Is it normal for Superion's knees and outward hip ratchets to be pretty soft? I mean, after tightening some screws they're slightly better and it can still do crazy shit like this (and without the need of the weight of the other two Aerialbots to counterbalance, no less) but these ratchets still have like half the strength when compared to Menasor's.

The first Quetzalcoatlus skeleton was found in 1971 and consisted entirely of a few wing fragments. That's it. More bits and pieces, including a partial beak, were found between '72 and '75, but it wasn't until 2021 that we finally got a near-complete skeleton. Given that Skydive came out in 2000, so all of the references they would have had available to make him would have been purely guesswork by paleontologists.

Also fun fact: In Paradise Lost, either Sin or Death is described in exactly the same way as Scylla is, and the other one is described as a whirling vortex or something like that. I always thought it was interesting that Scylla and Charybdis got adapted into wholly different characters.

I have the OG Sky-Byte (was a grail for a long time) and he's awesome to look at, but very, very clunky as an action figure. I'm glad I have him as he's one of the nicest painted toys I own (every single sculpted detail is painted and the white plastic even has this gorgeous purple colour-shift effect) but I do kinda want the new one just 'cuz it looks more fun to actually pose.
Side note, I got Selects Cordon for dirt cheap recently, (very well) pre-stickered and with an extra weapon. Never handled this mold before but I love it, feels like a more refined version of ER Wheeljack, who I also like a lot. Plus he's a police car so of course I love him.

Anyway, I got plastic model paints and I tried to do some fixing.

I am really surprised at how ridiculously thick the paint on the part (the one with R) is. I did like three coats already and I still couldn't fill the height differences between the original paint vs the bare metal underneath the paint- I won't try.
I can probably redo the whole piece if it is not pinned, so yeah that is not an option.

I also realize the problem it's not so much of the polish but tt/hasbro don't prime when they paint over metal. It is very different when dealing with plastic vs metal when it comes to painting.

Though I found it really strange considering TT also makes Tomica. those are diecast but their paintjobs are really tough unlike transformers figures.

Anons what are your opinion on an upcoming Bruticus?
there more vortex reviews i see - the more i like him and Bruticus is overall an epic cool guy to have around.

QC isn't perfect on min (or maybe I'm just more picky about these things) I wish Silverbolt's wings were less floppy in robot mode and the chest panel closed better when in plane/torso mode. Also the completely unneded protusion in the landing gear makes storing Superion's head more of a hassle than it should be as it doesn't sit flat easily inside Silverbolt's body, so you need to be extra careful to not bend the antenna when closing it.

But all in all I'm really liking this thing.

I feel like a new Metroplex is right around the corner, especially since they just released Trypticon again and his previous mold is really old now. In my case I bought the Ark as my first titan because it was on sale and having a transforming huge Ark with a robot that turns into teletraan is such a fun novelty. Megalo on the other hand is one of those toys you wouldn't care about if not for the extreme discount, but after buying it for less than half the price you just felt your money was well spent. Giant chunky robot with a ton of articulation and it looks fantastic.

I don't know how many Energon fans are out there, but Energon Omega Supreme also has to compete with the G1 original having already a titan figure. I seem to remember many people buying the original Energon one as a stand in. I guess being compatible with a new Energon Optimus can help, though.

This set is a QC trashfire.

The only joints that aren't floppy on the Ground Soldier are his neck and forward/back hip swivels, and the slots on his backpack won't even tab in place because of plastic flash. His car mode hood can't stay tabbed into the front either.

The Elite Seeker isn't much better, he's got so much plastic flash that he can't transform smoothly, and the ER Seeker Mold is visibly suffering from some real bad degredation at this point, especially in the shoulders.

Oddly enough the Legacy repack of Ramjet I got had the best QC of any of my ER Seekers. Tight joints all around and the sides of the chest even snap into place, which I've never had before.

