it's sooner rather than later. It literally only has to be a redeco of the Tiger Force version, which is a redeco of Heavy Artillery Roadblock but with the correct weapon. We were almost there just a few years ago but they had to give Heavy Artillery Roadblock that stupid ass Fortnite gatling gun. How hard could it possibly be to crank out some Tiger Force Roadblocks but with the old Heavy Artillery paint job, slap them on cardbacks and call it a day?

She's the last female character from the Sunbow era to get a figure, but Pythona somehow didn't get a toy until a Collectors' Club exclusive in 2016.

Unless Hasbro start making figures of comic OCs, their options for further female figures at this point are just alternate costumes for characters they've already done, or newer characters from the 2000s and later.

That's been kind of a theme with a lot of GI Joes, I've noticed. The retro card versions are a good representation of them during their early years in GI Joe and then the more video-gamey re-imaginings are them later down the road (although I still don't use laser guns with them).

I can't help but love the GI Joe movie but I admit it was a bad direction for the IP to go in. And unsurprisingly they started trying to backtrack from it immediately after it came out. I'll still tr to get Pythona if I can, though. I already got Nemesis, albeit I missed out on Once a Man Cobra Commander.

GI Joe has always been in a weird place in terms of the visual adaptations to me because I fell in love with the cartoon and didn't have the comics, but the comics have better lore for the characters. I wish we could have the best of both worlds from an alternate universe where we had the cartoon that was somewhere in the middle between the Sunbow series and the comics.
Anonymous No.11502323
>>11502319
Well there's different continuities for G.I.Joe each with their own tone and personality. That's not really unheard of for franchises that have been around for decades. There's room for 1960s goofy Adam West Batman and there's room for The Dark Knight.
What I wish for a new reboot is that they just picked a direction and ran with it. Not try to "reconcile" the old cartoon and comic like the live action movies did. I'm the opposite to you, I grew up with the comics and only recently started watching the Sunbow stuff on YT. Boy, is it jarring. It's funny, though, and I accept it as its own thing.
But make something new with a consistent tone that is recognizable as G.I.Joe and includes the essential iconic stuff but is its own thing. It's a bit too late for another continuity with Snake-Eyes as a traumatized Vietnam vet anyway.
It's also good to remember Hamaverse isn't the only "serious" G.I.Joe out there. The old UK comics were also quite serious in tone and they were also good. Proving you don't need to be Hama to write this stuff. I think the UK creators had earned their chops making other military comics, though. I think you just need to hire people with the suitable resume. Not a committee of some hollywood randoes who try to write it as generic cape shit.

I guess there's multiple anons who missed out on it last year. For me it's something I can live without but hopefully someone here who really wants him will get their chance.

I missed out on Serpentor originally and ended up paying out the nose to get him but it was well worth it. I always saw Serpentor as a bit of a heel to Cobra Commander and I was never a particularly big fan of him (even though I was a goody two-shoes Joe loyalist I always rooted for Cobra Commander when he scrapped with Serpentor), but when I saw the classified version with the Air Chariot I knew I had to have it even though I had to pay the eBay price for it, and it's been one of my favorite display pieces ever since. That and the Hiss are the only pieces in my Classified collection that have never been put away in storage that I've never stored away since I bought them, although that might change sooner or later because I'm gonna need room for other stuff soon.

The hardest part of having a toy collection for me has always been knowing when it's time to bag up the toys I have out and cycle in some other ones, which is even harder when there's always new figures coming out and G.I. Joe is not even the only line I collect.

I get why people hate Cobra Commander being one of them, even if I like it myself, but a lot of the complaining about Cobra-La tends to come from people who seem completely unaware of just how weird the cartoon was, or comic-only guys talking about how it wouldn't fit there, which everyone already knows and agrees on.

>>11502528
Golobulus actually just gets away, and bringing Pythona and Nemesis Enforcer back from falling into a pit wouldn't have been impossible, but what little we know of Sunbow's plans for a third season of the cartoon involved Cobra being defeated, and the Crimson Twins organizing ex-Cobras into a new faction called The Coil, plus the mutated Cobra Commander still being out there somewhere. If it had continued, Hasbro may have demanded they do something that bore more resemblance to what the toys were doing in 1987-1988.

Also, Hasbro did have more Cobra-La figures in development for if the movie was more popular, some figures like Hydro-Viper and Nullifier are rumored to have been repurposed from being Cobra-La toys, and there are pictures out there of an unproduced vehicle.

By the time the DiC cartoon started, Hasbro weren't doing anything with Cobra-La, so they just maintain continuity with the Sunbow show by using the opening episodes to get Cobra Commander back to a humanoid form and then never mention any of it again.

I haven't read the most recent issues yet, but from what I've seen, we still don't know anything about who or what Cobra Commander was before Cobra-La took him in, but I think >>11502732 is right, this version of Cobra Commander definitely seems to have some military and intelligence experience in his background.

