I keep saying Skeletor and the Snake Men meet Cobra, requiring He-Man and friends to go help the US government/GI Joe, could work great.
Of course they could also botch it like this lame Transformers crossover, by only using A-listers instead of characters who make sense for going to Earth like Gwildor and Marlena.

I wonder if this strategy of stretching out the vintage stuff even works? if you are here for vintage only are you like "oh dang it, no new vintage figures this year, better buy bumblebee Man-at-arms tho!"
Anonymous No.11509345 [Report]
>>11509334
It doesn't.
I'm not here for "vintage only" but even the non vintage shit i want they aren't making.
All they've effectively done is made it so I only buy like 1 or 2 figures a year, and gotten bored to the point I might even just drop Origins entirely without finishing...jump to Masterverse or Mondo or maybe just buy restore my vintages and save up to complete the actual vintage line. Or hell, maybe Classics, at least there I know I'll get a Goat Man and that Strong Arm and Batros will fit in with normal figures instead of (if they get made in Origins) only being compatible with other toon figures

I think the only strategy that works on are people that are literally going to buy everything anyway, the type that are less likely to drop immediately after vintage is done
Anonymous No.11509346 [Report]
>>11509334
I can't speak for everyone, but my focus has shifted from " gotcha catch em all" meaning full complete line of Origins to "eh I'll get what I can find with little work."

I'm not a vintage completionst, so I might grab something that really excites me or shows up cheap from a flipper. But I'm way choosier about what I buy.

Speaking of which, can anyone convince me to pick up Snake Armor Clamp Champ? I played with Champ a lot as a kid and would like a variant. What do people think of the new one?
Anonymous No.11509356 [Report]

>TQ: What are you currently most hyped for?
I am hyped for Dragstor, Stingor, 200x, and for the execs that came up with the idea of a Transformers crossover to get colorectal cancer.
Did anyone with a Sodastream as a kid mix different flavors? Lemon and lime went together good. Orange and lemon was nice. Combine all three and they were amazing. Add rasberry to that last combo and it was awful.
That is the Transformers crossover.
Man-at-Arms is a 6' tall man. Bumblebee is a 20’ tall robot. This just looks like MAA went to SDCC in a Bumblebee costume.
Fucking retarded. Fuck whoever thought of this. You fucks think you hate snakes? It took a few years for your hate to grow. Mine is at maximum power immediately. I hate this gay shit with the force of a billion supernovas.

Let's see. Hypothetical MOTU fan is so obsessed with vintage, he's willing to wait 5 more years to get all vintage. But at the same time, he will ditch the line as soon as he gets what he wants and never look back. AT THE SAME TIME, he keeps buying stuff like $300 Snake Lair, the same stuff that he will consider pointless and now worth his attention as soon as he has Gwildor and Rotar.

Does that makes sense to you?

I recognize why some are burnt out on the crossovers, but I have to admit the transformers effort is getting my goat. Skeletron looks incredible and might be the best Skeletor variant we've gotten in origins yet, and even though I'm irked by the use of dark green in place of black on Bee at Arms I'm genuinely tempted to buy him anyways.

On the flipside that is sort of a problem for me. I've gone the last 5 years without being able to settle on any one version of MAA or Beastman because we've gotten so many good options.

After seeing the MotU X Thundercats reveals at SDCC that were just Panthor Man, another Panthro and another Lion-O, what do you think the odds are of this line ending without such core characters as:
Wilykat & Wilykit
Slithe
Jackalman
Monkian
... then Jaga and Vultureman would be the next most core.

For MotU characters, I was most looking forward to Kittrina and Chief Carnivus. Catra as a catgirl would be a natural too, which I suppose would necessitate a crossover She-Ra.

>what would you pitch to Mattel to finally get your remaining favorites?
If it takes Goldenrod for me to get Multi-Bot, then I guess I will accept that.
And to get Blast Attack, I propose Goldenrod's exploding partner. Give him Multi-Bot's green head in fleshwith a yellow helmet, but make the silver part look more like a head lamp, maybe pre-tool that head so that the silver part can be molded separately. Give him Trap-Jaw's arm with new pick-ax and jackhammer attachments, Rio Blast's opposite arm but with a fold out drill. Call him Mining Boom.

Im very happy with the new 200X reveals. It seems like 200X got sidelined for so long, so it's nice to see it back and realized with such extreme cartoon accuracy. That said I still get the sense that all the Netflix stuff from Nu-Ra onwards was a major wash. CGI-Man unforutnately got caught up in that mess too. Come on bro. This thread has been more about stuff hypothetically could come out than anything thats actually real.
SDCC got a lukewarm response to Transformers, anons were expressing fatigue with crossovers in the thread.
For reals though, Scooby Do X Motu made me laugh and I would genuinely rather buy them than shoehorning in more 80s IPs.

