Waiting for the leak for the collective internet shitstorm. Hope it's so poorly received it will force Lego to rethink their philosophy and business strategies
How much of your childhood Lego did you keep? I'm thinking of selling most of my bricks and just keeping a little build with sentimental value.
>>11508745I think I kept all my figs, definitely one of the ones I still have complete is my imperial transport shuttle. Other than that I have an alien ship? I had a few bionicle somewhere but most of my bricks/sets are just like spread over different boxes. I haven't kept any set together
But I do plan on getting Monster Fighters/Hidden Side to put them on display in the following months.
Do /lg/ers actually display their Lego? Or do you just store/take it apart after building?
>>11508745I still have all of it but in a separate box because the condition of most pieces is not up to par with my current stuff

>>11508745I have whatever I owned in one of these bins. Basically just generic bricks that came with the original bin and some small sets from around the time. I don't think I'd get much from trying to sell what I had.

Mark my words, amidst WW3, 2028 will be the year of Lego's renaissance
I really wanna collect some spooky shit for this fall, I currently snagged the Hidden Side train for relatively cheap and I have a chink Evil Dead set coming along with the Monster Fighters haunted house.
I want to get more MF stuff because I wanna do some Van Helsing esque shit but the castle is at the cheapest $260 and not sure it's even original. So I'm debating whether to keep getting Hidden Side sets (the castle for that is also expensive af) or try to slowly gather the few MF sets I find.
>>11508739The set that killed licenses forever
>>11508819its not even out yet retard
>>11508815If your not purist to the point youre ordering fake Lego just part out the vampire castle , possibly leaving out the particular expensive elements and replacing them for inexpensive replacements(like changing an expensive fig with an OC replacement that fits the same role)
>>11508819More like the set that killed original themes forever. After every mousecuck takes out a mortgage to own the latest grey sphere nuLEGO will be fully locked in. Nothing but black box licensed themes of boomer and millennial media from wall to wall, with the Soi Star reigning over it all like a LGBTQP+ Eye of Sauron.
>>11508745almost all of it
i got a lot of star wars stuff in the previous decade i'm thinking of eventually selling and just keeping the yellows i had when i was a kid and the early fleshie stuff
maybe keep some of the sets with the more rare clones, like the og phase 2 rex
Do you have a dedicated Lego room?shelf? box? I'm struggling with not letting it take over my entire office and it's starting to feel like clutter. Thinking of paring down and only keeping the shit I feel really attached to and contain it to a single piece of furniture. I think something with shelves on top and cabinets/drawers at the bottom would be ideal. What's your organization/display setup? Any recs?
i want lego to make this game again but with actual top-down racing controls a la super sprint or super off-road instead of slot car crap
>>11508827Bro not many people are going to spend 1000 dollars on a lego set. You ain't going to see it at walmart or target. Even rich people are going to think twice about that. They didn't get rich spending that kind of money on toys. Mostly likely it will be extremely mentally ill addicted consumers that buy it.

>>11508854I have decades worth of lego from my family. Most of it was mine but I also have two brothers who were into lego. They both outgrew it and when they saw me organizing it a few years ago they just let me have their old stuff. most of the collection is in really good condition surprisingly considering the run down condition of our other toys. But anyway, your question. my expansive collection is currently in storage while i am in between houses for the next year or two. Under normal circumstances it does take up an entire small bedroom.

>>11508951Buy star wars sets for grey bricks, buy minecraft sets for green and brown, sell the minifigs, build your own castle.
>>11508960Don't buy licensed themes for parts. Better off buying actual castle sets
>>11508745I gave it all away to younger family members. So eventually when I got back into Lego I rebuilt but with new sets. Was honestly disappointing seeing how much cheaper modern Lego plastic is to the 80s/90s stuff. Also had to go through the era of brittle brown/dark blue/dark red. It honestly killed my belief in Lego being a quality product.
>>11508804There will be no WW3 you fucking zoomer.
>>11508739I honestly hope it fucking bombs. Year by year Lego has been treating Star Wars like it's some peak thing and year by year another shitty Disney product kills the IP. Lego just needs to become affordable again for kids.

KEKAROONY!
Just finished 3d printing a 1/4 of the 2552 raised baseplate (too big as a single element), with some improvements to the underside. A bit of sanding later and I'm actually surprised that the studs connect and hold as good as they do. Might actually research molding and thermoforming plastic if the rest end up as good as this one, and doing some custom raised baseplates of my own.