In from UT to CW, clear plastic was mostly used for insets rather than entire parts made and painted for it. Car doors had windows with frames made from normal plastic while the windows themselves were cast in clear plastic, as opposed to the entire car door just being a solidly-molded piece of clear plastic.

Clear plastic has no business being made from frame or load-bearing pieces, such as the case with Animated Swindle in particular.

Got AOE Prime. It's alright. I did want it, don't get me wrong, but I don't really see the value (got it on sale for 35), transformation is good but nothing mind-blowing, the lack of the giant gun is also dissapointing (I know it's supposed to become the shield when he gets the sword, but they still included an arm blade), molded plastic colors look a bit better in hand, but the paint just dissapoints me for a leader, the old voyager had better paint distribution and nicer colors.

On the positives, I like how bulky he ends up, even if it's inaccurate, the giant sword and the possibility being pretty great all around.

AOE Prime in his evasion alt mode used one of the giant guns he used in DOTM as his standard rifle, and he kept it as his gun when he got his then new custom truck alt mode. When he gets his new arm guards with the sword, he also gained a new shield that used the giant gun as a base. From what I can tell, the door supposed to work in theory. But with how large the pieces make up the body are, TT/Hasbro factory can't assemble them precisely enough to make the design work 100% of the times.

On my copy, the main 2 pieces that made up the body have 1mm gap between them and the door's tabs are barely 1mm themselves- they can't reach locking mechanism. They should have gone with a hard locking system or magnet.
Not going try to fix this. I did some works on Tidal Wave's knees. You can definitely tell whatever tools they are using in assembly; they can tighten the screws s lot tighter than most people can by hand.

Though, with how large the Titans are, without serious defects I doubt many people would double dips the same figure with additional improved functions.

got my widowmaker today. both modes look good, I like the head a lot more than I thought I would, but the articulation is bad and the qc is ASS. her hip joints are floppy as shit and the little tabs in her knee joints were either oversized or fitted wrong because it was impossible to get her legs straight which made it impossible to properly transform. I ended up having to sand them down a fair bit so the car wasn't coming apart at the seams

Went over some fixes on Omega Prime. Any I'm missing anything?:

-Shaved the T, taking into account space for the back and front plate.
-Swapped the springs for primes hips with ones I took from a pen. Not really sure of it works. I can't hear many audible clicks, but it retains it's stance with all the armor and after testing, it's not damaging the ratchets.
-Shaved the connection for the wings on Magnus and now they go in and out perfectly.

So, finally got my hands on the Transformers Universe (2008) Vector Prime! I wasn't collecting when the original came out, and I specifically went for this version of the mold for a few reasons - one, I like all the black (especially in alt mode), two, this version is the only one with a painted sword and hilt, and three, this one has no electronics (don't get me wrong, electronics are cool and all, but they really don't age well, especially if they're NIB and the original batteries have been left inside all this time...).
I still can't believe how much toys have shrunk over the years - both Universe and Legacy Vector Prime (without upgrades) here are actually Voyagers, but you'd never guess they were the same size class by looking at them - especially since the older mold has more features packed into it than the newer one does.

Both characters in a more neutral pose - now that I finally have a version of VP that uses his original mold, I can do a proper comparison between the two. Glaring shrinkage aside, the newer VP is very clearly missing a bunch of details due to being a Jhiaxus retool - he's missing the skirt armor, his wing-cape's armature has far less articulation, his shoulder pads are tiny and don't angle up all the way, and he's completely missing the wrist guards; he also doesn't have Safeguard, though that was to be expected due to Hasbro's apparent modern allergy to minicons. On the other side of things, the old VP isn't exactly flawless, but he's certainly better off - while he lacks the modern advances in articulation (namely the rotating wrists, a waist, and ankle rockers that I've become so accustomed to these days), he can actually rotate his calves and his forearms; the latter being important because it gives him the articulation to cheat some cool slashing poses with his sword that would have normally required those previously mentioned rotating wrists. His sword, while looking pretty cool, is made of a soft plastic, and it sadly doesn't seem to want to fit in his hand all that well; his wing-cape parts are made of the same soft stuff, and the right one on mine came slightly warped right out of the box due to the way he was packaged.
Safeguard is neat, and turns into a little spaceship that doubles as a gun that can mount to VP's wrist gauntlets, and the Cyber Key, while now pretty much just decorative now that he has no electronics, still looks cool and has a backing piece not present on other Keys that features the symbols of all the other planets from the show, painted in shiny chromed silver and outlined by the bubbles on the front part of the Key itself.