And a thought about crossovers. What about people who don't like or care about the other IP in the mix?
I know about Turtles so I got a few.
I know nothing about Transformers and don't see myself buying any of these. Kind of the same with Scooby Do except I know I would impregnate movie Velma and Daphne.
The point is if crossovers are supposed to boost sales by targeting multiple fans, I wonder what data there is about fans of 1 brand that end up buying none.

my main gripe is if the crossover stuff is too different or recognisceable in terms of style.
The MNT stuff had too many overly specific turtle flourishes for me to use a lot of parts.
Wich is a shame because they came with coloured limbs I enjoyed otherwise.

Aaaand I'm back.
I tried to incorporate Shaggy's usual colour schemes into the He-Man clothing. I wanted to make Scooby a little more Battle cat-esque, so I added in the green shading on the back and changed the collar from the typical blue into the Battle cat armour Red.

This was much easier to knock in terms of the mixture, so I just coloured it as Scooby wearing the Battle Cat armour, but obviously with the yellow striping. From the art I got the impression that it was meant to have Scoob's regular nose, but I thought it would be fun to make it red like the armour.
For the logo I used the colour schemes of both properties but flipped them, so the "Battle" bit is using the Scooby-Doo scheme, and the "Scoob" is in the He-Man style. Just for some extra mixing.
These were both great drawings and I had a lot of fun colouring them. If anyone (especially original art anon) wants I can provide the plain cleaned-up line-work.

But it is very strange that last thread all the chatter was about being over crossovers and suddenly when we aren't at bump limit anymore we have multiple Transforms x He-Man lists, cards with all these other IPs being posted, all this Scooby talks and more lists...shit gottdamn it feels like a lot of something I don't want.

They try to escape the invasion using a time machine, but the Rulons follow them and they all end up stranded to ancient earth.
Then the Valorians befriend dinosaurs by psychically communicating with them and the Rulons enslave dinos with mind control.

True. As a kid I always had it in my own headcanon that Marshal Bravestarr and Rio Blast were colleagues.
I don't mind the crossover ideas that fit with the MOTU concept. I just don't like "hey, let's dress up He-man as Optimus or a Ghostbuster or >insert nostalgic franchise<" kind of crossovers. I'm not a big ThunderCats fan, but at least that one meshes well. I know that DC is probably inevitable, although I'm luke warm to that idea.
>Does their lore fit in nicely with Preternia?
Not really, but sort of. They travel back in time due to their equivalent of the fuck up in Macross that sends the SDF-1 to Pluto, but it sends them all back in time, and the evil Rulons enslave the dinos with brain boxes that mind control the dinos, but the good guys just kind of tame them with telepathic necklaces.
The only real correlation is the going back in time and giving dinosaurs lasers.
>Or is it more like the both had the same idea about techno dinos so let's roll with that.
That's it. I just think it would be the gateway to getting the actual POG dinos made.
Also in Dino-Riders, the bad guys were anthropomorphic critters like insects, hammerhead sharks, and...snakes. They would make decent Origins guys. The good guys were kind of boring and forgettable.

As always I'm happy to deliver. I think it all just boils down to plain coversation. Everyone has their own ideal crossover idea in mind. Again I recognize why many feel fatigued, but after nearly 20 years of MOTU being absent I'm ecstatic to see it chug along in any capacity. At the very least both Turtles and Transformers looked interesting and experimental. Had they stuck to the standard origins buck for the Thundercats men I would have been alot more cheery. Granted we 're getting an incredible 200X out of those Cats parts, but I really just wanted an 5.5 styled Lion-O with origins articulation.

For this one I tried using a pen type in PS that replicates pencil, which in hindsight was a mistake because it took a lot of effort to get it to darken properly. It'll probably be tomorrow before I can get to the next image. I hope folks enjoy, if anyone has colour suggestions feel free and I can tweak them.

I'm glad. These are really fun images and were a fun challenge. Also this Spooky Space Skeletor ended up not taking me as much time as I thought. So for the hell of it I added in a background, I actually used a still from the Space Kook episode to get those classic Scooby-Doo trees in there.
As for Skele himself, I figured just using the animation colours might end up a little flat, so I referenced the original toy colours, which made the head a little more dynamic and added in the red eyes where the Kook had the white, plus the red jewel on the front. While Skeletor's body is blue, I actually tried to match the blue from the Kook to bring in a little of that colour scheme. I also added some (admittedly amateurish) highlights onto the metal parts to help sell that shiny surface further.