As a kid I had no idea why they were pulling neon spiders/scorpions out of the ice. I'm guessing they are supposed to be aliens a la The Thing? Are there any official descriptions or comice or something that addresses the intended "lore"?

>>11509081You lost ya know
>>11509017Theyโre cool sets but too expensive in the aftermarket. Why not just make a castle moc? You can make it in a retro style. Old sets were very basic in technique. And if you are unsure of how to recreate you can find old instructions online or buy instructions for cheap.

>>11509024I find the yellow castle too old for my tastes, I like classic space but 70s castle sets have aged less gracefully.
>>11509039Yeah 6086 definitely seems the most definitive but most prices I see are in the $300 range.
>>11509051I admit that this probably is the logical choice but I just don't care for the aesthetics of new lego. It's not even a nostalgia thing, never grew up with almost any sets from this era.
>>11509088You're right, but beside lego I don't have much else in the way of hobbies so I can make peace spending more money on old plastic. Even then I feel like it probably would come out to as much or more, baseplates alone are like $75 now.
Was stacking 100 1x1 round plates and tiles that serve no purpose and aren't visible at all, and 50 2x1 plates that aren't even visible, instead of 2x2 bricks, really necessary for this set? Without them the set wouldn't have 613 pieces, but about 450.

>>11509210>They're really goodI saw them on Allegro and I've been toying with the idea, how many pieces, like 2x4-s can you fit in one of these? Can you remove/rearrange the separator things inside the tubs?
>>11509282Each bigger box contains a top, white box split into 8 compartments and a transparent, bottom one that can be split with plastic "separators." There's one long separator and a total of 6 shorter ones. You can remove any and all of them, depending on how you want to arrange them.
In the area marked by pink I placed 60 2x4 bricks. So, the full bottom, transparent compartment should fit about 480 2x4 bricks. (maybe more, if you remove the separators). I use the top one for smaller pieces and plates.
You can also stack them.
I bought the two 3-story versions. Each one of them has 3 big transparent containers and 3 white ones.
The only flaw - the modular separators are quite flimsy, but if you put the bricks in there, they shouldn't move around.

100% people look at the piece count on the package to determine value. this is obvious consumer manipulation, to increase the price.
speaking of hidden Easter eggs, the pink fast & furious car has a red slope you have to put a sticker on, which is completely covered. there's no feature to flip-open a hatch to view it, it's just plain covered up
Exabricks has a Lego built Baxter building on his instagram story. Doesnโt look like itโs a modular scale. Looks microscaled. I wonder if that could be the $120 18+ set for January.
Or it could be a tease for next yearโs modular. Doubt itโs just a Fantastic Four tease, seems specific to the Baxter Building.
I've started to really like the 4+ sets because they kinda do what I wish mainline lego did, simple builds that get the idea across, but not coated in 1x1 tiles to hide all the studs and inflate the price. And in general, you get a bigger toy out of them for the price.
When did lego bring back base plates? I have been out of the loop, and basically stopped collecting lego, but recently saw lego brand base plates in stores again.
>>11509712They were never gone. Modulars are always built on baseplates.

>>11509118I'd advise you to build all castles you're considering buying in Studio first, because most of them turn out to be nice from basically one of two sides, but with the insides being pretty empty and the remaining sides to be complete afterthoughts. 6085, 6090, 6086.. you'll see they're mostly empty space. I think you may want to grab smaller sets first to make sure that's really a collection you want to start. Imo castle is pretty expensive for what it offers you, stock-wise.
>>11509930So, do all you Basketball Anons have springs in your legs?
>>11509935Never thought to try that, thanks. I think my problem is that a lot of smaller castle sets are just wagons or a lone tower, feels hard to really seek out any of them. Just really fucking sucks how bad prices have become, love the look of the dark forest sets but the base is like $500 everywhere I look. With space I at least find some decent lots, fortunately past the smilely era with Blblacktron 2 less people give a shit about themes like explorians, insectoids, or life on mars.

