KEK, honestly when I made this knoe list, I never thought that we would have Ninja Gaiden figures from Revoltech (I assumed it would be more likely to get SHF or Figma at best), now not only I have the Amazing Yamaguchi Ryu Hayabusa from NG2 and Ayane in preorder (I would have preferred her DOA classic outfit but eh) but now they will really make Ryu from Ninja Ryukenden, I'm speechless.

It's very possible. Digital sculpting makes the process easier so I think we are seeing more entries where slight retooling can push out one or two extra Revos. The Mazingers, Getters, most of the Rabbit Squad, Claymore, etc. Maybe Garou and Silver Fang share some sculpt or is a good starting point. They have increased production significantly but are cost cutting on time and molds here and there.

So is it the pc engine or nes? Or just a ryu figure in general? Why not use the doa ryu?

Since they intend to do multiple(?) variants of Unkval they probably want sales of those to be boosted rather than opening the possibility there are second runs. It's overall future sales vs random popularity. And who knows how strong that hype actually is compared to the original production. Like if it was double the volume then yeah that might be dumb but if it's a portion then it's probably small change to start a s second production.

What they might do instead is plan a new Unkval that's very similar to the first one but different enough they might get people to double dip. Meanwhile they get max preorders on everything because of their no reissue policy.

Speaking of Unkval, it surprised me when I put hairdryer on him to loosen him up and then I felt the plastic, I did not expect it to feel sorta gummy to the touch, that made me fell in love with that fucker even more. Since they already made improvements to the newest one I would prefer a 2.0 version. The new one has armor covering the massive gap in the elbow which was one of the very few flaws on the first.

A 2.0 with some extra gear and fixes would be better than a re-run.

You know the MGS3 AYs are looking so good I'm hoping after the team get through with all the NG Ryus and friends that MGS gets a similar treatment. Probably didn't get the license to only do one game.

I think the fun way to go is chronological because I believe MGS5 comes next? For major titles with Solid in the name anyways. I do have Harley and I did have that problem with the eyes, they were stuck so I had to buy metal tweezers because the plastic thing that came with Harley to move the eyes was shit. I had the blue version and she has blue stain marks over her belly, legs and under the arms.
Other than that a problem that I'm having is that the wrist joints are smooth (I think) so the hands can fall really easily, that's a problem I had with Moon Knight, Hayabusa and Deathstroke, also Moon Knight lower body is loose now.

OPM, SF6, and something else I forgot were all announced at once in picture form at one event. I think Yugi was revealed as a sculpt? Maybe it was on Jump first. EVA-01 was shown at an event first I'm pretty sure.

What I came to realize is that depending on the IP there seem to be different rules on what can be revealed how and when. DC and Marvel it was never without a sculpt until Isekai HQ which is an anime character so clearly have different rules.

AY were using a mix of Revolver Joints and joints from Revol-Mini for a while. I think Harley Quinn or War Machine were the first to switch completely to GEO Joints but some earlier AY had no ratchet joints like Iron Man.

Some reissues of older figures had Revolver Joints still for different reasons but that too have stopped. They have smooth ver for all joint types now.

I’ve gone back to the two and all I’m saying is that Mantis is significantly less dense than Unkval, to the extent that if this thing were more aligned with Unkval’s build, the pointy bits it has would probably be pretty substantial or resistant to warping/breakage, but Mantis doesn’t have any part that dense or large. I do think her claws might warp if stored under a certain amount of pressure or the wrong angle, but you’d need to go out of your way to put them in that sort of position.

I think it kills the one thing Kaiyodo has over other companies. Action figures' main focus should always be on the action. Even an anime schoolgirl you want to be able to take the poses a character like that could take like sitting on a chair or the floor and that requires a decent range of motions or gimmicks on the skirt and most action figure do not bother to do anything. That's fine back when these figures were around 4k, but now going past 10k frequently I rather have them be as articulated as possible.

I don't believe the same thing. I think the aesthetic of a Figma (better faces, too) with the articulation of *nearly* an AY is fine by me. Then again, I am ultimately not as much of a fan of AYs as I am their character selection. Sometimes they just hit properties other companies won't. If it's not him, I'd bet NG4 simply on the fact they can use the game for marketing. But Platinum is known for fun rival bosses so I'm sure he'll be good if they go that route.