I hope everyone enjoys.

They won't go back on the price. That's for sure. The old one was floated for $300. The new one is obviously $300. Mattel wants $300. The shock is only them thinking moving the horse from maybe to when funded will be what pushes people over with nothing new was otherwise added to justify that cost. People wanted a cheaper set or more stuff upfront to validate that price.

Still a no from me cause the design sucks changing the backside so much. It lost all the soul of the art.

Back again. So this was really fun in terms of being able to mix in both He-Man and Goku's colour schemes. Originally I was going to go with the standard bare legs, but I thought that it might be a little more interesting to mix in some Prince Adam flavour, and gave it a bit of head canon that it's one of those situation where the hero isn't able to access his super powers and has to become more capable in their base form, so I ran with the idea of Adam going to Roshi to train. Hence the purple pants and white undershirt, but I also added in blue for the bracers to reference Goku's sweatbands, and the gold on the belt from He-Man's belt and of course the requisite brown on the boots. I also decided to colour the scabbard (assuming it is a scabbard an not just the end of the sword) on He-Man/Adam's back red as a reference to early Dragon Ball Goku's extending bo staff. I also went with grey for the trimmings and sword belt as a reference to the power harness.
For the logo I was originally just going to go with the standard Dragon Ball red and yellow, but thought that isn't really enough MOTU flavour, and thought about going with the MOTU blue, but because the red and yellow is so striking I kept it, but added in some shading like the New Adventures of He-Man gold looking logo. Over all this is a really toyetic design.
Hope everyone enjoys.

As if you were pulling a 30 year old toy out of a tub in an old thrift store or some rural antique shop shed that has a few random toys tucked into a back corner.
To that end I think that's probably my strongest memory of MOTU toys from when I was a very young kid, travelling random places and it seemed like every time we went into any kind of secondhand store, there'd be a box of beat up MOTU figures in a corner somewhere, usually with a Stridor and Buzz-off right on top.
I hope this version generates some kind of nostalgic memory for other the way I tried to replicate my own.

A big tell that this should be a different person from Filmation He-Man is the absence of Cringer/Battle Cat in his Eternia scenes in Episode 1. If I remember correctly they rarely did the transformation sequence without him (though maybe it happened in a such of She-Ra appearances).
Though if you prefer the mini-comics, most pages of Adam powering up are solo.

There are contradictory sources on whether the most MotU toys were sold in 1985 or 86.
In the 1986 Mattel catalogue for toy dealers, Buzz-Off was still in production, as were Orko, Prince Adam, He-Man, Man-At-Arms and Teela among the Heroic Warriors. Fisto, Ram Man and Mekaneck were not.

I know my extensive vintage collection included a Zodac complete with his "apron" and handgun. Either I got lucky at a yard sale or was gifted when MotU was dying on the pegs at $2.99 each a Zodac that had been sitting unwanted since at least the '84 holiday season.

I'm happy you liked my DBZ efforts too. Admittedly alot of japanese styles are harder for me to grasp. The idea has potential and that anon from earlier suggested some great ideas but I worried my art wasnt able to capture the Toriyama look. You really ran with what I delivered and your head canon made it all the more endearing. I was going to stop with those two pics but now I think I might give Faker-geta and Mer-Frieza a stab.

(Also yes it is meant to be a scabbard for the Power Sword. I pulled influence from Trunks for that)

I love how you colored Goku too. The roughed up second hand version especially. Reminds me of when I found a chewed up Buzz Off (missing a chunk of his fore arm) alongside Roboto and a naked Skeletor in a thrift store as a kid. I knew who they were then because of 200X, and despite the design inconsistencies I loved them anyways.

Initially I tried to draw a Super Saiyan He-man but I wasnt liking how it turned out. I've catboxed it for those curious to see it. Just sort of ended up looking like a cross between Raditz and Super Baby from GT.

Anonymous No.11513531 [Report]
"Assault on the Hive" is an odd episode. It's Skeletor's only post-Christmas Special Filmation appearance. James Eatock's book has its script being finished on April 23, 1986, but according to Wikip[edia She-Ra's second season was divided into just 14 episodes each for Fall 1986 and 1987, meaning it didn't air until 28 November 1987, months after the MotU movie was nailing the universe's coffin shut.
While it was in production way too early to promote any 1987 Evil Warriors, it had a belated attempt to shill MotU toys as well as PoP ones, with the only Filmation appearance of Meteorbs (Dinosorbs and Comet Cat only).
Skeletor's plot is to seize a starship and enslave the thousands of bee people living on it, which he thinks will be an army large enough to "conquer Horde Prime himself". This picks up from his last appearance, where he burned his bridges with Horde Prime with a Havoc Staff blast to save two Earth children.