Layer height: 0.16mm

Hotend: 200C
Perimeters: 2 (walls are 2 lines thick)
Top/bottom layers are 5 solid layers,
Triangle infill @15%.
Flow: 85% (Ender 3 V2)
Extra perimeters if needed: yes
Extra perimeters on overhangs: yes
Avoid crossing perimeters: yes
Detect bridging perimeters: yes
No supports, only modifiers to make the studs completely solid. Machine is decently calibrated but I got some stringing from jumping from stud to stud.
Material is a natural/transparent PLA, a bad color for photos (but in my experience the best for PLA moisture/storage problems), I'll attach some bricks in the next images to better show tolerances.
Modifications on the baseplate are:
The base isn't a thin ~1/3 plate anymore, I extruded it in to be slightly taller than a brick (because I'm dumb and rushed it). It's completely solid on the underside, and completely infilled inside. I did not bevel the corners.
Each part weighs in the 100-200g. They clutch decently, 3 of the middle top studs were enough to hold each in the air (other studs also clutch decently but the leverage becomes too much for such a low number of studs).
>>11510094Some black parts to better illustrate it. I'm in the process of rebuilding my childhood sets so excuse me for the dusty elements.
>>11510130Tolerances were good enough to connect all sides of the plate to whichever other desired part.
>>11510150A bit more on tolerance. Brick is nicely flushed with the printed surface. Some stringing here and there that still needs to be removed, but overall I'm pretty satisfied -- especially for a first prototype with basically stock settings on the slicer/printer
>>11510153the darker line just below the brick in the previous image isn't a gap (although there is slight gap), it's the 5 solid layer.
>>11510165..and I guess I should show the underside as well. Solid with markings from the bed.

put this together today, was pretty fun. the crab thing is cute as shit
Have they ever given a real reason as to why Lego has never done 1:1 reissues of older sets? They give us bs about the reasons sets cost so much is because of the designers. But what about just printing more copies of older stuff that you still make all the parts of?
>>11510020>>11510179Kill yourself, dogfucker.
>>11510308>Have they ever given a real reason as to why Lego has never done 1:1 reissues of older sets? It's simply not possible.
>>11510308Probably some bullshit about retired pieces and colors.
>>11510308>Have they ever given a real reasonNot really, and they never will fully disclose it. Market research is basically a trade secret, they won't ever reveal the entirety of reasons, we can only infer, speculate and swim through what's likely and what's propaganda.
IMO, one of the semi-valid reasons is: not all parts are produced at all times, and then from the ones that are, you gotta run pick a set of colors to run for whatever time. They have a set of IIRC 1-2k different elements that they keep at production at any given time nowadays. Back in the 90s apparently they suffered problems from running 3-5k different molds at the same time. It was too costly according to some sources.
Nowadays imo it's because they control the nostalgia/vintage market and they don't want their 'collectors' to stop giving them cash, they make more long term money by releasing hyper expensive exclusive stuff, using the 'pay this or end up without your beloved zelda' strategy. People who invested a lot in lego would be mad and stop buying newer sets.
>>11510327Except it is? There's nothing preventing old molds from coming back, except for their will.
They should do Themed classic box sets. Like, a big box full of random parts that fit with an original or licensed theme. They did a couple for City and Friends, but these were just sets that came with a mostly empty tote. I mean have the big 2x4 brick box, full of Star Wars or Minecraft related elements.
>>11510353Great idea, now to make them all exclusive gwp for $300+ sets that last for one weekend (:
>Bionicle 25th and Ninjago 15th next year

>>11510472>he doesn't remember the Christmas post
why did nobody tell me the 2025 renegade was kino?
i can see why disney doesn't let lego make inhouse space themes, the colours alone mog anything out of star wars
>>11510499Yeah it's one of the better sets of the past year or so for sure. Been waiting to see it on sale but honestly might just snag it next time I have some cash to burn, especially since it retires next year iirc.
>>11510308They actually did this in the early 2000s with the Legends line, which included some of the classic larger pirates/castle/town/western sets. But I think they could do that then because they still had functioning molds for the older parts, and some of the sets were only a few years old anyway.
>>11510333>Except it is? There's nothing preventing old molds from coming back, except for their will.Anon's image references a scene from the iconic 2000 film American Psycho, where one character insists that a thing is simply not possible, causing the other to exasperatedly demand "Why not, you stupid bastard?" He has likely included this image to draw a parallel between the scene and LEGO group's perpetual non-answers on the topic, and the frustration fans of discontinued sets feel as a result. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