Rearranged my Amazing Yamaguchi shelf, I know it’s not drastic. I have Amaizng Harley but it feels like she’d be really out of place here. Some thoughts:

-I fear for the longevity of my Iron Man. He’s already getting a bit sticky and the metallic red paint is fading. He’s only been in a display case for the past two years. It also makes me worry about Spidey.
-I forget how different Deadpool 1 and 2 are until I put them next to one another. With that said, I think they’re both great and their particular quirks put one over the other on a good day.
-Psylocke is a lot of fun to pose but fitting her on that shelf with that hair is tough.
-Carnage, on the other hand, begs for effect pieces and I can’t help putting them on him.
-War Machine is big and bulky, but all his tiny joints are so weak that none of his weapons can hold up. I need to find some sort of alternative.

Hoping I can get my hands on an Arkham Batman at some point, and I’m eagerly awaiting the Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden revos. Then I’ll start rethinking this shelf.

Aiz is up for PO and I notice something that I think really demonstrates Sugimoto's shortcomings as a sculptor.

Her back is exposed skin(dumb design, did it have a reason like for the wind powers?) but the top half is raised and the separation point is thick. Looks like she has a fleshy armor on and not skin that should transition smoothly. The edge should thin out, not be rounded. I feel like this should be basic stuff for a pro.

As an owner of VToys Cyberpunk Robin and God of War, I think their bucks are really solid, not overly articulated, but blended well with unique sculpts and soft goods. The fabric for Robin’s jacket did unfortunately stain the plastic underneath, and it’s a figure that can be displayed sleeveless, but if you’re not worried about the store rod thing for the ninja, it’s not much of an issue. They also consistently have a great spread of accessories.

Kaiyodo usually uses approximations whenever they wanted to make a figure from a certain IP but can't license it. For Guyver, They made Elemental Hero Neos instead, if that's acceptable to you.

The rerelease for this Harley finally arrived and I’m happy I got a version of the figure where changing hands isn’t cancer, but the faces are definitely different and leaning towards uglier. Left is the original and right is the rerelease. I’m now watching out for any amiami versions just for her faceplates.

I find his shoulder joints to behave differently than other AY. The peg rotation into the body are practically nonfunctional with the joints so deeply embedded. So I end up using the ball-peg into the shoulders dominantly to position the arms, create more gap by hinging the joint upwards.
First I hated the shoulders because Yamaguchi made one articulation point useless willingly or unwillingly, but turns out you didn't really need it.

Yeah they have something against barrels with holes in them so you could stick an effect with a universal peg, like all other companies. The effects are always molded to the specific weapon tips.

I didn't think the lack of eye shadow looked that bad in the original photo, I'll never see it as close as this comparison. The mouth does look a bit fucked, thougg. I found a reissue on nin nin and got it before seeing this comparison but honestly, what ever. Looks like I'll have the reissue and the isekai to choose from.

FYI I think nearly all Batman Beyond AY have their bicep swivels stuck. Don't twist them out of the box since the PVC on this guy is on the gummy side you will likely twist off the peg.

Use heat and pull out the peg then put them back in. I bet Kaiyodo will post a warning if they haven't already.

Yeah it's a fun figure for sure. The softer plastic and the open trigger hands (thumb and middle finger aren't connected in a loop) mean this guy can hold just about anything. A feature I wish every action figure made would have.

Not great at holding batarangs though, I wish it came with dedicated hands like this.

Just a bad matchup of materials.
The torso's painted soft plastic that the clamp eats through over time.
I've also had Fraulein Rei's bandages stick to other plastic parts while in a parts container.
Rubber and plastic don't mesh.

One of my Yotsuba's knees was also loose, so I totally welcome a 2.0.
Danbo's still solid though.

I figured out why AY Beyond looks the way it does. Yamaguchi only knows about Beyond from one place, the Arkham Knight game that he clearly loves. I'm sure he tweeted about the game time to time. The one in the game looks like shit so when he made his, he tech detailed the shit out of the comic suit to be in the same ballpark.