Yeah, there are those three. I know I got the more common yellow neck Rattlor in 86, as well as the painted back Tung Lashor.
I forget which Two Bad I was given as a little boy, but the flat back is more common. The arms attach at slightly different angles and they have different card back instructions (round back advertises removable arms). I know I'd make my original use the "power punch" gimmick in the shoulders to make him punch himself in the opposite faces... I'll have to dig them out to see if that works on both.
Dark plastic Grizzlor is a domestic variant (that I've never tried to buy).
Clawful with Skeletor legs instead of Buzz-Off's.
The Man-E-Faces with extra maroon weapons is himself a variant figure, having pink instead of maroon torso tubes.
Squishable vs hard heads on the early male figures.

Vac metal looks amazing but you basically have to put it somewhere that the user isn't going to touch often, or it ends up looking like shit. I think Mattel themselves are uncertain about the effort, which is why they've only planned two "waves". If the demand was there however I'd love to see Shockwave + Trapjaw and Triklops + Soundwave. The heroic warriors merging with the autobots seems like a harder sell though. I can more or less imagine He-Man Prime pretty well, but how do you handle the other heroes? Rio-Blast, Fisto, Buzz-Off, Moss Man. None of them have direct analogues in transformers.

It's very easy to imagine him saying goodbye to Dare as he leaves to take on the resurrected Skeletor in space.

As a side note, can anyone tell me why Skeletor's 200x power sword looks so different? I am not a huge 200x buff but from what I remember, Skeleton finally got both halves of the sword and MAA had to build Adam a replacement sword. Am I forgetting something? The 4 Horsemen sculpted at least some of the figures before Mattel and Mike Young Productions decided the fiction to go along with them would be a reboot. They'd wanted it to be a continuation with that lore.
Both halves of the sword Skeletor came with are obviously based on the 1982 Power Sword, though they could no longer be symmetrical. The one with the bird wing design looks like they intended it to be He-Man's half.
I don't know if the forging of the double-swords-that-had-nothing-to-do-with-Castlde-Grayskull was ever flashed back to in a comic.

>gorgon and rattlor
Maybe this is old news but they reuse the same hands and feet. Btw these fuckers are hard to keep balanced.
>the fiend
Super7 is over priced but this feels solid and stands up easy. It's hard to see but he's wearing boots and had an arm guard. And his ribcage is molded not painted on like i figured it would be. So there are some little touches. I think he would look great with a cape and a hood.
>fang man
Probably the least exciting. I'm going to team him up with Geldor because they are both immortal.
>hordak
Above average in my imagination. Leans into Eternia as post-apocalyptic. The Horde as a biker gang (stolen and painted road rippers.) They terrorize the ruins of the great city Eternos, until they finally clash with Fisto of the North Star.
>grizzlor
Pretty cool. Liked him more than I thought. Would have been great if he had come with alternate claws instead of the terror claws. If that makes sense.
>Huk
The best hands down. Stands easy, feels nice and heavy, durable. It's like if you've ever held galaxy warrior you know they just feel not as nice as a real Masters. But this remake is like someone made what your imagination elevated a GW to be.
The packaging recreated the old galaxy hole style. In a weird way it never could be a genuine vintage one because it all looked and feeled very professional.
It came with a little minicomic to. It's definitely more like the original four in style and vibe.

It might seem like I'm shilling but I'm not. I dont work for formo and in fact I think they are mildly annoyed by me. But at the end of the day I can't lie that Huk is hands down the best on the table.
Look at that cape! Not the thin see through crap Mattel uses.
Second best was Hordak because he looks like a heckin heavy dude and got my mind working on stories for him.

Hot take: Eternia is a poorly designed toy for the space it takes up in your house.
It's about 48 inches wide and about 36 to the top of Central Tower's cannon. For all that, you get 3 decent sized rooms, a jail cell, the periscope room and a large and small parapet for figures to play in.
Convert that footprint to a basic dollhouse design and you could have 12 inch wide (width of a room in Castle Grayskull) columns of rooms 4 levels of 8-9 inches high each plus playable roof space. There could still be good, evil and neutral ones separated by 6" wide shafts that could have trap doors on top and could function as an elevator shaft or have a first floor room for a monster to live.

Its a dead horse of a point to make now but I was one of the anons banging on the Stockman drum from the start. Hordak and his crew really should have been set aside for a Dimension X wave. That way more mutants could have gotten the MOTU treatment, Hordak's inclusion in the line would make more sense, and so too would his use of mutagen.