it's a harsh lesson to learn, but thanks, Lego, for teaching me about un-obtainable goals
What's happening with the DC license for 2026? >>11511492I tried getting into it, and into 40k minature painting, but found I only had enough money for one plastic hobby, also I enjoy the creative / design aspect of LEGO moccing which isn't really a thing in scale modeling
>>11511492i dabble in both, lego sets are on average more expensive than model kits (wargames not included) but has a fairly high cost of entry for all the supplies to get going where with lego you just get the set
i'm sure there's some overlap, but die hard lego fans probably aren't going to go get a model kit, and i don't think scale modelers have much interest in lego's offerings unless they grew up with it
>>11511492I do both. Thereโs an English History autist in his 60s on YouTube called Lindybeige who made a video 8(?) years ago about making terrain and houseswith a hot wire tool and insulation foam. Some information we learned from the Ninjago panel at SDCC:
>Season 4 of Dragons Rising is coming in 2026.
>More Legends content and sets are planned for 2026โthe sets have performed very well.
>Anniversary sets are also coming in 2026.
>Garmadon will not be returning in the near future.
>The live-action film is progressing well. Doc Wyatt implied it will adapt the pilot storyline. It has a big budget and is tentatively eyeing a 2027 release.
>Set releases in 2026 will be differentโexpect a wider variety compared to previous years.
>The Ninjago team acknowledges the older fanbase.
>Dragons Rising may run for 2-3 more seasons before a new series takes its place. Ninjago isnโt going anywhereโit remains evergreen.
>A new videogame may be coming.
>2026 will represent the past, present and future of Ninjago and we will get a clear picture of where the universe is headed.
>More Chima lore is on the table but a crossover is not a priority, might be explored in another series (hints at new Chima series?).
>>11511835>More Chima lore is on the table but a crossover is not a priority, might be explored in another series (hints at new Chima series?).I mean, this makes lots of sense, Chima is their most succesful original theme next to Ninjago and if Lego didn't end it in favour of Nexo Knights I think it would still be Today, like none of the "Ninjago killers" after Chima had any success, Dreamzzz is the only one that will have 3 full years but I feel Lego is forcing that longevity.

sorry, Lego. this was a bad decision.
Lego should not do random collectibles in such expensive products. 30$ is the lowest buy-in, for 1 poster? WANTED: Bad Lego Decision-Maker Who Suggested Random Pieces Would Be Neat 1,000,000
there better be plans for some kind of Lego Store trade-ins (bring your unwanted/extra tiles to trade with the store employees) YES that means Lego needs to make extra Luffy posters for the kids who only bought 2 sets and did not get the main freaking guy with the emotional-plot-important poster! Lego needs to suck it up and do it. bu-but trade with your f-friends? NO, Lego. no. there WILL be sad kids who did not get a Luffy poster (and yes, sad Adults-Welcome, too)

it is 100% different than those Harry Potter cards which were shown to be random and collectible by the kids who bought them with candy. a fun whimsical way to include merchandising of your story, in your own story.
it's insane that Lego chose to do One Piece sets, a show filled with iconic emotional moments, and leaves out the most important one. (unless you get lucky? seriously?)
>>11512628Lego wanted a reason for people to buy more than one set. they assumed everyone would want the big ship, and then just stop there. it's got all the main crew, that's cool.

>shanks minifig

I know it's a movie-based wave but why couldn't we have a new comic 2099 minifig...? Scarlet Spider and especially Symbiote Peter wouldn't have hurt neither. Or a Spider-Girl Mayday...
>>11512665Yeah it's super fucking scummy, I'm glad I got lucky and got Luffy's poster with the going merry but it shouldn't be up to luck. What they should have done is put posters in the relevant sets (mihawk and don krieg with baratie, arlong with arlong park, buggy and alvida in buggy's set, luffy and kuro with the going merry) Then they could put gold roger's poster in the party bar set and that would be a pretty fair distribution.
Another thing though is that as far as I can tell the posters with the going merry just go into a little basket that sits under the deck, surely it would have been better to put them on the walls or something so you could actually display them.
>>11513307>2099 and Gwenthose are literally the only interesting ones in this wave, the rest are shit.
>>11513314there's no sea king in the set to bite it off
Also what could have lego done differently, cause he does still have 2 arms for most of the flashback. Could they have put 2 torsos in the set, one with 2 arms and one with only 1 arm, instead of using the cloak to cover the arm like they do in the promotional pics.