Alt mode, and the primary reason for me picking this version of VP - the almost entirely black spaceship looks badass. This thing makes the Legacy version's ship mode look kinda dinky by comparison - VP's wings extend further to the sides to make it look wider and more imposing, he's got a proper bridge with a port on top to mount Safeguard for more firepower, there's a button just in front of the bridge that can launch a springloaded missile, and the top part of his backside looks a lot more armored than Legacy's exposed wiring. His sword also has a dedicated place to stow (in the side of the nosecone - the hilt makes a stabilizer that mirrors the static one on the opposite side), and VP's toes become a pair of double-barreled cannons on the ship's underside. In fact, the ship's underside in general looks far better than Legacy's - pretty much the only thing the newer VP does better in alt mode is that it has actual thrusters on its back, while the old one only has a set of vague rectangle shapes molded onto his thighs in that general area. I was really into Lego but I played with Lego more as action figures, preferring the figures and accessories and animals to building stuff with blocks.

I got out of Transformers around the end of Transmetals 2 and Beast Machines, and didn't get back into it until college with Prime (first "modern" tf was, of all things, Cyberverse Movie Soundwave,) so it took me years to really appreciate vehicle modes. I feel like in the 90s you had more of a split between the type of boy's toys you got - I was into dinosaurs, monsters, and animals, and after your post I asked a couple friends and they said they weren't "vehicle" kids either. I'll admit I'm one of those people who hates TFs being packaged in vehicle mode. I display almost all my figures in bot mode, and so being packaged that way makes it TONS easier to spot glaring QC problems, especially on the figure's face and chest.

That said, this doesn't excuse Hasbro's usual packaging from having boring graphic design (I hate the plain, red, blocky "Transformers" logo), cheap materials (though this has admittedly improved over this past year or so), muddy, over-rendered art, and a general lack of any imaginative bios/lore on the backside. Seriously, I just picked up the Hook and Long Haul two-pack a couple days ago, and it's gotta be one of the most boring boxes I've ever seen for a toys at such a high price point (plus, closed boxes suck).

A lot of the new toy brands are flash-in-the-pan licensed gimmicks (stuff like Garten of Banban,) which we had too, but we had a lot of other brands that are still on the shelves now, like Power Rangers, Transformers, TMNT, DC/Marvel, and stuff like that. just got mine, and yeah what >>11499079 said. he's completely fine, but at some point between finalizing the CAD model and the final production model, they made two changes that don't impact the figure unless you autistically try to follow the instructions to the letter:
-the hands changed and don't fold in flush (the same reason animated lockdown's hands can't fold out all the way)
-his chest doesn't open the full 90 degrees. this could maybe chip the paint on the chest or head if you rush it because there's barely any clearance now.

This one's been a pain in the ass to work on: Gobots Herr Fiend using a Dead End and Knockout. I'm so done trying to kitbash an arm assembly that I'm just gonna drill 5mm ports on the back. Just a bit more sanding on the hood's hinge and something to bs a monocle with, and it'll be practically ready for paint.

These guys are cool but not $90 cool. They are clearly both voyagers, with deluxe engineering. $20 upcharge for some pants is lame. They couldnt just throw those in huh. If they were bros this set would have been Leader class, not Commander. Pretty greedy. @ $90 I feel slightly ripped off