I don't dislike the Hama origin for the original comics, it works in that context, but nothing else really uses it. Across the various iterations of GI Joe, Cobra Commander is very much a multiple choice origin, I think there are more things where he's the Baroness' brother than there are where he's a used car salesman.

The current social/political climate may have Hasbro afraid half the audience would see a Cobra Commander with that origin as the good guy, too.

I always loved the idea that Cobra Commander had been a car salesman at one point. I think the ethos of his motivation is that the American dream failed him and so he made his own dream, and the only way to achieve that dream is through absolute power. I think him being a used car salesman after serving, working his way toward opening a business with his charismatic personality, and then getting screwed out of everything is as good a starting point as anyt for his descent into evil, using his ability to talk people into things to build an international terrorism empire with a mix of genuinely loyal stooges and guns for hire.

I always see him as a non-supernatural Randall Flagg from the Stand, essentially.
Where along with serving in Vietnam and becoming jaded because he saw some jr. Charlies get burned to ash or raped or whatever, he had just done basically a little bit of everything a person could have done, whether it's being part of cults, corporate boardrooms, hippie communes, militant factions, militias, freedom fighters, etc. and he could just never stop himself from making it all about him and what he wants and he always manages to do that, but also ends up destroying the foundation of whatever the group was in the first place
so eventually he just has to make his own thing

If it's a $200 vehicle, then it'd be a perfect Haslab with three to four figures and tons of unneeded extras at $300. Which is why I'm so afraid it'll actually end up as a Haslab.

But if they put out the Drednok's trike as a mainline release, I think I'd be willing to let it slide. (also new Zartan with Chameleon)

>>11503688
I'm sure Hasbro would love that too, they specifically like the animal and deluxe packs because they're more cost effective or something. I'm sure if they could squeeze a tiger in a box, they'll find a way as they've already crammed a Snake Eyes with a bear.

Though the love of animal packs gives me big hope for a Spearhead and Max set.

Finally! It's no Stiletto Starscream, but I'll take any kind of Crossover Prime I can get. I still think the APC would've been a better fit for him, but I can see that being really difficult to turn into a robot.

>But a Classified MOBAT would only hold one figure
Eh, they crammed space for a figure to ride in the HISS tank and turned the Snowcat into a pick up truck, they could've fit two driver seats into a Mobat. Most toy tanks are all hollow space anyway, so it'd be nice if a toy company actually put that room to use for once.

Ramer's Hunter tank is the closest thing we'll ever get to a Classified series MOBAT. The original MOBAT came out at a weird time where the US's current MBT was facing replacement and there was rampant speculation about what would replace it. The Mobat is based on an experimental tank that ultimately got passed over, and so was the Mauler which replaced it (the HSTV). Ultimately the US's next MBT ended up being the M1 Abrams, which was sort of the basis for the Patriot Grizzly.

I don't think Hasbro would want to do something that's the same size as a tank that's already on the market, because they the Haslab projects are meant to be a flex. I think when we do get a GI Joe tank they'll go with the Mauler. A 1/12 M1 Abrams would be way too big for most people to display, and the MOBAT would not be impressive enough, so the Mauler is right in the sweet spot, plus it has two armored seats for the driver and commander plus a hatch for the gunner up top. It would make for a very impressive display environment without completely dwarfing the HISS.

I question how much of an influence the Ramen tank has on Hasbro's decisions knowing full well that if they DID release a tank of their own it would most certainly be a more impressive...and expensive offering. Though the Ramen tank isn't exactly cheap and can easily rival Haslab prices when you add in any of the accessories.

That said, the Mobat was always more of a long shot, but now is confirmed to never happen with Steeler gettin shoved in a two pack. But the Mauler was always the cooler tank and could easily still happen. The fact that it's an unused 80s prototype kind of makes it perfect for Joes because it has some real world designs and anchoring, yet is sci-fantasy enough to uniquely recognizable. The Grizzly is far too much of a straight Abrams, and also came out so much later in the ARAH run to be iconic to the Joes.

Still, if for some reason Hasbro does start pumping out some sort of 1:18 Joe line with redesigned/updated vehicles, I'd love to see both the Mobat and Mauler used. Mobat could be the medium workhorse tank similar to the Sherman while the Mauler could be the newer heavy combat tank like an Abrams. There's room in the Joe-verse for multiple tank classes and I wish that kind of variety was embraced in the franchise instead of just straight rereleases.

Also we need a Classified Armadillo, there's no reason not to do one.

For my 1:18 Joe collection I mixed in some tanks from other lines to diversify the tank classes that GI Joe and Cobra use. I got the Chap Mei True Heros "tank" (actually a Bradley IFV) to be the Joe's foil to the Cobra HISS which I see as being more of an IFV than a true tank, so the shrunk down Bradley is opposing vehicle put against it and it looks fairly in scale for the GI Joe vehicle range (which are usually a bit smaller). For Cobra's foil against the Mauler I have an Iron Panther from the Sergeant Savage line, which is weird enough to fit in with Corba's sci-fi aesthetics and is a good match against the Mauler both in size and the size of its cannon. And then I played a bit of musical chairs with the MBT on both sides. Since the Patriot Grizzly is similar to an M1 Abrams, I bought the Blue Box Elite Force M1 Abrams Beastmaster and cast it in the role of the Patriot Grizzly, and for the actual Patriot Grizzly, since it's slightly more sci-fi / futurist looking than a real Abrams, I'm going to be painting it black with some geometric gray camo accents, and it will serve the role of Cobra's MBT.