>>11513516hats-with-hair were a mistake.
when you see hats-no-hair next to them, they all of a sudden seem silly
Lego now needs to re-do ALL hats to include hair. it's a nightmare mess for them
everyone in this Sherlock Holmes set looks bald next to the kid with the hat
I'm all out of ideas for mocs
>>11513525Not so bad for men, they might just have short hair. But this way or another, Lego headgear generally lacks versatility because it's on the same level as hair. You can't put hats on hair like it could be done with Playmobil. Hair can't be in a helmet. You always need helmets or hats AND separate hair if you want to show your figures without helmet or hat. Have a girl with flowy hair? Too bad, you can't give her any of your 157 hats without her looking stupid. Have a hat with hair? Well, you can't use it for figures with different hair. They need to rethink the hair situation. The 90s had faces with bangs on the forehead. But they would always go with some headgear. Take that off? Too bad, no fitting hair, your minifig now has a tonsure cut.
What would be a good solution???

i wish we got basic minifig packs more often
>>11513777Back then, minifigs were just something you can throw into a set in abundance. Today, minifigs are the only thing that sets Lego apart from its competition and they put them on a pedestal like they are some valuable gem.
>Oh, you just bought an expensive Lego set. For this deed, Lego awards you the grace of receiving two minifigs. What? You want four? Minifigs don't grow on trees, mind you. They are handcrafted and handpainted. Molded in only the finest danish workshops in limited quantity. This is the same plastic and the the same bad printing technique as the other pieces. And they want us to think these are suddenly rare collectables.
>>11513792i think the excuse these days is because they keep adding dual molding and leg/ arm printing when they really don't need to
and that's arguably not even a proper excuse since some of the most insane minifig printing was in the 90's space lines

they kind of do this with Speed Champions right now, like you mentioned. helmet and hair both need to be included. maybe make a new helmet with hair out of the bottom?
get to work, Lego. red hat + brown hair, blue hat + brown hair, red hat + black hair, blue hat + blonde hair.... eventually we'll get a good amount
What happened to just2good?
>>11513232It is a fun build and an excellent part pack. I actually used two in this moc which was an exercise in kit bashing dark blue sets. I only removed the windshield and tacked parts on the underside and to cover the seats. The wings are taken from set 31039 blue power jet but placed backward and modified to fold up. The dark blue quinjet was the main part donor, but this thing is more than 50% bigger. It also fit a 70826 Rex-treme Offroader inside.
>>11513525They should bring back minifigures with hair printing on the back and the bald spot on top because it is funny

>>11510554>>11510553Well this is what Lego should be about, but it's rarely about this. 90% of sets seem to always be a car or a fucking mech. You never get enough big pieces to build buildings and structures. Its like 20% of every set is 1x1 plates and studs.
>>11509147First stack looks like Buzz Light-year colors. Yes it's cute, but come the fuck on. One of the worst builds I've had is the Pacman machine. You need to make like 50 stud pegs made up of 3 pieces and there just for the little dots which are not even yellow.

Unironically curious for people's thoughts, not just shitposting:
What are your thoughts on alternate plastic building block brands? So much criticism of lego's prices and quality on the internet these days, but have you given other brands a shot? If not, why?
Also, do you or do you plan to mix your lego bricks with say gobricks? Or will you keep different brand bricks totally seperate

I've never bought a bricklink designer set, but does anyone else really dislike them? I think they lack Lego quality. They all lack that expert builder touch and designer quality you expect from Lego directly. I also feel like they are using it to just satisfy fans of old lego themes in some way so they don't have to make any more Icons sets. Like since Medieval Market Village, it seems like they are not going to make any more castle themes because they have all these half baked designer program sets. Well personally, I don't want any of the castle sets in the designer program because I don't think they are very good.
Death star figs
>>11514472It's the lack of any new prints and new molds that makes them feel less premium. I may not like most of those sets but it's not like I like most of the real sets either. >>11514524Fuck off French Shill

>>11514665City Space Science Mech. Is that the polybag? I kind of forgot about that one. I saw a bunch at my local Bricks and Minifigs and tried to get my friend to get one for himself. The minifig has a very similar face to my friend and green is his favorite color, to a creepy degree. Seriously, everyone who knows him knows you can talk him into getting almost any trinket if it's green.
I actually got 4 of the City Space wave, including the first polybag. I just really dig the unified style of design architecture and suits. I always like to think that printed oval on the back of the suits is actually a built-in jetpack. I actually got the intersteller ship and the Asteroid discovery set because I liked both ships so much. The newest ship is a bit much for me though.
