>they appeared on christmas day
>their beeps were answered quickly at first
>days later they were scattered to the winds, their faint calls for help unanswered
>eventually I rounded them up and shoved them in a junk drawer under various papers
>they are silent now and though I'll never be truly happy, I felt a small sense of peace return

I have a similar story where my mom was taking care of my tamagotchi cause I was going for a few sleepovers at my friends but I was a teenager so I embarrassed to bring my tamagotchi for some reason. and my mom killed it in the first day hahaha

from the parents pov, technophobic boomer and gen-x parents were eventually left in charge of taking car of the tamagotchi during the day when schools banned them --and they told of the significant anxiety of not wanting to kill their son or daughter's virtual pet whilst not really understanding what they were supposed to do with it.

I only had bootlegs when younger, the small batteries would die so quickly.
Recently bought one of the rereleases of gen 2, this morning my tama evolved into Mimitchi