The only reason I haven't finished my tank projects yet is because I need to get some GI Joe and Cobra tank stickers. Once I do I'm going to go to town on them and I might even do some mods to the Chap Mei IFV

I still bought the thing, even though I was annoyed by that
And the Snow Cat could've especially used an extra figure but they didn't bother

I sincerely doubt they'd pack 4 Dreadnoks into a Thunder Machine Haslab, it'll probably just be Thrasher, Zanya, and an updated Zartan that will get rereleased in different colors a year later, and then some extra bullshit like mechanic cabinet with a bunch of tools or whatever

Well, considering they've said they're probably going to start doing remolds of the Haslabs 3-ish years after they release, I have to imagine that the potential of a stripped-out HISS may be coming soon like a lot of us have theorized. Without the figures and some of the lights and gimmicks, I can see it being maybe a $200 thing.

>And it'll probably do pretty well.
I imagine. It is a nicely done vehicle, and I certainly want more of them. At least one, maybe two. They'll probably do it in another color, though, likely blue, but that's fine with all the blue shirt troopers and Vipers, though.

Yeah, I'd be okay with the blue version.
The only question would be if they include a Hiss driver in just different shade of red, or go for Rip-It, or the Hiss Driver slight recolor along with a matching Hiss Gunner.

I've got to imagine they'll at least throw the driver in. They haven't released a single vehicle without a figure in the Classified line, have they?

I just wonder what they're going to do for the parts that were stretch goals, like the extra canopy, the missile racks, tread covers, etc. Since only one set came with the base tank, IIRC.

I do like to have diversity in hot chicks, but there's been quite a few amazing blonde woman ML headsculpts.
I'd already have four but sadly, while really good looking, the ML for Husk has too neutral of an expression, and the long hair would definitely hinter movement.

Apprently some people who bought the AWE Striker at Hasbro's SDCC booth are having issues with it? The common issues seem to revolve around pegs being incorrectly sized and not fitting well, particularly on the roll cage and M2 machine gun mount not staying in place, and the antennas. A few youtubers were showing of plastic stress on some parts while trying to assemble it, and I've seen two Youtubers trying to install the M2 and it just refused to snap into place.

Maybe since these are early production models that's why they're having trouble but it is worrying me a bit. I get that it's difficult to put things together from behind a camera although something rated ages 4 and up shouldn't be that hard to put togehter. Any hope that Hasbro will have those problems fixed before it ships out later this year?

After dealing with the Cobra Gunner in the Rattler I kinda get why nothing snaps into place in terms of the roll cage, just because of how nightmarish it would be getting figures in and out of there.
I guess you could just glue it in place though but it looks like a pain in the ass it couldn't be easily removed

I preordered a pair of AWEs to put away for my nephews and I'm a little worried that if the fit and finish on the final release is a bit crap, it could be a bit frustrating for a kid to play with. On the bright side they won't be getting theirs for a while, and there might be some community fixes figured out by then. Since I'm getting one for myself I can also see if I can design a 3D print that fixes the issue with the M2 and print it out of some sturdy material that'll hold up to kids playing with it. If I'm really worried about being able to deal with additional parts I could open them up to preinstall and repackage before gifting them.

Looks like you have linear space underneath the wings, if you pull the hard points, but the vertical tails on the C.L.A.W. are gonna be an issue. Centerline is a definite no-go because of the landing gear.
That stupid dorsal gunner position, however...

Right now I have a four kings scenario with this line, I was on vacation for the period where the CLAW, SNAKE Armor, and Cobra vs. Joe Diver set were in stock, and I just completely missed the Trench Viper.
Coincidentally all 4 of these have had totally fucked distribution where they still haven't shipped after like 6 months (and even longer for the Trench Viper) so I'm in this FOMO limbo of wanting all four, but waiting for a non-guaranteed restock is annoying, but scalper prices are currently ridiculous because the only people who have them are pacific region sellers who got the ones the chinamen skim from the factories.
At the very least the CLAW is finally shipping, I got one of those last night for 20 dollars above retail, but this is a very annoying situation that I've never experienced before in my decades of collecting.

True that, it would get in the way of the landing gears as well as the tail fins but those could be foldable. Having the CLAW mounted on the top and replacing the dorsal gunner would work better. We do have real life examples of a jet or a smaller shuttle or whatever get mounted on top of a plane usually to provide assistance in flight so that the smaller jet won't have to consume as much fuel on its own.
I mean Hasbro definitely won't do it but I just think that kind of cross compatible gimmick is really fun.