Maybe Hordak could have taken the spotlight from Shreddator and the snegs after He-man and the Turtles defeated them. Stockman could have been caught along the way and Hordak would have intercepted Krang before he could retreat to his home dimension. Only losening his grip once Krang and Stockman offered the Horde upgrades and reinforcements in return. With said reinforcements including Mutagen Man, Traag, Granitor, Wyrm, Tokka, Rahzar, and maybe even Chromedome.

Rattlor, Tung Lashor and ancestors of Kobra Khan were left on Eternia when King Hiss, Sssqueeze, Snake Face, Reptilax and the unnamed Snake Men on this page were hurled into a timeless dimension by the Council of Elders.

Does anyone want to explain to me why the Snake Lair stuff is completely focused on Lady Sltiher instead of King Hiss? It's just so weird to me. I mean, who even is she, just some Origins OC? King HIss has always been the leader of the Snake Men, featured in the minicomics, still one of the most desired Origins figures, actually just got a new ToG figure they could throw into the adverts. What's going on?
Anonymous No.11516364 [Report]

In the lore, which has been very poorly explained next to nowhere, the snake layer is on another planet entirely. Take note that this means it's not being worked into any sort of play pattern like Castle Grayskull- it's just a generic bad guy base and is largely redundant.
Because the base is on a different planet, it's focused on that wing of the snakemen's ruler: lady slither. This is what I can surmise and vaguely remember. The minicomics that come with a lot of Axel's OCs tell this story but I don't blame you for not knowing. It's not He-Man.

No idea anon, somehow Axel has convinced Mattel that all the random OC designs he sketched up during the Classics run are highly desired by the fan-base? Like I said in a previous thread I don't care about Axels' OC Snakes and Mattel's constant need to push them. I know some people like them but IMHO the fact that the Snake Lair comes with another one and a variant of another makes the whole set less appealing overall. If it came with a cool King Hiss variant and any of the old school Repulsive Reptiles I'd be a lot more excited.

They're actually really great, favorites for me right now . Solid enough. Not a ton of range on the legs but its ball pegs kinda like origins. Love the extra paint details. Accessories are cool. Lol the swords are basically the same as origins wave one with the colors reversed, you can tell from the hilt direction. Harnesses look like short strap versions. Its like owning pristine originals but they're better in a number of ways. The spring punch action feels authentic but fresh.

Classics OC
Axel made her up because him and Neitich apparently decided that Snakes needed just as many members as the other two teams
She's basically just an amalgamation of design elements from Zilora and King Hiss's slave girl with a snake tail because "reverse King Hiss! Her bottom turns into snakes, lmao"

>Fangor won in the first Super7 fan poll (with Hawke, Lodar and Quakke) to chose the four figures for their first wave of the lines continuation
>Vypor also won in the third poll (with Tuvar, Kittrina and the Masks of Power Werewolf), but that wave never saw production because Mattel was pulling the license so Kittrina only got made by last minute shoe horning into the Club Filmation wave
>And Lady Slither has had verbal support for years

Looks to me like the fan base is responsible for this themselves. They demanded three of them, they must want more. So they oblige and get Axel to crank out more

The Evil Horde is in outer space. If She-Ra had ever had a happy ending where Etheria was free, it would still take a lot more fighting to defeat the Horde. At some point after his last guest appearance on her show, her brother goes into outer space. It's a no-brainer.

Got Despara, I know she's normally supposed to be Adora BEFORE being brought back to the side of good, but I really like the idea of her being Adora when she is turned evil again. That's one of my favourite tropes in any media, where one of the hero's or heroic group's core members gets brainwashed into being evil, but knows all of the good guy's secrets and combat plans, and can play twisted head-games with their former friends like Angel becoming Angelus or Tuxedo Mask.

I think I'd split the difference. Like she can access the power of She-Ra, but because she's evil it's not at full strength.
In general I'm also not entirely sure how much I go for the Adam/He-Man, Adora/She-Ra identities being totally different people. I prefer to view it more like the early mini-comics, where He-Man is just who he is all the time and it's the harness that amplifies his already impressive strength. Even if that nerfs the over all power like throwing entire mountains and shit. MOTU as a universe doesn't really require He-Man to be that strong anyway, him being able to snap a chain in base form, and then punch through solid rock while wearing the harness is sufficient (for me at least).

Also Maran here would be super-easy to make with She-Ra's biceps, the bare forearms they used for Sharella, Teela's legs and the plain torso+butt Cartoon Collection women have. Though a distressed black damsel in a pink minidress might never sell out when even Rio Blast isn't.
